tpia5: I think the major difference is in length. It has nothing to do with the length. The popular Cartoon Series "Tom And Jerry" is an animation just as much as the lengthy "Lion King" franchise. A cartoon is a comical drawing of a character or thing. It doesn't move and is usually 2 dimensioned. An Animation is the process of giving life to the drawn cartoon characters and can be 2 to 3 dimensioned depending on the level of technology on offer. Both of them complements each other beautifully, which is why we have the ever growing genre of animated 3D cartoons nowadays. "Despicable Me", "Lion King", and "Crood" are few examples of animated 3D cartoon Blockbusters. |
"The Strain" Typically, I don't binge on new TV shows until they are more than 5 episodes. I like continuity. I've had my eyes on "The Strain" for a while when FX announced that they will be debuting "Something different" this July after the season finale of Fargo. I love FX, they are pretty good at anthropological TV series if "Fargo" and "American Horror Story" success stories were anything to go by. So, when the trailer came out, I watched it on YouTube, and I liked what I'd seen. It showed glimpses of post-apocalypse Earth, the world in Chaos, and Zombie-like blood suckers on the loose. Then when it premiered last week, faithful to my formula, I ignored it cuz I've already decided to wait after the 5th week to binge. Then came the hype. People started gushing about the show all over the place, how it's better than "The Walking Dead", how it's a true vampire TV show... blah blah blah. I tried to resist the curiosity, but I finally succumbed to the pressure last night and decided to see what the hype's all about. I watched the premiere online and... it was disappointing. I've seen great shows, the type that kept you at the edge of your seat and made you craving for more of the same after each closing credits, "The Strain" isn't one of them. I nearly dozed off watching it and believe me, that doesn't happen to me when I watch a particularly good show. From what I've been able to garner from the pilot, the plot holes are already significant. -First one: "This is very serious, we have ourselves a dead plane" - Bishop. How the fvck did he arrive suddenly at that assumption? Okay, maybe the plane's cold on the outside, but what about the inside? For all I know it might have been a hostage situation on board. -2nd One: Releasing of the 4 survivors was a plot mistake. In the real world, CDC were very meticulous and careful and would never have allowed those survivors to leave in less than 36 hours. 5 days quarantine is the minimum isolation time to determine effectively that the subjects in question ain't a danger to the general populace. Allowing them to suddenly go bordered on unrealism and a lil' bit of desperation. You see, the next chapter of the storyline depends on the freedom of the survivors. -3rd One: Government Conspiracy and Cover-ups stealing the spotlight. Right now, I can't tell if the show's a political, Horror or mystery drama series. The Federal Government feeding the public a made up crap concerning the ill-fated airplane most certainly put it within the political and mystery ballpark. -4th One: More than 200 people died on that plane. You can't simply explain away your problems when the families of the deceased can still perform their own autopsies whenever they gained access to their loved one bodies. Huge gaping plot hole right here. There are 2 others that I'll not be addressing just yet till they aired the next episode. Bottom Line: It's still early days, so maybe all these plot holes will be addressed and fixed, but for now, this show is nothing but a piece of crap. |

I didn't exactly cry, but they touched something core in me that facilitated blurred eyes. -Titanic (When Jack died) - The NoteBook (When Duke and Allie died together holding hands) -The Perfect Storm (When Frank and the crew all died at sea). |
Guykhena: NerdDifferent ship, same difference. I don't mind being called a nerd myself. |

