Asiconoclastic, logomarchy, muruntum imkpavu, mutum mpafu,! These use of verbiage can deplete one's bandwidth. @TheSonofMark and co, can I be yhur collective boy? I promise not to denigrate yhu in public.
Car TalkRe: Which Would You Buy And Why ? 4runner Or Nissan Pathfinder by Raymie(m): 1:24am On Mar 22, 2015
Every car comes with its peculiar issues. The EOD/DC is known for her ball joint issues, yet she still sells like pure water in Nigeria. Until yhur post, I honestly haven't yet come across any 4runner with ripped off wheels. Go for any of the two. They're both sturdy vehicles . I reecommend either platinum trim for the Pathfinder, or the 4runner Limited, whichever is cheaper for yhu to acquire. Best of luck.

Going by the manufacturer's ranking, the Pathy was and is above the xterra and xtrail.
True dat. But in 9ja our ranking is size oriented most of the time. That's why the 1997-2005 Pathfinder is regarded as small compared to her xterra counterpart despite the former being more kitted.

Lol @ 'baby jeep', what would people call xterra and xtrail if pathy is called such?
The Xterra till 2005 had been bigger (taller & longer) than the Path of same year. Where I stay, any SUV perceived to be smaller than the Toyota Highlander by as little as 1 inch is a 'baby jeep'.
Car TalkRe: Which Would You Buy And Why ? 4runner Or Nissan Pathfinder by Raymie(m): 1:05pm On Mar 19, 2015
Luxury of ride does depend on trim. I've ridden in both vehicles, Limited and Platinum trims and they possess similar bells and whistles. One thing I agree with yhu @Lomomike, is that the Pathfinder does have better road manners. However, the Path cannot 'oppress' like the 4runner since it is more or less regarded as a 'baby jeep'. They're both sturdy vehicles nonetheless.
Car TalkRe: Which Would You Buy And Why ? 4runner Or Nissan Pathfinder by Raymie(m): 10:59am On Mar 19, 2015
Personally, similarly priced, I'd pick the 4runner only because its the bigger of the two. Size=space. Other characteristics are similar, engine displacement, reliability and so forth.
Car TalkRe: A Story On Poor Safety Records Of Some American Cars by Raymie(m): 9:49am On Mar 18, 2015
Could just imagine myself being in the girl's shoes. Horrible way to die! And to think these cars are shipped off here as 'clean toks'. And kazeem or weeches then get to take blame for factory errors (not absolving Kazeem of any blame tho). After reading the link, I went on to read reviews of the said car. Very very terrible reviews by owners. Yet the car sold up till 2010 or so.

Ever since Merc went US, things started going wrong, It got to the crescendo with the Merger of Daimler and Chrysler. Thank goodness the Germans realised the evil going on among American car makers. But the effect of the merger was and still is reliability issues which affected Mercs. Despite the huge bailout, they stool looked and feel like shoddy job done-which they are actually. Look at most American cars produced during the American automotive recession down to the global economic recession around 2013, you'll hate anything wearing an American badge on wheel.
Sometimes when I see how people bash the Kia Rio here, I wish they'd take a ride in a Chevrolet Aveo. Doubts will surely be cleared. I took a ride in one of them Abuja cabs and told myself I won't try it again. And this ish didn't only affect American brands, the Toyota/Honda recalls were very prominent around that era as well.

I didn't insult anyone, and if there is anyone on this forum who is overly biased, emotional and ove r sentimental then it is that person u are defending. He treats other models on their merits? Ha ha, I laugh. U probably missed all his past posts where he calls everyone driving an automatic shift car dummies just because his beloved Peugeots normally come with manual shifts, or those his posts where he blasted anything Japanese especially Toyota. This same person will hide any posts that contradicts or sees things differently as him just because he is a moderator. Though recently he has kept his calm when he got lots of criticism.
I didn't write that yhu insulted him, because yhu didn't. But yhu derided him by yhur statement. I haven't yet read him denigrating auto tranny users and while I know his bias for Peugeot is obsessive, Ikenna as long as I've been on Cartalk has never put off another car brand. At most he argues based on particular model issue. See the EOD vs 406 thread for instance.

Please raymie and smartchoice, let's cool down and enjoy Mr ikenna's break down on the peugeot 607, you can learn one or two things from it. After the review then you can throw in questions and abnormalities you experienced with a peugeot and I am sure experts will help out.

