Phones / Samsung To Launch The Galaxy Fold In September by Reediano(m): 10:34am On Jul 27, 2019
Samsung was supposed to launch it's first foldable smartphone which is the Galaxy fold on April 26 but that was put on hold as multiple issues arose from review units sent out to influencers.

Some influencers peeled off the outermost plastic film layer of the foldable display which they thought was a screen protector and that rendered the display useless, others managed to get debris under the display layer through the opening at the top of the hinge while some other units just stopped working for no reason.

Samsung recalled and has made some hardware changes which the company believes will fix all the vulnerabilities found in the Galaxy fold and the device is now expected to launch in September of this year 2019.

The outermost protective layer which was mistaken for a removable screen protector has now been extended underneath the display bezels in other to prevent users from mistakenly peeling it off. The space between the hinge and the body when the phone is closed has also been reduced.

Phones / Huawei Will Soon Be Allowed To Continue Trading With US Companies by Reediano(m): 9:16am On Jul 18, 2019
In May of this year 2019, the U.S. Commerce Department placed China's tech giant Huawei on it's Entity List due to allegations that the company might be posing a security threat to the country by providing a backdoor on its products for the Chinese government to spy on its American consumers.

Even though Huawei denied all the allegations, the ban was still placed and the company was restricted access from getting suplies from companies like Google, Qualcomm, Intel, ARM holdings and many others.

However, on June 29 at the G-20 summit, both the USA and China government reached an agreement on the ongoing trade war between both countries and the US president Donald Trump announced that US companies will now be allowed to continue trading with Huawei if they want to. The announcement however didn't clarify what the US companies were allowed and not allowed to trade with Huawei.

It now looks like everything has been sorted out as latest report has it that the US government is now ready to issue out license to any company that is ready to continue selling components to Huawei.

The process is expected to take as short as two to four weeks which means Huawei can resume trade as early as next month.

Even with this new development, America still sees Huawei as a threat, so the company will still always need a license before they can trade with US companies and this will continue until US lawmakers are fully convinced that the company isn't spying on its American consumers.

Phones / Xiaomi Mi A3 Officially Announced, Full Specs And Price by Reediano(m): 4:38am On Jul 18, 2019
Xiaomi has just officially launched the third generation of it's MI A series and it is called the Mi A3. Xiaomi Mi A1 and Mi A2 holds the record for the highest selling Android One smartphones in the world and the company will hope the new MI A3 continues with this record. The MI A3 is a major upgrade from last year's Mi A2 but it starts at the same price.

Xiaomi's new Mi A3 is a rebranded MI CC9e which was recently launched in China. This means both phones have the same design and specification and the only difference is the OS. While the Mi CC9e runs on Xiaomi's MIUI skin, the new Mi A3 is based on stock Android. The phone sports a 6.1-inch Amoled HD display with a resolution of 720 x 1560 pixels which is a downgrade from the 1080 x 2060 pixels found on it's predecessor the Mi 2 and Mi A2 lite.

The phone is powered by Qualcomms Snapdragon 665 chipset which isn't really much of an upgrade from the Snapdragon 660 used in the previous generation. It also comes with a 4GB RAM and a 64GB or 128GB expandable internal storage. The phone runs on Vanilla Android 9.0 Pie out of the box and it's expected to get the Android Q once the stable version is available.

The phone comes with a pretty large 4030 mAh battery compared to the smaller 3000mAh on the MI A2. It also supports fast charge technology of up to 18W but it however comes with a 10W charging brick out of the box. The phone also uses an in-screen fingerprint reader instead of the traditional rear-mounted fingerprint. It supports USB Type C, 4G LTE, Bluetooth 5.0 and it also brings back the headphone jack which was removed in the previous generation.

In terms of camera, the Mi A3 comes with a triple rear camera setup which consists of a primary 48MP Sony sensor with f/1.78 aperture and no OIS (Optical Image Stabilization), 8MP 118° ultra wide-angle camera and a 2MP depth sensor. The rear facing camera is capable of recording up to 2160p video at 30fps or 1080p video at 120fps. In the front is a 32MP single front facing shooter which is housed inside the water-drop notch and it's capable of shooting up to 1080p video at 30fps.