tuagbo: @Ray Mcblue I agree 200% with your post. My honourable mentions are Richard Pryor and Bill CosbyFlattered, @tuagbo. ![]() Bill Cosby is a Legend. The first actor of African American background to land a Leading role in a major Television production, "I, Spy" back in the 1960s. A multiple Award winner, Cosby's greatest television success however came in 1984 with the debut of "The Cosby Show." The program aired weekly on NBC and went on to become the highest ranking sitcom of all time. Quite a Landmark. Cosby's current role as the man-behind-the-man in American media world can rightfully put in him a special niche that transcends all the pettiness associated with rivalries. He's a Mentor, Creator and a Living Legend. #Respect Richard Pryor had a Comedic history that paralleled that of Cosby's but had to live in the shadow of the later until his eventual demise 10 years ago. Still a notable mention, however. |
"Keeping Up With The KarTRASHians" A TV show for Teenage gals that don't know any better. Nice Slogan ![]() |
Eddie Murphy is the king of Comedy and mentored a lot of up and comers. Chris Rock named him as a major influence while growing up. Eddie is known as the one-man-acting-crew as he solely writes, produces, directs and plays the leading role(s) in most of his popular Hollywood movies. Will Smith has a comedic background but had to tone down the persona in order to land more serious roles in Grade A Hollywood thrillers. A successful Metamorphosis if "I, Robot", "I Am Legend", and "Enemy Of the State" were of any indications. Martin Payne is apparently the less popular of the trio and shouldn't even be on the list. Chris Rock taking his place would make this battle more of a contest, IMHO. Bottom Line: As it stands, with Will Smith being the only true contender to Eddie on the List, Eddie wins out easily enough as the funniest of the lot. |
I haven't been able to find another comedic TV show that appealed to me the way Boston Legal did. The duo of Alan Shore and Denny Crane kept me laughing the duration of the Five Seasons. -30 Rock appealed to me as well. I was particularly in fond of the Liz Lemon character. -Modern family used to be hilarious, but seemed to have lost it's touch last 2 seasons ago. -Arrested Development is funny but too silly, they need to dial it down a notch. -I find Big Bang Theory's incessant 'laugh' sound effect highly irritating. It goes off at the slightest silly comment, no matter how unfunny. -How I met Your Mother got ruined by the disappointing Season finale. My best Comedy TV shows: Boston Legal and 30 Rock |
khanivorous: This show is way better than black sail.. John malkovich doesn't disappoint. You need to see the plots of black beard.I beg to differ. Not even a guilty pleasure, Black Sails is arrrrrr-estingly good! Alliances are made and broken, power shifts go this way and that, blood is spilled, and wenches keep wenching. It's highly addictive. Visually, it's very appealing, and chock full of the all profanities and vulgarity you'd expect from a Pay cable channel. NBC's Crossbones fall flat by comparison. I don't care much for a censored Pirate show, no matter how mild. |
Have seen the premiere and the 2nd episode, then lost interest. Couldn't stack up to the standards set by it's direct competitor, Starz's Black Sails. |

Guykhena: DC are failures just admit that. Before Marvel Comics, there was DC Comics. Marvel comics is currently undergoing some midlife crisis of some kind and might implode altogether. That's what failure looks like. DC is dignified and calm. We don't compete with anyone, we move at our own pace and whenever we do release a motion picture or a TV show, it's resounding success story is inevitable. Don't envy, it's bad form. |
Guykhena: @bolded,exactly what DC are known for, they don't give a fvck about their comic characters, and just do what they like, that explains why whenever DC brings their characters to the big screen, its a huge failure, check out Green Lantern...Hmmn... Strange, cuz last time I checked both the TDK and Man of Steel were resounding success stories. -Smallville became the longest ever running Superhero themed TV series till date. Guess who was the protagonist? Yep, the man of steel himself. (Don't deny it, I know you loved him in secret). -Oliver Queen is currently making all the Marvel's fan babies green with envy (pun intended) with his explosive performance in the hit TV show: Arrow. (Don't be ashamed, I know you wanna migrate to DC just just about now). -The newest DC delight: Flash is about to debut... Oh wait! The premiered leaked online already and everyone loved it, most of all, the Marvel fan babies. (Oh, the irony). Marvel's only claim to Television is the ridiculous and just cancelled Agent of Shield TV show that had no business debuting at all. What a joke. Now, I know what a failure looks like. We do give a fvck about our Supes alright. Why shouldn't we? DC Universe is where all the real action is after all. Give thanks. |
phantom: I love Cranston but Kevin spacey all the way baby!!Yeah, Kevin Spacey gave a very admirable performance as Francis Underwood that rivaled Cranston's Walter White but none of them can hold a candle to the brilliant and enigmatic Matthew McConaughey's Rustin Cohle. Yup, McConaughey's gonna win, it's inevitable. |
Guykhena:Sorry to disappoint you mate, but every DC fella knows the difference between a TV series and a movie and wouldn't get so befuddled by the concept as to formulate a comical hybridical name - however inadvertently - in order to translate his thoughts into words. That's a typical Marvel behaviour IMHO. ![]() Guykhena: But can't you just look pass that, and go with what the context is aboutNope, based on principles alone, I wouldn't be able to look past the blunder even if I wanted to. You can call that arrogance all you want, but really, I don't give a flying fvck. ![]() |
"Series movies." Okay, that's hilarious. ![]() |

