TravelRe: Giving Birth In Canada by rainazoe: 12:42am On Mar 15, 2019
Your return date is very very tight but if you gave birth in Ontario, please see below:

1. Apply for baby's birth cert immediately via the Ontario 5 in 1 birth registration. Choose certificates 1 and 2 where you see the type of certificates. Apply for the SiN too. When done, Google the fax no of the office of the registration and write to them requesting that the BC be processed urgently. Attach your ticket as evidence.

2. Once you get the BCs (you will receive the short form cert first in the mail and the long form next or few days later) race to the nearest passport office and request an expedited passport. If they can process the next day delivery one, the better for you. Go with your ticket as proof of urgency. Have your husband on standby to go to the nearest Canadian embassy in Nigeria to sign if he isn't with you. I think for infant passport You have to pick it up at passport office when ready.

Also book baby's ticket to Naija.

3. Once Passport is available process naija Visa on arrival. PDF the following documents; baby's datapage, ticket and BC, both parents data page. Attach with an application letter requesting for the Visa on arrival and highlight your travel date and send to the email mentioned

Enter Twitter and tweet at the Nigeria immigration for more pressure. They say they usually respond 48hours to travel date with the approval letter. There are two letters. Make sure you print them.

PS I didnt pay online for the Visa and on getting to Nigeria they were like why didnt I pay online and story story. I begged sha before they sorted me out.

The major headache is the BC. Once you have that you will be okay.

Please how long does it take Naija immigrations to approve the Visa on arrival. I submitted my application on March 1st and not heard anything despite my reminder today.
TravelRe: Giving Birth In Canada by rainazoe: 12:12am On Mar 05, 2019
log into your GCKey acct and check if you have a message. Opening it downloads a PDF document which is the message which can be an instruction or the final decision on your application

Supernatural198:
Okay,so does that mean i should send back the attachment through my gckey account? Or what am i supposed to do now.
TravelRe: Giving Birth In Canada by rainazoe: 8:07pm On Mar 04, 2019
CIC account would be if you applied online as you would have created an account to submit your application.

If you log in, you can see the progress/update of your application and if you have any messages relating to your application. If you had any message you should get an email telling you to check your CIC account.

Supernatural198:
Good evening everyone,i actually did not get a response to my last message, however i have sent the full statement through ircc form, while filling the form i was asked where is my application been process which i actually have no idea of because i submitted online.however i clicked on Lagos Nigeria since i applied from here.so i got a reply that i should Kindly refer to your - My CIC - account for all correspondence and update on your application....
I don't know what that means...please mommies in the house with experience kindly share your opinion....am i supposed to send the attachment to a specific office or what....
TravelRe: Giving Birth In Canada by rainazoe: 4:26pm On Mar 04, 2019
I applied for birth certificate online using the ontario 5 in 1 application and it took 3weeks with several calls and faxing my ticket to them on urgency grounds.

So if there is a registry near you best you use them.

Oleayo22:
Congrats. Did you fill the form they gave you at the hospital and returned it to them there? If you did, then go to the nearest registry to you and apply. You pay there, I applied for expedited using my husband 's itinerary and picked it next day.

Growing up, we ate it with soup or 'garri kulikuli' (ground kulikuli).

Lemme come and be going before nostalgia starts.

voguemum:
Yes, it is exactly what you just described. It is mostly sold around Barnawa and most parts of Kaduna, I'd say its very common in the North though I've come across some sellers in Lagos too but mostly where Hausas are populated. I remember as kids we use to dip tge waina/masa in sugar then eat as snacks, it tastes even better. grin

There are alot of recipes and pictures of it on Google so you can check and confirm if its the same as what you had as a kid.

I put my fish in my checked in bag from Naija and had no issues. I think the fish binning was one off.

Zeiya:
Hi,

Please has anyone travelled with Egypt airline recently?
What's up with this their "binning fish"? Do they still discard stuff?
Please share your luggage handling experience to clear the air.

Thank you.
TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant Part 2 by rainazoe: 11:03am On Feb 08, 2019
Thank you Ma.

Ifeoma77:
Yes you would definitely hand over the naija license. Having the FRSC letter and license will only give you exemptions if you have years of driving under your belt. i.e. you can't show up with a spanking new license and get the exemption. The license has to be at least one year old to exempt you from the G1
Also it must be original license, they check.
To verify that your license is genuine, go to the link below, enter your license number and DoB. If your details come up, it's genuine. If it doesn't, it's fake - even if you did it in FRSC office

This license thing confuses me. If I have a naija license and FRSC letter do I go straight to G1 or G2? Would I also hand over the naija license?

Edakun answer me.

Ifeoma77:
Maybe you should consider writing them a letter to explain that the "graduated u25" license in Nigeria is not a learners permit but a license issued to anyone below 25 years. It's separate from the normal class B because in Nigeria, you're not allowed to drive any commercial vehicle until you're 25 and above.
So while it is also the license you get as a first time driver, it is much more than a newbie license. For example, if you obtain your first license at 18 and it expires when you're 21, your renewed license will still be a 'graduated u25' license; even though you are already an experienced driver.

If you got that license when you were younger than 25 and you've crossed that threshold now, apply for a reissue. You might also want to get some sort of letter from FRSC explaining the concept, maybe it might help your cause.
Or just forget the naija license and go for G1 over there

Really? Why? My SIL used a midwife for her two kids and didn't have issues. Also the midwifery is attached to a hospital close by and if the delivery escalates beyond their control you are taken to the hospital.

