geoworldedu:Same as Jose Mourinho's Benfica. It goes squarely against the laws of football. But it happens. |
XTruth:So why not trade with China and forget the US. Why are you upset the US did want to protect it's own economy from exploitation. The US is this, the US is that but they cannot stay away. |
tpain121:They are typical Nigerians. They don't think far. Just believing anything they hear transmitted through their propaganda network. Whether it costs 10,000 per litre this government is not concerned. It is the citizens that pay government officials to junket all over the place. It is the citizens that fuel the Presidential jet. They cannot think that as inflation rises they are getting poorer by the minute. This rise in airfares will affect everyone whether you fly or not. And the knock on effect is that goods and services will become even more expensive. We said so about the domino effect of not fighting inflation early and aggressively before it takes total hold of the economy. The cancer is not at stage 2 abi 3. |
Kenn55:They will compromise, you can be sure of that. When an economy tanks HSE standards fall as well. Just look around or drive around health standards are falling in hospitals, in homes, substandard medications and consumables everywhere. Safety standards as well as cost of maintenance escalates folks are no longer servicing equipment regularly, proliferation of used parts... And the environment. Just look around, refuse in major cities are at an all time high, streetlight, rail tracks, bridge railings, everything is vandalized... Of course the airlines will be cutting corners and tipping off to turn a blind eye. Are the regulators not poorly paid civil servants. |
What really amazes me in this Rivers matter is the whole generation of potential leaders with alternative ideas on governance that will never stand a chance because of this godfatherism disease ravaging the political-scape. Quality, capable hands that the state will now never have a chance at experiencing their leadership. Isn't the average Rivets state citizen not tired of eating the same meal served by Wike and his band. The beauty of democracy lies in maximizing the opportunities for development by tapping into as many ways and means of governance. And any society that cannot do it indeed runs the risk of stunted socio-economic and socio political growth. You can imagine how the state will have become if former governor Odilli for instance had held onto and teleguided successive governments. How about Amaechi. They have all served and given way to new ideas, new ways and new visions. Now all that is lost. And perhaps until the demise of the dictator, Rivers may continue to dwell in the image of it's strongman for better or worse, for years to come. |
Borrow2222:It is easy. Just stack a few dollars and keep on devaluing the naira. If care is not taken a billion naira may become the minimum wage the way we are sp ending recklessly without a productive foundation. Then everyone will become a billionaire.... ![]() |
Mirasteel:And it cuts both ways. It is the downtrodden foreigners that are mainly victims of the savage attacks. Meaning that we should get our country working to lift the economic status of the average citizen so he travels abroad to play with the right peers. |
The views on this matter above are just terrible. You don't prove you are bigger by belittling yourself. Granted our foreign clout has been severely diminished by poor governance over the near decades but wherever we are opportuned to project power we should without reservation. Take an example off the diplomatic pages of your favourite frenemy, the United States. They will get into bed with just about ANYONE as long as they are able to project power and influence to fund their massive economic machine. We need this industrialist to bring in the bacon. That is his job. Let us hold government to account concerning the human angle and the sad things happening to foreigners in that country. We are bigger than this. |
I don't expect him to still be a policeman by the end of this week. |
This is a no brainier. You know your country's infrastructure. You know your country's economic stability. You know your fellow citizens. Stick with what you know. |
dre11:"I live within my means...." Me nodding slowly in agreement. That is what we want from our country too. That is what we expect from leadership. A national, patriotic quest, a thirst for this country TO LIVE WITHIN ITS MEANS. Meaning it values it's resources and accounts for every penny earned like you and I do. Meaning it looks at every penny spent with utmost scrutiny to ensure it gets optimum value, that nothing is wasted. So just as we are vexed when our money is stolen and we are alarmed when we see the interest we have to pay on credit we take so we should look at our country like we look at ourselves and implore leadership to be just as prudent and circumspect in the way it handles our collective finances particularly when it comes to credit. |
There is nothing to learn from crass politicking that suppresses the people's will, weakens their resolve to be independently minded and seeks to build unending influence through autocratic rule. It is my sincere hope that this kind of politics will not be learnt by anyone present and particularly the generation of politicians to come. We want a new generation that respects the people's will and puts performance as the only yardstick for their rule or not. If there is any politician in this dispensation that should be emulated it should be Goodluck Jonathan. Serve, make the polity better and leave with no desire for succession by any way and means. Even his former Vice has all but disappeared from politics. That is what a growing democracy needs. Mr Tinubu should govern all he wants to govern and then retire, disappear and await his legacy report down the line. |
Cutezt:The only way in a democracy to bring pressure to bear for a change of experience is through the ballot in season and a threat to unseat those in power out of the electoral cycle. There is just no other way. I have said it continually. If citizens continue to cheapen themselves they will receive no service, no good governance at all. The total conquest of almost all executive power from local government to state governments across Nigeria has meant that the hard work of good governance has been exchanged with cheap power from the so called "loyalty". If the President says today, "go to hell, I will do nothing about the situation".... What are you as a people going to do....nothing. Let us learn from this. DONOT ACCORD POLITICIANS CHEAP POWER, LET THEM WORK FOR THE POWER THEY ENJOY. DONOT sell yourseives cheap. Make your leaders badly need your mandate, so badly that will ask you for what you want and solve your pressing problems. |
