The singer is a special guest artiste at a three-day outdoor crusade organized by The Redeemed Christian Church Of God (RCCG), Lagos Province 20.

Popular gospel singer, Tope Alabi is another guest artiste scheduled to perform at the three-day outdoor event.

Our source reveal that the invitation of the Fuji singer is a strategy to lead the souls of area boys and touts in the notorious neighbourhood to Christ.

Career / 10 Things You Need To Know About Pension In Nigeria by Realwvn(m): 7:16am On Aug 27, 2015
‎Your pension fund administrator (PFA) will take your questions and give you all the information you need to make the right choices as you prepare for life after work. Furthermore, here are 10 things you should know about your pensions before you retire.

1. What’s the due date and payment mode?

If you choose to be paid monthly, your PFA will pay your money to your bank account on or before  the 24th day of each month. You don’t have to worry about cheques or any long process. Receiving your pension will be completely convenient for you.

2. What happens in the event of death?

If one is on the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) and dies either in active service or after retirement, the next-of-kin as provided by the deceased to the PFA will be contacted to provide relevant documents for processing the contributions. The contributions will be paid to the named beneficiary in the WILL of the Letter of Administration.

3. Can you change your next of kin after you retire?

This can be done at anytime. The change of personal information form will ideally be found on the website of your PFA. Download the form, fill it and submit to your PFA for actioning.

4. How much can you take at once when you retire?

As lumpsum, a retiree is entitled to an amount not less than 25% and not more than 50%. This amount is however dependent on the fact that the retiree is able to collect a monthly pensions of not less than 50% of his/her last salary (computed based on the housing, basic and transport) for a estimated period of atleast 18 years.

5. How soon can you start getting your pension after you retire?

The process of documentation actually starts six months before you retire. For FG employees they have to go for the Bond verification exercise organised by PENCOM. This exercise basically is to enable PENCOM consolidate their account and ensure their accrued rights are paid immediately they retire. For Private sector employees, your PFA has to confirm that all contributions due to you have been made. This process is called ‘consolidation of account’. After this is done, the process of actual payment should take about 3 weeks.

6. Can you choose how you want to be paid?

The programmed withdrawal means you get to choose your payment interval by yourself. You can choose to be paid your pension monthly or quarterly depending on what you think works best for you. Your PFA will be crediting your bank account according to the plan you choose.

7. Can you take from your RSA before you retire?

Yes you can withdraw for your RSA before you retire if you are out of employment for four months and you’re unable to secure another employment. You will be given 25% of your RSA balance. After this 25% has been withdrawn for your RSA, the balance cannot be touched until retirement.

However, if you choose to make additional voluntary contributions (AVC) into your Retirement Savings Account (RSA) you are entitled to withdraw from your AVC any time before retirement (it is tax free if withdrawal is after 5 years). So if you’ve been putting some AVC in your retirement account or if you start now, you too can withdraw from that at any point before you retire.

8. What happens to your balance after you withdraw your lump sum?

When you retire and take an initial lump sum from your RSA, the rest of the money will either be used to procure an annuity for you, or it will be used to fund a programmed withdrawal that pays you for an estimated lifespan of not less than 18 years…in real terms…for life.
A programmed withdrawal is a method by which the employee collects his retirement benefits in periodic sums spread throughout the length of an estimated life span.
An annuity is an income purchased from an approved life insurance company which provides monthly or quarterly income to the retiree during his/her lifetime but only the first 10 years are guaranteed meaning if the retiree dies AFTER 10 years, his/her beneficiaries get NOTHING.

9. Other than when you retire, when can you have access to your RSA?

There are special cases. For instance, if you retire before you’re 50 years old because of a mental or physical disability, your PFA will give you immediate access to your RSA. You can also claim 25% of your pensions if you lose your job and can’t get a new one within four months.

10. Should you move your pensions to an
insurance company when you retire?

It is entirely your choice but you’re strongly advised to keep your pensions with your PFA. Your PFA manages your pensions while you work, they invest the pensions for you safely and they update you regularly about how your money is doing to help you prepare well for retirement. This proves that you can trust them to keep delivering even after you retire. Besides once you move from Programmed Withdrawals to Annuity, you CANNOT move back if you’re are not satisfied with the services they offer or the deal you got. So choose wisely and make n informed decision. Your future and that of your loved ones count on it

Crime / Cultists Shoot APC Chieftain's Only Son To Death by Realwvn(m): 7:40pm On Aug 24, 2015
A BLOODY clash between two rival cult groups at the University of Jos (UNIJOS) over the weekend has left a student dead. Sources claimed that the incident occurred at Gondola, near Angwan Rukuba in Jos North local council, as members of a group went to the room of a member of a rival cult simply identified as Nanfwan, a diploma student at the institution’s Centre for Continuing Education.

According to the eyewitness, the rival cult members shot him four times and he died instantly. They then went close to his body, shattered his head and body with knives.

It was also learnt that the father of the deceased was an All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial aspirant while the boy was an only son.

Residents of the area were shocked at such a bloody clash because according to them, “it was the first time something like this was happening here. The hostel had been very peaceful and lively.”

Sources also hinted that the body was immediately taken to the morgue of Bingham University Teaching Hospital (BUTH), Jos, from where the deceased’s relations removed it for burial on Saturday.

Police Public Relations Officer, Plateau State Police Command, Abuh Emmanuel, confirmed the incident, promising more details later.