You stand to gain and others will also gain after all no man is an island of knowledge. Thank you

When I came to nairaland, the car that was bashed then was a VW passat, once you mention that car, they always tell you RUN, RUN but I am not deterred by that, the passat and jetta a now very much common and around and if I am opportuned to purchase a sedan, it definitely going to be a PASSAT CC with diesel engine.
Why would someone due to his hatred of something resort to dropping both veiled and open insults towards another's person? A person he probably has neither seen nor encountered before. To what end? And he calls himself an elder. Yhu hate Peugeot, fine. Yhu think the car has issues, valid. But going to call someone delusional, and a con is IMHO totally uncalled for. Has he conned yhu or any person yhu know before. Let our biases not drive us to blind hate, especially when we can't do any better ourselves. Now @Smartchoices had resorted to insulting my parentage and upbringing of which I know is far more decent than his (not his parents' fault. They just bore a terrible child). I'm not as fanatical about Pugs as @Ikenna351, though I drive one. I am privileged to have owned and driven other brands, and each vehicle and brand do have their merits and faults. This Ikenna that @Smartchoice and @Abatically take pleasure in deriding, despite his apparent inclinations does treat other brands and models on their merit. Its then one old man that spams the Merc thread with endless complaints and fruitless arguments that I will listen to? On what basis? To learn how to troll? (Apparently he became so disgusted with his previous NL persona and decided to deactivate his account and has set about redisgusting himself again, this time in plural form).

Buh since yhu apparently cannot do so, other than spam @Kuntash's Mercedes thread with yhur never ending complaints and vague arguments with people more knowledgeable than yhurself, then I suggest yhu kindly shut up, allow Peugeot drivers drown in their misery and probably expose @Ikenna351 for the con that he is. Clarkson's prejudices, biases and other pet hates are well known to the people who watch this programme, and I would think reasonably well-informed people don't bother with a lot of the stuff he spews most of the time. As a matter of fact, in his prejudices and biases, Mr. Clarkson is a typical Englishman. The English are an insular and slightly xenophobic nation, who are quite disturbed about the fact that their country hosts one of the most multicultural areas on the world in London. Why else do you think his programme is so popular? He says the things that a lot of his countrymen feel.

I view Top Gear more as light comedy with occasional flashes of seriousness and brilliance and a lot of testosterone and as such I would refrain from adopting views espoused by such a programme as gospel except when I am reasonably familiar with the subject matter in question. For example, I have never driven (or even seen) a limited edition Ferrari or a Lambo or some of the exotic cars they get to play with on the programme and as so I have no opinion w,r.t these cars or the merits thereof. However the 407 and or the 607 and a couple of the other Pugs they bashed and so forth I do know a bit about, enough to state that I agree with their view in said instance.
Yhur assertion on the Top gear team is largely correct.
However, their points on the terribleness of peugeot majorly bordered on the Looks, ergonomics and electrics. Hammond for all I care trashed that 407 for nothing. Same with Clarkson. Now do tell. How many 407s have yhu seen on the road driving so wobbly, causing traffic buildups and crashing anyhow? And how many 307s have yhu had to rescue from fires due to HVAC manfunction or some electric short circuiting? Don't know about yhur location, buh wherr I stay, we have more than a fair share of Peugeots. I drive a 407. She drives straight. Haven't crashed it yet. Aircon's good. And so far I haven't noticed or gone to rescue any 307s from burning. My principal has been using her 307 since 2003. I visited early in the year, the car was still there.

Don't stoop this low in arguing over this. It appears you really don't know the racism that has been going on in Top gear with regards to French, not just a Peugeot company.

https://www.nairaland.com/2190099/jeremy-clarkson-top-gear-host

When a racist or tribalist wants to review something from a tribe or race he hates, what exactly do you expect to get? Even positives will be twisted to look negative when such fellow speaks.

Anyway, I have been getting more calls and messages from people that have seen and read this thread, indicating interest to own lions. So, guys, please keep updating the thread. It really helps.

As from tomorrow, I will start reviewing the 607.

Ikenna
I don't see it that way, and neither should yhu . I doubt if the parody was racially motivated because I've watched an episode where the rover brand was utterly decimated by the clarkson/Hammond duo. And Rover was Brittsh. Although, the Top Gear presenters have been accused of racism and all kind of phobia (they're currently in a spat with Mexico over racist slurs used in an episode), methinks we have become too sensitive to gestures and words and so on that even harmless jokes are analysed and interpreted in the meanest possible way.

