@ fadajasi

apart from Robbie Keane , Damien Duff and one or two other players, who are the other good ballers that Ireland can boast of?

What is the football pedigree of the Republic of Ireland? How many FIFA Junior or Senior Competitions has the Rep of Ireland won?

I don't even know if the Irish have a female national soccer team grin

Lets call a spade a spade. We beat Ireland the last time we played them. Remember when Obafemi Martins singlehandedly destroyed the Irish opposition in a match played in Britain some years ago?

We need to play stronger teams so that we can discover our deficiencies. Cheers.

@YD

I believe NDM will succeed and I am happy to be part of the movement. I also wish Seun Osewa well. That is why I want Nairaland to increase in memebership. And it will.

I am a very resourceful young man and I am happy when I see my contemporaries doing great things.

I wish you well too.

Cheers.

I agree with you. It is a shame that the Eagles are playing the Irish Republic again.

Very soon, the NFF will line up friendlies with countries like Bahrain, Tuvalu, Comoros Islands and all their likes.

Na Wah O!!!

@ Big Chubby

You sound like an expatriate. Though I don't subscribe to hiring househelps, if you're going to treat the house boy or house girl you employ well, I won't have anything against you. Since you're single, I will advice you to go for a boy of around 18-20 years. Don't go for a girl. I know what could happen. You might be tempted to '' sample '' her.

The boy will be better as you could become friendly with him, and he will be able to assist you settle down in Nigeria quickly. Try and take care of the boy. Get him enrolled in school or to learn a trade somewhere. Keep him busy so that the Devil will not enlist him in his growing Army. Cheers.

We will keep playing all these low rated teams until we sort out the problems bedevilling Nigerian football. For example, why is it taking the NFF so long to appoint a new coach for the U-21 team? We all know Ladan Bosso is not a good coach. We all knew how he fumbled in Canada 2007. Yet, I am hearing hearing rumours that he might not be sacked after his recent bad performances.

Those at the Glass House do not know how to organize top soccer friendlies. Those that can make the Super Eagles play against teams like Argentina or Spain are not part of the current NFF. Guys like Kojo Williams, Segun Odegbami, Uche Okafor [ USA 94 hero. He's also very influential ] etc etc. Sincerely, playing against the Republic of Ireland is absolute bollocks !!! angry

The Republic of Ireland is known for sending Catholic priests all over the world than for playing football. Cheers.
FamilyRe: House Boy Or House Girl? by Redman44(m): 3:41pm On Feb 23, 2009
I don't believe i'm an hypocrite if I refuse to hire house helps. Though I grew up with them being around me, as soon as I clocked 9 years, I started doing things myself. I refused to let the house helps wash my clothes or do other things for me. Today, I'm better for it. The truth is some people today do not have a good work ethic because they depended on house helps to do things for them in their formative years.

The solution to the house help menace in Nigeria is for industrious individuals, to open up Agencies that will supply ' busy' couples and families with trained and vetted househelps who will not neccessarily live with their employers.  They will be paid weekly or monthly through these Agencies. House helps have caused a lot of damage to Nigerian families in the past. Some brought in Armed Robbers, some stole their employer's property, others came with spiritual problems etc etc

As for me, I believe couples should create the time to do their chores. And when the wife is pregnant, her sister or other family members can come and help out. Cheers.

@ Seun

I still don't understand why the NFF continues to recycle the teams we play. The same old teams- Jamaica, Rep of Ireland, Ghana, Squirrels Of Benin Republic etc etc. The Colombia match was the only exception. The Super Eagles need to play against formidable opponents like Spain, Germany, England, Argentina, Croatia or the Czech Republic. These quality squads will expose our team's deficiencies. Na wa for out soccer authorities o. There seems to be a lack of ideas at the Glass House. Only if the right people were there.
FamilyRe: House Boy Or House Girl? by Redman44(m): 1:45am On Feb 23, 2009
Mates, I don't believe in the House Girl and House Boy Phenomenon. To me , it is modern day slavery. I agree with Hauwa that those who make use of House boys and House Girls should be ashamed of themselves. I have seen how many of these kids were treated in the past in Nigeria. My parents employed housemaids when I was growing up in Lagos. Two of them turned out to be witches and they actually confessed when they were found out. Though my father didi not have any problem with this maids, my mother always had grudges and issues with them. She used harsh words on them and sometimes beat them up cry cry cry

Though some of the maids were lazy, a good number of them were hardworking. Yet my mum always said they were not working hard enough. Maybe it is the female 2 female thing sha, I can't say. My aunt in Ibadan also had a hardworking girl called Mary. The girl was generally good and up to the task, yet my Aunt had issues with her. There was one day that the Togolese girl went to buy some food stuff at the market. She was about 25 yrs then. She came back after an hour or two. My Aunt leapt on her and accused her of having lovers in town. I found my aunt's behaviour so strange. Anyway that's that.

