Be cautious of granting Visa to Atiku – FG tells US

ON NOVEMBER 29, 2018.

The Federal Government tells the U.S. to be cautious in granting visa to the PDP Presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, in order not to create the impression of endorsing him for  the 2019 election. Lai Mohammed The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, gave the government position at an interactive session with media executives in Abuja on Thursday.

Mohammed said that the government was aware of the move by the former Vice President to lobby the U.S. to lift the visa ban imposed on him. He said, while the U.S. has the prerogative of whom to issue visa, it should be mindful of the timing, in order not to give the impression that Atiku has been endorsed by the U.S. government. Obasanjo will always be my father, says son supporting Buhari “We understand and appreciate the fact that it is the prerogative of the U.S. to grant a visa to anyone who applies. “However, we want the U.S. to be neutral and be wary of taking any decision that will give the impression that they are favouring or endorsing one candidate over the other “Impression must not be created that the U.S. government is endorsing one particular candidate over the other,’’ he said.

The minister recalled that for years, there has been a kind of congressional bi-partisan investigation on corruption against certain individuals which had made it difficult for Atiku to secure a U.S. visa. “I am sure you will all recall the Jefferson’s case and the cold 90,000 U.S. dollar in fridge. “We are not unaware that Atiku has engaged the services of some lobbyists to persuade the U.S. to issue visa to him. “Our position is that if the former Vice President is seeking the U.S. visa we have no problem about it. “However, we want the U.S. government not to create the impression that it is endorsing one candidate over the other,’’ he said. Speaking on security, the minister insisted that despite the recent set back brought about by attacks on the military, the Boko Haram insurgents had been largely decimated. He recalled that when they took over in 2015, Boko Haram was active in 10 states including the FCT where they chose where and when to attack The minister said that 20 of the 27 Local Government Areas in Borno were under the insurgents where they hoisted their flags collected taxes and deposed the Emirs. He said since they took over, no inch of Nigeria territory is under the control of the insurgents who now operated in the fringes –Lake Chad Island- to launch guerilla attacks. “What happened was a set-back and it is not enough to say that we are losing the war against the Boko Haram. “We want to appreciate the gallant military who are sacrificing day and night and those who have lost their lives to protect Nigeria’s sovereignty,’’ he said.

The Minister added that the visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to Borno and his ongoing visit to Chad were indications of renewed vigour to end the war. Mohammed also denied the allegations that the government was closing media space against the opposition. On the arrest of Deji Adeyanju, convener of Concerned Nigerians by the Police, the minister noted that “being an activist or in the opposition does not protect anyone from arrest and prosecution’’. He said the case had been charged to court and it would be prejudicial to make further comments on it. (NAN)

Only worthless and uninformed touts pretending to be learned will find flaws in an upstream sector underperforming for years. I am with Atiku on this one.

The truth is, we missed the opportunity in 2007 when controlling equity of PH refinery was sold to the Blue Star Consortium of Dangote and Femi Otedola. Late President Yaradua was ill-advised to reverse it by the Northern elements cabals within NNPC most of them top flight civil servants. The GMD at the time boasted he will get to 100% optimum operations within six months. This is 12 years! Yar'Adua did reverse it and it has continued to be a drain on the Nation's scarce resources till date. Now you see our government officials taking excursion trips to the Dangote refinery in Lekki Lagos while being clueless about the National assets in Warri and Portharcourt.

The refineries capacity utilization for July was 4.83% and August 3.02%. In August the refineries operational deficit was N10.45bn. Is this what we call national asset?

Buhari’s Govt, Worst In Nigeria’s History – Agbakoba

A former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Dr Olisa Agbakoba (SAN), said on Tuesday that President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration is the worst in the history of Nigeria.

Agbakoba, who is one of the leaders of the National Intervention Movement, described the last four years under Buhari as locust years, saying the Coalition of United Political Parties were determined to save the country by bringing Buhari’s reign to an end.

He described Buhari’s re-election mantra of “Next Level,” as a failed document and one lacking in “conceptual overhang”.

Agbakoba, who rated the campaign document of the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, better than Buhari’s, said were the presidential election to hold today, Atiku would win, while Buhari would come “distant second”.

