Chei, I can't believe that ladies will stoop so low to demand for popcorn all under the guise of selling their bodies. The end is indeed nigh. |
@Noah Okay, I will name names now. I want to expose some organizations in Nigeria that have been horrible to me when it comes to customer care. 1. WEMA Bank, Akure, Ondo State; I had a horrible time with the counter staff at the bank, especially one woman who I was always unfortunate to come across everytime I visited that Wema Branch. She always looked at me scornfully anytime I wanted to withdraw money I was a corper then and sometimes I withdrew as little as 500 Naira at a time. She always made me feel that I had little savings with the bank. My account with the bank should be dead by now. I lost their withdrawal booklet eons ago.2. NIPOST, General Post Office, Oshodi: Ha, this Post Office should be given an award for bad customer service. It is all about the Benjamins here o. If you don't dole out some money, nothing will be done for you by most of the staff at this Post Office. All kinds of letters that does not belong to me are stuffed into my box. The sorting room at the Post Office is nothing to write home about. It is a very dirty place and the staff there are rude. The Place was decrepit the last time I visited there. I don't know if the place has been renovated. The workers there behave as if they are doing you a favour. To buy stamps is even a problem. Some thing should be done about that Post Office. I'm considering moving to the Ikeja Post Office in the near future. 3. Guardian Newspapers Ltd [ secretary to one of the Editors ]: Very wicked woman. I don't know if she's still with the company. Way back in 2005, I was at The Guardian to do some research concerning my Final Year Project [ Long Essay ] at the University of Ibadan. I had been using the Newspaper's Library for sometime until that fateful day. Due to the nature of my research work, I had to clarify some information with the paper's executives. I was able to get through to the administrative department who told me to purchase a book about the company and its owner, Alex Ibru. As I was going back to the library after purchasing the book, I saw a door that had the notice- Reuben Abati. I quickly decided to see if I could get some information from the great writer. That was where my troubles began. His secretary said he was not around and when I asked her if I could drop a note for him, she replied by asking what I was doing in the premises anyway. Suddenly, she picked the phone up and called the security at the main gate- '' Security, there is this young man in a blue shirt and black trousers and shoes. I don't know what he wants. Please come and get him''. I felt bad at her behaviour and quickly left the company that day. The guards did not even come for me. Guess they were used to her arrogance and wickedness. May God help Nigeria. I'm in a better place now. However, I will be coming back to Naija to save our children from becoming monsters when they grow up. Cheers. |
Creativity at its best. I love the video. This is what I have been saying. Nigerians need to start asserting themselves worldwide. We have all what it takes to stop the negative vibes being circulated about our country. Cheers. |
well, I predicted a goalless draw this morning. I am not happy about the display of the Eagles. I've got my life to live anyway. Cheers. |
@Sauron Stop supporting Amodu. You know that he and his boys did not perform well today. He has started meeting tough teams and his deficiencies are now showing. Hmn, things are looking odious. This game is a bad omen. |
@Seun Amodu should have put together his winning team by now. There is no time to waste. I will not accept any of the excuses he is going to give to the Nigerian sports media. He was given enough time to assemble a good squad for the qualifiers. The Eagles have spoilt my day. This is not the time for us to drop points. If they had played well and still drew the game, I would not be angry. However, they did not impress us. So Tunisia is leading the group now. We will have to play catch up to the Carthage Eagles. It is this same Tunisia that stopped us from qualifying for some important tournaments in the past. The eagles have started badly o |
@presido1 Stop that joke, mate. I'm all worked up in my apartment now. It is now that we will really know how good Amodu is. The Kenyans even scored a goal against the stronger Tunisians yesterday. @ tocdee why did you say I am lucky? I really want to see some minutes of the match. ![]() |
@ i laugh the match is not being shown on the television. I was told by my mates that I could watch the game on the internet. Oh, God. I need to see at least 15 mins of the game. I want to really assess the Super Eagles team. From what guys are saying on this thread, the Eagles are really not playing well. Though away games are really tough, I feel that Amodu lacks the technical depth. Our misadventure in 2006 started in this manner. God help Nigeria. |