On August 4, a combined team of the Special Task Force (STF), the police and the Directorate of State Security (DSS) in Plateau had carried out an operation at UNIJOS, Federal College of Forestry and on people on the streets of some areas known to be notorious for criminal activities and arrested 16 students believed to be cult members.

The institution’s President of the National Association of Political Science Students (NAPSS), Ogene Jude Ogbodo, had earlier said that 16 of their male students were whisked away for no just cause.

Contacted, the STF Spokesman, Capt. Ikedichi Iweha, said that last week, three students were killed in the night by people believed to be cult members, and one other killed along the institution’s Bauchi Road campus.

According to Iweha, all the arrested student suspects were currently being investigated, while those not directly involved would be released and those found culpable handed prosecuted.

Family / 9 Tips For Keeping The Spark Alive In Your Marriage by Realwvn(m): 1:44pm On Aug 21, 2015
Thinking about when you were dating should bring a smile to your face. You were young (at least younger than you are now). You had fewer pressures in your life and you could focus more time on the one you loved. If there were other important things going on, they only seemed to get in the way of your dating relationship.

Now, a few (or several) years later, it seems that everything is turned around. You have more pressures with work, hobbies, social activities and less time to spend with your spouse. Your marriage seems like it gets in the way of everything else you have to, or want to do.

So today, Naijanewsrave will be giving 7 tips you can really use to ignite the spark in your marriage again

1. Ignite a flame in your relationship again.
If a flame seems a little too ambitious to you, start with just a spark. After implementing these tips I hope you remember what attracted you to one another back those many years ago.

2. Respect

When you first got married did you ever think that you would treat your spouse as poorly as you treat your own brothers or sisters—those people you were forced to live with and knew every fault they had? Yet here you are a few years down the road and find that you treat your own siblings with more respect than you have for your spouse.

Your siblings come to visit and you offer to get them something to drink. You hold in your bodily noises when they are around. You call just to chat. What about your relationship with your spouse? Do you still show them the respect you did when you were dating? If not, get back to those days when you valued your spouse more than your own family.

3. Dress nicely when you go out. Let other people know it is an honor for you to be with the one you love. Speak kindly. Listen to one another again.

4. Spontaneity

Do things just for fun. Be random. Play. You don’t always have to act your age. When was the last time you invited your spouse to the back seat of your car to kiss in the mall parking lot? As a complete surprise you can arrange with your friends to take the kids for a night and you sweep your spouse off to a hotel across town.

5. Communication

That word communicate is a fancy word for talk. Remember when you used to do that without having to raise your voice? Pay attention to your spouse. Intentionally put your book down when they are speaking. Listen to what they have to say.

Compliment one another. Find something nice to say to your spouse. Then find nice things to say about them to other people. This honors them and communicates to others your affection for the one you love.

6. Public Display of Affection

It is perfectly acceptable to hold hands in most cultures. But have you held hands lately? When my wife and I were dating we were in an environment that did not allow dating couples to hold hands. How thrilling it was each time we did get a chance to sneak in a little squeeze. Sometimes we recreate that feeling by acting like it is taboo as we hold hands underneath our Bible during church.

Why do we think it is cute for teenagers to act like a married couple out in public, but somehow think it is disgusting for a married couple to act like teenagers? There should certainly be limits to what is done in public as a sign of respect to other people, but maybe a little bit of public affection would do your marriage good.

7. Dating Again

Plan some time alone with your spouse. A date doesn’t need to be expensive, but it does need to be intentional. If you just go out to eat at the same place you go every Thursday evening, that wouldn’t necessarily be a date. But if you would ramp up your wardrobe, show obvious respect to your spouse and throw in a little PDA (public display of affection) you could be surprised as to how exciting the local fast food joint can be once again.

8. Gift Giving

Gifts don’t have to be elaborate. It could even be as simple as a random card with a nice note about how you are thinking about them. My wife was cleaning out some files yesterday when she found some cards that we had given each other years ago. Though these gifts didn’t have monetary value, they still brought a smile to our faces as she told about some of the things we wrote to one another. A gift can be something simple, but it should be well thought out and given with purpose.

9. Studying One Another

I was around an older couple recently and witnessed a hilarious conversation. The wife said something about her husband liking a certain food. He said to me that he really didn’t like it, but he tolerated it for her sake because he thought she liked it so much. She was shocked and was genuinely surprised by this revelation. She hated the food but only made it because she thought he liked it.

What things are you doing because you think your spouse likes it, but you never took the time to find out the truth? Of course you can’t know until you ask them and start studying them like you did when you first met. In fact, it can be a fun game to go to an event and pretend you don’t know one another. Ask each other questions like you are meeting for the first time. You might be surprised that what you thought was true, or what may have been true 20 years ago, isn’t the case any more.

I hope these 9 tips for keeping the spark alive in your marriage will inspire you to spend some quality time with the one you love this week and for many years to come.

Crime / 27-year Old Hangs Self Over N18,000 Debt by Realwvn(m): 8:01am On Aug 19, 2015
There was confusion at Oke Initea area of Osogbo, Osun State, on Tuesday, following the discovery of the remains of a 27-years-old man, Adekola Busari, who had hung himself. It was gathered that Busari, was indebted to a micro finance bank, but his wife had assisted in repaying the loan, remaining just N18,000 to balance up. Although things were said to be down for the man, but it was not certain if the debt was the reason he had killed himself.

The deceased’s wife, Bidemi, was said to have discovered the corpse of her husband dangling inside their sitting room when she went to urinate early in the morning.