The Mi A3 is already available for pre-order in Spain and shipping will start on July 24. As far as pricing goes, the phone will start at €249 ($279, Rs 19,231, N100,000) for the 4GB/64GB version while the higher 4GB/128GB model will be priced at (€279 ($312, Rs 21,549, N112,000). It will be available in Kind of Gray, Not just Blue, and More than White colour options.

Recent tweet by Xiaomi has suggested that the Mi A3 will be launched very soon. The Xiaomi Android One series which is the MI A line is currently the world's best selling Android One series.
There have been a couple of rumours flying around on what to expect from the upcoming Mi A3 device and now a live image of the device and the retail box has just been leaked online. This gives us the best shot yet on what the Mi A3 will look like and what to expect in terms of specifications.

The Mi A3 will sport a 6.08" Super-Amoled Full-HD+ display with a resolution of 2240 x 1080 pixels. It will also run on stock Android 9.0 Pie out of the box. The images posted online suggests that the phone will be available in blue, white and black colour options.

Phones / Xiaomi Accidentally Promotes Its Memoji Clone "Mimoji" With An Actual Apple Ad by Reediano(m): 4:09pm On Jul 06, 2019
Xiaomi recently released it's new MI CC9 smartphone alongside it's Mimoji which is a shameless clone of Apple's Augmented Reality feature Memoji, but even with the glaring resemblance, Xiaomi denied that it's new Mimoji was in any way inspired by Apple's Memoji.

The company however made a bigger blunder this week when it accidentally promoted it's Mimoji with an Apple's music Ad which features the AR version of musical artist Khalid singing a song. This video was embedded in Xiaomi's product page for the Mi CC9 smartphone on e-commerce platforms JD.com and Suning.

Xiaomi's public relations general manager Xu Jieyun, has however come out to say that the Xiaomi staff uploaded the wrong content and the Ad video has now been removed from both e-commerce platforms.

The company isn't new to copying designs and IPs from Apple. Most of Xiaomi's older and a few of the newer smartphones is a copy of Apple's iPhone design, even the MIUI user interface is greatly inspired by iOS and the company's Airdots is another copy of Apple's Airpods

Phones / Vivo Shows Off World's Fastest Charging Technology by Reediano(m): 1:52pm On Jun 27, 2019
There was a time when smartphones OEMs were all about who can put the biggest battery capacity in their phones, and that was when we started seeing great improvements in battery life on phones, but this then lead to the problem of how to charge this large batteries faster. This problem was however quickly solved with fast charging technology.

Over the past few years, we have seen insane numbers in terms of charging speed from OEMs like OnePlus, Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi and a load of others. The development however hasn't stopped yet and we keep on seeing more improvements in that area.

Earlier this year, Xiaomi showed off it's massive 100W charging technology which can get a 4000mAh battery from 0 to 100% in just 17 minutes. This is way more faster than what we have seen so far from top players like Huawei, OnePlus and Oppo.

Even though the Xiaomi's 100W fast charge tech is still in development and hasn't been launched yet, Vivo has already created something faster and more powerful.

Vivo just teased its new 120W super FlashCharge which the company claims can charge up a 4000mAh battery from 0% to 100% in just 13 minutes. This is 4 minutes faster than Xiaomi's prototype 100W fast charge.

The company showed off the new 120W super FlashCharge tech in a short video clip. The video clip showed a battery being charged from 10% to 14% in just 60 seconds. There is however no much details on how this new tech works or when it will go into production.

Phones / Glo Special Data Offer Is Back, Now N300 For 1GB by Reediano(m): 5:37pm On May 22, 2019
The Glo special data plan used to be one of the cheapest data plans you could get until Glo decided to stop the plan last month. With the Glo special data, you will get 1.2GB of data for N200 valid for 3day and you can use it to browse, download or even stream.

Now, Glo has just reintroduced the special data plan but with a twist. The plan is now more expensive than before and the validity period as well as the data cap has been reduced. Instead of the 1.2GB for N200, you will now get just 1GB of data for N300. The validity period has also been reduced from 3days to just a day.

This is still a bit fair compared to the 1GB for N350 Airtel download bundle which is also valid for just 1 day , but it doesn't change the fact that the plan is a bit expensive. Nonetheless, if you want to activate the plan, just follow the procedure below.

