Having fought and died in terrible conflicts to secure the colonies, particularly in north Africa Charles De Gaulle suddenly threw in the towel and set Algeria free including the hardened fighters that were responsible for some of the worst massacres of french legionnaires causing so much bitterness and resentment towards the government.

They promptly formed the OAS, an organisation aimed at seeking revenge. De Gaulle just had to go.

It is a very dicey thing when governments fail to consider the sensibilities of the men and women in uniform, agents of security and law enforcement when issues of amnesty occur. It may be good politics and optics but it can be demoralising and institution damaging to see their efforts truncated.

As a matter of fact the personal security of these men and women in uniform is put at risk with the release of these felons especially those convicted of senselessly violent crime. I just hope that the armed forces council and police service commission were consulted and their free will accepted.

Government should be extremely wary about you undermining the law, the institutions of law enforcement and security and the sensibilities of the operatives.
Politics › Re: Umahi Reveals Why The Super Highway Is Expensive (Video) by Reference(m): 5:40pm On Oct 13, 2025
It is that expensive and the budget unknown because you are not in control of the cost. It is the Contractor that decides that. Decides what he wants to do, what he intends to spend and you agree and approve simply because of influence.

I know these types of contracts. Nigeria has been plagued by these kinda for decades. In the Babangida days it got so bad that crude oil was offered as payment. We know the levels of corruption that emerged from that experience.

The national assembly needs to wade into this matter to get to the bottom of the financials as concerning this coastal road project. Other nations have done far more complex engineering projects such as the rail line under the Alps or the Channel tunnel or that under the Bosporus, even the many ground breaking projects in China, all having their costs surrounded before, during and after construction. Why is an ordinary concrete highway so difficult to cost.

The Minister had better think well. The Emefiele saga has shown that accountability after office is real and there will be no hiding behind officialdom or Executive orders to short change this country.

Why did the government bring in a new tax law if they had no intention of raising revenue?

You have forgotten that Lagos state IGR is the largest in the country. This year, due to improved revenue collection, gocernment claimed it achieved its revenue targets by August. This is despite a fall in crude oil prices.

Tinubu has always believe in taxation. The government $2bn loan from the World Bank to increase tax collection by 3% of GDP. From what I see Tinubu is aiming to reach at least 6-8% instead.

So, your belief that this government has no aim to improve tax revenue is rather strange.

Things may be hard for now, but he inherited an economy in tatters. But eminent economists and the two Bretton Wood sisters have praised the reforms, and states the economy is stabilising.

Economic growth rate is beginning to rise, and it's now at 4% The government is targeting 10%.
But is Lagos atate getting out of debt trap, yes or no. And please, a 4 percent growth minis a 25 rate of inflation is a -21 peecwnt year on shrink in the economy or deficits which will need to bw filled with new credits.

Getting inflation down to single dgits is the key to any visible economic recovery. It is the single sole task any serious government should pursue.
Politics › Re: Nigeria’s Public Debt Hits N152.4 Trillion By June 2025 by Reference(m):

When Tinubu took office, 97% of government revenue was going towards debt servicing. Contrast this with the 26% Buhari met.

To better grasp the severity of the issue, imagine your salary is 10m a month, and after settling debt, you are left with 300k.

Debt servicing now takes up less than half revenue. The government will need to keep borrowing foe some time, until debt servicing consumes less than 20% of gocernment revenue

In addition, the present borrowing is more sustainable now than under Buhari.

We also need to define the size of borrowing in "real terms.

If a government borrowed N2trillion in 2015 when the exchange rate was $1- N200, that was $10bn.

What if the govement borrows 6 trillion today at an exchange rate of $1- N1,500 and you get $4bn.

Why is this so? This is because the money in circulation is much larger today.

Then, it might have been 10 trillion in 2015, today it is 100 trillion.

I simply used exchange rates to explain Hocus pocus things.
Na waoh.

Did you just say that government should continue to borrow until 'debt servicing consumes less....less.

Tell me what hocus pocus will square that financial circle.

Look fellas. There is no alternative to a well run economy. Take that to the bank. Because there is no other source of stress free adventurerrevenue stream to the country other than taxation. It is the only way, the only way, the only way (three times for emphasis), to get out of the debt trap.

Unfortunately for this government it cannot leverage on the golden egg because it has failed to care for the goose. As a matter of fact it has long eaten it up.

A government that is making life miserable for the producer, the entrepreneur, the adventurer or investor. A government that rather expends the largest sum, the largest single capital vote on a single company building a highway, a contractor for that matter, not even an industrial concern (that can continue to generate revenue for years to come) in my opinion has surrendered to the debt trap.

They simply don't believe Nigeria can get out of it.

