Op I have seen that camry infact lots of them with check engine light and they are still going strong and have been driven for years with that issue but when I see an avensis in mecho workshop it has been for body part replacement or repainting but I believe the engine is very reliable now there is an engine variant of that camry that is trouble ANYONE who knows shud help the op out. Also V6 engines kinda give mecho headaches and the camry has a V6 variant.
Now op both cars maintenance will almost be the same as the difference will be negligible what remains now is which one you fancy and go for it, just ensure you buy a clean ride and call us for car warming ceremony best of luck bro

Methinks its the 03 Camry (and i4 highlander) that has the engine issue. Bolts coming off engine block. Dunno the engine spec. Toyota resolved that in the 04-06 variants.

Camry does have fog lights, only the LE north american variant doesn't. Camry started offering fog lights in 2002. But you are giving this guy a good argument, well done. Avensis and Camry are not in the same league at all.

FYI the 02-06 Camry has always had foglights as an option regardless of trim and spec. Now comparing features on trim, tell me what edge an 05 camry has over an Avensis of same year Give me a better argument.

I don't see having fog lights as a big advantage. Even a 2014 Mercedes Benz S class doesn't have fog lights.. does that make it any inferior? XLE models of 2005 camry has fog lights. The only area I see the Avensis superior to the Camry is the number of airbags. If u think the 2005 Camry is boring to drive then the 2005 Avensis is terrible to drive. The car is slow as hell, 9.1 secs 0-60 for the 2.4L engine? No wonder pundits say the 2005 Avensis is less fun to drive than a Vectra.

Chief, I answered yhur question starting from entry level features before the highest trim. The S class since 2006 does have fog lights as standard. The chrome striping in the 2014 has LED lamps embedded. And I never opined that the Avensis was a more interesting car to drive as I haven't driven any. Besides, Toyota does not pride itself as a driver involving marque. However, if I have 1.6m to choose between a toks XLE Camry and T3-X Avensis, kit to kit, look to look, resale value to value, yhu know where my loyalties lie. They are both bland cars but the Camry though roomier, is the blandest both in and out. @OP whatever rocks yhur boat. They both drive smooth and maintenance for both shouldn't be a problem.

Chief, the Toyota Avensis was designed for Europe. As against the Camry for N. America. Besides the 'more sophisticated' Japanese Camrys are RHD except yhure talking about those Dubai ones and IMHO they are same as the American spec ones. BTW, American spec cars base model to base model usually have more kit and look better than their European/international spec counterparts so yhur watered down theory is doubtful. Its only of recent that international spec Toyotas are being as equipped as their N.American counterparts.

base Avensis offer fog lamps and 5 extra airbags than similar Camry American spec or not. ,The highest trim, which my relative had featured 8speaker infotainment system, factory fitted DVD on headrests that can be operated separately, rain sensitive wipers and parking sensors. What the xle Camry has that is lacking in the Avensis is a more powerful 3.0V6 engine and rear vents.

What insult? The car wasn't branded 'big for nothing' for the fun of it. It does not look good. Toyota got to their blandest point with that camry. Besides, except for the rear vents in the xle, a base avensis has arguably more features than an xle camry.

Been driven in both and I say that IMHO, the Avensis is a better option. More luxurious interior apperance, very quiet cabin, balanced ride. It had understated beauty beyond its blandness. The camry of same year on the other hand is roomier and has softer fabric. Haven't seen a cracked dash yet. Appearance wise, not so good to the eye, that's why the Honda Accord of same year outsold n continues to outsell it either toks or new. Except for the 3.0 v6, in the camry and the 2.4 in the avensis, they pretty much share the same engine in most trim.