Amidst wailing, the widow said her husband did not show any sign that he would kill himself. She said,

“My husband went out to watch a football match last night and stayed till 11pm and when he came back home, he ate, we chatted, prayed together and he went to bed without any sign. Though he is financially indebted, I have been paying the debt for the loan he took from a micro finance bank. So I don’t understand why he hung himself.

“I woke up to urinate and discovered that the  cloth I used to cover our two year-old child was missing, only to find out that it was the cloth my husband used to hang himself.”

The Divisional Officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, in Olorunda Local Government Area, Mr. Babatunde Ojeniyi, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on the telephone.

He said, ” We have informed the Water and Environmental  Department at the Local Government Area, whose responsibility it is to remove the corpse. But we were told that certain traditional rites would have to be performed before the body would be lowered.”

Romance / How To End A Relationship The Right Way by Realwvn(m): 7:55am On Aug 17, 2015
I have been in certain relationships where I have to stay not because I can’t leave, but because I am actually scared of letting them down. Truth be told, it might sound like a betrayal or come off as being greedy and not showing concern for the other person’s feeling but really, when you let someone go you are doing both parties are a very big favour and total escape of a sad ending

“I’m sorry; I don’t think this is working! It’s not you, it’s me; I’m just not ready to be in a relationship at the moment!”

The response was explosive! “But you told me you loved me,” he screamed, “…that we had a future together!”

I wasn’t so much eavesdropping as being involuntarily catapulted into the centre of someone else’s relationship Armageddon. For one thing, I couldn’t believe she’d chosen a (very) public café to break the news. And as someone with an interest in communication, I wasn’t overly impressed by the way she was doing it, either. Then the needless “for your own good, I’m telling you straight” (and kicking you when you’re down) insults started!

“It’s just that you can be so spineless!” Now he just looked crestfallen. “I need a proper man— I mean, I don’t mean that, but…well, in some ways you’re not that bright, not in the way I am.” (I couldn’t believe what I was hearing! Not a proper man, lacking in the brains department, anything else? Ah, here we go!) “And (stage whisper for her café audience) sex has never been that great….”

I won’t go on, not like her. After mumbling something about “still being friends” – in the way, perhaps, John F. Kennedy may have been “friends” with Lee Harvey Oswald had he survived – she burst into tears and fled the café.
His eyes fleetingly locked with mine as awareness of where he was flooded back. I resisted the urge to offer a meaningless platitude such as “you’ll be better off…” and instead pretended to be captivated by the drinks menu.
Okay, maybe she had to end their relationship, but I think it could have been handled a little better. Maybe I’m being harsh; breaking up with someone is difficult and we all say things we don’t mean sometimes (now maybe I’m being too generous). Anyway, if you’re thinking of ending it with someone, then read on.

Ending a Relationship – Cruel to Be Kind?
To end a relationship is a big decision, worsened by that heart-sinking feeling of knowing you have to tell them. The actual thought of breaking the news to your soon-to-be-ex can make you feel anxious, even terrified. Sometimes it seems easier to continue with what isn’t working than to ‘upset the applecart’. But if the relationship isn’t right for you, then, ultimately, it’s not right for them either, and the longer an unfulfilling relationship continues, the less chance we have of finding better, happier relationships.
I don’t think the café assassin meant to be cruel. I think she panicked and it all went wrong. At least her partner heard it from her first. Instant messaging, texts, and those newfangled telephones make keeping secrets harder than in previous centuries. So tell no one (or a very few trusted people) before you break the news. Hearing it on the grapevine from a third party is pretty gruesome.

It may seem impossible to end the relationship and keep your partner’s dignity intact, but it isn’t. First, here are some practical do’s and don’ts. Then we’ll talk about how to handle your emotions during the break-up.

How to End a Relationship in Style

Ending a relationship is never going to be pain-free, but here are some very practical ways to lessen the pain:

Step 1: Tell your partner you need to talk to them. Don’t let them think that you are planning a nice intimate afternoon, only for them to be hit by a bombshell. (“Fancy going to the café?”!) Do this as close to the actual date and time as possible. It’s unfair to leave them stewing for longer than necessary.

Always end the relationship in person. Phone calls, texts, emails, or getting other people to tell them are unkind and cowardly ways of breaking up, unless you fear violence from your partner.

Step 2: Make sure you will not be disturbed by interruptions by arranging to break the news in private. If they do become emotional, it can be embarrassing to have any strangers around, even if it’s in a quiet park. (I for one don’t want to hear someone else breaking up again.)

Choose a neutral place rather than somewhere you share; perhaps a friend’s apartment when they are out. Avoid breaking up with them in a place that has past romantic associations for the two of you.

Step 3: Avoid ending the relationship during a row or when highly emotional. This just sends the signal that it was said “in the heat of the moment” and perhaps you didn’t mean it.
By ending the relationship calmly and clearly, you convey you’re serious, that it’s definitely over.

Step 4: Don’t be swayed by their emotional response. If they become upset it may be tempting to try to comfort them or even tell them that you didn’t mean it just to stop them from hurting. Don’t send mixed messages. This will make it more painful in the long-term.

Step 5: Avoid blaming your partner or criticizing them. Talk about the relationship as if it is an object outside of you both. “It has stopped working” is better than “you have stopped bothering with me” or “you never say anything nice!” Keep language as non-emotional as possible. Keep the word “you” out of it as much as possible. Express regret that things didn’t work out. And remember, if things are wrong for you, then they too could actually have a better relationship if released from this one.

