onatisi:That is what I am saying. It is not a party, an association. It is a personal property, enterprise. This is where the African falls flat. He cannot institutionalise anything. He cannot tolerate horizontal relationships. |
Menclothing1:Okay, here you go. If it doesn't belong to one person, it cannot be allowed to work. |
Just the feudal nature of our society. Where else in the world will you see this outside black Africa. It is always king and subjects. The personalisation of institutions or you can say the inability to build them. They say APC belongs to Tinubu, ADC belongs to Atiku. The moulding of who the NDC belongs to is visualized here. |
Regime after regime we keep on talking about surmounting challenges. Challenges we never seem to be able to surmount. The same challenges every time. Yet we go to the polls, vote, rejoice in the election of our choices yet the challenges persist and in most cases worsen...and we feel we are consistently doing the right thing...I just do not understand. How can a people feel they are right when it is clear even to them that they are patently wrong. What is wrong with us. Why can't we simply make this democracy work to better our lives...not as individuals but as a people, a nation. Is right thinking and right action simply beyond the Nigerian. |
dominique:Impossible shoes to fill. Can't see them replicating his success anytime soon. |
Azazyel:When you remove the top two teams who get almost all the Laliga tv revenues the rest of the league is wretchedly poor. Without European cash some will have to one insolvent for long. That is why the best Spanish gaffers ply their trade in Europe. With miniscule budgets there is hardly anything to attract the best players in the world to most of their teams. I mean what Wolves got for being relegated, 118 million pounds was more than the 55 million Barca fot for winning Laliga. The difference is huge. |
dominique:By winning they will get the Europa ticket for next season. But Glasner is something else. Two trophies now and a silver disc for a club not synonyms with trophies. He deserves a statue as the most successful Palace manager in history. Team totally transformed from the days of the steady Roy Hodgson. The difference is as clear as day and night. |
Now it is up to Arsenal on Saturday not to embarrass the English FA and make it an England clean sweep of all four major club trophies after Chelsea, Villa and now Palace. |
See as some are criticizing those that speak up and call out the government that is failing in it's responsibility. Whatever we make of this country, the same it will be. There are just not enough quality citizens to make anything good of Nigeria. The decline will continue, the outrages and inhumanity will expand and the Nigerian will go to his grave in misery having not known a better future. |
Rossychy:You're right. Most Nigerians will get to visit the capital of Nigeria at least once in their lifetimes for one reason or the other. It should have the most open and efficient access. And if it does it will even ease congestion and housing pressure in the city. People can live in border states and commute daily for work and business. If it cannot the city will bloat like Lagos and in decades to come become equally untenable. |
benardtotti:Fantastic idea. |
Rossychy:...catch a bus to the Nation's capital... What kind of network is that. Every state should have a direct rail link to Abuja. Is there any airport in Nigeria that does not have a scheduled flight to Abuja. Haba, let us be a bit more ambitious. There are lowly paid assistants, and servants as well who live amongst the grandiose. |
OredoPikin:There is nothing wrong in planning.. And we don't expect all these projects done in a lifetime because we just donot have the economy to execute them with the rapidity of China. But if the plans and programs are INSTITUTIONALISED, and not PERSONALISED like these fancy new coastal and sahelian highways,.then they will truly belong to the people who will defend them. The key to long term planning and successful execution/realization is ownership by the people. |
Hmmm....sounds nice. Hope it will be pursued with the same vim as the concrete road caper. And states should be mandated to play their parts in urban rail/tram roll-outs. A whole national capital has no urban rail in 2026... |
Errdrop:Not only for roads but the lack of industrialization, industrial capacity has made buildings, accomodation, etc expensive. That is why for me it is industries first. Their demands will.then fuel and pay for the infrastructure they subsidize. If you remove subsidies like we have on fuel and the naira but then depends heavily on imports for your basic infrastructure your economy will remain sluggish. |
Mrexcell:I used to call them literate or illiterate roads in those good old days when comparing Julius Berger roads to other crappy constructs because as a passenger you could conveniently read of book while on a journey. These days the quality of work has so declined you cannot even focus on your phone screen while galloping on them. But true, a layer of asphalt on top on the concrete payment will not only smoothen the ride and save your tyres (concrete roads are notorious tyre eaters) but make them slightly more durable. The downside will be that they will become horrendously expensive. I believe asphalt remains the surface material of choice in all but extremely rocky surfaces, extremely dense clays or packed sand of the South-South and on steep gradients. When done very well asphalt roads can match concrete roads for durability. The Abuja Airport highway is an example. That road is twelve years old and shows no sign or failure. Will last another decade or more before requiring overhaul because it was designed and constructed well with functional drainage. The other twin, the Kubwa expressway on the other hand is newer but shows more wear indicating quality was not prime. It is all about administration and supervision. There are some parts of the Abuja -Lokoja concrete highway that are significantly better done than others and the parts not well done are already having issues. Why this is, I don't know since it is expected that the same Codes should apply to all Contractors handling such works in the country. |
