Ibrahimcoomasie:What exactly is the money for. What is the government collecting the money to do for the house owner. What tangible thing is money exchanged for. If it a permit, a simple piece of paper. How much does the paper and the ink used to convey the message cost. Anything beyond that is extortion. Anyway it is up to Lagosians. One thing I know is. Give government a tax yard and they will take a tax mile. Isn't it about money. This thing will not stop till the people say, no more. Abuja residents got fed up with VIO harassment and they went to court to send them off the city's streets. People can actually fight back legally. |
Sheuns:It is not about the governor's plan. It is about the peoples demand. Governance is ON DEMAND. That is how it works. If you call customer service and say nothing over the line, nothing will be done. The same thing at Federal level. You say nothing so the fellow goes about building concrete highways to nowhere. Did you ask him to do that so you can elect him into office. Government is a partnership, an enterprise. You are the stakeholder or shareholder They are the operators, the managers. They work in thw interest of the owners of the enterprise. And I repeat again, not doing what the feel like. There were a slew of big budget projects in the UK for many years now notably HS2 and Heathrow 3rd runway. Both were stalked for many years because the people disagreed on everything from cost to the environment. It took extraordinarily effort by government to get HS2 going despite the fact that the people bad demanded for high speed links to open up the north of the country. That of Heathrow 3 has been outrightly rejected because the people could not see the benefits of a bigger airport and the attendant pollution and environmental cost. That is a people actively engaging government on what they want, how they want it, how much they are prepared to pay for it and what they will and will not tolerate. And government dare not do otherwise or they are thrown out. If the Benin people want this problem solved permanently in a year it will be done. |
Frustration you cannot translate to advocacy simply because you have once pandered to sentiments and not looked at governance objectively as one who pays for a service and expects delivery. When citizens of other nations out there put their leaders under severe pressure we often wonder why because all seems to work in those climes. Little do we realise that it is all out of a culture of intolerance and impatience for mediocrity. Since I have become an adult, Benin has always been flooded during the wet season. We are talking about decades without a solution, government after government, elected by the same people that have an annual ritual of lamentation, yet they cannot see the correlation between how they appoint leaders and what they expect from them. You cannot get a leader in 27 years of 5th republic democracy to pledge to solve it and does so indeed. |
Nigerians Just have to start asking questions and start taking charge of their country. Democracy is not about putting someone in power, in office, in appointment and letting him do whatever he wants. Nationals of other democracies take active part in governance. In articulating policy, programs and in our case in formulating budgets. We must share in the responsibility of how government generates, distributes and spends our money so that the priorities are right and value is obtained. It cannot be that we just sit idly to gaze on humongous figures flowing here and there and only a few know what is a really happening. That is not how management/ownership (the people) respond to the way their properties, their investments, their business is run by caretakers (political leadership). |
Ebenezer2021:These are the people I am talking about. You earn N40,000 and somehow you are comfortable. So.... We know where you stand. In some utopia that supports the inflation fanning government and it's shallow policies. But what you don't ask is what the end game is. What is the throughput of all the reforms. Where does it lead. A better experience for Nigerians or the reality of the fact THEY expect you to adapt to a new normal of poverty. They have told you that your former life is a lie and you were artificially richer than you deserve to be. Just take that L of a scam and rest. The money they have taken from your cost of living they are using to give themselves inflated contracts to buy properties abroad and filing their accounts with hard currency. You are there adjusting down and praising them while they are adjusting upwards and living even so called 'softer' lives. Again I ask you, what is the end game. Where do you see yourself, your personal economy in ten years time if this unbridled inflation goes unchecked. How much do you think your salary will be and how much do you think the cost of living, the cost of surviving will have risen to at this rate. If you like sit down and not think out a solution. Be contracting, squeezing, managing and hailing.... You are asking a common man, 'must he buy rice '.Rice oh, common rice. This is how badly the Nigerian citizen has mentally degenerated because of sentiment. |