Hmmm...DMO.
I hope the sycos will not rename them the DeMarketing Organisation of Nigeria.

Folks, there is no alternative to a well run economy. No amount of cook books or white wash can make a meal out of a millstone or cover it.

You simply cannot kickstart an economic recovery with inflation hovering close to 30 percent. It is like trying to use firewood that has just been submerged in flood water.

When the average Nigerian (both individual and enterprise) burns the midnight oil trying to see where he can save money, where he can cut expenses, where he can trim staff and reduce overheads, where is the growth going to come from to trigger the recovery. Then you do more quantitative squeezing by the biggest tax grab in the history of the country.

Government has only two options. To either reduce inflation by investing in productivity (which it is not doing) or by spending, by replacing the lost purchasing power of the average Nigerian so as to keep factories going. But it is not doing that either.

It's spending remains clandestine and exclusive. That is why with all the claims of increasing revenues and allocations the impact on the economy is miniscule.

It is absurd to demand the release of someone accused of serious crimes like treason. The evidence against Nnamdi Kanu is widely available for anyone to see online, which makes it difficult to understand how his case can be framed as purely political. This country is a joke if it entertains such notions. The rule of law must be allowed to take its course without interference.
So how many years does it take to try such a serious crime as treason my friend....a decade?

Any serious minded person will know that his detention is political as long as his case remains inconclusive. And political for the reasons of electoral expediency.

Call it whatever you wish but this match, this qualifying session has further proven the decline of this country and not just on economic and social fronts. We are well below where we should be. Such that even with more slots we still cannot make the world cup.

It is clear that other nations and not just the developed ones but our fellow African countries have caught up and overtaken us.

My appeal to all Nigerians is to wake up from the slumber which is primarily ethnicity.and tribal conflicting and let us start to build a proper nation. Because we are at the races the grand prix of global development with a blown engine, an engine having dysfunction cylinders.

Because when we isolate certain nationals, marginalise parts of our populace we are effectively fighting ourselves and limiting our ability to build a nation. It affects everything....our beloved pastime included.

We badly need pan Nigeria solidarity.

It's like asking government to come take care of 1004 even after selling it to private owners ,the reason nigeria hasn't gone far is because citizens refuse to take responsibility for things they should and would rather point fingers at the govt.
Oga, it is the responsibility of government to effect the laws that make cities, states and territories decent and habitable.

Laws about planning, laws about the environment, laws about development control.

In Abuja it is them that designated green areas for ambience, food control. It is them that are giving out permits to build over them today. Just annoying.
Properties › Re: The Unique Building Pattern Features Of Festac Town From Inception by Reference(m): 2:36pm On Oct 10, 2025
That is how Abuja will turn out in a hundred years from now at the rate lawlessness rabes on.

Today virtually alll the green areas are being overrun, residential properties are being converted to commercial purposes and infrastructure is in decay.

Development is not about spending on projects and the provision of infrastructure alone. It is also about the power of laws and edicts to preserve them. It is about institutions being guardians of norms and standards.

This failure makes Nigeria a third world country and at the rate it goes will make Abuja a third world city in a a few decades just like Festac has gone bust.

Don't like commenting on these matters because it is a case of two wrongs typical of the Wike/Fubara macabre dance.

You don't drive a vehicle without a number plate. It is an offence anywhere in the world.

This alone puts you in a position of compromise and exposes you to the crminality of the police.

As for the police there is nothing more to say. They are worse than the criminals themselves and will remain so until Nigerians wrest power and authority of the police service from the government and insist law enforcement be domiciled at THEIR level.

So that we know our policemen'and women BY NAME just as we know the security men at our gates and vigilantes in our communities. Just as Americans in their towns and communities know their sheriffs and deputies by name.

Dalohad:
Change the name from Nigeria Police Force to 'Nigeria Police Service', the police is a paramilitary organisation and should be People-oriented, and service-based.
Well, that is the genesis of the problem. The moment you call it 'para military' then the orientation is generally towards militancy and control of the structures automatically defer to the government, specifically the highest office holder, the President as the 'Commander In Chief'.

So let us not call our police a para military organisation in the first place. Law enforcement agency is enough. Then the people get a fair shot at controlling it as a proper customer or public service agency.

And with the way this country is structured and the way this democracy is evolving we as a people badly need the police on our side because the present system is not working for us.

My preference for a grassroots based policing system I feel is the only way to taming insecurity and I will like to see the American law enforcement structure established in Nigeria where you have layers of local, state and federal policing agencies with control at those levels.

This country is simply too big and too complicated for one man heading one single agency to effectively police. This puts them perpetually behind crime and always chasing after criminal elements.