I can't still watch the match on the internet. www.livefoot.freehostia.com/nigeria.html/ is still not showing anything. Anyway, I wish Amodu and his boys the best. Cheers. |
Nigeria is really going to have it tough at this stage of the SA 2010 qualifiers. I'm sure the Mozambiqans are being inspired by Togo's victory over Cameroun yesterday. Tunisia's coaching crew will be smiling now and plotting Nigeria's downfall. The Carthage Eagles will be our toughest opponents in the group. We need to win this match at all costs. I'm not a prophet of doom, but I stopped supporting Amodu Shuaibu 2 months ago. All these small African countries have started asserting themselves o. We need to be very careful. Lets see how this match will end. |
I can't even see the game on Justin tv. It is not showing on my computer screen. Where else can I watch the game online? From comments on Nairaland, I can see that the eagles are playing badly. |
@ too soon Don't get it twisted. I support the Super Eagles but I don't support the lack of foresight on the part of Amodu Shuaibu and the NFF. What should be uppermost in the mind of the NFF is the task of building a national team that will do the country proud in SA 2010. I want to see some home based players featuring in the starting line up of the Eagles. Clemens Westerhof started using players like Sunday Oliseh [ whom he spotted in the Nigerian league ], George Finidi [ also from the local league ], Edema Fuludu, Moses Kpakor, Isaac Semitoje, Friday Elaho etc for prosecuting his World Cup and African Nations Cup qualifying campaigns in the 90's. Oliseh and Finidi went to Europe under Westehof's guidance. This was before the World Cup in the United States in 1994. We need a coach who can sniff out soccer talent from unexpected places. Take it or leave it, that coach is Samson Siasia. His time as Eagles coach is coming. Meanwhile, I wish Amodu well. Lets see what happens against the guys from Mozambique today. Cheers. |
I agree with the poster that Customer Service in Nigerian businesses is nothing to write home about. It is very disheartening that in a country of 99.9 % black people, we still don't know how to treat each other with respect. Many Nigerians have a negative approach to life. Just look at the example of our eateries. I once went with my friends to a popular fast food joint in Ikeja [ GRA ] and I was not happy with the way the attendants treated us. They were behaving as if we were a problem to them. They were not enthusiastic about the work they were doing. I don't know why one of them was even angry in the first place. Is it too much for us to ask for the reheating of one of the plates of Fried rice we ordered? Na wa o. Are we not going to pay our hard earned money for the eatery's services? Nigerians must realize that no job is too small for them to do. They must not think that any job is beneath them. One of the reasons why workers treat customers badly is because they feel they are bigger than their jobs. They have not realized that life is in stages. Some of the richest men in the world today did odd jobs that can not be mentioned on this forum. However, I would like to state here that bad customer service should not be limited to Nigeria alone. The shit happens in Europe too. Though in Europe, especially Western Europe, you have the right to complain and the right to be compensated. Nigerians must start to take their service providers up if they are not happy with how they are treated. Enough is Enough. This our passiveness with those that we give our money to must stop. It is also time for us to start gauging the performance of our leaders openly. The current economic recession has shown that nothing is secure in this world. Nigeria needs to develop and change must come upon our land. The time to act is now. |
I won't be surprised if the match ends in a goalless draw. We are not inviting the right players to the Super Eagles squad. I don't see Mozambique beating Nigeria but I feel the current Eagles squad has a lot of defects. Amodu Shuaibu is also not technically up to the task. He has not done some things I thought he would do as soon as he was made coach of the national team. Tunisia has stated well and I feel the descendants of Hannibal will give us a deadly run for the ticket to SA 2010. Something needs to be done urgently by nthe NFF and well meaning Nigerians before the bubble bursts. I wish Nigeria well. It would be very bad for Nigerian soccer if we miss the next world cup. |
