Omoluabi16: At 18 you were going to kill yourself... You and your mother were greedy. It was a trade off. What changed? 6 years of lavish living done tire you now now. If you want to go go! But Pa Nwoko should Never ever release those kids to her. My friend girls fall in love (or think they do). Nothing is as intoxicating to a young lady as being the favorite among many women |

God1000: I hope our Gen z girls with terrible mindset and mentality of marrying already made men will learn from her predicament Learn what? Not to fall in love? Did you read what she wrote at all? SHE FELL IN LOVE! Believe it because it is TRUE! Girls love novelty and excitement - and nothing is as exciting to SOME of them as being the favorite among many women, instead of the old boring one-on-one! They'll "fall in love"! |

FashionCookie: True. But apart from not being able to marry in the future, what other consequences do they face, assuming they want to get married? But that's huge! Read Achebe's "No Longer At Ease". There's how they are seen and so many societal titles and things they can't pertake in, no matter how successful they become! |

Kaycee9242: Yes Osu means people sacrificed to the Oracle whereas ohu means slaves probably gotten after winning a war. Thanks, someone already told me that. But in terms of outcome with society the result is the same. |

Bwilliam: The day my dad was like "See that place where those beautiful women are coming out from, they are ohu and we can't inter marry", was the day I knew I might disappoint him one day.
Osu is a relic from the old religion. As long as they are Christians, they are our brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus. In theory. In practice even the most ardent evangelists refused their offsprings marryng an osu/ohu |

FashionCookie: This particular system will be very hard to abolish. Not something wey person go chop belleful come dey do. Except maybe by the Christians amongst them.(the ones with mind o). Nobody want make dem use am set example. Even the most fervent pioneering Evangelists of the past who were ready to die for Christ - they still obeyed osu/ohu. I think it is because it affects the children and descendants - it is not just you |

dangermouse: Ohu is not even that serious as it is not that common and not visible any longer. One can easily inter marry with them.
Osu is more serious. They never mentioned it, only the Ohu caste system.
Even the church could not eradicate it (Osu) as some things are better left as it is. Believe me, if it were that easy they would have done it in the 1930's, and it wouldn't take all this fanfare |

dangermouse: I wrote a thesis on this caste system in Igbo land during my University years and interviewd some traditional rulers and elders in many towns and villages in Enugu and Imo state and I can authoritatively tell you that Ohu and Osu are not the same. Ohu is a common slave owned by a person or a family and the offsprings automatically inherits it, while Osu is one owed by or betrothed to the gods of the land.
Interestingly, most of these Osu being freeborns, willingly consecrated themselves to the gods so as to avoid punishment for a crime commited, like murder etc, thereby becoming immune to prosecution as no one dares touch what belongs to the gods. The person is now under a convenant with the god and is being protected by it. This is usually done via a blood covenant and the person in question and his/her offsprings becomes the property of the God he/she has sold their soul to forever. Hence the freeborns tag them as Osu.
Ohu, which is a slave owned by a freeborn can be undone. It only takes the master to give his word and he/she becomes free. Reason this community can easily set them free to become equal and freeborns. It is commendable.
The Osu which involves a blood convenant cannot be undone easily. Reason being that the ancestors who entered the convenant with the gods has all passed on and a blood convenant can only be broken by them and not the offsprings.
If you marry one, automatically you become one. No two ways about it. They are often blessed with immense riches by the gods, but then they mostly die mysteriously and untimely. Thanks for your erudite and in-depth answer to my question. I think you are wrong about it being easy to abolish though. Check back on this Oguta in a few years and you'll not see intermarriage. I think government should make a law |

honesttalk21: Sadly perhaps you and the author of the post you replied to are limited in your thoughts. The idea that if everyone were Christian, there would be no religious wars may seem logical on the surface, but history and human nature suggest otherwise.
Throughout history, even within the Christian faith, wars have broken out, showing us that just because people share beliefs doesn’t mean they’ll live in harmony.
Take the Thirty Years' War, for instance; a devastating clash between Catholics and Protestants in Europe that led to millions of deaths and widespread destruction. It’s a stark reminder of how differences in theology can spiral into violence.
The English Civil War is another example, revealing the deep divide between Anglicans and Puritans, which resulted in chaos and bloodshed. And let’s not forget the Crusades; during the Fourth Crusade, Christians infamously sacked Constantinople, a significant Christian city. These instances highlight a crucial point: religious identity doesn’t prevent conflict; in fact, it often deepens the divides that can lead to war. We are talking of today, NOT ancient history. Nobody is talking of recorded atrocities your prophet committed, we are talking of TODAY! Everything is kill, kill, kill! Add to that state-sanctioned pedophilia and total subjugation of women, and you're wondering why anyone would be in such religion. Just the thought of your 54-year-old founder sleeping with an 11-year-old child! Yikes! Now, it's understandable that you were born into it and would be killed if you dare leave, but to be actually defending it?! My bros na wa for you o Mod, you are NOT fooling anyone. We KNOW yiu are the one (himan) doing most of the ad hominem bannings! |

8} You are the one that said God doesn't care about human worship, not me. I was telling you that makes no sense since he relies on it to assign heaven. (Jimrohn can you please explain Islam's higher and lower heavens for us?)
9) You are trying to subject God and the universe to human reasoning and logic. Well I have a shocker for you - the universe doesn’t go by human reasoning and logic. We don’t know how Christ is God but overwhelming evidence tells us he is - even a voice actually announced it durring his baptism! |

3) You don't need Philosophy to know that first cause can't start causing anything without there being change. Common sense will tell you that. A never-changing first cause will stay exactly the way it is forever, never causing anything
4) The eternal now is also time. Time is a "beginningless" concept.
5) This is actually comical. So the universe was existing in God’s will, chilling since eternity. So what exactly prompted it's manifestation 13.8 billion years ago?
I'm sure you have yourself a good laugh typing some of this stuff🤣 |

1) Oga, free will is an illusion! You think you make your choices but you actually don't. A whole bunch of things point to this, including the Libet experiments. Why do you think prophecy and fortelliing the future are possible? Your point that it invalidates a lot doesn't make it untrue. JimRohn
2) You didn't answer the question. Why couldn't God have created the world by simulation? Hence simulator(s) having all those God attributes |
