Inspirer1:Half truths. In real terms they are collecting far less than previous administration allocations. That is why they and the Federal government itself cannot exit the debt trap. Even housewives know the limited mileage today's naira can reach. |
Neoteny:I often hear this position and wonder how folks like you view the world. I also recollect the same argument about the China/US trade war. I just want to ask this question. If the Middle East doesn't want to sell oil to the US or China doesn't want to trade with the US, who will they trade with, who will they earn money from, whose else's debt will be worth it. If the US suddenly stops buying China's goods or mideast oil what do you think will happen to those economies. I also think these global incidents are also playing into the hands of the US right wing that projects a more isolationist policy. Remember, during Trump's first term. He actually wanted to pull the US out of the UN, out of all global conflicts and of all Presidents lately tried to deescalate with Russia, North Korea and China. Even the Taiwan issue he is not committed to. The American right wing wants out of global issues. So I don't see how the US is the pre eminent force of evil around the world as a lot of people perceive. They intervene and people have an issue with that. But they have always intervened. They stop and pull out of countries, organisations and causes and then people have an issue with that as well. Remember that in 1941 the US was invited into the second world war by Europe after years of hesitation and a non interference policy. In the East their territories were attacked by Japan. That is what brought them to the global stage. They supplied arms to Russia to survive Hitler. They fought to liberate China from Japanese occupation. The US today is largely a construct of the world"s issues, a time machine to reflect the good, the bad and the ugly in all of world history over the last 100 years. That is a fact. In another 100 years I will not be surprised if Israel be omes the number one critic of the US just like Macron and others are doing. By the way it was the Europeans that helped to locate and establish the state of Israel right where it is today, not the US. |
Linesafety:Development of Nigeria??... or perhaps you actually meant 'developments in Nigeria'....because there is a world of differ between both. |
bentenny:Agreed. Salah in particular has become as stale as KDB at City before the leap across to Napoli. Both are still potent. Just that things have moved on and they have become relics. Salah needs a new challenge. A Saudi calling perhaps at season end. As for Konate, he is just not Premier league standard. Too slow in thought and act. |
crazygod:Dutch coaches are not known for sound defending from time. Just look at the Dutch league. Their top teams hardly ever keep clean sheets both at home and on the continent. With the half billion dollar summer shopping trip not a single underwear was bought leaving them heavily exposed at the back. |
ReacherSaidNoth:Don't count your chickens just yet. Newcastle is your kryptonite and we know how it may go. Bully, bully, bully all the way home. You guys better play real men versus the black and white and drop all those Scandinavian softies. |
Wow, Glassner is the new kid in the dugout. A masterclass versus Liverpool. The Reds have found a new bogey team with the crumbling of United. Honestly with better finishing Palace could have embarrassed Liverpool with a boat load of goals. |
Na waoh. Today is the day of the big name bum flog started off with United and Real Madrid getting their arses kicked at the Wanda. Just a pity Palace couldn't hold their bottle. But the Ptem chase is cracked a bit open. Good weekend so far. Ps..... Palace has smashed it at the very, very, very end.....what a weekend.....wow. |
United is like the Great Pyramids of Giza. Everyone loves to visit. But are totally irrelevant ro the present. |
Chai see goal. Nearly tore the net with that cannon. Honestly, United is in tatters. Anyway beating them is no longer a big deal. |
As Dangote seeks to monopolize gasoline so Bruno seeks to monopolize penalty takes..... with equally damning results... |
Ttalk:As it is today, the government will only act on what favours them. And by them I mean the most powerful in government individually. People that remove subsidy then go ahead to propose taxing the stuff will have no qualms about how much Dangote may sell his goods tomorrow. |
When Dangote was fighting the unions folks were up in praise for a few naira he removed on the litre. I did say and continue to say on this matter. Our regulators are weak and almost dead. They cannot even monitor gas stations gouging prices and fixing pumps, how will they wrestle this man and his refinery. The courts, including industrial courts will not fight for the common man and against the big dog. It is only the unions that can see unfair practices and challenge this man and his refinery. This is the tactic of the monopolist. Grow big, subdue everyone else and have them in chains. I am a fan of Dangote and laud his great efforts at industrializing this country BUT power without control is extremely dangerous and it is futile to exchange one monopoly, NNPC for another. Just ask what the Euopeans say, and read what they are doing about another global behemoth in Google. |