@ Poster I will advice you to go through the NYSC program in Nigeria. I hope you'll be eligible to participate in the scheme. Having lived in Canada, I know it will be tough for you to consider living in a country where only a few people think positively. Canada is by far advanced than Nigeria but I think it is worthwhile serving in your original country. I am someone that believes the NYSC scheme needs a detailed surgical operation. I have written an open letter to President Yar'Adua about the problems of the NYSC and how they can be resolved. The letter was published in two Nigerian newspapers. Some changes have been made to the scheme since then. Don't be afraid of the service year. If you're someone with a good business sense, this might be the opportunity for you look at a service you can provide for Nigerians. Open your eyes well and do some research in and about the place you serve. The painful thing is that most corpers go through the service year without really discovering the opportunities that lie around the state they served in. Then they come rushing back to Lagos after the service year to look for jobs. May the good lord give current and fresh corpers wisdom. I know of a young man who served in Benue State. During his service year, he met a Tiv woman who was breeding Turkeys. This woman had developed a strong Turkey Hybrid by mating Local turkeys with a foreign breed. The offspring of this experiment was so good for the table and she made good money every week. The corper learnt the tricks of raising turkeys from the woman and after the service year, he started his Turkey farm on a small plot of land. The rest of the story is history. The guy is rich today. Another guy who had a writing talent started a community newspaper in Yobe or is it Adamawa State. Today, the paper has grown and he sells thousands of copies weekly. He is now living in the northern state and has refused to come to Lagos. He is married now and the people of the state [ though they are moslems ] enjoy the stories in the newspaper. What I am saying is this: A gifted person will always be a winner anywhere he is in the world. So my friend, make the best use of your talents while serving. Come and serve if you're eligible. Your pot of gold might be awaiting you in Nigeria. Cheers. |
@ PapaBrowne Thanks for the encouragement. I believe Nigeria will become a country to reckon with if we all join hands together to make the country great. I got a phonecall from Nigeria this money from a childhood friend. My friend was born in Britain and he's british with a British Passport. However, he spent his childhood years in Nigeria. He's currently in Nigeria due to his mother's death but I want to let you into this secret. My friend is considering settling down in Nigeria. He told me Lagos State has changed and that Governor Fashola is doing a good job. My friend is seeing a lot of good business opportunities around him. I believe my friend concerning his positive comments about Lagos State. He told me he has been going all about Lagos to see things for himself. I told him about the current electricity story about Ilorin and how Kwara State Residents are enjoying about 16-20 hours of Light everyday. The change Nigeria needs has started. People are coming up with a lot of ideas now. Nigerians are returning home in trickles for now, but soon, the trickles will turn to avanlanches. We are the ones that will build a New Nigeria. No one will do it for us. The elections in 2011 will throw up more progressive minded candidates who want to change things. The PDP will eventually be dethroned as Nigeria's leading party because smaller parties will start winning Local Government and councillorship positions. Let us forget about OBJ and start doing something about the development of Nigeria. I want to openly thank Seun Osewa for creating Nairaland and Nairalist. He is one of the heroes of the efforts made to develop Nigeria. Thanks a lot, Seun. God bless you. |
This is a very interesting thread. Obasanjo was not a good president. Though he did some good things while in power, he was an absolute dictator just like the late Gen Sani Abacha. Nigeria did not change much under Olusegun Obasanjo. While Uncle Sege was in Power, a lot of corruption was going on in the country's various states. Electricity was epileptic and the Universities were in a poor shape. I don't want to bore you with the pisitives and negatives of his tenure as Nigeria's president. To me, OBJ did not do well. However, I believe OBJ is a product of the Nigerian way of doing things. He is a product of our environment where hardwork and excellence are not appreciated. If we want Nigeria to change, then we need to start celebrating hardworking people openly. We need to do away with our cuture of envy and jealousy directed at those who are better than us. I am still surprised that one of our young girls who made it to NASA in the USA for a SPACE simulation program was not celebrated in the country's Media. This girl who schooled in a local secondary school in Benue State represented Africa at the event, and was not on the cover page of any of our newspapers on magazines. Meanwhile, magazines like TELL, The News, Newswatch etc were busy putting corrupt personalities and scandalous incidents on their front pages. This reflects the state of the Nigerian Media. I also think Nigerians need to start creating support organizations and charities to tackle poverty, joblessness and illiteracy. Change must start with we Nigerians ourselves. It is not enough for us to keep