He, however, expressed the fear that Buhari, if defeated, might not be willing to relinquish power, decrying the presence of the service chiefs at the launch of Buhari’s re-election campaign on Sunday.

The lawyer spoke with journalists in his Ikoyi, Lagos office on Tuesday morning.

He said, “We clearly understand that to win the forthcoming elections, we require a united opposition. So, all the parties are simply presenting their presidential candidates but by January, the CUPP will formalise its consensus candidate.

“It may well be Atiku or it may not but the person who will be chosen must be one who has the heavy-lifting, who can get the job done.

“Personally, I’m pro-Atiku because I think he has the heavy-lifting but I will not preempt anything.

“We are all united in the mantra and the strong song around our campaign; that is: Anybody but Buhari. That’s the campaign – Anybody but Buhari.

“We are making sure that the four locust years from 2015 to 2019 will never repeat themselves in Nigeria. This has been the worst government in Nigeria’s history.

“Unemployment rate at 20 million, youth unemployment is so high, inflation at about 18 per cent, borrowing requirement or interest rate at about 22 per cent; nothing is working. So, we need to do something to reclaim it.

“So, that’s the message; we are working with the united opposition party, which we now have. Obasanjo’s own is called ADC, I am affiliated to the Peoples Trust and all of these come under the umbrella of the third force.”

PoliticsOsinbajo The Crook by Ratello(op): 4:50am On Nov 16, 2018
Tony Osborgassertion

Going by the precedents set by Pastor Osinbajo, his boss and their party, I am sure it will not be inappropriate to refer to Osinbajo as a thief for his involvement in this 5.8billion NEMA Scam.

Let me explain.

As acting president, Osinbajo approved a 5.8b Naira payment under the pretense that starvation was imminent in the Northeast. At the end, the state governments (the real beneficiaries) confirmed to the House Committee that they never received the food paid for, although Osinbajo is insisting that the grains were delivered.

Now to the main issue.

By Osinbajo standard, the only legacy left by the Jonathan administration was the looting of billions of Naira in the name of Northeast insecurity, only for the money to make it's way to funding elections across Nigeria. It is possible that Jonathan was deceived into releasing those funds, it is possible that he was not and was complicit. Whatever way it went, Jonathan was blamed for the fraud despite the fact that up till date, no evidence has revealed that part of the money got into his private pocket.

Now fast forward to today.

NEMA came up with a claim that there was imminent hunger and starvation in the Northeast and therefore funds should be released. The same thing the security chiefs did under Jonathan.

Remember, as at today, the North East probably has more international donor and charity organizations than anywhere else in Africa, but yet, NEMA & Osinbajo made us believe that if 5.8billion was not approved and released under an 'emergency' arrangement, people would die of hunger. This is aside the fact that there are functional state and LGA governments in those areas.

Osinbajo in his wisdom, insisted that the money be approved without recourse to the National Assembly.

To cut long story short, contractors got money, NEMA got hundreds of millions to bag the grains and provide logistics. The state government did not see grains. Money had been stolen. Osinbajo kept quiet. NASS committee found out and blew the whistle.

If you read the response from the vice president office, you will see his usual sophistry and deceit. He spent more time talking about the imminent danger of starvation than in answering the question of whether the food was delivered and why NASS was not consulted. That is his style.

Osinbajo has just committed the same crime he has always accused Jonathan of. It is possible that he was deceived into committing the crime, it is possible that he knew the game. What I do not understand is how he feels so comfortable repeating the same line about the previous administration.

Jonathan stole money in the name of insecurity, Osinbajo has always said so. Osinbajo/Buhari has done the same in the name of imminent starvation. We have found out.

Like I have always said, be careful of those who always chant 'anti-corruption' in Nigeria. Look closer and you will see their hypocrisy.

If you do not understand what motivates them, you will never understand their true intention.

Let us continue to pretend that we can patronize the Nigerian system without becoming inadvertently involved in acts of corruption.

Indeed, corruption is fighting back.

There is no reason why that NEMA Boss should still remain in office.

For the average Nigerian politician, every disaster is an opportunity to steal. If there is no disaster, they simply create one.