Generally, house helps have not fared well in Nigeria. Couples should learn to do some of the chores themselves. Another idea could be the use of Housekeepers or Cleaners who would come and do the chores daily or weekly, but would not live with their employers. They would just get the job done and go away. House Boy or House Girl? I don't support any. Cheers.

TravelRe: Nigerians Abroad: What Advise Will You Give Anyone Relocating Abroad? by Redman44(m): 10:00pm On Feb 21, 2009
Hmnn, very interesting thread. Everyone has reasons for staying in Nigeria or moving abroad. No one should be criticised for travelling to the UK, USA, Canada or other countries in Europe. I have seen people that went to Western countries on Visit visas and today, they are citizens of those countries. I have also seen Nigerians with work permits in the UK who have achieved nothing after so many years here. There is a place for everybody under the sun.

Europe might be tough to live in but the hardworking and God fearing immigrants will always make it. Many Nigerians in Europe are very dubious in nature. Some of them do not wish their siblings well and bad belle is prominent in their dictionary. There was a young man who came to an European country on a visit visa. Since he was not permitted to work, he had to use his brother's documents to work. His brother was already a citizen of that country. What happened was that James did not wish his younger brother well. Peter happened to be very intelligent and hardworking. He had a talent for repairing electronic products. Peter got a job in a factory where he picked and packed gifts. The painful and shocking thing was that James was spending Peter's earnings, since his brother's wages was paid into his bank account. He would only give Peter some pittance out of his weekly wages. Peter was working like an elephant and eating like a ant.

Peter suffered for about 8 months until he decided to do something about his situation. He complained to an asian colleague at work who felt for him. The asian lady took him to a social worker who was shocked to hear his story. The social worker took up his case and contacted a lawyer who was good at fighting for Immigrants. The Lawyer did not care if Peter was an illegal immigrant. He handled the case Pro Bono. The social worker and the Lawyer took the case to court. Peter's brother was summoned to appear before the Magistrates in the court in the European country's capital. The jury was deeply moved by Peter's testimony. Do you know what happened? James was convicted of treating his brother badly and spending his money. Though the country's government knew Peter was working illegally with his brother's documents, they did not deport him. He was given refugee status, and when they discovered that he had outstanding technical abilities, they gave him permanent residence status. They got him accomodation and moved him to one of the country's technical institutes. He was paid to teach white youngsters there. James, the greedy and wicked brother, was jailed for 3 years.

What I want to say is this- God is in charge of your destiny no matter the country you live in. No matter your status in that country. Talented people will always dine with kings. I know of a Nigerian in London who does not have documents to work, but he's making money online as a writer. He is good at blogging. He has two online blogging jobs and he's able to pay for his room and send money home. Nigerians need to understand that that the white man appreciates hardwork and geniuses. I will not advice anyone not to leave Nigeria. Just know what you're doing and be focused anywhere you are. The favour of God is important than trying to do things by yourself. I will aslo advice Nigerians who want to return home to look for businesses they can engage in rather than applying for jobs in our motherland. All the years you've spent in Europe and America should have been used to study how they run their businesses here. Cheers.
SportsRe: Nigerians For Siasia Campaign by Redman44(m): 8:12pm On Feb 21, 2009
Look Guys, Samson Siasia is the man that should lead us to South Africa 2010. He is the only Nigerian coach with a website-

www.siaone.com

He is also the best Nigerian coach at the moment. He has taken the pains to get coaching certificates and constantly updates himself on the modern rudiments of the game. He is technically and tactically better than Amodu Shuaibu. Amodu did not play for the Super Eagles as a footballer. Samson Siasia was outstanding for the Flying Eagles and the Super Eagles. Siasia knows how to turn average players into world beaters. He knows how to get the best out of his players. His Holland 2005 Squad and his Beijing Olympics Squad Played like brave Gladiators. They gave their all and almost clinched the gold medal on two occasions.

Samson Siasia is the man for the job. Without Mikel Obi and Taiye Taiwo, he still got a silver medal in China. His boys did not lose to Argentina in the final match, they lost to that brilliant player called Lionel Messi. IF ONLY OGBUKE HAD PLAYED IN THAT FINAL MATCH!! The argentines were glad he did not play. Samson Siasia does not believe in using tired legs. He is like Clemens Westerhof who loves discovering new soccer talent. Siasia also knows how to use players positively. Look at how he used Victor Anichebe and Ajilore in Beijing. His popularity did not come cheap. He worked hard for it.

NFF, Please do the right thing by making Sisia the coach of the Super Eagles. Amodu is not bad, but he can't lead us to the World Cup. He is not techically sound for that yet. I wonder what would happen if Nigeria was to play Spain tomorrow. Our deficiencies will be exposed straight away. Lets do the right thing now and give Samson Sisaia the chance to do his thing again.
PoliticsRe: Nigerian Development Movement - Get Involved by Redman44(m): 7:13pm On Feb 21, 2009
Ok mates, I have just registered for consideration as a member of the Nigerian Development Movement [ NDM ].

