I will hazard a suggestion to the NERC for a slight restructuring in the way electricity is metered and tariffs collected. Can it compel DISCO's to lease out sectors covered by feeders to agents to collect dues. Just as my strong advocacy for policing at the grassroots level due to knowledge, depth and detail, electricity distributors are better off monitoring electricity consumption through the thousands of feeders rather than the millions of individual meters owned by consumers. A couple of years ago the DISCO installed a meter at the feeder supplying the estate where I live and after months of investigation realized a number of reside TA were stealing electricity. This lead to a months long painstaking and in my opinion resource draining house to house check that caught some culprits. But from then on the estate management was out on notice that further theft will result in a total supply disruption. Today it is he estate management that is on its toes to going from house to house on an impromptu but regular basis and I understand theft is down many folds. DISCOS will certainly afford the technology and logistics to better mo it or feeders alone so why not just meter them and then appoint agents to collect the dues. Where collection doesn't add up to consumption then it is easier to investigate and appropriate sanctions meted out. My two cents. |
blackmantis:Those ones are not inerested in good governance. They just want to get in to waddle in the same muck and enjoy their own fill of lucre. So disappointing. |
I thought some people were saying what he did was totally above board and that the information was open sourced. So why is the police investigating if there is no suspicion of a crime having been committed. Can someone recall the posts and positions of the A-list defenders of this man and his works on this forum and let us see if they too warrant a summer holiday visit to Force Hq. |
Edetaffiong88:With criminals operating drones to enhance their dastardly operations does this not leave for open speculation that government is indirectly abetting this mess. Honestly people should be outraged at certain things happening in this country and demand for heads to roll. But they just sit idly by. Tied up by ignorance and sentiment and haplessly seek for help from above concerning things they should naturally do. In certain climes everyone related to the loss of such highly sensitive security systems in such an unaccountable manner will be rounded up and tortured till they talk and the guilty summarily executed. We are not serious in this country. |
Of course they are 'not interested'. They cannot see the linkages between corruption and maladministration and the metastatic cancer eating away at the security of the country and his state. When they say actions have results and consequences some folks will get angry but a nation that cannot look wholistically at the illness besetting it but chooses to treat only the symptoms is merely kicking the can down the road. We said tackle policy induced inflation FIRST before it creates a tidal wave of poverty induced criminality ibound to be unleash on society. They said it doesn't matter, that Nigerians will adjust. They are resilient. That is the kind of 'completely out of touch' state, the absolute denial state the leadership of this country operates in. They cannot make the mental linkages between poverty and crime just as this governor cannot make the linkages between corruption, maladministration and crime. He should buy new drones and at the same time go after whosoever is behind the loss. Find out if the drones were purchased and exactly who those drones are serving. And if they were not bought or stolen, people should go to jail for a long time in consideration of the lives lost and the destruction to property and livelihoods resulting. Enough is enough. |
Is there ANYBODY in this AOC that can stand up and tell this President that he is NOT DOING WELL. I continue to say this. If you are a party member just as a family member and cannot tell your parents or your siblings or your children THE TRUTH. Then your relationship is questionable. This should be the first time in the 5th Republic a President is governing this country surrounded by a 100 percent 'yes men'. It is not seen or done anywhere in the democratic world. As intolerant as Donald Trump is, many Republicans are and have disagreed with him behind closed doors and openly. Every single policy pronouncement of his has met with a degree of internal dissent within his party from his budget, to immigration, to foreign policy, to tariffs, to law and justice and every single major policy drive has met with either a sacking due to disagreements or voluntary resignations. That is a proper democracy at work. Because no leader knows it all or can do it all or can see it all from every angle. But to have a ruling party where not a single person can see anything differently and the President is driving the country off a cliff edge is just unimaginable. And to make matters worse e en is miserly, belated wake up calls of the opposition are even shouted down by the people who should be telling their beloved that his hair is not combed or his fly is not zipped, haba. Truly the PDP era was a completely different story with OBJ, Yaradua and GEJ coming up against some hard truths but in hindsight making their tenures look today a lot, lot better. The APC should wake up and take democracy seriously. |
