I am just praying that God will raise up a young leader who will challenge the likes of Akala and bring sanity to Oyo State. Oyo State needs a Governor with a progressive mindset. Anytime I visit Ibadan, I'm reminded that I'm driving through a city with so much potentials. Ibadan could give Lagos a run for its money if the potentials of the city are harnessed. It is just saddening that short sighted politicians continue running the city to the ground. There are other parts of Oyo State that needs to be developed. Lord, raise another Fashola up for Oyo State cool cool cool

FoodRe: Have You Ever "stolen" From The Cooking Pot? by Redman44(m): 5:57pm On Jul 16, 2010
I am not innocent when it comes to some crazy things I did when I was young. Yeah, I stole from the Cooking pot several times. I was fond of Egusi and Vegetable soups. I was never caught and there was a day someone else was whipped for a raid I carried out on a freshly cooked Pot of Ogbono soup. I still feel guilty today for that incident. However, one of my relatives that stayed with us for sometime was really artful in stealing food from our big kitchen sad sad sad The boy operated like a spirit and was very fast. He would deny all accusations in a sorrowful manner and you will be tempted to forgive him. Ha, I can't forget those days cool cool cool

This news is very disheartening embarassed embarassed I feel for potential undergraduates these days. And to think that I graduated in 2005 from the university system in 2005 makes me cry. The Nigerian educational system has worsened since then. If we had right thinking leaders, technical education would have become a vocation youths will want to embrace. Why can't the technical colleges be refurbished, local and foreign technical experts brought in, with youths being encouraged to learn life long skills that can put food on their tables and take care of their families cry cry? The Nigerian Government should lay an emphasis on Technical education and practical skills like the Germans. God help us.

I just admire Jimoh Ibrahim. He is a man that is not afraid to take up challenges. I like his entrepreneurial spirit and his never say die attitude. I will be monitoring Air Nigeria and I might start using the Airline for travelling purposes. Let us support our businessmen. Nigeria needs to have a respected National carrier. Cheers.

Haha tongue tongue, this is the beginning of the end for the guys at the Glass House. I don't even believe in the acting NFF President, Maigara, or what is his name sef. The Glass House needs a thorough sanctification and deep cleaning. We need fresh and innovative administrators that will administer our footie sincerely. I have a feeling that Goodluck Jonathan wants to install a dedicated Nigerian as the new NFF President, and he is trying to clear the way for the guy. Lets hope for the best.

NYSCRe: The Minimum Wage Of N17, 000 Is Nonsense by Redman44(m): 6:50pm On Jul 13, 2010
The proposed 17,000 Naira minimum wage is too small for comfort though I must also commend the Federal Government for looking into the minimum wage issue. I don't think the Private sector will want to embrace this new wage for low level workers. Can fresh entrepreneurs and businessmen pay 17,000 Naira to cleaners, gatemen et al lipsrsealed lipsrsealed? That is why I'm not happy about the lack of accurate data and statistics in Nigeria. It would have been better if the Federal Government had carried out a thorough research to know how much Nigerians are paid in different sectors of the economy even to the Gateman or Cleaner. The data that is gathered will help the Government fix the new National Minimum wage. For those Comparing the minimum wage of Nigeria with that of the USA, it should be noted that the living standards of both countries vary. In Britain, people earning the minimum wage [ I think it is around £5.88 per hour now ] are able to survive on it and pay bills because they can buy food and basic essentials in stores like 99p shops or Aldi etc.  Western Countries also have a solid welfare system that takes care of poor people or those not in employment. Great Countries are run by gifted leaders and observance of the rule of law. Nigeria needs great and selfless leaders first. Then we can start thinking of a good standard of living. Cheers.

PoliticsRe: New Attacks On Christians In Kaduna State by Redman44(m): 11:02pm On Jul 12, 2010
I think it is high time for a referendum to be held in Nigeria angry angry I think the North should be excised from the rest of Nigeria. If we cannot live in peace with one another, it is better we part ways. Nigeria will do better and develop rapidly without the North. These gruesome incidents have been happening over the years with Non-Northerners being killed and churches being burnt and southerners reciprocating the violence. I wonder why the Federal Government has not given the Sultans and Emirs an ultimatum to talk to their people and ensure peace in their domains. It just shows that the Northern spiritual and political leaders are not strong again.

I still believe in the referendum. Let the North decide if it wants to stay on its own or remain with Nigeria. Other regions should also be given the chance to determine their manifest destinies. We can't go on like this and keep pretending we love one another. Enough is Enough, mates. The religious crises will continue until we take drastic measures to ensure peace in Nigeria. Cheers.

