I must say I'm also surprised at your post. Maybe you'D be more comfortable if I joined other people and insisted there can never be an Igbo president.

One reason why the British respected the north more than the south in colonial times is because they (the north) presented a unified government, thanks to Usman dan Fodio's jihad which united them, and it wasnt as much of a headache to govern them as long as their religion wasnt messed with. Like it or not. The south, on the other hand, consisted of various mini-states too many to mention, all declaring themselves autonomous in their own right.

What does having to be half igbo or married to someone who is'nt Igbo mean not sure where that argument comes from?

To say the north use other tribe to win the war shows your lack of understanding of the complex politicking that occur during the biafra war.

The north has every opportunity to manipulate anything they want, they ve been in power over the years. But despite this, majority of their people are wallowing in object poverty, high infant mortality rate, drug abuse, disease, illiteracy ; compared to other part of the country. Even Saludo lament, "poverty is a northern phenomenon".

Compare the Ibo's; they lost the war and where deny power. Yet they fight back to become the richest, one of the most educated and enlighten Nigeria you would ever meet. That is the natural will power of the people and absolute desire to succeed against the odd.

Of course benefits have come - the 'trickling down' as you say it from those who have hustled abroad. Beyond that, has any profound change, any long lasting change, any inherent/imbibed change occurred?

That is the question I ask - are the southerners still not corrupt, lawless, cheating, murdering and tribalistic? These are the important questions to be answered.

Basic subsistence existence is what I am talking about - meeting your needs at a basic level, without any increases in wealth and the like. In my opinion, that is a higher ideal than a constant scramble for wealth with no inherent benefit except being able to spend more in the short term.

What right do you think you have to demand/require that another man strive to increase his 'standard of living'? By what measures are you describing his standard of living as being below yours? What may be important to you may not be important to him, but to assume yours are better is no different from what the white men did to Africa.

Whether I am hausa/fulani or not cannot be the subject of this discourse - your desire to 'improve' your standard of living is your prerogative. My ideal/desire to maintain my 'simple' or 'backward' standard of living is also my prerogative comprende?

Of what inherent benefit has all the 'hustling abroad' been to southerners? Ok you have relations abroad you can stay with, you are more 'exposed'. But has that solved our problems? No

I'D rather be a content farmer with 2 cows and a reasonably peaceful existence than some guy queuing up at embassies all day trying to go out to 'hustle'.

I guess in the end, its all a matter of perspective and personal aspiration. Hustling abroad may be a thing of pride to you, but maybe not to them.