ejieddy:That is the clear difference. Someone was suggesting xenophobia. No one is hunting them down, killing them or destroying their livelihoods. No one is acting WITHOUT DUE PROCESS here. And that is why these things have to be done by constituted authority, local, grassroots real police under the law. So that the vacumn caused by fear and angst against insecurity does not lead to the lawlessness of mob action. But our communities have to be secure. We have to know each other intoto to even scratch the surface of insecurity. |
Konjiboii:This is the precise reason why we need grassroots policing. Real police right down to the council level so we get to know EVERY SINGLE person living in our communities by name, origin, status and vocation. This country is far too open and lax about security and we are paying the price. It is not xenophobia to know who your neighbour is. It is not mob action to report if you suspect such a person is a non national. It is not hatred to find out exactly what that person does for a living. And if his persona is acceptable and his income proven then it is up to you as a community to integrate such a person and liaise with government to get him or her citizenship. But we just cannot adopt an unconcerned attitude and think criminals will not fall through the cracks. Security starts with intelligence. Knowing is half the job of securing. The reason why the north is in for a long thing on insecurity is due to their decades old attitude of allowing everyone and everything across their borders and into the communities without checks and balances. Now it is impossible to separate the wheat from the chaff. |
owagbeba:Let them prove their citizenship or show their passports and visas. It is a crime in any other country to enter illegally except Nigeria. By the way, what is your own interest. Are you importing them.. |
owagbeba:What do you mean by MIGRANTS. They tell you Nigeria has too many jobs and few takers. Every serious country in the world is clamping down on illegal migration particularly from nations at war, failed economies and fundamentalist peoples and you see no reason to protect your country that cannot cater for its own indigenous population and is racked by violent crime. What kind of citizen are you. Okay, these ones arrested are apparently being paid with MILLIONS in their accounts and violence in their documented history. and still you cannot put one and one together. Can you enter into any other country with unproven millons in your account and firearm photoshoots in your album... |
Apcshit:So where are their passports and entry visas. Anything else is not innocence. Trump is doing it. South Africans are doing it. It is time Nigeria starts to question EVERY man walking the streets. This country can no longer operate open borders. |
When are Nigerians going to be 'xenophobic" about the 'immigrants' from the Futa Jallon and chase them out of our forests and back to their Jihadi movements in the Sahel. Telling them that their election contracts are over. |
Just determined to kill himself. Just sorry for his family. Said it on this forum that he should call it quits the day he collapsed and was a whisker from death. No RIP"s to give oh.... 'You only Live Twice', Mr. Eriksen. |
Corruption top to bottom. From leaders who give friends and family billion naira contracts without due process to the foot soldiers on the streets extorting the public, th system is just rotten. And the decay are the cracks through which criminality seeps into society. You talk of everything from guns to fake security personnel uniforms. Someone somewhere has sold out this country for thirty pieces of silver. |
socialmediaman:They believed the hype, now the demystification is in full steam. They are shocked to the marrow that things could degenerate so badly. Alas they are too far down the walk of shame to turn back. That is why the typical fundamentalist supporter has resorted to primordial instincts of tribe, section and religion. Performance based arguments have vaporized for a year and a half now. |
[/quote/] author=Topnotch95 post=139640250][/quote/] They are all failed citizens. Nothing to say about them. Even animals will cry when they are caged and not fed. If the government cannot care for it's people then they should let us be, free us please. |
Richtaiwo:If it is this type of politics that has taken Nigeria multiple steps backwards since 1960....please, may they not learn it.... kai. If you are advertising a product, make sure you can actually sell it. Your kind of politics can never be attractive to a half decent person with any iota of humanity. I keep in asking this simple question. This is 27 years of this dispensation democracy. If all you folks have been doing since 1999, all the construction, engineering, so called political sagacity is in order, why is the product so bad. Everyday your so called experts come out to 'shalaye', no workings, no result, just hope, hope, hope, hope, I will, we will... |