SouthSouth1914:Why not. Afterall their daddy President is imploring the peons to manage austerity and crushing hardship while he and his band of merry office holders dance away with mansions on exotic locations.... I repeat, why not bold faced feudalism. It is a black thing. |
Zionmdde:Is that not what I have been saying. Nigeria is like a restaurant where you order your familiar rice and stew and they serve you Chinese frog legs or shark.fin soup at exhorbitant cost and force you to eat it. It is only kindergarten, or toddler citizens that are told what or what not to eat. When they grow up and stop pandering to mommy and daddy they become able to tend to their real needs. In the meanwhile they can keep bowing down to their servants. |
[sup][/sup] I really don't know how her life and choices affect you negatively. The relationship you had with her was indirect, through your brother and unfortunately this has ended. And in my opinion your relationship with his child is a lot weaker than that of the child with her mother. Just let it go and position yourself in her stead. If you lost your husband, will you wish for his sister to decide for you..... |
blaise26abj:Absolutely. If this is the only benefit of taxation then I am all in for it. If it will make people wake up and take charge of their government then their pennies will make more development milage. But until then forget it. Because I cannot see what government had promised and failed to deliver that the people have questioned or reacted to. Everyday you are inundated with stories of graft and waste that just cannot make a normal person continue to subscibe to government channels. |
WizardOfNG:Oga. This country had a history of robust taxation before the advent of the oil economy in the 70's. It is not the people that ended it. It is the government. When it found out that it was EASIER collecting money out of JV agreements with oil companies than from citizens and enterprises. When it found out that it was EASIER to hide and divert receipts from oil exports than revenues from citizens and enterprises. That is when the internally generated revenues collapsed. Taxation as a tool for development is a hard thing for crooked governments and corrupt leadership because they know it draws attention and exposes them to scrutiny. They will rather love to 'chop' in silence. This government is only trying to bite the bullet because it has no choice. It has to find the money to feed the appetite of all the lions it has gathered to protect it. And this is where the citizens have missed the train. They are failing to realize that the government is most vulnerable at this point. This is the opportunity they have to stand up and take charge of their economic destinies, to say without equivocation, 'we will only pay if this or that is done', this or that is what we order for and this or that is what we expect to be delivered. Many of us are quick to compare the levels of taxation delivered here with other climes but few even dare compare the depths of accountability and probity those governments deliver in order to sustain compliance. So government should decide by itself whether to be the locomotive of carriage in these internal revenue matters. If it cannot change it will not see the change. PS Just a small example. Earlier this year the FCT government was all over the place about tenament rates and threatening to confiscate properties in order as they say to build the Abuja of our dreams. Fast forward to today. Yes, the infrastructure is being delivered but lately the FCT leadership has been in the news for the very reasons taxation is difficult. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to connect the dots and no matter how dull a people are sooner their pain will make the unsavoury linkages. |
As long as the people don't own the output you will struggle to see their input. If you consider taxation as a basic financial transaction where the public orders for goods and services and pays in advance to a credible vendor that delivers promptly and efficiently, you will have no resistance whatsoever. Governments the world over that struggle with taxation are always associated with waste and corruption and the people no matter how prosperous will not see their hard earmed resources go down the drain. So do your part as government in a self search. Stop stealing to buy mansions abroad. Stop sending your wives to foreign countries for bogus programs, stop wasting scarce resources on white elephants no taxpayer ordered and keep your compensations to middle class standards which is global best practice, then the people will gladly pay like their global counterparts. It is only the dull or mentally challenged that cannot understand this truism. |