blaming our leaders while we sit back and do nothing. How many of us actually care about the behaviour of teenagers in our places of worship or in our respective communities? And what are we doing about it? How many of us have bothered to know how the primary schools and secondary schools we attended way back are faring? Have we even bothered to donate some gallons of paint to make sure the schools or classrooms are repainted? Yet some of us complain about the dilapidated condition of our former schools. We need to realize that we are all leaders in our different spheres of influence. And one day we will all be accountable before God. One thing I know is that Nigeria can change if we start being concerned about our immediate environment and start doing small things to bring about the much needed development. We should not wait for the government to do everything. In Britain, charities are working hand in hand with the government to battle poverty, cancer, illiteracy, Wife battering, homelessness etc etc. Many Nigerians are arm chair critics. Let us get involved in the development of our country. I have started doing something to help Nigeria develop. Start something too. The Nigerian Government is even waiting for ideas from us all. I wish Nigeria well. Cheers. |
I am not happy about the robberies in Ibadan. This is a city I am planning to settle down in. I have always wanted to live in Ibadan because of my business plans. I wanted to avoid the chaotic nature of Lagos and get cheaper housing in the ancient city. With this recent turn of events, I have started considering new options. I might just choose Ilorin or Akure. I believe Lagos is not the only place to operate from as an entrepreneur. Cheers. |
Hmn, Kwara State is really baring its teeth o. I am impressed by the Youtube videos on the projects in Kwara State. I have only been to the state once and I spent about 4 days there. It is a generally peaceful state. Like I said before, change is coming to Nigeria. We need more Governors like Bukola Saraki and Fashola of Lagos State. However, the Governors need to work on the railways and also seek to make a direct impact on the citizens. I mean they should look into the creation of jobs by building industries where the natural resources of their states can be processed into finished products e.g turning millet into a packed cereal drink or making soap for export. It is clear that people need jobs in Nigeria. So some effort should be put into job creation. Cheers. |
wow, I don't know what to say. There is so much positive news coming out of Nigeria these days. So Kwara State is making a u-turn from the negativity that has characterised my country? This is good news. The destiny of Nigeria lies in our hands. We are the ones that will turn this country around. No one will help us do it o For those of us in the diaspora, it is time for us to start thinking of how to invest in Nigeria. The change we need in Nigeria has gradually started. God is alive. Our prayers are being answered one by one. As soon as we get rid of this Yar'Adua, the development will hasten up. We need parties like the Labour and Justice party to make their brand stronger. They should start winning councillorship and Local Government Chairman posts from the next elections. Governor Saraki, God Bless you. Nigeria will achieve her manifest destiny. |
Good news again from my man, Governor Fashola. Many Nigerians in the diaspora are waiting for Lagos State to have electricity supply 24-7. I can't wait for Fashola to get this power project rolling. I've got a lot of plans for youths in Nigeria. This is really good news. My father and Governor Fashola were close back in the days. Nigeria needs to solve the electricity problem and fix the moribund railways. Then development will come to Nigeria. Cheers. |
I wish Seun and Nairaland well. I'm also happy about his new community site- www.nairalist.com Seun Osewa is really making me think that good things can come out of Nigeria. This is a young man that is based in Ota, Ogun State, and he's doing pretty well for himself. With the way he is going, we will start seeing him in Newspapers and Magazines. I have this deep belief that if creative Nigerians who are abroad can return home [ not minding the absence of basic infrastructure ], they can really contribute to Nigeria's development. Seun, well done and you're a hero. Nairaland is just like Gumtree.com in London. I must confess that Tosyn Bucknor is attractive and intelligent, Black is beautiful. Cheers. |