SmartPolician:So you think concrete roads cannot fail or have problems... They last longer but when they do fail the maintenance/repair costs and complexities are many times more. |
udede:I see your point but the truth is that African food has zero aesthetics. Zero visual appeal. Presentation is very poor even in the choicest of settings. That is one of the primary reasons our cuisine has not germinated elsewhere around the world even in cosmopolitan countries of the west where we have large populations. I am happy looks and not sentiment is beginning to appear on the kitchen menus because it has to be eye candy first before the taste buds can be engaged. |
But he is a citizen. He is not running for office. He is like you and me can become any time. The condition of Nigeria, the sorry state of this country is entirely due to the actions of the average Nigerian. The selfish, self centered ideology hardwired into every citizen. |
Despite price rises service quality across board in Nigeria continues to decline. The bad state of the economy is the denominator HSE effect at work. |
Gboss247:This is not global practice. In other climes commercial banks service up and down the food chain from individuals to corporations. It is merchant banks that are primarily dedicated to serve corporations. That aspect has been long lost on Nigeria. If commercial banks do not serve the whole spectrum why do they continue to take deposits and investments from individuals, small businesses and all. Is their business a one way street. Don't normalize the skewed practices of an industry that has been poorly governed and directed over the past two to three decades. Very soon the Micro-banks too will begin to build fences if the government allows them to do as they wish. Kindly revert to the simple definition of a commercial bank and see just how far this country is drifting., being mismanaged. |
Did people of that state, those communities not go to queue up for various political primaries while their children were in captivity. Are they not supposed to besiege government offices and protest endlessly till they get justice. The cause of the decrepit state of this country is entirely down to the citizenry. We totally lack social cohesion, totally lack horizontal relationships. We are inherently selfish. If this happened in the US or Japan or Germany or any decent country the world will know no other news for weeks on end until it is resolved but this country has so deteriorated from the brief angst of the Jonathan Bring Back Our Girls tragedy to complete apathy at an even worse scenario where even toddlers are not spared. And everything goes about as normal. Is this not a failed state. |
NaijaNaWaa:Don't mind them. Instead of running it with the kind of enterprising mindset that will attract investment they are using it as a political plaything. Why not ask Dangote to give holiday discounts and see what he says. |
stan4b:Gen Z press lingo. How about 'Billionaire businessman' for every fellow not a civil servant... ![]() |
Emu4life:Is that not what I said from the onset amongst the endless cheering on both sides of the conflict from their juvenile supporters even in this forum. Everyone has lost across the world. Everyone's pocket has lightened, many economically crushed and needless loss of lives at the core of the conflict. All for what.... |
Did anyone like me glancing at the headlines immediately think security and the capture of bandits around that area. Yours sincerely is beginning to get traumatized by insecurity in Nigeria. |
[quote author=KNOWMORE56 post=139522769]There are figs in Nigeria ever since. Only I may not know what specific species you are talking about. Wild/African figs ("ákpūr" in part of Igbo land) are in many places in my area. See pictures below. And they're edible [/quote Okay, here you go. |
Mariangeles:I see no reason why not. But south if the country, I doubt it be cause judging by where it is popular. The Mediterranean areas and parts of the Mid east I guess it requires plenty of sun, not too much precipitation and a range of temperatures between cold and heat. These characteristics are found in the middle belt at higher elevations, places such as Plateau and Adamawa should be the choice locations. |
A three million naira gratuity and a monthly pension for a successful career fighting and killing the citizens and taxpayers who are required to foot this bill. You cannot make this up. A thoroughly failed state. No taxpayer should accept this. I personally cannot work this hard and pay that much and see it go to these people. IT IS JUST NOT ACCEPTABLE. This is what General/President De Gaulle did and the OAS was formed. The rest is history. How many serving police and military men will look at this and wonder exactly what their sacrifices have been for. |
OgThanos:?'?**?:??"##??,,Bleep.../?.??..... ![]() |
And we are expected to ignore foreign footy for this shambolism...naa |