Step 6: Avoid clichés. No one wants to hear: “It’s not you, it’s me!” or “You’re really nice, but…” or “We can still be friends” (you may be, but now is not the time to discuss that). Nor does anyone want platitudes like: “You’re bound to meet someone really special who is more right for you than I am…” Just stick to the facts of the matter.

Step 7: Now the above steps are all good and well, but if you are so overwhelmed with anxiety when actually ending the relationship that sensible advice flies out the window, then something else needs to happen. You need to prepare your emotions, to be calm and clear. Being too emotional “swamps” the thinking brain, making it harder to talk and think clearly.
If you were going to do a play, you wouldn’t expect not to rehearse! Likewise, the more you rehearse in your mind, whilst very relaxed, telling your partner it’s over, the easier it’s going to be to find yourself naturally feeling calm when you actually do it.

Find yourself a quiet space, perhaps in the bath or some other place you naturally relax. Close your eyes. Focus on your breathing slowing down. And when you are nice and relaxed…just begin to imagine watching yourself from the outside looking composed and poised as you calmly tell your partner that it’s over. The more strongly you do this, the more you’ll prime your mind and emotions to feel the right way about doing the right thing.

The Ajegunle area of Lagos was filled with burning outrage as one military officer stabbed a commercial bus driver in the forehead.
The incident, which happened on Wednesday, occurred when the military, man who was riding a motorcycle, attempted to manoeuvre in between two buses a a hoodlum pulled the motorcycle from behind.

An eyewitness, identified as Kolawale, stated that the moment the rider screamed bloody civilian and got off the motorcycle, the hoodlum escaped from the scene.

Kolawale stated that the army officer instead of going after the fleeing hoodlum, barricaded the road with the machine and descended on the commercial bus driver.

The eyewitness further noted that the army officer ordered the driver out of the bus before flogging him with his horse whip, an incident which lasted for over 10 minutes.

Nairaland / General / #historyclass: What You Didn't Know About The “burma Boys” by Realwvn(m): 12:24pm On Aug 15, 2015
Today, August 15, is celebrated as VJ Day in the UK, the day Japan surrendered and ended World War II. Today’s #HistoryClass is about a largely ignored group of warriors in that war, who fought in Asia. The Burma Boys. Many thanks to Olly Owen of Oxford University for prompting today’s #HistoryClass which references the work of Barnaby Phillips, Jon Latimer and Shojiro Ida.

There are two parts of today’s #HistoryClass, a summary of the Burma campaign, and a biography of a Nigerian soldier, Isaac Fadoyebo, who was involved. Burma became a part of the British Empire in the 19th Century as a part of British India, but was excised in 1935. By that time, the Burmese wanted the Brits out, so when Japan attacked in January 1942, they didn’t have a shortage of Burmese insurgents, led by Aung San to help them. On 16 January 1942 a Japanese battalion occupied Victoria Point, at the southern tip of Burma, giving them their first airfield inside the country. Tavoy fell on 19 January, isolating the garrison of Mergui, which had to be withdrawn by sea. This gave the Japanese control of three airfields, and allowed them to launch the first air raids on Rangoon. On 8 March, as the last British train left Rangoon, the Japanese marched into the undefended city from the west.

During the rest of March both sides prepared for the inevitable Japanese attack north into the heart of Burma. Serious fighting resumed in late March and on 26 April the British began the retreat to the Indian border. Between December of 1942 and May 1943, the Brits, deployed troops from India, Burma, Gambia, the Gold Coast, Kenya, Nigeria, Rhodesia, Nyasaland and Uganda, with help from China and the US. Their tentative attacks in this period were known as the Arakan Campaign. During the Arakan Campaign, the Allied High Command was overhauled, the new leader was the charismatic Louis Mountbatten, a relative of the King, who’s influence obtained much needed air support for what now became the 14th Army. The Japanese, aware that the Brits had gained strength, tried to end the campaign in early 1944 with an assault into Assam, aimed at capturing the key towns of Imphal, capital of the state of Manipur, and Kohima. Another Japanese attack was made simultaneously in the Arakan.

For the first time the since 1942, the British stood firm.

Early in 1945, 14th Army continued to advance, no longer in the jungle but in the open plains of upper Burma. Mandalay was recaptured in March, and the British crossed the Irrawaddy before heading south. In the Arakan, the Japanese were forced out of strong positions before Rangoon was retaken on 3 May. However much British face was lost in the Far East as a result of the defeats at the hands of the Japanese,

African and Indian troops had lived in the mud with their British comrades, and had realised that they were all human, so the stirrings of independence continued even after the was was over. Aung San, who sided with the Japanese earlier, switched sides when it was clear that they were losing. Despite his assassination, possibly aided by the Brits in 1947, Burma gained independence in 1948. He was the father of Aung San Suu Kyi. In a future #HistoryClass we’ll talk about independence from British rule in South-East Asia, an event which was replicated in Africa a decade later, and to which soldiers of the 14th Army contributed great moral strength to.

In Britain itself, the 14th Army became known as The Forgotten Army because of the humiliation earlier by the Japanese. 100,000 African soldiers fought for Britain in Burma.