Kolocqua:So what are you saying. That no one else in this country has better ideas on how to govern it successfully.... What kind of failed thinking is this. Then on what basis was this government elected. Is it not with a promise to be better. Let us not kid ourselves. The purpose of government is clear. The purpose of democracy is clear. The purpose of politics is clear. Those three legs are what modern societies are built on. That you cannot make a success of yours is your business and has nothing to do with leaders in other nations who can and their citizens who hold them to exacting standards of competence and integrity. The talk of not politicizing security is the most irresponsible and unpatriotic statement to make in nation building. It is to completely evade one's responsibility and detach oneself from the reality of the choices made by both leadership and followership. It is like impregnating a young girl after making all sorts of promises of wedlock and a good life together only to deny responsibility when the reality descends. You cannot put your feet forward, make all sorts of promises, get elected on that basis, enjoy the power and perks, fail in your responsibilities and then turn round to gaslight the people with that kind of stupid statement of, 'don't politicize insecurity'. If you are capable of 'playing politics' to your benefit you will be judged by how well you play it, period. You vote people in for all the wrong reasons, and because of that you cheapen yourselves to such an extent you cannot hold them to account and because they know you can't they rule you anyhow. Instead of being sober about this sad reality you want to rope in the entire nation into an association of failures...so annoying. |
Jorussia:í Apt. It is all about responsibility. Hold him who is empowered by law to act responsible. If a crime is committed in a local government I see no business of the President there when there is a long line of responsibility. But they can only be responsible if they have authority. Empower them with the authority of state and local government police and free yourself of responsibility for every farm raided by herdsmen, every man abducted from his home or every house attacked by robbers. It is not rocket science. You are a Commander in Chief of the Armed forces not the police. That is how it happens in decent societies. |
That is about 33 naira per day or One and a half naira per hour for a population of 200 million. Ridiculously poor. |
louqas:Yes, Israel has considerable influence over both the Democrats and the Republicans but this is highly disproportionate. The Democratic support for Israel is largely along the lines of the Jewish identity, cultural and religious. There are a lot of Jews that identify with the Democratic party, bldescendants of immigrants from conflicts in Europe that settled on the Eastern flank (traditional democratic states) of the US all those years ago. The Republican support is all that plus the considerable Christian Conservative bloc that dominates middle America. The bloc that is the backbone of the Trump administration. The bloc that the Vice President represents. Their support for Israel is moderated by their desire to see America out of foreign wars. This is the quandary that Trump is severely testing and if this war drags on Israel risks losing the edge a US Republican government brings. |
Well, my interpretation of the end times is that Israel will be abandoned to it's fate and face all it's adversaries completely alone. And with the way their leaders are going about things this is exactly the scenario they are creating for themselves with their zero sum push. Trump said it all. They are losing their allies one after the other and 'hate' for that state is growing exponentially. The only reason why they are not completely surrounded by their Arab neighbors is the Iranian adversity. For as long as the Persian empire remains a threat to them they will tolerate the culling offered by the Jewish state. The day this dynamic no longer applies is probably the day this world will have lit the fuse to it's end. |
damble:This is the failure of the African, the Nigerian. He cannot and will not build institutions. We have spoken endlessly about State and local government police. They say no. That governors (and perhaps council leaders) will hijack them for personal purposes. That is, institutions that are created by law of which operatives swear to uphold the Constitution. They are afraid of those. But they are confident in vigilante groups that are not lawful, are not trained, are not institutionalized, without fealty and will be commanded by an individual with a storied history. And we call ourselves civilized, intellectual and progressive.... I will just ask this simple question. On the decade and a half of a proliferation of vigilante groups all over the place including the much vaunted Amotekun, what has been the result. Is security improving or not. Why don't we think that the 'game', not the 'players' is the problem. |
MarketDispatch:That is the real politicizing of security that Nigerians often speak about but condone from their leadership by saying things like, 'it is his RIGHT to appoint whosoever he wants...' When sectional or ethnic or parochial considerations are placed ahead of professionalism and established institutional structures a nation simply undermines itself. Oh the present IGP was in Lagos and is known by the President to have handled the state well... Good, but did Lagos have insurgencies, herdsmenace, banditry, etc. No. Lagos has never had such interactions, Lagos is not rural. There are no large forests in Lagos where criminals hide. So what competencies and experience will a former Lagos police person bring, none. And the same thing cuts across all the divisions that constitute the security services. Every four to eight years they are torn apart by new administrations, constantly destabilized, gutted for politics sake and purged of the most experiences hands. How can a nation survive this. We can clearly see the problem but cannot summon the courage and make the sacrifices to save ourselves. So Pastor Adeboye is mistaken. The incompetence of the security services is not individual. It is institutional. It is Nigeria problem. |
Wike and Fubara all over again. Why can't we just get along. |

Is it not the China Nigerians are all blabbing about as the champions of the 'New World Order'. What is the difference between what they are doing in 2026 Nigeria as compared to what Belgium was doing in the Congo 100 years ago or what Spain did in the Americas 500 years ago. They are all the same. Exploit the weak, ignorant, divided and greedy. Make them eat their own flesh and drink their own blood while they make away with choice booty. Chinese Premier Xi will be aware of all this but will say nothing and do nothing as a 21st century imperialist. History is always repeating itself. As they say same ol, same ol. |
