motymop:You don't get it. No one is saying vote this person or that person in. That is only ONE SIDE of democracy. The more critical side, the side that makes democracy different from military rule, an autocracy, a monarchy, etc is your ability to VOTE PEOPLE OUT. Folks fail to understand this important part. That democracy works where those in authority FEAR BEING REMOVED. And this is the tool citizens use to extract good governance. The threat of a sack. And any government that can succeed in resisting this threat by any means will generally misrule because power intoxicates. It is not the law written on paper that stops crime. It is the threat of sanctions, of arrest, of jail. If Nigeria was arresting and successfully jailing the corrupt, the prisons will be filled with them, not our government offices. So my dear, 'vote wisely' is not a slogan to elect any particular person. It is a soul call to consider your civic responsibility in not tolerating misgovernance and a call for your preparedness to act if the government refuses to up it's game. I often ask this question of those who support this government vociferously. Where lies your influence over the government in the face of your neighbor you see suffering so much neglect. As party men you should be able to reach them easy and direct them aright. It is a political party of which you chose the leadership so why can't you influence them. |
Ah, ah, what sort of question is this. Of course they go berserk because their voting has no correlation whatsoever to their experiences under governance. After the previous 8 years of misrule you still thumbprint for another 8 years under the same set of people and principles.... If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, come 2031 it will be laying duck eggs. I will even go further to hazard a guess that it might be some mental deformity, some abnormality, some missing wires in the cranium to look at 2015 where we said no more, and then to go downhill from there and they still insist on digging... |
All because your government doesn't want you to have guns but cannot get the guns away from the outlaws. All because your government doesn't want you to police yourselves, secure yourselves but cannot provide you security. Fine, elections are coming soon. Let us see just how badly you desire to return home by tackling one of the two options above. |
Do people still do these things. I mean, hand over money without security, without insurance, without a legal means of recovery for purposes they have no idea about. With the way Nigerians are committing crimes abroad, what if she is involved in high crimes. You can be labeled a sponsor, an enabler, a financier of whatever.... drugs, gun running, terrorism, people smuggling.... that can mean you in jail for things you had no idea about. Get your name on Interpol's watchlist and you will never travel abroad again. We should be careful. There are tons of investment corporations out there all over the world. Don't end your life or ruin your finances because of a bogus sheet of paper, a pretty face and some cock and bull story. |
oweniwe:You don't need a refinery there. Rehabilitate the web of pipelines running round the country and you can move products anywhere. But if you distrust Nigerians with their penchant for puncturing them and stealing products, build a rail network to serve all the state capitals with spurs to the refineries. Let Kaduna focus on the energy resources it has and how it can exploit them to profit the economy. There is life beyond oil and gas and even the Arabs are slowly moving away from it. |
elpochas:Exactly. We are different in nature and nurture. That is why man doesn't live the same exact number of years on earth. Some are born with longevity in the DNA while others have to be delicately managed to live even half that lifespan. And while there are general rules for elongating your life, there is no one case fits all. You have to know your body, know your history as soon as you come of age and tailor your life accordingly. Anything you assume is a loophole. |
neonly:On the contrary. Probably knows he has heart issues but is self administering solutions of which 'keeping fit' he thinks is 'his' solution. There are folks out there that know (some don't) they have heart related issues but refuse to go for check ups, deep dives into their systems to know the exact state of things but make assumptions that 'exercise' is the silver bullet to heart health whereas he may be born with a defect or his DNA leads him down that path or his organ is so badly damaged and needs repair or replacement before exertion. Adults should make a duty of finding out in good time about their bodies in a nutshell. What is not working well and from their family history, what part is likely going to need attention. |
You can bet he either had a change of clothes or a huge bottle of cologne tucked away in his armoured SUV just waiting round the corner. Can he afford to leave that place smelling like a burnt offering.... ![]() |
ubmech:Indeed. Science has gone beyond all these. This is 2026 and the couple should be aware of the solutions out there before embarking on the relationship. There are solutions to make their union a success. |