This is good news. Finally, the inept Ladan Bosso has been shown the door. Why did it take the NFA so long to relieve Bosso of his duties? Too much politicking is going on at the Glass House. I believe Siasia will do well as coach of the Flying Eagles to Egypt 2009. However, he has a difficult mission in his hands. The battle in Egypt will be fierce and he needs passionate players to get the job done. As soon as he gets announced as the u-20 coach officially, he needs to get down to work. Siasia has to perform a deep surgery on the squad. Some of the players need to be dropped and replaced with guys that are hungry for success. This is the time for Siasia to finally win the u-20 World Cup for Nigeria. We are tired of Silver medals. I know Siasia will motivate the boys and drum into their heads, the need to play well and score goals. There is not much time left for him. Gladiator like teams like Argentina, Brazil, Portugal and Spain will be coming to Egypt with skillful and experienced players, some of whom are playing for top clubs in Europe. Samson Siasia has a lot of work to do o. He needs to get down to business as soon as possible. Some dynamic players have to be brought into the team. He also needs to pray hard because Nigerians might not forgive him if he fails in Egypt. Ha, uneasy lies the head that wears the crown. Cheers |
I love using Skin Milk body lotion. It makes my skin glow. I also love Cocoa Butter. It is a classic cream. I grew up using vaseline though. |
Ojo What? Please lets talk about other things and current issues affecting Nigeria. I would never vote for Ojo Madueke. I am already beginning to have an headache on coming across this thread. God help us. |
@ fadajasi I believe Nigeria has a higher pedigree than the Republic of Ireland when it comes to football. Ireland may have been playing football a long time before Nigeria started, but the Irish have not achieved much. Nigeria produces a lot of good players yearly. I would even prefer it if Samson Siasia's Olympic team to Beijing play the Irish National team. I know Siasia's boys will defeat Ireland. Nigeria has players like Osaze Odemwingie, Chinedu Ogbuke, Obinna Nsofor, Victor Anichebe, Yusuf Ayila, etc. The bitter truth is that if Siasia gets to handle Late Coach Tella's boys [u-20 ] , they will change their mentalty and become solid players who play with a passion. It is clear that Siasia is the future coach of the Super Eagles. Nigeria needs to start playing countries like Croatia, Czech Republic, Russia, Paraguay, Poland etc. That is if we can't play the top teams like Brazil, Spain, Argentina, Holland, Italy, France, Portugal etc etc. Let us do things with seriousness. Over to the Glass House. I rest my case. |
Na wa o. The battle of intelligence between Talksmith and Debosky is too much. I am enjoying this thread o. I believe some foreign investors who are on Nairaland [ They are registered Nairaland Members who have plans for Nigeria ] are also following the thread. One smart American Fat Cat in New York might be following this thread on his sony vaio laptop. What Seun has started, let no man put asunder. As for me, I don't care whether the Federal Government removes the subsidy on petrol or not. All I want to see is that Nigeria starts developing quickly. Nigeria needs to develop in a jiffy. If the removal of the subsidy will hasten the growth of the economy, so be it. If this current action will make more Nigerians poorer, then I won't support it. Nigeria is lagging behind and I don't like it. Anyway, I hope Yar'Adua will pump the money saved into massive education for the many illiterates that dot the landscape of the country. Illiteracy is a big impediment to Nigeria's economic growth. Cheers. |
Hey, oath taking is a serious issue. It is not physical and there are severe penalties for breaking oaths. Don't take oaths, please. Many lives have been ruined due to people taking oaths in Relationships. If the love a man and a woman have for each other is true and strong, they don't need to take oaths. True love stands the test of time and trials cannot overcome genuine love. The problem with relationships today is that love has been watered down due to materialism. If you truly love a person, you will not put him or her in chains. You will want him or her to be free. If the person leaves you for another man or woman, that person is not meant for you. Let the person go. If you force the person to stay with oaths, you will regret your decision later on. Though we get hurt and jilted in relationships, we always get the person that is meant for us if we learn from our past mistakes. Cheers. |
I still don't believe in hiring househelps. The Governments of the Republic of Benin and Togo are against the trafficking of their young ones to Nigeria and other West African Countries for domestic work. They have intensified their border patrols and are stopping and searching vehicles systematically. Once a vehicle is suspected of shipping youngsters to Nigeria, the vehicle is stopped, searched and the kids are sent back to their parents. The driver of the bus or truck is arrested and detained for questioning. It would be better if agencies are set up and matured people are trained as cleaners and domestic workers. They can then be hired out to Nigerian homes and companies who need their services. This is another opportunity to create some form of employment for thousands of uneducated Nigerians. I believe the young ones should be allowed to go to school. Cheers |