How to activate the Glo special data plan

> Make sure you have at least N300 on your Glo SIM.

> Dial *777# then select 1 to buy data, then select 1 again for 3G/4G data bundle.

> Select 5 for the special data offer followed by 1 for the daily offer.

> Now select 1 again to activate the N300 for 1GB data plan.

> You will be charged N300 and receive 1GB data which is valid for 1 day.

Phones / Mtn Instabinge Data Plan, 1gb For N200, 250mb For N100 by Reediano(m): 10:58am On May 11, 2019
MTN introduced the Instabinge data plan last year for pulse subscribers who happen to be Instagram users. With the Instabinge data plan, users will get 250MB for N100 and 1GB for N200. The problem with the data plan however is that it's only for Instagram and it's only valid for just a day(24 hours).

Now MTN has just updated the Instabinge social data plan by extending the validity period for both plans. Both the 250MB for N100 and 1GB for N200 plan will be valid for 3days instead of 1day. The subscription code still remains the same thing.

How to subscribe to the MTN Pulse InstaBinge Bundle

>> Make sure you are on Pulse tariff plan or dial *406*1# to migrate.

>> Dial *406# and select 5 for InstaBinge bundles.

OR

>> Send INSTD1 to 131 for InstaBinge Lite bundle and INSTD2 to 131 for InstaBinge Heavy bundle.

How to check your InstaBinge data balance

>> To check the InstaBinge data balance, just dial *559*39#.

Note: The Instabinge plan is for Instagram only. It doesn't power other apps or websites.

Phones / Whatsapp To End Support For All Windows Phone, Older Android And Ios Versions by Reediano(m): 8:13pm On May 09, 2019
WhatsApp is finally pulling the plug on the App for all windows phone by the end of this year. It will also end support for older Android and iOS smartphones by Q1 of next year which is by February 2020.

WhatsApp was supposed to end support for the windows mobile platform by 2020 but it had to backtrack since Microsoft already announced that it will no longer be supporting Windows phone.

If your device is running on Android version 2.3.7 and older, then WhatsApp will stop working on your device starting from February 1, 2020. Also, if you have iOS 7 and older currently running on your device, you will no longer be able to use WhatsApp starting from February 1, 2020. WhatsApp will however stop working on all windows phone as from December 31, 2019.

Note that some WhatsApp features might stop working on those above mentioned platforms and OS versions even before the deadline as WhatsApp has already stopped development for them.

Also, you can no longer create new accounts, nor reverify existing accounts, as of right now if you are using any of these older Android and iOS versions, but you can still do that on your Windows phone.

Phones / Google Pixel 3a And Pixel 3a XL Full Specifications And Price by Reediano(m): 11:13pm On May 08, 2019
Finally, after all the rumours and leaked Specs, Google has officially launched the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL. The leaks were however correct, both devices are fairly price with midrange specifications and they also have the top of the line camera hardware and software found on the more expensive pixel devices.

The Pixel 3a and 3a XL are both powered by Qualcomm's midrange Snapdragon 670 chipset with Adreno 615 GPU even though this is lower than Snapdragon 845 found on the Pixel 3 and 3XL, the 3a shares the same 4GB RAM as the more expensive siblings. The phone also comes with 64GB internal storage but with no sdcard slot.

The pixel 3a sports a 5.6-inch notch-less OLED display panel with FHD+ resolution of 1080 x 2220px (441ppi) and Dragon Trail protection on top. The pixel 3a XL on the hand comes with a larger 6-inch OLED display with FHD+ resolution of 1080 x 2160px (402ppi). It also comes with no notch and it is protected by the same Dragon Trail glass used on the smaller pixel 3a.

Both phones shares the same camera setup, featuring a single 12.2MP Sony IMX363 main sensor on the back with f/1.8 aperture, 1.4µm pixels and optical image stabilization. In the front is also a single 8MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture. Even though this are budget smartphones, you still get all the Google camera features including Night Sight, Top Shot, Super Res Zoom and HDR+.

Google has decided to bring back the 3.5mm audio jack on both devices as well as the stereo loud speaker. The Pixel 3a has a 3000mAh battery while the 3a XL has a larger 3700mAh battery with both phones supporting up to 18Watt fast charge.