BusinessWhy Is Kuwaiti Dinar The Highest-Valued Currency In The World! by Ratello(op): 3:27am On Nov 04, 2018
Why is Kuwaiti Dinar the highest-valued currency in the world and what at the consequences of this exchange rate vs. the dollar on oil prices? Below are answers I got from the web which are subjected to critical reasoning and debates;

Before answering the question , let's examine some facts , to make sure you and I are on the same page.

1 Kuwaiti Dinar =US$3.27 = £2.64 = €3.08

Now let's move onto the question , most people question this and it's a good question.

So , to answer this you have to know something about import and export.

Import - when a good/service is brought into one country

Export - when a good/service is sold to another country

Now imagine you are a country A's President , your people are really hard-working and talented but your patch of land lacks natural resources , so what do you do?

You make money for your country on the hardwork of your people and you import those resources from countries who are blessed with it.

Now if you have a currency A$ and the country which you are imported from has B$ , so how will you buy stuff?

You'll buy B$ for your A$ in your international market thus rising the demand and value for B$ and making its value go up.

(This is over simplification , it's very complicated and many factors are involved here)

So in the above example , country A are countries like the US , UK , Japan etc. Country B are countries like Kuwait , Saudi Arabia etc. And the resource is Oil. It's so useful that demand is always high and the Middle Eastern countries do not compete , they coordinate and mark up the price as they want.

And there currency's value go up and up and up.

Countries like the US , UK , India try to control this using Monetary policy this attracting foreign investment and exports but middle eastern countries don't want either.

That's my explanation for why the Dinars and Dirams are always flying.

Some of the reasons why Kuwaiti Dinar has a high value:

First of all, it is a fixed rate currency, so it maintains its high value without being directly affected by market supply/demand. It is the central bank which has decided to peg the Dinar to the US dollar, in order to make oil export even more profitable.Kuwait has nearly 10% of the world's oil reserves.Petroleum accounts for nearly half of GDP.Petroleum also accounts for 95% of export revenues and government income.Kuwait has a well-developed banking system (that can actually maintain this fixed rate).Kuwait is a tax free country.

However, the country seems to delay some diversification methods and does not change its economic view (It heavily counts on oil) . Yet, it may be a problem for the long term future, as people will try to switch to electric cars, solar batteries, etc.

I hope this was informative!

Regards,

Bob Parker

The exchange rate between any two currencies at a single point in time is largely meaningless. A government can introduce a new currency and declare its value to be anything it wants, and as long as people are willing to accept that value, that's what it is.

A currency unit is basically a unit of measure, and the relative size of that unit is based on a reference point. In the past a single currency unit may have been based on a certain quantity of gold or silver. Today, many countries peg their currencies to another currency or a basket of currencies. The Kuwaiti Dinar is pegged to a basket of currencies roughly equal to $3.60. Meanwhile, the Chinese Yuan is pegged to a basket of currencies roughly equal to $0.16. It's the same concept, China just uses a smaller basket as its reference point.

Another way to think of it, some people measure water in gallons, and some measure it in liters. A gallon is about 4 times larger than a liter, but that doesn't mean that people who use gallons have more water.

The Kuwaiti dinar started its life as being pegged to one of the highest valued currencies in the world ( The British Pound ), and kept its value better due to the reasons listed in the other answers (oil revenues, the basket of currencies it had been linked to, etc.)

If it started out as having been equal in value to the Indian rupee ( like the UAE dirham) it would have 3/40ths of its current value, given the then peg between the Indian rupee and pound sterling.

If it had lost value as quickly as the Israeli Lira ( which is 1/10000th the value of the current Israeli currency the Israeli new shekel), it would have been worth approximately 1/30000th of a US Dollar.

From what I understand, Kuwait is one of the major exporter of Oil. Kuwait has proven crude oil reserves of 104 billion barrels (15 km³),estimated to be 10% of the world's reserves. and the country’s economy earns the 75% part of its income from this. Being a tax-free country, Kuwait's oil industry accounts for 75% of government revenue. Petroleum and petrochemicals accounts for 43% of GDP and 90% of export revenues.

Their main imports include wide range of basic necessities ranging from food products and textiles to machinery.
Hence, they benifit by pegging their exchange rate at a high level as this earns them more income because their exports are much more valued than their imports. (In 2011, estimated exports stood at US$94.47 billion and imports were around US$22.41 billion).