You will vote for a President BECAUSE OF A ROAD.....ROAD.... |
Eniitankorede:Yeah, just as Brazilians are Portuguese, Chileans are Spanish and Nigerians are English... It leaves a sweet taste to the mouth. I wonder what will be if the Germans photoshoot with the Swastika or the Japanese with the Rising Sun....oh this was just 80 years ago. It's still raw. That of the Vikings was 1,000 years ago, has cooled substantially and morphed into Hollywood. |
Funny how history can be transformed from something so dark to fairy tales in the distant future. I mean. These folks were the ancient Mongols, Babylonians, Conquistadors, Romans, Nazis, Dai Nippon...of the far north. The fought, maimed, raped, pillaged, terrorized and conquered their way across much of northern Europe establishing a vast territorial empire. Today they are in movies, literature and even as posers for football teams...funny world. Perhaps in another ten thousand years after the Futa Jallon jihadists will have long violently conquered all of West Africa, they will appear in costume at some public pageantry promoting 'ancient culture'. Funny world. |
Better. Chelsea does nothing for the development and career advancement of their players. Very, very few leave that club with a better valuation than when they arrived. |
Dshocker:Kai... doesn't look healthy at all. And you know the best doctors have left the country. |
iwaeda:It is not as if this leadership or this President cannot do better. It is just there is no incentive for him to do so and no background, no history of the kind of political pressure that makes for good governance. He is not trained in the school of political dynamics to perform. All the years he has been in active 5th Republic politics it has all been about acquiring power through patronage not performance. And when you rise that way you tend to ignore the hardwork of learning how to govern well. I am sure it has come as a rude shock to him the level of anger in the land. He is not used to it, after unbroken years of 'hailing'. It is a vulnerable place to be. If by any remote chance he is voted out, spends a season on the sidelines and is opportuned to return again like a Donald Trump of the US, one may likely see a far better performance. But for now, he is completely out of touch with the country and the polity. |
Please just nicely prepared vegetable or bitterleaf soup and grilled kippers.... That's what I want but without the so called 'swallow' aka fat and fluffy or 'continue and you'll be seeing the doctor soon'.... naa... |
Please a very public trial to prove their guilt and a very public execution in such a manner that will leave no criminal out there in any doubt that the State is outraged and enraged with insecurity. No iffs, no butts. They must pay the ultimate price. |
Hmmm... Nigeria should brace for impact. Abeg where is that my friend working at NSCDC. |
Thought this forum was against publishing indecent images. Remove this rubbish please. |
KosiGee:Right there in town on a dualised highway. So funny. Was the driver drunk or what. |
Very old news. But the picture is bad. Is this the best Rivers State can do for their prime team. What kind of shabby looking bus is that... ![]() What is wrong in contracting a transporter all season long with a proper, clean looking, branded coach and a professional driver. |
War is a terrible experience. No winners. Only suffering. For an ideal that can be achieved in a thousand other ways. Mankind never learns. |
Bluna:That is not even the worst. They are demanding for LAWS to be made/amended. That is truly frightening. Laws and agendas go hand in glove. This is beyond kidnapping for profit. This is violent abduction for restructuring, for control, to gain equal power with government. This are the seeds of sedition. |
Deo1986:Hunger they created by not touching inflation. When last did you hear from the CBN Head. He has given up having seen the futility of his mandate or has been asked not to talk anymore. The weaponization of poverty that the Nigerian citizen has accepted and embraced. |
helinues:When you think you have seen 'bad enough'....boom, you see even worse. Are these people saying, if somehow they get into power they will settle the Nigeria question in his parlour. Just sitting here and thinking if Barrister Obama the candidate will have ever found himself standing like that in the parlour of some Democratic Party leader like a school boy before the Headmaster... Or Trump standing before....who the hell...to explain how he intended to make America great again.... Exactly what is wrong with us in this country...kai... |
