yes I just found out now, just used my nin to unblocked my mum sim

Not a good idea though. It's better she register for her own NIN instead. Incase she ever misplace the SIM, it will be easy to retrieve.

Phones / How To Unblock And Link Your NIN To Your MTN, Glo, Airtel And 9mobile Number by Reediano(m): 1:12pm On Apr 05, 2022
In December of 2020, the Nigerian President through the National Communication Commission (NCC) directed all citizens to link their phone number to thier National Identification Number (NIN) or risk getting their number blocked.

Although NCC has directed the telecommunication network providers to block the mobile phone number of all those who fail to link their SIM to thier NIN before the deadline, the deadline date have had to be extended multiple times due to low turnout by citizens.

Now, Dr. ISA Pantami who is the minister of communication has finally directed all telecom operators in Nigeria mainly Glo, MTN, Airtel and 9mobile to start barring all outgoing calls on SIM cards not yet linked to thier NIN and this takes effect from April 5th 2022.

So if you haven't linked your line yet, you will only be able to receive call but you won't be able to make outgoing calls. You can however still link your phone number if you want to start making calls again and the procedure is very simple as long as you already have your National Identification Number.

How to Link your NIN to Your MTN, Glo, Airtel or 9Mobile Number
How Link your NIN to your MTN Mobile Number

* Dial *785# on the MTN phone number you want to link.
* Input your NIN in the provided space and submit.

OR

* Dial *785*Your NIN# from the phone number you want to link. The number will be linked to your NIN automatically.

OR

*You can also visit https://mtnonline.com/nin/

OR

* You can download the MyMTN App to submit your NIN details.

How to Link your NIN to your Glo Mobile Number

* For Glo users, send “UPDATENIN NIN FirstName LastName” to 109.
E.g: UPDATENIN 2344684612 RASHEED PANTAMI to 109

How to Link NIN to your Airtel Number

* For Airtel users, dial *121*1#.
* Then input your NIN in the provided space.

How to Link your NIN to your 9mobile Number

* Visit http://www.9mobile.com.ng/nin

Phones / Latest Whatsapp Update For Android Adds Fingerprint Lock by Reediano(m): 11:40am On Nov 01, 2019
WhatsApp has started rolling out a new update for Android users. The latest WhatsApp update for Android comes with one new important feature which is the addition of a fingerprint lock for more security.

WhatsApp initially rolled out touch ID and face ID support for iPhone users earlier this year and now fingerprint lock layer of security is now available for Android users. As expected the fingerprint option will only be available if your phone has a fingerprint scanner.

Activating the new Whatsapp fingerprint lock on Android is pretty simple and straightforward. First, make sure you are on the latest version of WhatsApp, laiunch the app, click on the three dots on the top right corner and tap on Settings >> Account >> Privacy >> Fingerprint lock. After that, just turn on Unlock with fingerprint to confirm your fingerprint and you are good to go.

Phones / MTN Will Now Charge You For USSD Banking Transaction You Perform by Reediano(m): 3:17pm On Oct 20, 2019
USSD codes for banking transactions has always been a life saver since it's inception. There are definitely times when you want to make transfer but you have no access to internet or an ATM, or you want to quickly top-up your airtime. Banking USSD codes do come in handy in cases like this.

Before now, making any transaction from your bank using the bank's USSD access from your MTN line has always been free with no charges from your network operator. But now, MTN will start charging for USSD code transaction performed from your bank.

According to a message from MTN, starting from October 21 of this year, every USSD bank transaction will now incur charges. You will now be charged N4 for every 20 seconds of USSD access to your bank. This charges will be made directly from your airtime balance.

You can however still use for bank's mobile app for free, but unfortunately this requires internet access and some banking App are not that stable.

So what do you guys think about this new development.

Phones / Get 1GB Of Data + 3 Hours Streaming On 9mobile For N200 by Reediano(m): 4:14am On Oct 20, 2019
Data is no doubt very expensive in this part of the world, but while that might be the case, every single network provider in Nigeria also do have data offers that gives you data at a much cheaper rate like the MTN 1GB for N200 welcome back offer, Airtel myOffer 16GB for N3,000 and Glo 1GB for N300.

Etisalat is also not left out as they have just introduced a new data plan offer which gives users 1GB of data and 3 hours of streaming all for just N200. This is really a great deal especially if you happen to stream a lot. You can imagine how much data you will normally have to spend for 3 hours of YouTube streaming for example.