Note: 1 Kuwaiti Dinar equals N1,193.69 (Nigerian Naira)!

https://www.quora.com/Why-is-Kuwaiti-Dinar-the-highest-valued-currency-in-the-world-and-what-at-the-consequences-of-this-exchange-rate-vs-the-dollar-on-oil-prices

FamilyN50,000 Per Month Husband? Consider This Ladies! by Ratello(op): 2:19pm On Nov 02, 2018
Below is a beautiful piece composed by a lady friend on my Facebook page worth sharing. It was a story of life about marriage, though not yet married but her argument is based on why *Ladies should consider all the factors needed to be consulted before taking a plunge into a marriage of 50k per month spouse". Happy reading.

My parents started life with "face me i face you compound" .they suffered ehn because "money didn't dey..."
.
I gave my younger sister 4 years gap because money no dey ,so they had to do family planning and wait for another 4 years to have my last sister ...
.
I share these stories so you can see that life in marriage is hard and money is important...
.
We lived in a leaking house for years without toilet cos we couldn't afford a decent accommodation...
.
I watched my mother trek with pregnancy of each of my siblings under hot sun ....
.
They suffered ehn..mummy had a provision shop ..at a point ,profit entered into house keeping and everything folded...
.
My dad took loans from the bank several times and paid through his nose ...*sad sigh*..i was the first child so i was in the "know of all the money struggles ..
.
Anyone born in the 1980's , food was cheap then relatively..
Bus fare was 5 naira ..the economy was good ..cement was 400 naira a bag ..with 10 naira ,you can buy bread .5 Naira had value..yet people suffered.
.
Now everything don "da baaru "..
I blame Buhari...
.
If you are still opening your big mouth to talk about your parents using less than 50k to take care of you and your siblings those years ,you need a brain check ..
.
Instead of looking for a way to change the narratives, you want to tow that line again ?
God forbid it on your behalf...
.
I reject poverty for you in Jesus name !!
.
Struggle to better your life ....
Make a decision to give your own kids a life better than what your parents gave you and your siblings
.
.
I won't blame my parents for having 5 kids ,i would have blamed them for having 8 or 9...God knows i would have ...
.
Inasmuch as i love kids..
I wont bring my son and daughters into the world to suffer...
.
But my decision is this ..
If i have to plant cassava and sell to chase poverty away completely from my lineage ,i will ...
.
If you haven't suffered in life or paid huge bills ..stop arguing about this...
.
Its not a good place to be ..
Trust me....
.
Financial independence and freedom should be your everyday goal...chase the papers with aggressive hustle ..
.
Stop enabling poverty..
If you enjoy life when you are alive ,will you die ?
If your kids attend good schools ,will you die ?
.
If you eat good food ,will heaven fall ??

Change your mindset please .
.
This will be my last post on this ...
.
Let me go and cry first as i just remembered some things ..
.
God ,

Once banned from the U.S., Atiku set for historic address in Washington, New-York.

On December 14-17, 2018, Mr Abubakar Atiku the Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate for the 2019 election will address a meeting of leaders in Washington and New-York, Per Second News gathered on Thursday.

It will be a historic moment in the political career of the 72-year-old former vice -president, born to a Fulani trader, Garba Atiku, a stunning turnaround for a man once banned from entering the United States.
Atiku Abubakar became the only child of his parents when his only sister died at infancy.

Atiku was severally denied a visa to enter the United States on moral grounds, stemming from allegations that he tacitly supported graft in the United States involving a former Congressman.

Atiku will hold discussions with think-tank, academic, and non-governmental experts on Nigeria, a meeting with officials at the U.S. Department of State, and an off-the record meeting with some US agencies.

Atiku and his party’s delegation will have an opportunity to share their perspectives on upcoming elections and lay out their strategies for enforcing good conduct among candidates, promoting issue-based rather than personality-driven campaigning, ensuring a tone of moderation in the debates, and encouraging respect for the election outcome.

The State Department has ended a 10-year diplomatic boycott imposed on the politician, said a top official in Washington.

The former Governor of Ogun state and Director General of the Atiku campaign organisation, Gbenga Daniel, on Wednesday said that the American Embassy has been calling on the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to come forward so he could be issued a visa.