Phones / Samsung Delays The Galaxy Fold Launch Indefinitely by Reediano(m): 8:41pm On May 08, 2019
The first generation Samsung Galaxy fold was just a few days away from its official launch which was slated for April 26 before a couple of influencers started complaining about screen issues from the review units sent to them.

Apparently most of the issues were due to reviewers peeling off the outermost layer of the screen which they thought was a removable protective layer and they were also a few other cases which weren't caused by user errors. Samsung was forced to release an official statement on the issue, after which it recalled all the review units and the launch date was officially delayed.

Now, it seems Samsung still hasn't been able to resolve the issue on the device yet as the launch of its first foldable phone has been delayed indefinitely.

Samsung has however sent emails to those who pre-ordered the device, giving them the option to keep their order or cancel their order and get a full refund of any amount they paid without any charges.

Huawei's own foldable smartphone is just a few weeks away from its official launch and the company has reinterate that it's ready and the date won't be postponed, but with the recent Samsung Galaxy fold disaster, a lot of skepticism still surrounds the Mate X launch.

Phones / Twitter Users Can Now Add Photos, Gifs And Videos To Retweets by Reediano(m): 11:23pm On May 07, 2019

Before now, twitter has always given users the option to add comment when retweeting other people's tweet but this has always been limited to just text comment only, which means users can't add images, GIFs or videos to comments when retweeting.

That is however changing now as Twitter just announced in a recent tweet that users will be able to add media files to retweets. Twitter will now allow users to add photo, video or GIF to a Retweet, instead of only text. The feature is now live on iOS, Android and Twitter’s mobile website.

The feature is very easy to use, just click on the retweet icon at the bottom of the post you want to retweet, select "retweet with comment" and add any photo or other media file you want to add to your comment.

In other to make sure that retweets with media files don't appear too disruptive, Twitter will display the retweet and the attached media file in full size while the original tweet and the author's avatar will appear in a small box. Even though this is just a small upgrade, it will definitely have an impact how we retweet and improve general twitter experience.

Phones / Xiaomi Sends The Redmi Note 7 To Space For A Photoshoot by Reediano(m): 12:14am On May 07, 2019

Xiaomi has put the redmi note 7 through a lot of weird and unusual durability test just to prove how durable the smartphone is. This includes breaking a watermelon with the phone, using the screen as a board for cutting fruit as well as being tromped on by a group of people.

Now, Xiaomi has just taken the durability test to a whole new level by proving that the redmi note 7 would not just survive on earth but also in space. Xiaomi's CEO, Lei Jun recently shared a video on his official weibo account showing the redmi note 7 being sent to space with the help of a weather balloon and a 3D printed rig.
https://youtube.com/watch?v=2Lnb6eLtDB8
The phone reached a height of 35km and a temperature of minus -58 degrees Celsius (-72 degrees Fahrenheit) before the balloon popped and the phone fell back to earth. The phone was however able to take a couple of pictures with its 48MP interpolated rear camera and some of them are available on Xiaomi's official twitter account.

The Redmi Note 7 was launched earlier this year with a 6.3-inch display, it is powered by Qualcomm's midrange Snapdragon 660 chipset. It has a dual rear camera setup with a primary 48MP sensor and a 5MP depth sensor. The phone come with a 4000mAh battery and support for QC 4.0 fast charging.

Phones / How To Enable Dark Mode On Google Chrome For Android by Reediano(m): 1:01pm On Apr 28, 2019
Dark mode is gradually becoming a thing especially on Android devices as App developers are already adding this feature to their Apps. Dark mode helps with night time reading and it also help increase battery life.

Google is already working on a system wide dark mode for its upcoming Android Q and it has already started rolling out the feature to some of its apps such as YouTube. Now, the latest chrome update also comes with dark among many other features.

This feature is still in test mode so it's not readily available for Chrome users, which means it needs to be enabled first before you can turn it on. In this post, I will show you simple steps on how to enable the dark mode on Google Chrome for Android.

How to Enable Dark Mode on Google Chrome

> Make sure you are on Google Chrome V74. or any later version.

> Copy and paste chrome://flags/#enable-android-night-mode in the address bar.

> Under "Android Chrome UI dark mode", click on the drop down list and select "Enable".

> After that, just click on "Relaunch Now" to restart the app.

> Then go to settings >> dark mode and click on the slider to turn it on.