He played himself out of Nigeria's national set up when he missed that goal against the South Koreans. He was not even supposed to be at the World Cup if not for interference from NFF officials and the clueless Lars Lagerback . I'm particularly impressed with Thomas Mueller. He is a product of an environment that is well organized with world class facilities. Infact, the entire German was outstanding and I am impressed with the different ethnic groups that made up the squad. Germany is really changing these days. The Gerrman players were really young and I know the team will do well in the future. I took some German courses while I was at the University and I was exposed to how Germany was run and the country's sports, music, media and technology sectors. There are many teenagers in Nigeria who are gifted than Mueller. It is just that Nigeria is a disorganized place, so to speak. Academies in Nigeria [ That is if they are real academies ] are there to sell players off on slave contracts in Europe. The founders of many of these academies are not ready to see to the overall development of the kids and take the patience to groom them.  They are also grossly underfunded. I hope the new NFF Board will start tackling the problems of Nigerian footie. I'm out.

SportsRe: Drop A Congratulatory Message For South Africa! by Redman44(m): 9:38pm On Jul 12, 2010
The Republic of South Africa has done well. I know a lot of Europeans will change the way they perceive Africa and Africans. I was really proud as an African as the World Cup progressed. The Stadiums were magnificent and they were World Class Standard. All the noise the Western Media made about security issues have not been justified. SA 2010 remains one of the best World Cup tournaments in history. South Africa might have her own internal problems as a country, but the fact that the South Africans hosted the world for a month without washing their dirty linen in public speaks volumes about the Country's leadership. I believe Nigeria has a lot to learn from South Africa in terms of organization and maintaining facilities.

Some years ago while I was at the University of Ibadan, there was a guy that travelled to South Africa with my alma mater's cricket team for a championship. When the dude came back, he told us a lot of things about South Africa. He said the facilities at South African Universities were excellent and that the schools there could compete with European and American universities and colleges. The guy has been proved right with the facilities I saw on TV at SA 2010. You've done well, South Africa. Cheers.

PoliticsRe: 2011: Ribadu Declines To Contest For Presidency by Redman44(m): 11:33am On Jul 11, 2010
Nuhu Ribadu should think deeply before accepting to contest for Nigeria's Presidency. I feel he should work towards the 2015 elections. He needs to follow the Obama method by embarking on a campaign from now on and reaching people at the Grassroots. It is sad that our opposition parties are not methodical when planning for elections. Political Parties do not just exist to campaign and win elections. They are also meant to inspire people to become better citizens and instil a measure of nationalism in them. If Ribadu can spend 4 years to sell his vision to people by direct contact and direct advertsing, more people will get to know him and will be able to make up their minds when he asks for their votes. For someone like Ribadu to emerge as Nigeria's President, our current electoral process has to be dismantled for transparency and efficiency. We need to change the way we do things. Even if Ribadu wins, he will have to work hard to change the thinking of people around him. His advisers, Ministers etc might not share his dreams. Cheers.

I wish Obafemi Martins the best in Russia. Yeah, he might not really be 25 years old, but is he not a product of Nigeria's crazy environment? Until we change the way Football is administered in Nigeria, players will keep lying about their ages. Do we even take record keeping seriously? Martins did what he had to do to survive and get signed by a European club. He should use his new adventure to Russia as an opportunity to retire peacefully. He's done his best for Nigeria. Cheers.

@dayokanu @Snowdrops,

The predictions of Paul the Octopus have been aided by unfortunate events and refereeing decisions that are out of this planet. Germany missed Thomas Mueller when the machines played Spain. Personally, I don't think Spain and Holland are strong enough to be World Champions. Things just happen and we can't explain why they happen. It is just the same way people become great in life though the odds are stacked against them. The German Squad will do great things in the future. I'm sure of that.  I will be backing the Netherlands over Spain though wink wink wink Cheers.

FamilyRe: 70% Of Nigerians Are Mentally Unstable - Psychiatrist by Redman44(m): 4:21pm On Jul 09, 2010
The Psychiatrist's conclusions are very subjective. I'm afraid I'm not buying into his argument. Yeah, some Nigerians might display strange behaviour once in a while or might be certified mad men and women, but that does not make 70% of Nigerians mentally unstable. I'm talking from experience. Someone might start behaving aggressively due to the pressures of life. Maybe the person is jobless or he's just be swindled by fraudsters. What about a lady who has just been jilted by a guy she loves deeply? Loads of things happen in this life but I've noticed that as soon as we put bad occurrences behind us, we become ourselves again. I make bold to say there were times when I've behaved like a lunatic in the past [ Though I was sane and doing well with my life ] due to some issues I had.