Canadachi:
I think using a mid wife should only be considered if this is not your first baby.

Saving this for future reference
czaratwork:
Are you already in Canada? Which province are you in? Are you aware of BLACK FEMALE ACCOUNTANT NETWORK that operates within GTA for now. It help new immigrants integrate into the system. I mean black female accountant immigrants. If interested, your wife can PM me.

Twill be best you mail CPA so you know what you are up against. Most of us on this thread did the ACCA-CPA conversion.

pejuhazel:
Hi @czaratwork, thanks for the tips for us accounting. I have a Bsc in accounting from a school here in Nigeria and an Msc in oil and gas accounting from the UK, I plan to get a CPA after moving to Canada (currently post AOR). My question is will I be able to claim exemption with my Msc or my Bsc will be more recognised?
TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant Part 2 by rainazoe: 12:14am On Feb 03, 2019
Thanks @czaratwork
czaratwork:
Accountants and finance professionals, please ensure you learn advanced excel before coming in. I mean pivot tables, recording macros, VBA, vlookup, sumifs etc. It will help you in your job hunt. You can spice it up by learning powerpoint too as you can be called to do presentations at short notice. You can also visit indeed.ca to have an idea of the requirements for the career you want to pursue.

Also consider financial analyst role as you can never get it wrong with this role. If you type in financial analyst role in GTA in indeed, you will see that job berekete here. The question is Do you have the skills? All you need is experience in advanced excel where you use the tools to perform variance analysis (actual vs budgeted) with pivot charts, budgeting, monthend activities and presentation skills. You may also need experience in an ERP like SAP, ORACLE, JEDWARDS and co. I tell you they are ready to waive that Canadian experience if you have the skills. I have seen it happen for people.

There are so many free tutorials on excel and powerpoint on youtube and these videos come with materials you can practice with. udemy.com also has very cheap training on financial analysis. Some banks in Naija call this role performance management. We have performed most of these roles but with different titles/names.

Some keywords you can add to your resume are balanced scorecards, flash reports (just before month end variance analysis) and dashboard (after month end variance analysis) Monthly business review (MBR) process improvement and automation (excel helps you do both)etc.

Prepare very well before coming here and you will not waste time in the labour market.

Ok bye.

There are several posts on winter gear on the old thread. Look for posts from @einsteino for details.

Personally I would only buy the minimum jacket, thermal underwear etc. When you land proper, enter thrift shops and stock/kit up proper from head to toe.

Oya make we wait the landing gist.

Onyeenyeh:
Hello Everyone, seriously preparing for my landing. Cannot wait to share my landing gist. Can anyone who has bought winter gears from "House of Tej"- Tejuosho Market, give an idea of the cost implication, so we don't get bamboozled when we reach there?

Also, I keep hearing conflicting stories about getting a G license in Ontario. Do i need to get the FRSC letter or does my license suffice or do I need an international one in addition?
TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant Part 2 by rainazoe: 4:45pm On Feb 01, 2019
Have you considered using a midwife. I used their services and was so happy I did. I did start my search in good time though and secured my slot before I came into their care later in my pregnancy.

Wellmanned:
Wow, a month!!! Wish i can just birth in US and include the baby in my PR later but not ready for sponsorship route.

Thanks so much for the response.

Biko travel o. My passport had less than 3 months expiry and I travelled and came back sef.

gaggle:
Pleassssseeeee guys, biko,ejor any idea.

The scenario is Passport & PR Visa expires June. Travel date is last week of March. Is this a problem as passport validity will be less than 6 months. If it is, does CIC need to be contacted after passport renewal or just travel with the new & old passport that has the visa.

Nope the same Lagos. Just depends on where you live and how you spend.

Influential101:
You can comfortably run the above expenses in Naija including school fees and still save a lot? ??

Maybe outside Lagos shaa.
TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant Part 2 by rainazoe: 4:45am On Jan 14, 2019
But how will the PR status be maintained if he just visits? It means he would have to use up all his leave (assuming a minimum of 30 days vacation per year) which would still not be enough to cover the 2 out of 5 year rule

SIRTee15:
Canada PR goes beyond salaries....
I think this has been thrashed in the previous thread...

However u can build a safety net.....
Process the application n if successful, send ur families over while u keep ur job in naija and visit until u deem it fit to move.....
The cons of families living apart due to PR was also discussed on the previous thread....

Whatever the case, this is a big opportunity for ur family especially the future of your kids and I'll advise u to consider this application seriously....
U can't compare the opportunity in the west to nigeria in all ramifications.....
If Anthony Joshua had grown up in Nigeria, he will most likely end up an agbero tout or political thug for likes of bola tinubu....
TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant Part 2 by rainazoe: 4:06am On Jan 12, 2019
Best ask the question in the skilled workers thread

I know a couple of people who did their prints at a police/sherriff station where they were based. The prints was then clearly scanned and emailed to a naija contact who processed the police certificate for them and scanned same to them.

WoodcrestMayor:
Guys, I need your input here.
Please my paddy don start this Canada package. He wants to know what it takes and process to get police report as he's not in naija at the moment. As a matter of fact, he's in far away China cool
What's the procedure and contacts if you have any.