That's all.

As I mentioned earlier, this feature is still in test mode so it doesn't take effect on all websites yet except for chrome's own UI.

Phones / Samsung Officially Postpones The Launch Of The Galaxy Fold Globally by Reediano(m): 2:39am On Apr 23, 2019
There was a report earlier about Samsung postponing the Galaxy fold launch event in Asia and now the company has just officially announced that the Galaxy fold launch has been put on hold globally and the new date will be communicated later on.

The reason for the change of date is not far fetched as there have been multiple cases of the review units given to influencers developing screen issues within 48 hours of use. The screen issue was mostly due to users inadvertently removing the protective film on the display, which they thought was just a disposable screen protector similar to the ones pre-installed on many smartphones nowadays.

Samsung initially release a statement last week acknowledging the problem and also promising to investigate and fix it before the April 26 launch date, but it seems the problem is way more critical than they initially thought as Samsung has now been forced to delay the launch event.

There is no new date yet for the Galaxy fold launch but it's expected to be within a month's time. Huawei is also expected to launch its own foldable smartphone the "Mate X" by June of this year but there have been a couple of conflicting reports that the launch might be pushed back to September. Huawei has however dismissed this rumour.

Phones / Facebook Admits Recent Password Leak Affects Millions Of Instagram Accounts by Reediano(m): 11:57am On Apr 21, 2019
Facebook just announced via a recent blog post that it encountered a security issue which saved millions of user's passwords in plain text instead of the company's system of "masking passwords using techniques that make them unreadable."

This incident first came up last month where Facebook claimed only tens of thousands of accounts were affected, but on further investigation, the company found out that the issue was more wide spread and it estimate that millions of Instagram users were affected.

According to the updated post, it says:

“We discovered additional logs of Instagram passwords being stored in a readable format,” the company said. “We now estimate that this issue impacted millions of Instagram users.

We will be notifying these users as we did the others.”
“Our investigation has determined that these stored passwords were not internally abused or improperly accessed,”
Going by this post, Facebook claims that investigation has shown that no one from inside or outside the company accessed these passwords. The company however still hasn't given an exact figure as to how many users were affected.

Facebook still hasn't given details as to how this bug occurred but it's advisable to change your WhatsApp and Instagram passwords. Facebook also suggest that you enable two-factor authentication on your Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp account.

The WhatsApp business app which was launched back in September of 2017 for Android users have now started rolling out globally for iOS users also. The rollout initially began a couple of weeks ago but until now, it was only available in a few countries.

Unlike your regular WhatsApp application, the business App gives you a lot more features and benefits like automated quick replies, greeting and away messages which is similar to that of Facebook Messenger. when setting up your account, you also get to create a profile with the establishment’s address, working hours and links to social media accounts.

Phones / Re: Whatsapp Now Gives You Control Over Who Can Add You To A Whatsapp Group by Reediano(m): 5:02am On Apr 04, 2019
Xavi2019:
Nice move, one thing I'd like WhatsApp to introduce too is a search group feature for specific groups to join, just like Facebook.
Just like on telegram, but I don't see WhatsApp doing that anytime soon.
Phones / Whatsapp Now Gives You Control Over Who Can Add You To A Whatsapp Group by Reediano(m): 2:54am On Apr 04, 2019
Until now, WhatsApp admins can add anybody to their WhatsApp group without the person's consent, as long as the number is in their contact list. Even though users can leave the group at anytime, it's still very annoying finding yourself in a random group without your consent.

WhatsApp is however tacklig this privacy issue with its latest update. A new update is now being rolled out which will give WhatsApp users control over who can add them to any WhatsApp group. The new update comes with 3 options which are "Everyone", "My Contacts" and "Nobody".

If you set the Group's menu option to "Everyone" which is the default, then everyone will be able to add you to a group, it you select "My contacts" then only those in your contact list will be able to add you and if you select "Nobody", then everyone who wants to add you to a WhatsApp group will need your consent.

If you are a group admin and you want to add anyone with a restricted access, you will be required to send an invite link to the person via private message and the user will have 72 hours to accept the invite after which the link wont be active anymore.

To access this new feature, just head over to Settings > Account > Privacy > Groups. The new feature has already started rolling and it's expected to get to all users soon.