I said it! Ik just looking for co travelers in misery by encouraging people to purchase cars that were deliberately mismanufactured...by Peugeot itself...by deliberately producing terrible vehicles for decades! A word is enough for the wise!....by cars that will not turn you to a mechanic like ikenna351!...cars are a means to a end and not the end in itself!
Ikenna likes his misery, let him enjoy it. He doesn't need to look for co travelers. The military, judiciary, bank, government who use Pugs as utility vehicles are more than enough co travelers that share in his "misery" Enjoy yhur 1999 w202 c class which currently has lower resale value than the camry/corolla of same year. Precisely. Or when Clarkson pretended to set the car on fire by repeatedly pressing the temperature control. The aim of the feature was to show up the glitches and alleged poor build quality of those cars as opposed to Peugeot's better offerings. The mucking about with the turn circle and all that was all very exaggerated of course, but the point was made - those cars, coming from a reputable manufacturer like Peugeot, do seem to be a result of deliberate intention, not omission.
So, yhu mean to tell me that a brand with a lot at stake will just deliberately go out and create moving disasters to achieve what? Which brand does not have complaints of poor build? LandRovers/RangeRovers have almost never seemed to get their dashboards right . Same with Toyota. The Merc is widely known for rust issues. Recent offerings have not seemed to solve that. (my boss has a 2010 c300 with rust. The Japs have a myriad of issues from mild to life threatening. I've watched Top Gear ridicule the BMW x6 and the Tesla Roadster so bad. So if we're to go by their reviews, many cars we currently drive wouldn't be on the road.

U fail to get the gist. It wasn't about the ruggedity of the cars based on the body, it was about reliability and cars being able to work when u need them. Any car will dent when subjected to the kind of hardship those Peugeots went through.... Eod, corolla, Camry, c class, Ferrari, or Bugatti.

However what they tried to show us was how unpredictable newer Peugeots are especially in the area of electrical problems (even though some people will deny that). Clarke demonstrated that with the 306 cc where the window refused to go down on one end.

Anyway, in Hammond's voice, 'For the past decade, Peugeot has deliberately decided to make terrible cars'.
Basically Hammond had issues with the instrumentation layout of his 307cc. That fire incident is exaggerated. And Jeremy just decided to trash his 407 for no reason. My take, Peugeot cars while not bland as Toyota aren't designed to evoke o la las like her other Eurocars. Even citroen/Renault part of the PSA group, produce far sexier cars. However, peugeots in this parts are bought or their practicality, endurance and sturdiness. Every automaker has their target market. Some are after luxury, others performance driven. Peugeot offers mid level luxury at lower cost than competition. At least I love my dash, and my colleagues are wowed by the array of gadgets my car has for its model year and my climate control hasn't caught fire yet. If the brand was such a failure as yhu put it, or evil as smartchoice describes it, then our maintenance averse corporate bodies and institutions would not buy into it would they? And for troublesome electrics, I await TopGear's analysis of the 2001-2010 VWPassat/Jetta.

Just finished watching the clip. Hilarious I must say, even though my car's sister was put in the fray. However one thing I want us to observe was while they trashed the cars about, look at the body composition, hardly any major dents and bumpers falling and trailing off. Big scrapes on Hammond's car however. Now let them try that on an 06 corolla/EOD/camry or C class, I'm sure they wouldn't fare so well.

And what makes Peugeots a failure? At least let's consider all these 505s that do saharan tours and 504s that carry plantains and jerrycans meant for trucks. Or is it the 504/05-508 used as fleet vehicles by government/corporate bodies/security corps. Its all in the maintenance and intended use. Car TalkRe: States In Nigeria And The Predominant Car Brand They Use by Raymie(m): 7:28pm On Mar 10, 2015
The use of vehicles in Nigeria was a geo political thingy with each zone having its prefered vehicles circa 2000 (West-Datsun Nissan/Toyota, East- Volvo/Mecerdes, North- Peugeot/Honda, South-South-Volkswagen/Audi). From 2000 onwards, vehicle delineations have narrowed out with most brands being used everywhere irrespective of location. The North has largely remained to Honda and some parts of the west still cling to the remnants of the Datsun dynasty (Micra, primera, bluebird). The South East/ South South has become more open to choice of vehicles.