Hedonisco:You guys just love your feudalism. Must someone be 'small' so that you can be 'big'. Must it always be a master-servant relationship. Democracy is a process of selecting leadership from amongst contemporaries, first amongst equals. Biden was older in age, older in politics, older in public service than Barack, yet became Vice to him. Same with Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson and many more round the world of politics and governance. Here feudalism will not let us grow. I once saw a ridiculous billboard depicting individuals seeking public office while driving through Kogi state a year ago, and it resembled the Snellen chart used for eye tests. There were about half a dozen or more figures of political office holders. The President was the largest figure, followed by the governor, then the Senator and on it went until the councillor's image that was so tiny you couldn't make out who he was from afar. This country eh. If not that there are hundreds of tribes in this geo-political space, we are better off being a monarchy the way we think. |
seyi4mesamuel:What if after having the "three" children your neighbor wakes up one good election morning and decides to vote in a much worse government than this....what do you do.....or you think the economy cannot get much, much worse than this... I guess the face of the leader you fear should be plastered on the walls of 'za oda room', so that anytime you want to procreate, one glance at it and you get an instant shot of contraceptive.... ![]() |
Access to knowledge. It costs money to know things. And more money to understand the things you know. Without resources you are bound to be impressed upon by your immediate environment and reproduce what you see as normal. |
And I hope Mr. Peter Obi will return the gesture the next time around in 2031 irrespective of the outcome of this venture. Still do not think the so called rotation is doing us any good. Affirmative action should always be on a clock. A clock that should have given each geo zone a term, that is 6 zones x 4 years and then that is it, the whole system scrapped. This so called rotation has essentially been between the northwest and the southwest. With only three states, Ogun, Katsina and Lagos standing for office by this structure. How can that be said to be fair. It should be tossed in the can. |
ppogba:. ...ssssshhhhh, no talk too loud. There must be a Father Christmas in the Premiership every season and United has not applied for leave yet.... |
bluefilm:By then I hope he will not be giving out visas for tourists to visit his safari to hunt wild animals living in it.... ![]() |
Before you do this, the woman needs to place a premium on what you do for a living, how you earn that money. She has to understand the source and the process and what it takes out of you as a person before she can get to that level of success. Same applies the other way if the man is to make a success of managing the career path of his wife. This is a relationship IN DEED, in action, in application. Not just one of mere words and expressions. |
Every single political office holder appears to have a house in Maitama where houses cost gazillions to own or lease. That is the subculture that starts the grand theft. And that is where the anti craft authorities can start their search for who did what. Go to the registry, list out every single property owner resident there and give them two weeks to explain how they acquired them. |
If there is something like an African cut I cannot see it here. Looks very contemporary to me, what you see in the West. A few differences in the fabrics, but that's all. |
Britishcoins:Well that is the sad reality of our time. This zoning thing that has our democracy fighting with one hand tied behind it's back. We have just wasted 8 years with th Buhari government and another 4 years is going down the drain. To have a new person for just four just because of zoning is the tragedy of our time. Anyway if they intend to work closely their kind of achievement can be unique and perhaps unheard off in our contemporary time. That for a President to serve for four years then revert to becoming a vice president after that. But once again like my earlier post. If this thing goes through Obi can serve for four and then nominate a ranking member of his movement to serve as Vice in 2031. All these are long shots and sort of day dreaming. I doubt if Nigeria is ready for the kind of change we require. Whatever has held this country down is very much active. |
Smartjeezy01:He doesn't have to be. He can nominate a ranking member of his movement and when his time comes, step up. Though I don't think Mr. Obi can win next year or RMK in 2031, a party of political rebels, anti establishment figures to shake the tree of democracy in Nigeria is a breath of fresh air. |
