Please house, if you get request for passport, completely avoid using VFS, they will hold on to your passport even after the embassy has release it. Passport has been released to them for about 2 weeks now, they have refused to deliver to Abuja. After contacting them, they said it will take another 2 weeks to arrive. I want to believe they keep piling passports up in Accra and send after a long time after they have been paid for each application. This is such a wicked thing to do and they should be reported.

Just use other means please.!!!!!!

We are a family of 3. Two members have visited Canada before and don't need biometrics done again. I just got an email yesterday requesting to pay for biometrics for only one person who is yet to visit canada. Please note this is not a biometrics request letter but a letter asking me to pay. Please can you enlighten me on how you did yours. Thanks

Hello peps

I got ITA sometimes last year and I submitted the application early December. However sometimes in February I got an alert asking me to update FORM A so I did that and uploaded the document. Note, I was given 7 days to complete that.
I only uploaded the document but didnt know to complete the process, I had to resubmit the application. I discovered that after a week past the deadline.
Is there anything I can do, though I noticed few days latter the application was updated to Background check in progress. See image of application progress below.

1 month ago, we had our beautiful daughter in Toronto, Canada. We give all our thanks to God Almighty and to the wonderful people on this platform who shared and continue to share free information everyday. We followed most of your recommendations and everything went well.

VISA APPLICATION
We had our first baby in the US but decided to try Canada this time. I applied for a tourist visa while I was already pregnant because I actually planned to go as a tourist. My husband insisted that it was necessary to use the visa for the actual purpose for which we applied for it which was tourism.

Our application was online — we provided the usual documents and under 3 weeks, I was called to drop-off my passport.

For the purpose of tourism, I did go for 1 week in September 2018. Because I was pregnant, they thought I was coming for childbirth, I had to clarify that I had come for tourism only.

I went again in November 2018, this time, it was for the purpose of childbirth.

POINT OF ENTRY
As soon as I mentioned to the officer that I was coming for the purpose of childbirth, they asked me to move to another room. I queued briefly before being interviewed. The interviewer was mean, and unkind, despite my efforts to be as honest as possible.
When I told her I was coming for childbirth, she said:
“This is exactly what Donald Trump is trying to stop in America and when we have elections next year, our new government will also stop this”.
I showed her evidence of my payment for my accommodation and hospital.
Her main problem is that I applied as a tourist and did not disclose I was pregnant.
I replied that I had already come as a tourist in September.

She asked me about my ties to Nigeria and I mentioned that my husband and my employment are in Nigeria.

After about an hour’s wait, she asked me to come forward and said “i’m letting you in on the condition that you leave on the EXACT DATE on your return ticket and also on the condition that this is the first and last baby you have in Canada.” She stapled a slip into my passport.

ACCOMMODATION/TRANSPORTATION
My sister-in-law lives in Toronto and was happy to take me around. Unfortunately, her place was too small so when my mum came, we moved into an Airbnb. My experience with Airbnb is that it is expensive and while some hosts are good, many of them are not really honest. If you have good family/friends with enough room, please stay with them, its better.

I bought a SIM card from Chatr Mobile. You can see their data and voice plans here: https://www.chatrwireless.com/web/chatr.portal?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=PlanBrowse
It is advisable you get one when you arrive because you will need to make calls for appointments and probably call Uber etc. Their plans are very expensive, unlike Nigeria where we pay N1000 for 1GB; To get 1GB for 1 month, you have to pay about N10,000 but it comes with unlimited calls within Canada. Please click the link for further details.
Best to walk into a store because the website does not accept Non-Canadian cards.

DELIVERY
Thanks to this platform, we found Humber River Hospital in Toronto.
They charge CAD2680 for mummy + CAD825 for baby for 24 hours/1 night. This fee applies for both vaginal and C-section. Once you check in, you can check out in the night of the next day. I checked in January 10 around 11am and checked out January 11, around 8pm.

There is only wifi on the ground floor so having a SIM card and data on your phone comes in handy at this point

We paid cash a month before baby came. You can also pay with your card but we preferred cash. We also paid CAD800 for the anaesthesia because I had a c-section. He had originally charged CAD1200 but I negotiated with him. I also paid cash and he mailed me a receipt. His name is Dr. Quint, and he is very good. Unfortunately, you can’t choose your own anaesthesist; it just depends on who’s on call on that day.

Same for pediatrician, it also depends on who is on call that day. We had Dr. Sally Kenway, who I paid cash to (CAD100) on the day after baby was born.

Now for the Dr., we found Dr. Ted Kosalka via this platform and chose him for 2 reasons:
1. He did not ask for a referral like all the other Drs. He simply asked that we bring my medical history/antenatal history from Nigeria. Which I got from the hospital I was doing my antenatal
2. His price was affordable —CAD2000 for both C-Section and Vaginal. But this is without appointments. I paid CAD120 for my appointment and CAD60 for every other appointment. Kindly note that Dr. Ted does not accept card payments. He will ONLY accept cash. So take enough cash from Nigeria. He will also accept USD if you can get a reliable conversion rate to show him.
I went at 28 weeks but saw Dr. Ted for the first time at 31 weeks. He said a lot of Nigerians call him.

5 days after baby, we went to see a pediatrician for her first wellness check. His name is Dr. Joseph Porepa. We paid $100. We were informed that subsequent checks are not really necessary if baby is healthy and well, but its your prerogative. We will commence her vaccinations in Nigeria because she has to take BCG first.

