Why Nigerian refineries don't work is basically corruption. Corrupt officials from Presidents down to refinery mangers and oil import cabals collude with European refiners and IOCs to ensure the refineries do not work.

mikeapollo:
A lot of refineries around the world are older than our refineries and they are still functioning and producing
InvestmentRe: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Raider76: 2:03pm On Jul 12, 2025
Did anyone say sell NNPC? It is only the refineries we are talking about. Selling them is not taboo. It was done by OBJ before.

mikeapollo:
There is no amount of open and transparent process that would convince the Nigerian masses if Tinubu should sell a national asset like NNPC to Oando, a company owned by his nephew.
The critical importance, controversies and corruption around fuel and petroleum products and the ignorance about business and corpotrate governance in Nugeria is too much.
Oando should not even bother to put in a bid if they love themselves.
InvestmentRe: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Raider76: 1:27pm On Jul 12, 2025
All they have to do is conduct and open and transparent process. Remember that OBJ sold the refineries before. So there are reference prices.

mikeapollo:
It would be the biggest mistake if Tinubu should sell NNPC refineries to Oando after all the controversies about the sale of the filling stations.

Honestly a jump from 0% to 30% tax is crazy. We are crying about just 3% transaction cost. Now I see why billionaires in the UK are doing japa. Maybe some Nigerians will relocate to Ghana soon.

ositadima1:
How are individuals making ₦5 million a year considered wealthy? Have they accounted for rent? Food? Then they forget we don’t live in isolation like the “oyibo” — most people here support extended families, parents, siblings, and more.

I honestly wonder if the people setting these benchmarks even understand the real economy.

Anyway, in a way, this economic tightening might end up making people wiser. Hopefully, more Nigerians will start getting involved in choosing their leaders — unlike before, when many felt it wasn’t their concern.
InvestmentRe: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Raider76: 11:45am On Jul 12, 2025
Me, I will predict that this Government will sell its refineries in 2026, and Oando will be a buyer.

brodalikeme:
Oando beats every sense of rational reasoning and predictions Oo. If you remember, the price started falling even before June 30.
I just pray they follow through with the share redistribution before another drama.

9 banks gained today, with 3 of them gaining over 5%. Maybe the circular from CBN asking banks to submit their plans for existing forbearance is a pointer to a softening of measures taken by CBN on the matter.
InvestmentRe: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Raider76: 10:44am On Jul 10, 2025
Please be careful with penny stocks. As they go up yafun yafun 10% each day, that's how they come down when they reverse. So take profit as you go if you are trading. And if you are going in late make sure you consider your risk versus your reward.

Actually, the First Bank has been beaten down unfairly low. Why should it be trading much lower than UBA and Zenith? Those banks have the same forbearance issues as First Bank. I hope the guys lifting Firt Bank's price are aiming for a high target price.

"Interestingly, this net profit came despite the company posting a pre-tax loss of N52.5 billion, compared to a pre-tax profit of N70.3 billion in Q1 2024. The swing to net profitability was driven by a substantial income tax credit of N165.6 billion, which more than offset the loss before tax."

Could this be the reason Oando price dropped today?

There is a saying in.my language which says "When the sun comes out you cannot cover it with you hands." I believe the Dangote Refinery fits this saying well.

Doesn't the PIA mandate the IOCs to sell first to local refiners? When will that come into effect?

ghm:
IOCs have scheduled use for their crude. Most of them have refining interests across the globe and need the crude to service them. They also have a long standing customers and contracts.

That is not to talk about selling the refined products, Dangote retail programme is monstrous and a killer, NIgerians will be better for it though.

The circle contnues, the era of sitting back is almost over in business, you've got to be dynamic and innovative.

You people have infinite faith in Oando. So far I see no reason to believe anything they say they will do.

mikeapollo:
Yes, each tranche has a definite qualifying date. Feb 14, 2025 (tranche 1) and Jun 30, 2025 (tranche 2).
An exercise like this must always have a qualifying date because of the closure of register of members for the eventual redistribution/sharing of the units.
Once you had qualified, you may even decide to sell your shares but you will still get your bonus units whenever the actual distribution is done at a later date, similar to how bonuses are executed and implemented.
InvestmentRe: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Raider76: 7:12pm On Jun 17, 2025
No wonder, the oil marketers are panicking, holding meetings, and painting all sorts of doomsday scenarios if Dangote is allowed to set up his fuel distribution system.

[quote author=KarlTom post=135785727]Dangote makes scale look like child’s play; Man just dropped $250 million on 4,000 CNG trucks like he was shopping for snacks. To put it in perspective, the combined fleet of Nigeria’s top seven downstream players doesn’t even come close. The guy’s playing chess, major moves.

The Nigerian stock market is not important to the policy makers because only about 5% of the population are involved in it. Even those billionaires who made money in the market are being viewed with malicious envy. That is why the CBN is not bothered about making careless statements knowing full well that they can crush the market.

KarlTom:
I'm contemplating between buying today or waiting till tomorrow... grin

In all this 'confusion', I would have expected the CBN or/and the Banks to release a statement to clear the air but...
InvestmentRe: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Raider76: 7:28pm On Jun 15, 2025
Is it possible also that some banks try to defend their share price by having their major shareholders mop up shares being dumped by panicked investors?

Mankind2024:
Early in the month of June 2025, I made a post on the allure of dividends. My opinion on the new directive that restricts the major banks from paying dividends by the CBN is tantamount to a dividend war, the sibling of a trade war. As a self-investor, I would not touch my holdings in the banks; rather, I would deploy opportunity funds and top up. I would advise fellow self-investors not to panic sell, as they may not successfully time the market. Time in the market beats timing the market. The banks have emerged stronger despite forfeiting their forex gains to the government of Nigeria. I believe the CBN has taken this no-dividend policy to fight inflation.
