John 10:1-2 KJV
1Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold,

but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.

2But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.

1"I tell you the truth, the man who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber.
2The man who enters by the gate is the shepherd of his sheep. - John 10:1-2 NIV

The percentage of true Christians who live according to the bible is much much smaller than 35%. Religion is not a popularity contest. Having more followers does not make the religion any more valid.

How Inspector General Plotted My Assassination, By Ribadu
From Alifa Daniel (Asst. Political Editor, Abuja)

ALMOST a year after an alleged attempt on his life in Jos, former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, has pointed accusing fingers at a former Inspector General General of Police (IGP).
He also repeated an allegation that a former Governor of one of the Niger Delta States had offered him a bribe of $15 million, which, he says, he collected but kept at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to be used as evidence against the man.

Ribadu, who fled the country in the wake of the manhunt for him, to answer to corrupt practices while he headed the anti-corruption agency, was in the country last week and paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Lagos lawyer and rights activist, Chief Ganiyu Oyesola Fawehinmi.

He had earlier been demoted and subsequently dismissed from the Police Force on account of alleged disobedience to lawful order. He is in court challenging all the official actions against him.

In a statement he made to the London Metropolitan Police (Metpol), and which transcript has found its way into Abuja, Ribadu said that his travails with the Nigeria Police and government began after he began the process of prosecuting the said former governor.

The former police officer wrote: "Whilst I was studying in Jos, an attempt was made on my life. One evening at about 6-6.30pm, I was driving alone on the road from Jos to Abuja in my car, which was a bulletproof vehicle. I noticed a little Japanese made of car following me.

"I pulled into a filling station and then pulled out again and noticed the same car, which had four (4) occupants, including the driver.

"The car pulled alongside me, the rear passenger window came down and one of the occupants aimed a pistol (firearm) at me and fired three (3) shots at my car. Fortunately, I was not hit and sped off."

He said he knew it was an assassination attempt on his life and decided to go back to Jos town, where he stayed for two or three hours, before returning to Abuja.

He continued: "I did not tell the police in Jos, because I believed (and still do) that they were behind the attempt on my life and when I say Police I mean the Inspector,

"If I went to any government agency, they would come under pressure if they helped me, people would lose their jobs.

"So I kept quiet and only told those close to me. The car still has the bullet marks."

Ribadu also narrated how a top official of government in the Justice Department went to the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru to tell the authorities that the President had allegedly directed that he (Ribadu) should not be allowed to graduate and given his certificate.

Ribadu returned to Abuja after the course at NIPSS and recounted how another attempt was made on his life.

"I was followed,  from my house in Abuja and an effort was made to block my car, which I managed to avoid and get away," he said.

He disclosed to the London Police that after the second attempt on his life, he left the country for the United Kingdom in November 2008.

"I left because I would have been killed if I remained," he said.

According to him, the government allegedly began a rumour that he fled because he was wanted.

So, he returned in December and went to the EFCC headquarters, claiming that he did not see the EFCC boss, Mrs. Farida Waziri, on that visit but her aides said they had no question for him, but they would call him if she came.

"I remained in Abuja for about two (2) weeks to allow them time to contact me, but no one did. I left them (the EFCC) my telephone numbers, but remained in hiding whilst I was there. I returned to the United Kingdom in December 2009," he wrote.

Ribadu said he did not return to Nigeria since he left because he knew the charges brought against him were part of an effort to get him back to the country where a "further attempt would be made" on his life.

On the former governor who, he alleged, made financial overtures of $15 million to him, Ribadu said when he began investigating him, the man told him "that everybody was corrupt and that he was doing it because everybody else was doing it."

Ribadu admitted that he did not receive any direct pressure to stop the investigation of the former governor he described as "a likeable person," though they were neither friends nor enemies.

However, he said the former governor "was and remains a very powerful and influential figure in Nigeria, so much so that five (5) days after I had charged him in connection with our investigation, I was 'asked to go to school' and by that I mean I was taken off the case."