Isaac Fadoyebo joined the Royal West African Frontier Force in 1942 at age 16. In 1943 he was deployed to India, then ordered to in February 1944, join the fighting in the Kaladan Valley in Burma. He was the victim of a Japanese ambush a month later. As his comrades were cut down around him, a bullet struck Fadoyebo’s right leg, shattering the femur, while another round penetrated his side. Soaked in blood, he lay helpless and in agony. Surrounded by corpses, Fadoyebo passed out. When he recovered consciousness, Japanese soldiers with fixed bayonets were standing nearby. A British officer, Capt Richard Brown, was murdered for trying to treat Fadoyebo’s wounds.

Surprisingly, the Japanese did not finish off the Nigerian, probably because they believed he was about to die anyway. Yet Fadoyebo clung to life, encouraged when it became clear that there was another survivor, an injured soldier from Sierra
Leone called David Kargbo.

Then, out of the rainforest, some Burmese villagers, Rohingya Muslims who supported the British against the Japanese, came to their aid. They treated Fadoyebo’s wounds and brought food and water. Later, the two Africans were concealed in a rudimentary jungle shelter. For nine months, Fadoyebo lay in squalor and agony. His leg was so mangled that the white femur was exposed and maggots ate his wounds. One villager, Shuyiman, took pity on the two African soldiers and hid the fugitives in his own home alongside his family. Had the Japanese discovered this, Shuyiman would have been executed together with his wife and children. Japanese patrols passed through the village of Mairong, but the Africans were never found. In December 1944, British soldiers liberated the area and discovered Fadoyebo and Kargbo. They had survived for nine months behind enemy lines.

Fadoyebo wrote his autobiography, but in SAP Nigeria of the 1980s, it wasn’t published. Eventually, it was published by the BBC in 1989. He died in 2012. Fadoyebo, like our first military Head of State, Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi, fought for Britain in World War II. May we never forget them.

I prefer you people should not judge, the woman in question is smarter than half of you guys, but she has decided to come to God and worship Him in any form. she doesn't your opinion on what you feel is right. Most of you need deliverance. This is not the first time a miracle would be performed in this manner.

Read your bible. There is a way that seems right unto man but really it is the way of foolishness and foolishness leads to destruction.

2 Kings 4:34-35
"and he went up and lay on the child, and put his mouth on his mouth, his eyes on his eyes, and his hands on his hands; and he stretched himself out on the child; and the flesh of the child became warm. He returned and walked back and forth in the house, and again went up and stretched himself out on him; then the child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes."
Career / How To Answer The Common Job Interview Questions by Realwvn(m): 5:20pm On Aug 06, 2015
“Where do you see yourself in five years?” “What is your greatest weakness?” “Are you a team player?” If you’ve ever applied to a job, chances are you’ve heard these job interview questions at least once, which makes sense being as how they are some of the most common questions asked at interviews.

But knowing the most common job interview questions won’t do you much good if you still don’t know how to answer them properly. That’s why before you go to an interview, you should always prepare for any job interview question you are likely to be asked. While you’ll never be able to predict every question someone might ask you, knowing how to answer the most common inquiries is certainly a good start and just might make the difference between you getting a second interview, even a job, and staying unemployed

Travel / 10 Most Annoying People You’ll Encounter On Flights by Realwvn(m): 6:17pm On Jul 29, 2015
Think about every flight you have ever been on. There are a few types of people you see, no matter what type of flight you take, how long it is, or where you are going, regardless of what airline you are flying on, and to where. The next time you fly, take a look around; you will see the following types of people. And if one is missing? Well, be careful… it might just be you.

The One with the Deathly Cold

Airplanes are germ factories, and even if you aren’t germ phobic, it can get a little overwhelming. There is always at least one person on a flight who is constantly coughing, sniffling, or clearing their throat. Sure, they may not be carrying the plague, but you don’t know that. Even if they aren’t really sick, the sounds themselves get really irritating after a while.

Solution: Although you cannot stop the people from coughing or sniffling, you can keep yourself from becoming one of them by washing your hands frequently or using hand sanitizer.

The One Who Obviously Didn’t Shower

Have you ever walked onto a plane and simply wanted to walk off again because of the smell? Generally this is not due to a malfunction of the plane itself. In fact, it usually is because someone simply didn’t take a shower, wear deodorant, or otherwise has bad B.O. Sure, you can feel bad for the person, but you certainly don’t want to sit next to them.

Solution: This is a hard situation to deal with, because short of Febreezing somebody, you may think that you have nothing that you can do. Come prepared with a car air freshener and place it in between the seat near them and this should neutralize the smell.

The Screaming Kids

Cheap flights tend to attract families. This isn’t a bad thing, and not all kids on flights are bad, but you will find screaming children on nearly every flight who just ruin the whole experience for everyone. There are well-behaved kids too, but they are completely overshadowed by the ones bawling or screaming obscenities. When you experience these children, sometimes you don’t know whether to feel worse for the parents, or your eardrums.

Solution: In my opinion, headphones were made for this specific reason. The screaming of a child is something that people who do not have children shouldn’t be subjected to, so sound-cancelling headphones will save the day!

The One Who Won’t Shut Up

Talking during a flight can be cool. It’s great to meet new people, and you can learn awesome, interesting things, but sometimes, you simply want to be left alone. Unfortunately, this person doesn’t understand the concept of personal time. They won’t shut up, even when you give normal social cues that you don’t want to talk, or in some cases when you outright tell them that you aren’t in the mood for conversation, these talkers won’t stop jabbering.

Solution: Headphones will be a weapon for some of these people, and this is a great repellent to the chatty Cathy next to you who won’t stop. The pretence of falling asleep can work as well, and I have often put my head down on the food tray whether I was asleep or not when dealing with an offender of this sort.