It couldn't survival the Nigeria disease. TEC Terminal Economic Cancer. |
dozymars:Wanton tax advocates will not see this. They will tell you how miniscule your effort is at building the country. We have said this endlessly. Nigeria does not have a revenue, an earnings problem. We have a spending problem, a wasteful , malignant, corrupt nature that cannot prosper this country no matter how much government earns. The same government that said subsidies were eroding government finances still borrow wily nily despite the fact that the economy remains in shambles and public service is at an all time low. |
Africa is a feudal fiefdom, no less. The black man is just not capable of building viable, prosperous and enduring societies. The moment he tastes authority, that is the very moment he gets drunk with power. |
Now that these revelations are out in the open and perhaps a lot more coming Mr Wike will have no choice but to further entrench himself in this government that in return will gladly keep those x-files on ice. After all unlike in saner climes where such ugly news constitutes political baggage over here it has become our political tradition to empower the most compromised with authority to keep them loyal. But spare a thought for Mr. President and those claims of an end to corruption in his government just a short while ago. The rolling pebble that started this great avalanche of unsavoury revelations. I just wonder what he is thinking right now. |
The black man is feudal by nature. Can we see how the slave trade was so successful in black Africa. Hundreds of thousands were taken away without any conflict. Theirdescdants are here with us today, many on this forum as spokesmen for people that lead them like cattle to the slaughter. |
Sold every squae inch of my properties there four years ago. One of the best investment decisions ever made. Only speculation can take my eyes that way again and I must have my conscience totally dulled. |
It is Nigerians citizens that should demand, advocate for the independence of institutions particularly one that is so critical as the third arm in the Judiciary. It is the job of the citizen to be that vigilant. If the citizen can take on more responsibility and take away the privileges of the Executive then autocratic rule can be checkmated. I have said several times in the past for instance that the National Assembly should be directly funded by the people just not an issue of first line charge from the treasury but by taxation at constituency levels. Only when Senators and Reps are 'sponsored' by the people to represent them will the task of constituency development be taken seriously. But when the Executive 'pays' them their allegiance will always be to that am of government. |
Bordey:These lithium batteries eh. Saw the video of a fire at a battery factory somewhere in Asia. In a matter of seconds the building was totally engulfed. It took almost a whole day to put it out. In other parts of the world once firefighters know it is lithium related they don't send firefighters into the building. They just let it burn out. |
bigtt76:Contingent indeed. Plenty hangers ons. Paltry output. How many electricians does it take to change a lightbulb joke is on us. |
judewrites:Why did Eze not start. Eze is exactly what TJ is to City. TJ's sleek pass gave Haaland the goal. Eze's pass is what has given Gyokeres one of his best goals so far. Eze's pass is what gave Martinelli Arsenal's face saving goal. What exactly is Arteta's problem. If he cannot use these two players properly to form a formidable partnership he should not ruin their careers. Just quietly return them to Sporting and Palace respectively. |
Truths9ja:Arteta needs big game mentality to win the Premiership. Just as Martinelli has taken up the challenge of new winger signings to raise his game mentality so Arteta needs to be confident in himself that he can beat these big teams. To start with 3 DM's as he did against Pool is cowardly and the big teams see these semi defensive formations and smell fear and attack at will. Also if he is not going to play the striker combo he should just return them to Lisbon and Palace and collect back the money. |
Carl99:Because they play cockroach football. Short, short, 1 metre passes. In training I am sure Arteta has measuring tape. If you make a pass longer than 3 metres, na bench get you. |
Toh, Gunners fans, what is happening.... Is this team actually better than last season's after spending close to 300 million. Because what I can see in both stress tests (Liverpool and City) is no different from last season. Still the same slow, languid midfield build up, the same side to side passing. You bought a striker for close to 100 and no shot on target because no sensible pass to him.... What exactly is the problem. |