But aides of the former governor in Abuja pointed to a discrepancy in the story of how the alleged bribe of $15 million was given to Ribadu, stressing vaguely that the alleged bribery might not be true after all.

Though it was difficult to reach Ribadu over the veracity of the statement to the London Police, he alluded to it in a remark he made at the weekend to a newspaper in Lagos.

This was while denying allegations made by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Michael Aondoakaa (SAN) that Ribadu was working against the interests of Nigeria or President Umaru Yar'Adua.

But Ribadu remarked: "I have never done any affidavit either in the UK or in Nigeria against the country. I challenge him (Aondoakaa) to produce the affidavit he was talking about.

"The only time I made a statement was when the Metropolitan Police invited me during their investigation of cases against (the former governor) and his associates for crimes they committed in the UK and other parts of the world."

Islam for Muslims / Islamic Society Distributes Foodstuff by Recognise: 12:07pm On Sep 13, 2009
Islamic society distributes foodstuff in Kano , Jigawa, other states

IN a move to assist Muslims during the Ramadan, the World Islamic Call Society, with headquarters in Libya, has distributed over 20 tons of rice, flour and sugar in Kano to support poor and needy Muslim brothers who are observing the Ramadan fast.

The leader of the team, Dr Ismail Idris, a lecturer with Kano State College of Education, Kumbotso, while distributing the foodstuffs at the premises of the proposed Libyan Islamic University situated in Kano metropolis, said the organization planned to distribute additional consignment of the foodstuffs to other locations in Kano city.

He said that the society would also proceed to Jigawa state to hand over many tons of rice, flour and sugar for distribution to the people.

It was also stated that similar gesture had been extended to Borno, Kano and Osun states by the society.

According to Dr. Idris, the need to assist Muslim brothers who are observing Ramadan fast was necessitated by the current world economic meltdown.

He stated that Muslims, wherever they might be in the world, should be assisted with foodstuffs during the exalted month of Ramadan.

The support is being initiated in Nigeria by the Libyan government so that other wealthy people could do the same to the less-privileged in the society, he stated.

He further disclosed that in Kano metropolis, the next point for distribution of the commodities would be Emir’s palace road, so that the foodstuffs could be given wider reach.

Crime / Identity-theft Victim Catches Her 419 Thief by Recognise: 11:18am On Sep 13, 2009
Identity-Theft Victim Catches Her Thief

A Seattle customer service representative who was the victim of identity theft in January was able to help police break up a ring of ID thieves when a woman tried to open a credit card account using her stolen identity.

Michelle McCambridge, 23, was working at J.C. Penney when a woman asked to open a credit account in McCambridge's name with a fake ID, according to the Seattle Times .

McCambridge was shaken when she realized what was happening, but she composed herself enough to excuse herself and alert store security to the situation.

"I'm very proud of her," said Joseph Velling, a special agent for the Social Security Administration. "It was heroic."

Police couldn't arrest the woman right there, but they were able to get surveillance footage of her which directly led to her arrest along with several others who police say were responsible for victimizing at least 39 people.

"Out of how many customer-service desks, out of how many registers she could have gone to, and she had to come to me?" McCambridge said. "It was fate."

Last year, 8.4 million people in the United States had their identities stolen at a total cost of $49.3 billion.

On Friday, Albert Gonzalez, a former federal government informant and the alleged ringleader of one of the largest known identity theft cases in U.S. history, pleaded guilty to 19 counts of conspiracy computer fraud, wire fraud, access device fraud, and aggravated identity theft related to theft of credit and debit card data from TJX Companies (owner of T.J. Maxx), BJ's Wholesale Club, OfficeMax, Boston Market, Barnes & Noble, Sports Authority, among other retailers

Crime / Islamist Gangs Use Internet To Track, Torture And Kill Gays by Recognise: 9:15am On Sep 13, 2009
How Islamist gangs use internet to track, torture and kill Iraqi gays

The bodies of gays on the streets of Iraq.