The Complete Recliner

Airplane seats recline, we get that, and it’s great and all, but there is very little room for negotiation in today’s planes. When you recline your seat—even a tiny bit—you are taking space from the person behind you. Though it’s fine to recline a little, it can be really irritating to the person behind you if you recline all the way and then leave your seat like that for the entire flight. Sure, it’s your right to do so, but remember that it’s their right to bring their screaming kids, talk your ear off, and sniffle through the whole flight.

Solution: Nobody wants to be the person who asks the one in front of them to move their chair back up. In many cases the person will be polite and move it up, but in other cases the person will say it is their right to do this. Note that it is also your right to call the flight attendant over and ask to change seats because this person won’t raise their chair. This may seem rash but as a man who’s 6’4″, this seems like the best solution over hours of extreme discomfort.

The One Who Doesn’t Think the Rules Apply

This flyer you can spot a mile away. This is the one who doesn’t feel that any of the flight rules apply to them. During security, they try to get
through with things they know they shouldn’t have, and when boarding the plane, they ignore seating zones, and try to get on immediately. Every single time they are told to do something, they try to challenge it.

Solution: This person tends to be confrontational in nature and will challenge anyone who thinks they should follow the rules like everyone else. Don’t let this person bother you; they make other people’s lives more difficult, and flight security will surely dissect their bag and take comfort in the fact they have to repack everything.

The Bin Hogs

Checking luggage is getting expensive. We get it, but come on, people. There are restrictions to the amount of space your carry-on can take up, so don’t try to hog the overhead bin space with your bags, your personal items, your jacket, your sweater, your laptop that for some reason you pulled out of your carry-on… it’s just not nice to the rest of us. That space is as precious to every other traveler as it is to you.

Solution: Do not touch this person’s things, but rather let a flight attendant know what they’ve done. The flight attendants are magicians in the way that they can fit so much in the overhead bins that it amazes me. If you think you’ve seen it all, trust that the crew has seen more and can solve any problem.

The Seat Stealer

Whether simply oblivious or obstinately ignorant, there is always someone who is sitting in the wrong seat. When they are confronted, this passenger always gives one of two answers: Either they take offense that you would accuse them of something so horrible, or they are shocked and appalled at themselves for making such a silly mistake. Both are annoying, but at least in one of the two cases you are not being blamed for their mistake.

Solution: This is an easy fix—if you run into the person who becomes confrontational, just contact a member of the crew. If you run into somebody who made a mistake, just ask them to move; they’re already embarrassed, so do not bring attention to the situation. Don’t be rude to either of these people, as traveling karma will come around and one of your flights will be delayed for an inordinate amount of time.

The One Who is Too Good for This

Flight Attendants deal with a lot of crap from passengers. They have to deal with all of the same annoying things the rest of us do, plus a lot of things that we may not see as an average flyer, and they get to do it several times a week. Just because this is their job, and they chose it, does not make them a target for harassment. One of the most annoying and worst flyers around is the one who is rude to the flight attendants.

Solution: You cannot change the rude flyer but you can control your behavior. Make sure you are polite so the flight attendant can give the best care to the rest of the passengers without being annoyed.

The One Who Has No Respect for Your Ears

As laptops, tablets, and even movies on cell phones become more popular, more people are bringing their favorite television shows and movies with them on airplanes. However, too many people forget their headphones at home, or simply don’t care about the fact that you may not want to listen to what they have on. In addition to movies, music and audio books have all been used to perpetrate this offender’s crime.
There are a lot of irritating people on any flight: flying is convenient, but it is also stressful and frustrating. To curb your irritation, and that of
others, be as respectful of the other passengers as possible.

Solution: On my last flight I encountered someone like this, and did what any sane person would do and bought them the five-dollar headphones that are available on the flight because I didn’t want to be subjected to their TV show.

Career / Penop Intensifies Moves To Accommodate Over 70 Million Uncovered Workers by Realwvn(m): 2:08pm On Jul 29, 2015
Determined to accommodate the over 70 million workers that are presently outside the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS), the Pension Fund Operators Association of Nigeria (PenOp) amongst other strategies has commenced  training operators for the enrollment of  workers from the informal, private and public sectors.

A statement by the Executive Secretary PenOp, Ms Susan Oranye, noted that executive of the National Pension Commission (PenCom), who were at the events, trained the operators on key procedures such as, basic calculation of fund pricing, differences between Programmed Withdrawals and Annuity, death benefit requirements and new initiatives in the sector.

She said the training which held in Lagos; Abuja and PortHarcourt, provided opportunities for the workers to share knowledge and initiate measures to tackle challenges affecting their operations.

She maintained that the training and other measures adopted by the association are geared toward making adequate provisions for workers that are presently covered in the scheme and those that will be integrated through recent initiatives taken by PenCom and the association.

"We are aware that there are approximately 176 million in this country and about 70 million people in the workforce and currently we have about 6.4 million in the contributory pension scheme.

"The Pension Fund Operators Association of Nigeria (PenOp) recently concluded its customers service training that held in PortHarcourt, Abuja and Lagos and was attended by key staff of all the operators in these three regions.

"It was extremely exciting and interactive. The focus of the training was to build the capacity, knowledge base and confidence of the staff, especially those who are at the front line in the organisation  they work for.

"The pension industry has seen changes, especially in the Pension Reform Act 2014, which came with changes in procedures, required documentation and different issues.

