ositadima1: I do make money now and then using a trading plan and strategy that is often not recommended by most traders, but which works for me. I use a strategy which is close to what is technically called scalping. I trade on only highly liquid stocks using large position size, sometimes all my money in one trade. I trade stocks that I know I can buy or sell all my holding in a day. This limits me to only about 6 to 10 stocks on the NGX. I hold only 1 or 2 stocks at a time. I trade just about 3 to 5 times a year. But due to the position size I use these trades give me enough income for the year. I use TA and momentum to determine my entry and exit points, and strictly apply stop loss. As I said most people don't recommend this strategy due to it's high risk, and I don't recommend it either. I don't claim to be perfect either as no body is beyond succumbing to emotions. 6 Likes |

Can someone please explain the justification for the markdown of stock prices following dividend payment. It doesn't make sense to me. The dividend paid to shareholders is their share of the profit made over a previous period. It should have nothing to do with the market price of the stock. By marking down the stock price you are taking away the profit earned from the capital gain making the shareholder to gain nothing. Am I missing something somewhere? 2 Likes |

Picky1: It's possible. But even now there are about 5m to 6m offers everyday with no buyers. I suspect those might be the ones that sell in May caught, and they are definitely not the major money people that can move the price. The high volume transactions are off-floor crosses, and they make sure they don't do 100,000 unit single deals. |

dapix: I don't think so. If you look at the trading pattern some people are making sure the price of Transcorp Power doesn't fall. They are not likely to change after the dividend was paid. |

Princkez: I think it will depend on weather earnings and dividend post reconstruction can support N50 to N70 SP. Reconstruction doesn't necessarily change earnings. So assuming current earnings and dividend policy we will expect a dividend of 40 kobo. Let's say at most N1.0 per share. That is 1.4% dividend return at N70 SP, and 2% at N50 SP. Will the market accept that, or will SP have to fall post reconstruction? 1 Like |

KarlTom: I thought these people were successful settled with Ote$ as chair of the group, the Odukale caucus to chair the bank and the Otudeko group recognized as largest shareholders. I thought this would have been a win- win situation for all. But apparently not. |

Princkez: This is ridiculous. How long will this go on? So a major bank like FBNH cannot now proceed with a CBN directed recapitulation process because some individuals were not properly invited to an AGM several years ago? |

FBNH very close to full offer. What's going on? Are their results out? |

Streetinvestor2: You are right that SEC is rediscovering its teeth. This increases the possibility that we may wake up one day and hear that Oando's trading is suspended just like the JSE did. That will throw lots of people into despair. |

mikeapollo: Can't understand why WT still insists on delisting OANDO. After all the recent demonstration of opportunities for wealth growth offered by the market to individual billionaires. One would also think that he will want to help his uncle who is struggling to rebuild the economy by attracting investment anyway he can; even going out to ring the closing bell at the NYSE. WY definitely cannot help by delisting one of the largest indigenous oil companies in Nigeria at this time. All he has to do is to play by the rules just like Dangote, Tony, Rabiu and others are doing. Dangote is now probably the one person that can single handedly determine the direction of the Nigerian economy. He got here through the stock market and demonstrating ability to run honest businesses. Through this he is able to raise $20b and build one of the largest oil refineries in the world. Today if he is to start another project worth $50b he will be able to raise the money. Imagine where Oando will be today it was run like the Dangote group. 3 Likes |

Mpeace: Me I try to stick to certain sectors/stocks and master them. I try to avoid bothering about gains in other sectors/stocks. I look at the market like the local town market. The one selling provisions doesn't care what the one selling grains is doing. I hope this will work out for me in the long run. 2 Likes |

yMcy56: What we really need is for Flourmills to say exactly how much they are planning to pay per share of Honeywell after considering all factors including Honeywell debt. I don't know why that kind of transparency is so difficult to get at the NGX. Of course they can't come out and say "Oh. We have been stupid. We forgot that there are legal issues here". |
