I claimed points but mine still took the normal 6 months so it does not guarantee a fast track.

labelbybee:
Please i need anyone that claimed points for sibling in Canada and has gotten PPR urgently.

Thanks.

Yes you can apply for a PRTD to re enter CA when you want to. Your fam in CA to Naija can also send your PR card once they receive it so no need for the PRTD.

Make I advise you before you return snap extra PR compliant photos and keep with your person in CA incase CIC asks you to resubmit photos for the card. I didnt do so and I have had to send my photos from Naija twice now.

MissMoroti:
Hi guys, i need a favor from the seniors! Make una help me.

Im a single applicant and I just landed two weeks ago; I’m planning to go back to naija to tidy up loose ends.

Do i need to apply for prtd? So that i can re-enter canada or i have to wait till pr comes out? Keeping in mind say na ontario and e fit take 3months to get my pr card

No harm writing to Accra and attaching evidence supporting your request so that they fast track. I don't know their email sha

gaths:
Good day everyone
Been following this thread ever since I got my PPR a few weeks ago.

It has been a very very looooong read from page 1 and it's well worth it.
Thanks to @Salford blackbuddy bsbabe maternal glittering star et al., God bless you plenty.

I'm presently on page 405 but had to interrupt my read to ask a question. I'm in a bit of a predicament and I hope someone here can advise me.

My passport was transmitted to vfs Accra on the 15th of this month, however I received news on Monday that I was successful in a conference travel Grant I applied for.
The thing is, the conference will be taking place in Austria and I have about 2weeks to submit my application for a Visa as the conference starts on the 2nd week of November.

What could I possibly do now,? My CIC account has not been approved and so my passport is no where near coming back to me.
Do I write to AVO to withdraw my passport temporarily? and what implications could doing this have on my application?

Has anyone here been I a similar situation or know someone who has. Please, somebody help.

Thanks

Had anyone applied for a PRTD recently. I don't know how to answer the residency obligation and absence while accompanying a citizen/PR.

My family is returning to CA and our cards are yet to be issues.

PS: How long does it take to process?
TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by rainazoe: 5:49pm On Oct 16, 2018
This will definitely help others make an informed decision on the route to take.

Chicjennie:
I'm also in your shoes. I decided to opt for ACCA option instead due to the following:

1. While Ontario accepts CIMA in the MRA for internationally trained accountants into CPA, Alberta does not.
2. I'm unsure about what CPA means by "completion of the *full* CIMA programme to be eligible.
3. ACCA's cut-off is 50% compared to CIMA that is 60%.
4. The ACCA option is cost effective as it is about 50% cheaper than the CIMA option.
5. The requirements to obtain the CPA designation with ACCA is less complex and more straightforward.
6. ACCA is more recognised worldwide than CIMA.

The only Con is that one gets to write 4 papers to obtain the ACCA qualification unlike CIMA that requires candidates to write only 1 paper. But trust me.. that one paper would be loaded!

If you have any objection to the above, please let me know.

Cheers..

Pele o @JKJ6. Call +1 888 242 2100. I used a skype calling app because I am outside CA so you need good network quality too.
I started calling from 12.45pm naija time so that wait time to connect to an agent was reduced. Have your UCI no. close by

JKJ6:
I seem to be in the same situation as you. Please, can you share the number you called? Thanks.

Mama Vcole. I didnt confirm that it's the same one but I intend to call back today because I got another notification for only my child's passport rejection yesterday.

Congratulations on the new CPA to your person!

vcole:
@rainazoe, did the agent confirm that they have received the passports you sent in July? In addition, did you confirm that the note on your file was for the same passport request that you were aware of? Is it possible that the photos you submitted in July were also rejected and as such you were sent another passport request? If not, you may want to call them back just to be sure because I think that when they ask for new photos, they give you a 30 day period within which they must receive it or they cancel your application. Anyway, I think that the processing time for a PRTD depends on the country/region you are applying from. You can check the estimated processing time on the cic website. Last I checked, it was about 30 days. Btw thank you for the acca-cpa pointers the last time. The person for whom I was enquiring has now concluded the process and received cpa status.

TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by rainazoe: 4:09pm On Oct 08, 2018
N700k shocked shocked. Pretty steep but I agree with you on writing exams in old age. It shall definitely end in praise.

Have you thought of writing ACCA and then converting because one would not know how long this CPA-ICAN MRA will take.