As for the lady that said she has come across many Nigerians with mental problems in the UK, I agree with her to an extent. However, her line of argument is also subjective. Many Nigerians in Britain are worried because of visa problems, bewitchment by envious people [ Don't laugh o ] veiled racism and their daily struggle to survive. The whites in Britain have their own mental problems too. I only pray that God sees us through in all our endeavours in life and wherever we find ourselves.  Cheers.

PoliticsRe: Jonathan Slashes N16.4 Billion Nigeria @ 50 Celebrations Budget by Redman44(m): 1:19pm On Jul 09, 2010
Goodluck Jonathan's cuts to the N 16.4 Billion Naira is not impressive. I don't see why we should be celebrating. I believe we all need to put on sack cloth wherever we are on this planet and mourn. We need to wail and gnash our teeth and repent deeply in our hearts as individuals and as a nation. I believe President Jonathan should have organized a live press conference with Nigerians which will be broadcast on Radio, Television and on the Internet. Our President will then give his Independence speech and take questions from Nigerians all over the World. He could use the opportunity to present his plans for the country to us and also address the energy crisis bedevilling Nigeria. The N16.4 Billion Naira is just too much. The money could be used to renovate selected Secondary or Primary schools all over the country. It is not yet time for celebrations. There is a lot of work to be done and after we've accomplished some things, we can then celebrate. It is not as if our Independence Anniversary should be dry and uninspiring, but the proposed cash should be reduced drastically. Cheers.

PoliticsRe: Which Is The Most Corrupt Government Parastatal? by Redman44(m): 12:48pm On Jul 09, 2010
I believe the Nigerian Customs Service is the Most Corrupt Government Parastatal in Nigeria. Over the years, I've become acquainted with Customs officers either through family relationships or as the neighbour next door. Sincerely, the way they get their money beats my imagination lipsrsealed lipsrsealed lipsrsealed  One of my big Aunts was married to a Customs officer of a high rank. The guy had houses in highbrow areas of Ikeja and he was wealthy. He moved with all kinds of expensive wines in his car. There was a time my elder brother went to spend his holidays with his family [ This Customs Guy is a friend of our family ] and he told me that junior customs officers were always bringing bags of rice, beans, granulated sugar, Semolina, kegs of palm oil and vegetable oil, electronic gadgets etc to the house everyday. Sincerely, I've not seen a Customs officer languishing in poverty cheesy cheesy cheesy  I'm not envious of the Customs guys because I believe some of the luxuries they afford are seized goods. Let us put ourselves in their shoes, mates. However, I feel the Customs Service should be more accountable to Nigerians. There is a Mafia running the Nigerian Customs Service and billions of Naira are uncounted for yearly. The Nigerian Customs Service is making a lot of money and I believe top officers of the service need to be investigated. Nigeria has become a country where people are becoming a law unto themselves instead of serving the nation.

Another very corrupt government body is the National Youth Service Corps [ NYSC ]. It has become a source of enrichment for some people who make money by providing Corper's kits and quoting outrageous prices. A lot of money is also unaccounted for after every batch of Corper's pass out. What has been done with the 500 Naira many outgoing Corpers were made to contribute as NYSC Foundation [ or what is the name sef? ] fees?  I believe the NYSC has outlived its usefulness. Cheers.

Music/RadioRe: Hit Songs With Bad Music Videos by Redman44(m): 2:53pm On Jul 07, 2010
@Jnr Prof,

Can you retract your statement concerning Style Plus? I believe the video of their hit track '' Call My Name'' is great. The video was well produced and even better than some videos produced for the songs of American and British musicians. Yeah, I don't like the videos of their other songs but I believe Style Plus would have had better videos if they had the crucial financial resources.

@ Nairalanders,

I agree with you that the hit songs of Nigerian artists have many bad videos. The video for 9ice's song 'Gongo Aso' was very bad. I believe he should have taken a cue from P-Square. P-Square's videos are great. That is why they have been nominated for the BET Awards. Generally, a lot of work needs to be done by Nigerian Music labels when producing videos for the songs of Nigerian artistes. Camera shots need to be improved upon and filters should be increasingly used to make the videos look good. I believe we are getting there gradually. Cheers.
