Yea true, he took on bigwigs and that is really courageous of him.
I admire Ruggedy's boldness to do that.
But like it's said he who's down fears no fall.
What he did was just to roll a dice on it and it worked.
Remember he said,he was ready to quit and go get a job
but wanted to give a beefblow as he exits the scene unrecognized.
So it wasnt for any scene, or any industry.
Yea at that time M-9 maybe a journalist, wonder wat m.i, naeto and the likes were.
When Henry ford did his thing i wonder where Mercedes was then
when Bush was presido i wonder where Barack was, dyu get ma point
Now, unlike u, i still like Ruggedy deathblow or no deathblow, i buy his CDs
i listen to him, i like his voice, and kinda fancy his New crossfire too grin, but i RESPECT
M-9 for his art, his lyrics, and his resolve not to go with the pop, bling, butt shakin fad.
oNe
Cool. I get your point.

Just here to remind everybody that just because Rugged doesn't use as many punchlines/metaphors e.t.c it doesnt make him wack

How many punchlines does ice cube use? or DMX or Snoop? Are they wack?

Even if you don't like Rugged he can't be dismissed as a nobody which is what some people on NL are trying to do.

I'm just fighting back because I don't think its fair

Dont reveal how little u know of branding and marketing communications, ok.
I rather u left ur reply blank, t'wuldda made more sense than what u just posted.

But on a pedestrian level, i guess M-9 sold just 2 copies then? pshhhhhh!
Next!

@DBR

wow!!!! you are so smart. Amazing! I'm sure your boss in your branding and marketing communications company is proud of you. Logging on to NL to display all your worldly knowledge. Incredible!!

Its an honour to be lectured by you.

Thanks

That very statement is one that i'm so incongruous with!
What doors? What did he really do?
Can u name 3 rap artists that emerge from the said doors?
Mother tongue this- mother tongue that, is that d door?
Lemme even ask u, is pidgeon english your mother tongue?
lets assume it is, Ruggedy even claims pple who do so now are because of him?
wat he "preached" as a cast in stone ONLY way to make it in 9ja?
Eedris done did that, Junior and pretty were dope wit it, Dr Fresh was hot wit it,
even Maintain, RR&R all opened that door b4 him, and these are facts, so wats d fuss?
The door he opened was door of beef.
Even the M.i u talkin about did he follow the scripture as preached by your, (im tempted to get abusive here)
by Ruggedy?. If M.i eclipsed M-9 is sales only tells me M.i's album is more commercially friendly,
it doesnt tell me more than that.It doesnt tell me M-9's of lesser quality content wise.
oNe
C'mon DBR are you serious? What doors?

Rugged gave Naija hip hop an edge. Made it sound cool ( and not just funny/odd) to rap in pidgin. Made Alaba realise that Naija hip hop could be commercially viable. He inspired other artists to get in the game and reconsider their strategy. He took on the industry bigwigs as an independent artist without fear and still came out on top

At this time Mode 9 was a journalist!!!! He only jumped on the bandwagon AFTER Rugged made a career in hip hop seem possible.

I think you should give Rugged the props he deserves

I aint gonna aim for you no more. Just got ticked off with the whole Vector thingy.

Also, you have too many threads at the same time on NL and it seems you are spamming. You need to cut it down cos people are getting fed up.

Just consider this as a learning process.

It is possible to turn former foes into friends. Just stay humble, dont hate on others and keep grinding.

PEACE!!

Now u talkin. U just like Ruggedy, i like him too, but not beyond facts.
And if u notice the fact i'v maintained here is that M-9 is far better lyrically.
True Ruggedy has more audience appeal, have u ever heard of mass market brands?
Now, have u heard of Target brands?? Now put it together.
Ok. let me get this straight, Mode is far better than Rugged but Rugged has more audience appeal. hmmmmm!
Rugged is a mass market brand and Mode is a target brand.

That makes a lot of sense. Mode doesnt release his album for the masses but targets it for you and Javalove , abi?

I just put it togther. Thanks. wink

WORD!!!

Except the part that you said M.I's not lyrically more skilled than Mode17
Dude's the 'Mister Incredible, Most Immaculate Mic Inspector, Music Innovator . . . Nigeria's Hiphop token, you gotta be joking'

Nigerian Hiphop has evolved past Modenine, people are discovering that they don't need to sacrifice good delivery to make sense.
This beef is Mode's last gasp
Are you the real eldee? if you are, are u not scared that Mode might do a 'death blow part 33' for you.

Also, how comes you got the keys to No.10?

Finally, I didnt say Mode was better lyrically,  just telling Deji that that wasnt the point I was making.

If i think about it honestly, Mode is a tight MC, if the year was 1991!!! grin
Music/Radio › Re: ''Ruggedman Should Go Back To The Studio And Reply Me'' by rapjunkie(m): 10:42pm On Mar 02, 2009
I didnt say M.I is lyrically better than Mode. Just making the point that people identify more with M.I ( in just a few months) than they ever have with Mode.

All of Nas's albums have gone platinum apart from 'Untitled'. Hardly anybody buys Modes albums. Not even the 'heads' who all look for free downloads.