"We felt that it was important that all the representatives, staff who have face to face contacts with customers and the general public on a daily bases are brought up to date regarding all the changes, processes, and documentations required. We do not want any of them to offer sub-standard customers service, hence the need for the training."

She said the training was designed to prepare the operators on how to offer excellent services to their clients.

"The pension industry is still growing and we know that now is the time to inculcate into the system the need for operators to treat their clients well, keep them informed and ensure that all their enquiries and needs are met. That was the the essence of the training.

"To make the training more  in-depth, for the first year ever, the National Pension Commission (PenCom) was invited to attend the trainings in the three locations. PenCom was there to training the attendees on how to provide excellent customers service in retirement benefits administration. This is because, that is the high point of the pension system - what people get when they retire," she said.

Oranye stressed that the knowledge obtained from key procedures such as basic calculation of fund pricing, differences between Programmed Withdrawals and Annuity, death benefit requirements and more, will impact the industry positively, adding that there was robust question and answer sections, where challenges were raised and discussed in a spirited environment.

Oranye said the attendees were pleased with benefits they derived from the training, stressing that the effort goes to show that PenOp is not resting on its oars.

She said PenOp recognizes the fact that there is a lot of grounds to cover, and so, it is preparing her people for times such as the opening of the doors of the the informal sector.

She maintained that prior to when the gates would be opened, the operators want to be ensure that they are prepared, knowledgeable to meet whatever enquiry and provide the services that are required.

Career / How Safe Is It To Have A Pension Plan In Nigeria? by Realwvn(m): 11:54am On Jul 29, 2015
Millions of Nigerians are heading toward defectively funded retirement, leaving a lot of them cynical about pension plans in the country and how the pension system works because they don’t want to lose their many years of labour to shylocks. Without sufficient income, mostly older adults who eventually rely on pension will lack the resources that enable them to live self-reliantly, access basic health care, and continue to play their roles in the society.

Plenty of workers unquestionably have doubts about these things and that’s obviously why only a fraction of the workforce has a pension plan. While pension plans has kept majority of older adults from sinking into destitution, far too many retirees are having trouble making ends meet.

Before our discussion takes centre stage in planning a successful retirement, we need to comprehend why our retirement is primarily of utmost concern in the first place. This may seem like an inconsequential question, but you might be surprised to learn that the key mechanisms of retirement planning run contrary to common belief about the best way to save for the future. Furthermore, proper enactment of those key mechanisms is essential in ensuring a financially secure retirement. This involves looking at each possible source of retirement income.

Quick Understanding about Pension Plan

A pension is designed to help you fund your retirement and replace the income you are no longer receiving from working. It can fit alongside all your other savings, from bank and building society accounts to property.
Pensions could be one important way to support your retirement. Another may be your home (some people talk about their property as their pension) and another could be all your other savings and investments such as deposit accounts and shares. Your retirement income may come from any combination of these.

But is there really anything to worry about? Is it safe to commit your money to a pension firm and expect to get it back? There’s certainly a lot that people need to know about how pensions work and how safe it is for them to have a pension plan.

First off, we need to be up front about the prospects of the National Pension Commission (PenCom) set up by the government to oversee all pension firms in the country. Their job is to make sure your money is secure with the pension firm you choose and that your business with the firm keeps moving smoothly. So if anything happens, the commission is empowered to step in and sort it out for you so you never get to lose a single naira.

Besides, people who think their pension firm will divert their pension need to know that pension firms don’t spend the money or use it for private purposes. By saving your pension or maintaining a pension plan, through your custodian, you’re able to put your money in a range of investments, such as the stock market, commercial property, bonds, and funds. The range of investments will depend on the scheme; you’ll even have some more money than what you’ve put in over the years.

When your employer deducts some of your salary as pension, they pay this money to a pension fund custodian. This custodian company then notifies the pension firm that you’re registered with. Then your pension firm updates your accounts with them and there are no stories. So even if your pension firm ever goes under (which is really improbable), your money is safe with the custodian.

Additionally, every pension firm is mandated by law to maintain a statutory reserve fund that they mustn’t take from at any time. It’s with this money they get to meet up if the PenCom steps in and asks them to pay up pensions that are due.

Even at that, there are people who think the government might take from their pension money. But of course the government doesn’t involve itself in the affairs of the pension firms and certainly won’t have access to your pension. The PenCom is the only government body that’s involved here and they only regulate and make sure your money is safe. They don’t take your money. They make sure nobody takes your money.

You can start taking from your retirement savings when you retire or when you’re 50 years old depending on your agreement with your employer. So normally a pension plan is basically like a savings account where you get to keep your money over time and then take from it later. But with your pension you normally can’t take from it until your retirement. This makes sure you don’t eat into your savings and jeopardise your own retirement.

But the good part of having a pension plan is that you could actually get up to a quarter of your pension right now if you ever lose your job and can’t get another one within four months. So you can get by with some of your money until you get back on your feet, and if you have to pay for healthcare or if your daughter’s university tuition is due while you’re between jobs for instance, your money will be readily available to you.

What’s also good is that your pension firm won’t just collect your savings and keep you in the dark. They’ll be in touch with you and send you regular updates about your account and how well the investments they making on it for you is doing. So at every point you’ll know how much you have in there to keep you assured that your money is safe. This is actually the way it works.

Even more disconcerting is the fact that the poverty rate among older adults in Nigeria is alarming, one of the highest among less developed countries. The major reason so many older Nigerians become poor when they retire is the lack of proper pension plan to complement our retirement.