ITbomb: ^^^ Here we go againToyota is not the same as Jeep, mate, and here's why: https://www.allvehicleaccessories.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/TOYOTA-PRADO.jpg Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is a mid-size four-wheel drive vehicle in the Toyota Land Cruiser range produced by the Japanese car maker Toyota Motor Corporation. https://www.caradvice.com.au/thumb/480/240/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/2013-jeep-wrangler-overland-1-e1356037854142.jpg Jeep is a brand of American automobiles that is a division of Chrysler Group LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Italian multinational automaker Fiat S.p.A. Bottom Line: While they are both of four-wheel drive extraction, they are of different car brands and the products of two completely different Industries. Don't be a learner. |
mentorken05: I have seenLemme educate you a little on this matter. A Movie is basically a story or event recorded by a camera as a set of moving images and shown in a theater or on television: a motion picture. Hollywood is an American Movie Industry that own the sole proprietary rights to the production, marketing and distribution of all movies in America. Example of Hollywood blockbusters: The Avengers, Avatar, Titanic. A TV Series, also called TV show, is a segment of content intended for broadcast on television network or cable . It may be anthropological in nature, a one-time production or part of a recurring series. Television Networks and Cable Channels owns the proprietary rights to the production and airing of TV shows. Hollywood is not involved in any way. Examples of award winning TV shows: Game Of Thrones, The Sopranos, 24 and Homeland. Bottom Line: TV Series and Movies may have few similarities but their diversities far outweighs the former. -Movies are shown on theaters, Internet and Television, TV series are shown on Internet and Television. -Movies comes in parts or volumes, TV shows are Episodic. -Movies run seamlessly(without interruption) till the closing credits, TV shows are often interrupted by commercial breaks. -Movies are annual, TV shows are seasonal. -Movies win Oscars and Baftas, TV shows win Emmys and Saturns. It would do you a world of good to learn and know all these important difference so as to stop committing the embarrassing and recurring blunder of referring TV shows as Movies and Vice Versa. Thank you. |

ITbomb: If someone ask me, "driving a lamborgini and eating bread with akara, which one is better? " I would promptly answer the obvious without saying that they have nothing in common .Well, I don't see the logic in that. When you go to a mall and walked into the electronic section, do you buy the bigger plasma screen you see or do you spend your hard earned cash on the much smaller LCD flat screen? Both are flat screens, right? -Which one would you go for? The one that is more affordable. -Which one is that? LCD flat screen. -Which one is better? Plasma Flat Screen. -Can you afford it? No Not everything is black and white, you gotta watch out for the grey areas. |
Both TV series are of different genres. You can't compare stuffs that have nothing in common with one another, can you? -24 is a political drama thriller, GOT is a fantasy horror adventure drama. -24 deals with fictional politics in real life scenerio, GOT deals with real life politics in a fantasy setting. -24 is a modern shoot-it-all action sequence, GOT is medieval leather, sword and sandal action sequence. -24 has one protogonist, GOT has several protagonists. -24 occurs in real time, GOT doesn't. -24 is 13 years old, GOT is 4 years old. -24 is mildly censored and PG-13, GOT is strictly for Matured Audience only. If you must do the comparing game, at least pick a TV show of similar genre. For example, the more accurate rivals of 24 are Strike Back and Homeland, GOT's rivals: Camelot and Spartacus. |