Also Kanye's 808 album was a 'singing' album and had a very different fan demographic than Nas's album so you cant even compare the two.

Face the facts.
Music/Radio › Re: ''Ruggedman Should Go Back To The Studio And Reply Me'' by rapjunkie(m): 10:05pm On Mar 02, 2009
@Sauron

Please dont mind them.

Modenine is their King/Emperor/Ruler/God. If Mode farts they will say the sun is shining out of his ass.

I didnt mind Mode until all this palavar over 'death blow' started and I realised just how sycophantic his fans were.

Now i can't stand him!

Rugged opened doors in naija hip hop while Mode has done absolutely nothing.

MI released his album 2 weeks after Mode and totally eclipsed him. If i was Mode ( or his fans) i would seriosuly think about that

The discussion is about whether the Igbo artistes are neglecting their culture, not whether if Igbo music sells.
Read the posts my friend, it is being suggested that igbo musicians need to sing in yoruba to sell.

For crying out loud .when would we stop all these ibo ,hausa ,yoruba shit.the same thing that destroyed our educational system.when people do jamb ,they would use quota system to share admission .whether the person score less than the other person he would use hausa or ibo or yoruba quota system.
Thats all bullshit.if yoruba music is sang nicely and it is a hit ,it would sell likewise ibo or hausa for that matter.there are ibo songs that are still a hit .Onyeka onwenu did not have to sing in yoruba before she became a star.
Whatever is good is good .stop all these hausa ,yoruba ibo shit.

WTF?

@Afam

I don't think Kel, Naeto C  or Ruggedman e.t.c are responsible for any of this.

Looks like you have another agenda posting this thread.

And who the hell is Robert Obioha Okere anyway??
Music/Radio › Re: Why Do Igbo Artistes Sing In Yoruba? by rapjunkie(m): 4:00pm On Mar 02, 2009
I don't see the big deal. I know Yoruba people who use igbo words all the time and igbo guys who use yoruba words. I think if you are trying to go national, and not just appeal to your own tribe then its a smart move to try and make other tribes identify with your songs. That can be done in pidgin but could appeal to people more if you make the effort to commuincate in their own language.

I know that d'banj's stock increased  in Eastern Nigeria when he did the track 'igwe'

However, i think that igbo artist's  who think the only way they can get ahead in Lagos is to sing in yoruba are greatly mistaken. If your track is wack then singin the chorus in yoruba will not save it.

Just keep it real. If you want to sing in yoruba ( or another language) , fine, but also remember to lace some tracks in your own language so you don't alienate your own people.

my 2.5 cents

@dejirayo

I've listened to Mode9's tracks and they all sound the same. It's like all his tracks over the years have come from the same album. the beats are the same, the flow is the same. he isnt that versatile.

HOWEVER, I must admit though, my best Mode track is '419 state of mind' because i love the way he tackled the subject  BUT it doesnt mean he should shit all over Rugged and not expect to be dumped on by the world famous Rapjunkie ( begining to sound like Frijos there, lol)

I understand the point you are making but i feel that Mode is trying to get too much mileage out of this. Whats the point of a deathblow part 2 when Rugged hasnt even responded to part 1?
Music/Radio › Re: ''Ruggedman Should Go Back To The Studio And Reply Me'' by rapjunkie(m): 5:02pm On Feb 27, 2009
@dejirayo

So you have to wait for others to tell you who is your best MC and then follow them like goats?

I thought Nas said illbliss was the best rapper in naija?

I think we can all think for ourselves, thank you!

Mode9 is suffering from a very large self inflated ego which makes him believe that his nursery rhymes like ' i'm bringing  a wrecking ball for your sand castle' are the greatest, wittiest lines ever spit by a naija MC.

OJB got better lines than that grin

In what area is Mode better? Lyrics? Is that the only determinant of a good hip hop artiste?

It's like scoring 80% in Biology but 10% in Physics, Chemistry, Math and English- you won't get admitted for medicine

Someone else who scores 70% in all five has a higher cummulative score, and is a better student.
True dat!!

I'm loving this thread.

Thankfully, naija hip hop heads are not us dumb as Mode 'Timbo' 9 thinks we are.

You really think Pac eva made a Top 3 album?
Funny thing is the only Pac album I'll listen to without skipping is his Greatest Hits CD
heheheheeh. I kinda agree with that. I love Tupac but NEVER bought any of the albums apart from the greatest hits album.

I remember buying the Slim Shady LP in March 1999 and listening to it for 3 months solid before I could listen to any other album.

However, on deeper reflection my best rap album of all time without doubt is Dr Dre's 'Chronic". Awesome!!!

Na by force? Rugged no wan reply. Instead he did a video for 'banging', which will probably be seen and heard by many more people than will ever hear deathblow parts 1- 20. Mode should release the info make we hear.

Mode should also try and get a hit record cos there aint one in his current album. This is why mode is broke. unfortunately, hip hop heads hardly ever buy music these days. They look for free downloads.

People might say that mode is the better rapper ( lyrically e.t.c)  but rugged connects more with the masses. if thats the case, then WHO IS REALLY the better rapper?