He just got to practice democracy, that is to engage and entreat and consult and depend on the people as at the very end of his political sojourn. He just got to the nuance of democracy that it is about the people and for the people. So the next question is. What has he been practicing for the past 12 years.... the answer lies in inferring the OP's posit. - He cared little about the people. - He worked against their interests. - He barely tolerated them.... Why. Because his power, his authority did not come from them. It cam from above. He was perfectly vertically integrated. But once that link was cut he realized too late the need for horizontal stability. The lesson is evident to all. There is a clear line, a clear distinction between the 'ruling class' and the people, a clear master-servant relationship that is called democracy in those parts. And like I said yesterday, the incumbent should be as wary as whoever Wike installs as next Rivers governor. You simply will not be allowed to become popular by serving the people rightly. If you do they (and you know them) will see you as a threat to their hegemony and you will be removed so as to preserve the laws of power. |
NewHe:'...They should be good party men...'...hmmm The fact that you pat your dog on the head and it wags it's tail shouldn't give you the confidence that every dog on the streets is approachable. They unceremoniously betrayed their party and dumped it for yours and you expect them to be loyal tail wagging dogs in yours.... |
KIDfurniture:Told you it is a feudal system. What other evidence do you guys need that democracy is not working in this country. When Nigerians wake up to start DECIDING for themselves this political class will either away. But as long as knowledge of how democracy works to build societies remains dark, the likes of Mr. Fayose's sons and his son's after him will rule without question. |
Shikena:Four out of those six have Spanish gaffers. That says a freaking lot. |
Emery has taken this Villa team from midtable mediocrity to a steady Champions League participant and now onto European glory. Simply outstanding. Yet another SSS: Spanish Soccer Sorcerer. The Spanish Armada is definitely ruling the soccer seas. |
MrEar:Yes, it did happen in this country. Was all over social media. |
TempleHouse:There is no impact anyone can make in a teleguided political scenario such as us Lagos. He has been acting a political movie (no pun intended) for three terms now, the script being written in the studios of the Godfather of Lagos politics. Do you think if he was performing and growing in popularity he will have been let loose for three terms. No. One law of power is that you cannot outshine your master. In a feudal system this is a cardinal sin and is punishable in the former Soviet union by death. Your seat at the regular politburo meeting will not be there when you arrive and you have to exit the room through a special door where KGB agents will be eating to strangle you to death. Like some said he got there through the feudal system and has been killed through it. Same fate awaits the present head that wears the crown. She will be used and when her time is up, abused. Nothing beats democracy if you want unfettered performance. They say Fasola was arguably the best performer on that seat since 1999. Why is his political DNA not the standard bearer for Lagos, why someone else. |
Whatever their differences they are all rodents and are carriers of some of history's most devastating vectors. Just steer clear of them. Raise your own birds and livestock for meat. Leave these things alone pls. |
jaxxy:Indeed. There are a lot of non Arsenal fans that are just happy for that club just because of what they have gone through for so long. And that is just the spirit of sportsmanship. |
Whenever Nigeria decides to end this 'contracting' culture, these terrible losses will end with it. Yes, he may will be put away for a long time. (that is, if some new leader does not give him amnesty or pardon in exchange for political capital) But the time value of the resources lost cannot be quantified if the money wasn't stolen in the first place. That 22 billion or so will probably be worth fifty, maybe a hundred or even half a trillion naira investment today. That I'm afraid, can never be recovered and that is how Nigeria has remained under developed. One step forward, two steps back. Let us consider draining the swamp instead of the futility of fighting bugs with a can of insecticide. Let us change the way government conducts its business of service delivery. |
So happy for them. Happy for the Premier league. Best league in the world by a country mile. But give it to Spain. They own soccer these days, top to bottom. |
EmptyGarden:Well, do you know what is on the other side that made for this situation. Now that the rains are here, if you are doing some country or urban off-roading, ensure you have a good set of mud chains for your tyres. |
Go hire four dollies for each wheel, slip in fender protection mats between the car and those pillars and you can make the delicate movements to free the vehicle. Your insurer will thank you for it and probably give you free tickets to watch Arsenal play the Champions league finals. |
Africans will not stop hunting and eating wildlife. And this will be end of our civilization if we do not stop. Plant your crops and raise your animals in a controlled environment for food. |
Congratulations to the gunner, the new champions and a breath of fresh air to the EPL. Proves one thing in life. The harder you try and the nearer you come, one day you will get there. All shows that consistent improvements, no matter how small eventually leads to success. |
Biggest match in the Premiership this season. The equation is simple. Win or it is all lost. |
On the beach the wind constantly blows day and night. Lagos has a long coastline, ripe for the deployment of offshore wind turbines. Can't they give that a go. |
The guy in the picture with the opened manhole cover should be well kitted. His legs are exposed with the mind of footwear that offers no structural or bio-hazardous protection. Don't they do safety briefs. |