Iraqi militias infiltrate internet gay chatrooms to hunt their quarry – and hundreds are feared to be victims

Sitting on the floor, wearing traditional Islamic clothes and holding an old notebook, Abu Hamizi, 22, spends at least six hours a day searching internet chatrooms linked to gay websites. He is not looking for new friends, but for victims.

"It is the easiest way to find those people who are destroying Islam and who want to dirty the reputation we took centuries to build up," he said.

When he finds them, Hamizi arranges for them to be attacked and sometimes killed.

Hamizi, a computer science graduate, is at the cutting edge of a new wave of violence against gay men in Iraq. Made up of hardline extremists, Hamizi's group and others like it are believed to be responsible for the deaths of more than 130 gay Iraqi men since the beginning of the year alone.

The deputy leader of the group, which is based in Baghdad, explained its campaign using a stream of homophobic invective. "Animals deserve more pity than the dirty people who practise such sexual depraved acts," he told the Observer. "We make sure they know why they are being held and give them the chance to ask God's forgiveness before they are killed."

The violence against Iraqi gays is a key test of the government's ability to protect vulnerable minority groups after the Americans have gone.

Dr Toby Dodge, of London University's Queen Mary College, believes that the violence may be a consequence of the success of the government of Nouri al-Maliki. "Militia groups whose raison d'être was security in their communities are seeing that function now fulfilled by the police. So their focus has shifted to the moral and cultural sphere, reverting to classic Islamist tactics of policing moral boundaries," Dodge said.

Homosexuality was not criminalised under Saddam Hussein – indeed Iraq in the 1960s and 1970s was known for its relatively liberated gay scene. Violence against gays started in the aftermath of the invasion in 2003. Since 2004, according to Ali Hali, chairman of the Iraqi LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) group, a London-based human-rights group, a total of 680 have died in Iraq, with at least 70 of those in the past five months. The group believes the figures may be higher, as most cases involving married men are not reported. Seven victims were women. According to Hali, Iraq has become "the worst place for homosexuals on Earth".

The killings are brutal, with victims ritually tortured. Azhar al-Saeed's son was one. "He didn't follow what Islamic doctrine tells but he was a good son," she said. "Three days after his kidnapping, I found a note on my door with blood spread over it and a message saying it was my son's purified blood and telling me where to find his body."

She went with police to find her son's remains. "We found his body with signs of torture, his anus filled with glue and without his genitals," she said. "I will carry this image with me until my dying day."

Police officers interviewed by the Observer said the killings were not aimed at gays but were isolated remnants of the sectarian violence that racked the country between 2005 and 2006. Hamizi's group, however, boasts that two people a day are chosen to be "investigated" in Baghdad. The group claims that local tribes are involved in homophobic attacks, choosing members to hunt down the victims. In some areas, a list of names is posted at restaurants and food shops.

The roommate of Haydar, 26, was kidnapped and killed three months ago in Baghdad. After Haydar contacted the last person his friend had been chatting with on the net, he found a letter on his front door alerting him "about the dangers of behaving against Islamic rules". Haydar plans to flee to Amman, the Jordanian capital. "I have… to run away before I suffer the same fate," he said.

According to Human Rights Watch, the Shia militia known as the Mahdi army may be among the militants implicated in the violence, particularly in the northern part of Baghdad known as Sadr City. There are reports that Mahdi army militias are harassing young men simply for wearing "western fashions".

A Ministry of Interior spokesperson, Abdul-Karim Khalaf, denied allegations of police collaboration. "The Iraqi police exists to protect all Iraqis, whatever their sexual persuasion," he said.

Hashim, another victim of violence by extremists, was attacked on Abu Nawas Street. Famous for its restaurants and bars, the street has become a symbol of the relative progress made in Baghdad. But it was where Hashim was set on by four men, had a finger cut off and was badly beaten. His assailants left a note warning that he had one month to marry and have "a traditional life" or die.

"Since that day I have not left my home. I'm too scared and don't have money to run away," Hashim said.