I want to plead with Nairaland Moderators that this thread should be put on the first page of Nairaland. I have directed a lot of my family members and friends who are Nigerians to the NDM site and Nairaland. My prayer is that this movement will not die out. It is a solid idea that can change Nigeria for good. I have some suggestions for the organisers of the NDM-

1. NDM memebers should start meeting face2face. Online activities should lead to physical meetings as soon as possible.

2. NDM members in Nigeria should start doing individual low key campaigns by telling members of their family about the movement and its objectives. Those who can afford it can print flyers and leaflets and distribute in their churches and social clubs.

3. 2011 is around the corner. We need to start laying concrete plans for the elections in about two years time. The corrupt piliticians have started buying armoured vehicles and are currently arming their private armies for 2011. We need to start having serious meetings and campaigns as a soon as possible.

4. The NDM should not act like a secret organization. We need to have leaders who will talk to the Nigerian Media and willing to be interviewed in The Print Media and on Television.

5. I see this movement becoming very strong as the days go by. There will be attempts to hijack the NDM by undesirable characters who might be on the payroll of our oppressors. The organizers of this movement should be careful. They must remain true to their original ideals. They must also not be corrupt. Corruption and lack of set objectives could kill this vision which I believe was given by God.

6. A good logo should be created for this Movement. It should be a logo that is catchy and that has a deep meaning. Let the graphic designers among us come up with logo ideas.

7. Selfish motives need to be cast aside if we want to get anywhere. I am glad to be a member of this movement. and I don't want to see this dream die. Honourable members of the Press like Reuben Abati, Louis Odion, Nosa Igiebor, Yemi Adebisi etc etc should be contacted about the activities of the NDM. If someone like Reuben Abati writes about this movement in his CROSSROADS Column, a lot of publicity will be generated. We should also try and write about the NDM in our respective blogs and Websites. We can also write individual and collective articles to National Dailies and Magazines in Nigeria on different development topics but with NDM cited in the articles.

I will come up with more ideas as time goes on. Cheers.

Nigeria will become great again.

PoliticsRe: Tough Times: Nigerians Flee To Ghana by Redman44(m): 4:08am On Feb 21, 2009
The questions we should ask ourselves is this- why can't we get it right in Nigeria? Why has Nigeria not become an industrialized nation since she was granted independence by Britain in 1960? What is actually wrong with us as a country and as a people? When I hear news of Nigerians running to countries like Ghana and Vietnam, I feel like breaking down in tears. Nigeria should naturally be better than the countries mentioned. The problem with Nigeria is really that of bad and visionless leadership like some forum members have mentioned. However, it should be noted that corrupt leaders flourish when the country they govern cannot raise up good and honest candidiates to challenge them during elections.

Nigerians will continue to run to other countries, until we start to believe that we are capable of starting a movememnt that will throw up the right leaders we need. We are not simply doing enough to restructure our political process. If Adams Oshiomhole can fight for his stolen mandate in Edo State and recover it, there is hope for good and credible leadership in Nigeria. However, we need to work hard to enthrone the right leaders that will take us to the promised land. President Barack Obama has shown us the way by proving that change can come from unexpected places. As a Nigerian, I want you to ask yourself if you've done much to support honest leaders in your small sphere of influence. How many good leaders are you supporting in your community?

I have observed that hardly is any form of intelligence displayed during Nigeria's recent elections. We seem to leave everything to the 3 main parties- PDP, ANPP and AC. I am waiting for and working towards a time when a small party like the Justice Party or Labour Party will win like 10 local Government seats in staes like Lagos, Ogun, Kaduna, Abia etc etc. Don't laugh at me, please. It might take time but it can be done. We can all turn things around in Nigeria. Obama utilized Facebook and Twitter [ Two amazing social networking sites ] to sign up about two million supporters. What are we doing with the internet political wise in Nigeria? With many youths embracing the internet in Nigeria, the world wide web can change the face of politics in Nigeria. How many of our local government candidiates actually address voters neighbourhood by neighbourhood? How many of them walk into our churches, Mosques, community centres, open playing fields etc etc to talk to people in the area they want to govern.

Our graduates need to start vying for councillorship and Local Government Chairman seats. That is where the real change will begin. Let us get the illiterates out of those offices first. I'm not a politician but I will gladly support any candididate who wants to carry out his campaign innovatively. The grren pastures we are looking for in other countries can be created in our country. We need to bake our own cake and pastries and stop going after what other people have worked hard to prepare. The electioneering process in Nigeria is bereft of creativity. We need innovation in the way elections are conducted in Nigeria. I don't believe money can hinder a honest person's way to power in Nigeria. If we can all agree to give 20 Naira each to a serious candidate, it will take him or her somewhere. However, I still believe the change will start from the Local Government level.

I'm happy to be a new Nairalander. Thank you, Seun. May the good lord continue to bless your efforts to make something out of life. Cheers.