Another reason is that, a lot of employers don’t get a pension plan for their employees and these employees don’t bother to seek out a good one because of their scepticism. But really it’s very important for Nigerians to think about the future and personally get a pension plan where they can put aside something for the future, so they can have something solid to fall back on when they retire.

Without your own savings to add to the mix, you’ll find it difficult, if not impossible, to enjoy much beyond the minimum standard of living when old age comes knocking. This situation can quickly become alarming if your health takes a turn for the worse.

Unforseen things happen all the time and without a backup it can be especially difficult coping with these circumstances when they happen. For instance, people have had their entire business wiped out by a fire
and have had to start from scratch at an old age.

Old age typically brings medical problems and increased healthcare expenses. Without your own nest egg, living out your golden years in comfort while also covering your medical expenses may turn out to be a burden too large to bear – especially if your health (or that of your loved ones) starts to deteriorate.

This is a completely avoidable situation, and it’s important for the Nigerian people to take the right step as they move onto the future.

Meanwhile, Akpabio emergence came as a surprised to many senators as the standing rules of the senate exempts first-term senators from holding principal position.

Crime / Photo: Police Arrest 12 Teenage Suspects Over Lesbianism In Lagos by Realwvn(m): 2:25pm On Jul 22, 2015
Pictured above are young girls who were arrested last week, in Oto-Owori area, Ijanikin, Lagos State, after a 16-year-old member of the famous Abogun family, made startling confessions about how she was initiated into cultism and lesbianism by the younger sister of her uncle’s wife. Parents of the victim who were shocked by the confession reportedly alerted the police after she was caught while attempting to sneak out of the house with some items demanded by her cult members.
According to the victim (names withheld), who completed her secondary education in June,
“it was Tope who introduced me into lesbianism and cultism early last year. On Friday, at about 7-8pm, I received a call from Tope that I should bring my red jacket, which is the cult uniform and a jack-knife for her.

While I was attempting to sneak out of the house to meet her, I was accosted by my brothers who checked the bag I was carrying and found the cult jacket and the jack-knife. They called on my parents who demanded to know how I got those items.

“Initially, she forced me into becoming her lesbian partner. She threatened me that if I failed to do it, my life was at stake. When I became her lover, we took a blood oath as Tope used a blade to cut my hand and licked the blood. She also cut her hand and asked me to lick the blood. She threatened that she must not see me with anyone, whether male or female but she was free to go out with others as she has other lovers. I have been her lover for over a year now and I became her lover before I completed my secondary education.
“After Tope introduced me to lesbianism, she forced me into their cult. The night I was initiated into Aiye cult, I was blindfolded. Members of the cult gave me a gun to take an oath, declaring that I would not reveal anything about the cult to anyone. They said if I ever revealed anything about the cult to anyone, the same gun that I used to take the oath would be used to take my life. Thereafter, about twenty of the males present at the initiation slept with me one after the other.

“Two months ago, I stole my father’s N50, 000 and gave to her. There was a time she gave me a gun to keep for her. I kept the gun in my book-shelf two days. She gave the gun to me because she said she couldn’t take it home. Later, she collected it and gave it to a member of the cult. I really don’t know what they use the weapon for. The red jacket which is the cult uniform was given to me by Segun. He is the leader of the Aiye cult. Since I became a member, I haven’t been able to go anywhere with them because of how difficult it is for me to leave home as my parents don’t allow me out after 6pm, and most of their activities are usually in the night. There was a time they asked me to trail my elder brother because they said he is arrogant.”
In her defence, 18-year-old Tope (surname withheld) who initially confessed that she gave the gun to Kemi to keep because she could not take it home, later denied the allegation that she is a cultist.

According to her, “I have known Kemi from my childhood. I am a salesgirl. I was arrested because the victim said I introduced her into cultism and lesbianism but I am not a cultist, and she didn’t give me money.
“I have not seen Kemi for more than a month now, since my birthday which I celebrated on June 21. Although they fired a gun at my birthday party, I don’t know who fired the gunshot but Samuel was with a gun that night, and I know that Samuel is a cultist and he attended my birthday party. It was a cult guy called Daddy that threatened that if I refuse to join their cult, he will deal with me and shoot me in the legs with a gun.”

Crime Alert gathered that young girls were recruited into the cult group as they are used as armourers who keep the ammunitions for them any time they go for operation. It was learned that based on the revelations, the Divisional Police Officer in-charge of Ijanikin Division of Lagos State, SP Robinson Eregare, swung into action and succeeded in clamping down on all the suspected cultists connected with the victim’s initiation. Among those arrested were Musa Kareem, Austine Ebosoje and ten others.

Confirming the incident, Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu said Temitope Famati, an 18-year-old lesbian, Ogunsan Kemi , another 20-year-old lesbian, Oseni Lukman, 30; Chidi Okafor, 25; Musa Kareem, 26; Austine Ebozoje, a 19- year-old pirate, Segun Sowumi, Olatokunbo Babatunde, 18; Gbelebu Samuel, 17 and Hussan Azeez, 30, were among the cultists arrested so far.

This is irrefutably and incontestably the most informative and educative, evocative and provocative post have seen in the history of Nairaland I mean in the affirmative it's intricating and interesting in it's diversity.Though I must acknowledge it's the right platform where folks will soon display the arrogance of their immeasurable stupidity and ignorance perhaps the magnificiency of their foolishness might as well be presented royally.

Nice one OP