TEECANN:
@rainazoe

Yes, I began processing the CPA Ontario's Internationally Trained Accountants' (ITA) path registration.

I quickly realized that my ICAN ACA amounts to little in the conversion process as I was expected to practically challenge most of the papers in the CPA Ontario exams all over (Biko, not at this ol' age again grin) so I kind of abandon the process (the painful part was all the kish I had expended to get registered)

But recently, I have found a way around the matter through CIMA, so I won't have to write CPA Ontario papers again, I'll just apply using CIMA for direct CPA membership through the MRA (mutual recognition agreement) CIMA has with CPA Ontario. Se fini grin

However, the caveat is that from registering for CIMA(using ICAN) to using CIMA to register for CPA Ontario's membership, I will cost around 700k naira (yes, almost a million naira). IMHO, I still prefer to spend it than re-writing those papers.

Another caveat, as an immigrant, you have to sort out your membership of CIMA before stepping foot in Canada, if you start the process of taking CIMA exams or converting your ICAN to CIMA after landing, they wont accept it (It's on CPA Ontario website)

These stuffs are long and windy but it with diligent research and prompt action, they are doable.

It will end in praise IJN!
TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by rainazoe: 9:04am On Oct 04, 2018
You should PM @TEECANN. I think he was considering conversion at some point. Also email CPA for clarity.

redocean:
Hello All,

Please has any chartered accountant - ACA here successfully converted to CPA after immigrating to Canada. Did you have to take all the exams afresh or are there other pathways to CPA you used?

Also, with the unification of all accounting bodies into CPA designation, how does this impact the opportunities from acquiring other accounting certification like CMA? Infact, from research, provincial CMA bodies have stopped admitting new members in Canada.

Kindly provide some guidance based on your experience and knowledge.

Thank you so much in advance...

@Abita why did you put only 'sisters' in caps. Are you on a wife hunt grin

Abita:
I'm currently working in Propak's office, their Engineering and Sales Division, know its a big company but right now it's just us who are the only blacks in the building. If you say so, then I'll have to go find where my brothers and SISTERS wink are because over the weekend I went to CrossIron Mills shopping mall and same thing as well, saw only like 3 blacks and they kept avoiding glances lol. Please directions would be nice Sir. Thanks.

Oh thank you. My bank debit card was declined when I wanted to pay. I'd check wakanow.

phf2be:
You can book directly on their website and pay with a card or use a travel agency. I got a good deal on wakanow.com.

Sis how did you book your flight. My card keeps getting declined.

GlitteringStar:
I had a good experience with them too. Though, mine was business class not economy. We really enjoyed ourselves. We had a 5.5 hour layover at Cairo. The time flew by so fast that my mum thought we had only spent an hour. cheesy I didn’t feel the long flight at all. They are not so bad in my opinion. The good thing is their fare is also not too expensive.

Please how does one book Egypt air from naija.
TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by rainazoe: 7:30am On Sep 18, 2018
I totally agree with this. And like @pipes1759 said ensure you have access to control your heating/cooling. I stayed in an air bnb basement and would never try it again except if I have access to the thermostat

vcole:
@pipes1759 your write up was entertaining. Welcome!
@ the basement suite ish, @beea is right about ensuring it is a legal suite. However, since you have a toddler I think you may wanna just opt out of renting a basement. Having a window to look out of would make a world of difference for your kid.
TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by rainazoe: 7:14pm On Sep 10, 2018
I did and it says page not available or experiencing technical upgrades so no results. Thanks.

Beeea:
Have you checked ecas?

Just choose PR card when asked to make selection
TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by rainazoe: 12:31pm On Aug 30, 2018
Please is there any email or phone number to contact CIC about my PR card? I landed in May and responded to a passport resubmission request at the end of July. I believe I should have gotten it by now?

Pele o. Have you tried using vaseline on your nostrils to trap the dry air?

A555:
Hello People.... Anyone got a remedy for this extremely dry weather in Calgary? Specifically per the sinuses and throat. The back of my throat gets extremely dry, and I often wake up feeling quite uncomfortable.

i have tried Robb, air conditioning, humidifiers, drinking lots of fluids.... hardly any respite. Can't believe I'm almost wishing winter would come along quickly. The air was dry then also, but I don't think it was this bad.

I am dreading the freeze too. If I had my way, this will be a naija baby but I don't get the process of getting PR for a baby. Not looking straightforward.

Abeg seniors @blackbuddy @vcole can you provide guidance on PR for a new born/child if born outside CA to PR parents?