So, there is a certain class of people who can and cannot lead. He has not seen people literally rise out of the dusty streets, the back waters to become great leaders of their time and iconic nations builders. Of course he cannot see, has not read, will not understand anything beyond his feudal mindset, the millstone on the neck of the Negro, the weight that cannot let him move forward in nationhood. To them leadership is all about money, power and vain glory. Service to them is not on their radar. If not how many servants do you see as landlords in a typical third world, poverty stricken country such as ours. The long suffering people of that state had better look for someone that LOOKS like them. This one is a lost soul. He cannot do anything for the people. |
That is pure, unadulterated feudalism for you. I hope anyone who thinks this is a democracy now understands what this country has put it's hands into. Elections indeed so have severe consequences. No doubt the vast majority of Nigerians today wished they could turn back the hands of time and return to a time they decided who governed them and who dis not. 2015 will go down in history as probably the beginning of the end of this Republic the way things are going. |
Kushites:But your beloved President thought/thinks otherwise. And except you live under a rock his famous posts on social media criticizing the past government has been reposted like a gazillion times on this forum alone. So you are very much on your own. Speaking about former President Jonathan, Mr. Tinubu wrote and I quote: 'The bulk(buck) stops...' These criticisms together with those associated with corruption, mismanagement and political schisms (north- south rule) effectively ended his presidency. Twelve years later the problem of security has metastisized to the extent toddlers are captured and tortured on live tv and you want to change the narrative... Excuse me, are you serious...or just heinous. As you are this bold, don't hide here. Go tell this to the families. Print a banner saying this about your beloved Tinubu and crime in America and stroll through that community holding it high and proud..... |
fedorahat:Here they are. 'Don't politicize insecurity'... except if you are a Jagaban in opposition. 'Don't politicize insecurity''...but Mr. President has a right to appoint whosoever he likes to head the security services without consideration for merit and by so doing retiring others who may perhaps be better. 'Don't politicize insecurity'... But the only vehicle your folks could find (in the whole of Oyo state) to pay a sympathy/solidarity visit to the victims and community affected just happened to be APC Mobile 1, wrapped in all the livery of nauseating politics. It is only the APC folks permitted to 'play politics' on the biggest stage. Every other person in Nigeria must shudder and shiver in the back alleys. Feudalism at its best. |
I count mine in seconds not minutes. I love my egg yolk mushy. |
flexyrule:This is the summary of the struggle between the forces of feudalism and a people that struggle to establish horizontal relationships. The battle to kidnap Mr. Davido from the comfort of his status at the slightest sign that he is non aligned is on. The people want a king to lead them against the establishment and they will not take disloyalty in any shape or form. They demand absolute fealty. But Mr. Davido has but ONE VOTE. ONE, ONE ONE. VOTE. He alone cannot make or break the election for or against anyone. When will the people stop looking for a king and understand that democracy is about THE PEOPLE not THE SUPERSTAR, not the ENTERTAINER, not the CELEBRITY, the people. If the people are ready and willing to chart the course if their future through the ballot they should stand up and do just that inspite of that young man. Leave him alone. I doubt if he will vote for this government in any way, shape or form but I am not that certain about the critics tearing him apart who will readily do so for a morsel. |
naptu2:People will not fund parties as long as they remain u serious and unstable. If they wish to donate because of individuals they admire, what happens when such Individuals jump ship at the slightest opportunity. Of they support parties based on ideologies, where do they exist in the Nigerian polity. Just as with investment in economics, investment in politics will continue to be left with those who wish a financial return through inordinate means not by the public who desire a change in their lives. |
What does the average Riverian or Nigerian benefit from this government. Anyone appointed by this government is free to vote for him but until he can 'appoint' every member of the state, then people will vote according to what they experience, period. It is an insulting, feudal call. That some are doomed to 'suffer and support' so that other who they don't know can continue to 'enjoy', when all men are born equal. As for Federal projects, I am certain the people will be able to get other leaders who will deliver whatever they need. Roads and flyovers are not the exclusive preserve of any one person. Anybody can do them. |
2 ibedun:And who is responsible for creating national wealth, national leadership. Just as the father is responsible for lifting the family, just as the governor is responsible for lifting the state, just as the CEO is responsible for the fortunes of the company. The quality of leadership matters. That we have been dependent on 1.8 million barrels of oil since time immemorial simply shows we have not had qualitative leadership. Agreed that is entirely our fault. We are poor because of our poor quality leadership choices. |
Guys am off. Seen enough. Both teams deserve the Cup. Best teams in Europe this season. |
Thought Mosquera could last till 75. Just hope Timber is fully fit and switched on after months out. |
How Arsenal will respond to this setback will define this match. |
Tunni:He kicked through him. |
It was coming. Said they lost control of the midfield. Arteta's fault. He could see the pressure mounting. |