BIRTH CERTIFICATE & PASSPORT APPLICATION
On the day we checked out from the hospital, they provided all the information we need for the birth certificate application. The best place to do it is online and then they ship it to you once its ready. One common mistake people make and we also made is to forget to register the birth. Once you apply for the birth certificate, the confirmation page will prompt you to register the birth immediately. Please do both. It didn’t take take long (about 2 weeks tops). You can also phone this number if you need help: +14163258305

It costs CAD25.

Passport Application: The fastest way to do this is in the nearest Passport Canada Office. It’s faster and they tell you if you made any mistakes. Simply print the form and fill it. This is the link to download the form:
https://www.canada.ca/content/dam/ircc/migration/ircc/english/passport/forms/pdf/pptc155.pdf

One important thing you will need is a guarantor — this person must have a Canadian passport. Click the link and see pages 3-8 (sections A-L) for ALL the information that you need including prices (CAD57 for child and additional CAD20 if you want to pick up at their office). Processing time is standard 10 business days — it is guaranteed if you do everything right.

If the father of the child is not present in Canada, do not sign his part of the form, inform them at the Passport Canada Office and they will need the father to go to the Canadian Embassy in Nigeria to give his consent.

Nigerian Passport & Visa on Arrival

We decided to do Visa on arrival this time instead of Nigerian Passport. We got someone in immigration headquarters to help with the approval for Visa on Arrival which cost 30k. its this approval you will take to the airport for the baby.

Summary of Fees Paid.
Mummy CAD2680 — cash or card (we used GTB Naira Card)
Baby CAD825 — cash or card (we used GTB Naira Card)
Anaethesist (for C-section or those who opt for epidural) CAD800-CAD1200 (depending on who is on call) — cash only
Pediatrician CAD100 (also depending on who is on call)

For more information please read this entire thread from the first day, because that’s what helped us. Thank you all so much and God bless you.

TravelRe: Giving Birth In Canada by rcspy: 7:00pm On Dec 08, 2018
clans:
I had my first in the US and had a valid visa. So when I took in a second time I was ready to travel but on the second thought I wanted to spend a while in the country and decided to renew before traveling lo and behold I was denied.
Fast forward to applying for a Canadian visa within a space of 2 months before it won't be safe to fly. We filled the form went to drop it off and ended up spending the whole day because of a lot of mistakes. To be clear we declared birth tourism, admitted to being rejected a visa for US and attached so many documents. Prayed and kept our fingers crossed while making arrangements that worst case baby would be born in Nigeria (after all I was born here).
To our greatest surprise 20 days later got the email for pick up and visa was approved.
The Search began.
At this point we didn't have any information and the thread was not as informative as I wanted (yes I like eating my cake easily ). However we had family in Saskatchewan but when I heard the flight time, weather, no doctor was responding to my emails or calls, rejecting international patients and the family had so much going on in their life, I decided to look elsewhere.
I visited a maternity service provider here and she sounded nice also showed me her package for Ontario which looked reasonable to me.the big huddle was getting my hubby to agree to which he had his skepticism. He did a lot of research called and emailed a lot of doctors in the Ontario area mind u unlike the US system where anyone can have access to gynecologists the case is different for the Canada system. You would need to get a referral from a family doctor after the first 3 months before a gynecologist would accept you. So we had that challenge however we were able to get 3 doctors to give a partial acceptance, send their bill via email but only one was willing to give an appointment date.
Looking for accommodation became the next problem most homeowners didn't want a pregnant foreign woman without ties in their home and Airbnb we couldn't get any child friendly at a reasonable price.
Fast forward to the night before our flight, I was able to get my husband partial consent to engage the service provider here. I paid her that night and got her agent's name and number.
THE JOURNEY BEGAN.
Left Nigeria had a 12 hour layover and got into Canada. Filled the landing card, used the automated machine and proceeded to the immigration officer. The conversation was as follows
Me:Good evening.
Officer:Good evening. Welcome to Canada. Can I have your passport.
She went through and was like what are you in Canada for.
Me: to give birth.
She paused looked at me and typed something in her computer.
Officer: looking at my landing card. She was like u have an excess of 10k canadia dollars in cash.
Me:no some cash,most in cards.
Officer: then you don't have an excess of 10k.
Me: Sorry.
Officer: Do you know that its very expensive giving birth here and do you have a doctor.
Me: yes and I came financially prepared based on my research. I also have 3 doctors shortlisted and willing to accept me once am in the country . I would settle based on final cost reduction.
Officer: types and handed over passport. Congratulations in advance (with a smile).
Went to a hotel cooled off, slept, showered and ate.
Moved into the accommodation arranged by the service provider (story for another day).Used a doctor in Toronto arranged by the service provider
COST BREAKDOWN.
Doctor :1320
Doctor visit: 30$ per visit(had a total of 5)
Hospital mother: 2620(per day)
Hospital baby:850(per day)
To be paid in full before delivery day.
Ended up having a CS so paid Doctor an extra 1250,anathestia 1000 ,spent 3 days in the hospital, pediatrician asked for 350(but ended up taking 100) Family doctor for referral (60).

BABY DOCUMENTS
Hmmmm Canada post was on strike so it was a mess. Took 15 plus days to get birth certificate and registration even with the expedited which cost 35$(excluding money spent to fax, call, email and Express mails).
Passport was expedited also with proof of travel and cost 110$. Called the airline added baby to ticket and applied for Visa on arrival (NB: cash,Nigerian cards not accepted only accept foreign cards)
thanks to hotstepper for the food and all the advise.
Please can u lets know when you had your baby and when u applied for the birth certificate. There are rumors birth citizenship was stopped for non-PR in August.