How to activate the 9mobile 1GB + 3 Hours streaming for N200 plan
> Get a new 9mobile SIM or an old SIM (preferably less than 3 months old).
> Make sure you have atleast N200 airtime and dial *253*20#.
> You will receive 1GB data + 3 Hours of free streaming.
> dial *228# to check data balance
> It's valid for 2 days

Phones / Glo 4G LTE Network Now Supports Band 3(1800 Mhz) by Reediano(m): 11:33am On Aug 23, 2019
Glo has some of the most affordable data plans in Nigeria but the biggest problem with the network provider has always being its poor network. Few years ago, Glo rolled out its 4G LTE network with the hope of solving some of its network issues but it decided to go with the not so popular band 28(700mHz).

The problem with the band 28 is that it is found mainly on high smartphones and since most Nigerians uses Midrange and entry-level smartphones, only a few number of people were able to enjoy the Glo 4G network. The Telco has however now solved this issue by adding one more band which is the band 3(1800MHz).

Unlike the band 28, the new band 3 can be found on almost all 4G enabled smartphones, which means that almost everyone can now enjoy the Glo 4G network as long as there is Glo 4G network in your location.

As i mentioned at the beginning of this post, Glo has some of the cheapest data plans and one of them is the Glo Oga SIM Data offer which gives you 1.8GB data for N500, 3.6GB for N1,000, 8.26GB for N2,000 12.9GB for N2500 and many more. You can read more on the Glo Oga Sim data offer by clicking on this LINK.

Phones / You Can Now Unlock Whatsapp With Fingerprint by Reediano(m): 10:22am On Aug 16, 2019
In January of this year 2019, WhatsApp rolled out a biometric authentication feature which allows iOS users to setup a Face ID or Touch ID authentication to unlock the WhatsApp application. Now after about 7 months later, the feature is finally rolling out to Android users.

WhatsApp has started rolling out an update which comes with a new authentication feature that allows Android users to lock their WhatsApp application with their fingerprint. The feature is currently only available on the beta version of WhatsApp for Android.

If you are already on the WhatsApp beta program, all you need to do is just to update your WhatsApp to the latest version or for those who are on the stable version and wish to try out this new feature, you can go ahead and download the WhatsApp beta v2.19.221 from Google play store or from this LINK below.

Note that even with the fingerprint lock enabled you will still be able to receive voice or video call without unlocking. You will also be able to view and reply messages directly from the notification panel. The fingerprint authentication lock will only prevent third party from opening your WhatsApp application.

Phones / Huawei To Launch A Smartphone Running On Hongmeng OS Before The End Of 2019 by Reediano(m): 7:37pm On Aug 06, 2019
There have been multiple rumours about Huawei working on its own operating system known as the HongMeng OS. According to Huawei's excecutives, Hongmeng is an operating system designed for internet-of-things products.

The company is expected to officially release the Hongmeng OS at the Huawei's Developer Conference on August 9 in Dongguan, South China's Guangdong Province. The OS is expected to be Huawei long anticipated alternative to Google's Android operating system.

Report has it that the company is currently testing the Hongmeng OS on one of its upcoming smartphones. The smartphone is targeted at the low-end market with a starting price of around 2,000 yuan ($288.24). This is also expected to attract developers to the new OS.

Huawei has been on the receiving end of the trade war between USA and China. The company was put on the US "entity list" which prevents it from buying supplies from US companies including Google. So future Huawei devices won't be getting the Google Apps as well as regular Google's Android security patch. The Hongmeng OS is however expected to be a replacement to that.

According to the company, the first set of devices that will run on the new Hongmeng OS are Honor smart TV series followed by autonomous driving, remote medical services and industrial control. The OS will eventually be available for smartphones even though the company's spokesperson initially denied it.

Phones / Google Assistant Can Now Read And Reply Messages From Third Party Apps by Reediano(m): 10:28am On Aug 04, 2019
Until now, saying "read my messages" on Google assistant will allow it read out your text messages and even give you the option to either type out your reply or dictate it. This feature was however limited to just text messages only and not extended to other third party messaging apps.

Now, Google has started rolling out a new update to the Google assistant which will let it read out and reply messages on the default messaging app as well as third part messaging apps like Whatsap, telegram, Facebook, messenger etc.

To get started, call up Google assistant and ask it to "read my messages". You will receive a pop-up asking you to grant it permission after which it will start reading out all your messaging from various apps including the sender's name and the app the message is coming from.

You will also see a visual card which will show you the preview of the messages and you will have the option to either type out or dictate your reply.

This new feature will however only read out text messages, so any message containing any media like photo, audio or video will not be read or played out, messenger will just tell you that "the message just contains an audio attachment."