Shady character. Never liked bankers anyway. They are the necks that carry the heads of corruption. You know a public servant's salary, his payslip flashes before your screens every month yet he deposits thousands of times more into his account, sums you are required to report by law yet you do not because you are all at the table. Then you collect your commissions, head to the market and begin to complain that prices are rising and the economy is faltering. The former Minister of Power, Mr. Mamman of Mammon laundered 30 billion naira through where, his washing machine?, isn't it through banks. Yet a serious government hasn't legislated in the past 60 years to put the banking industry under immense pressure to report and reject proceeds of crime they all claim to be fighting without a shred of success. But regime after regime continues to break records for the enormity of monies stolen from the treasury. Sure a lot of politically exposed people will have lost a lot with his demise. No doubt. |

Ray07:Nigerians don't know how damaging it is when you collect stipends to vote them into power. Nigerians don't understand the power of feudalism. These guys are well schooled in the laws of power and exploit it to the fullest. People say, I can collect the money and still vote my choice not knowing that they don't depend on your vote anyway. They have their bases covered and have the establishment locked down. What they give you is a lock to your mouth, your conscience and your spiritual ability to resist their grave intentions. When they begin to mismanage you find yourself subconsciously making excuses for them even when your conscience speaks against your cowardice. That is why since I left the ambit of government circles I have made a deliberate effort to have nothing to do with government in terms of seeking patronage of any sort. My interactions begin and end with government services. It is a terrible system of evil machinations that only a complete restructuring of this country can dismantle. |
Elections really do have consequences. For me, I really do not know what kind of provocation will make Nigerians react and take their country back. Just a pity. |
Passionate1:Good bread is ridiculously expensive in this country, from original whole wheat to original sourdough. What you see on the streets should not be eaten beyond your twenties. |
Tareq1105:But where is his counterpart commitment to the textile industries in the north. What is he going to show the Indians as a mark of his seriousness about the subject matter. If you are looking for a business loan the bank will want to see the business. If you are looking for counterpart funding you have to show your own part. If you are looking for investment you have to show what you have planted. This is what we have been saying. The number one investment government should have made post economic reforms is into Industry. Industry and the potential to create jobs and value is what investors are looking for. Start something. Show workings, show profit potentials and folks will fall over themselves to invest. They will not call you to come, they will come themselves. See what Dangote said yesterday. The cash flow and projections from his refinery is ringing on the bourses across the world and it is easier for him to raise capital for his new ventures. The government should have taken the subsidy savings and plunged it into a massive industrialization drive. Get the refineries up to scratch, get Ajaokuta finished and firing, recover what is left of ALSCON, invest in massive solar kit production, etc. Instead he shared it to governors to be building flyovers and the rest with additional loans to build new concrete highways no one asked for. So instead of taking a portfolio of workings to India he will be going empty handed. |
Thewrath:They have a boat load of cash for starters....is that not what your leaders are after. Money to give their contractor friends and their rent seeking family members for various schemes masquerading as 'critical infrastructure' in order to bamboozle. |
I remember when Indians were all over Africa seeking greener pastures. East Africa, West Africa and southern Africa. They had it rough with Idi Amin in Uganda who confiscated or converted a lot of their businesses. I remember sitting in class with Indians in primary school and having them (together with a few Sri Lankans) as teachers. Much later still I ran into a few at Uni studying Medicine and Engineering. Today their country is about the fourth largest economy (depending on who you ask) and they have left us in the dust. Today it is us running to their country to seek help and succour. It is them 'summoning' us whereas it was us 'summoning' them in the late 70's and early 80's. See what decades of bad governance, gross mismanagement has made this country to be. Derided all over Africa, pitied like an orphan, like a stray, homeless puppy in the comity of nations. Hope the next country to summon us, our leadership to help our struggle for survival will not be Togo or the countries of Liberia and Sierra Leone we delivered from civil war a while ago. Every citizen should be concerned about the decline of this country since independence and particularly since the 5th Republic in 1999. And anyone that thinks we can continue this way must be prepared for embarrassment of epic proportions. |
RetroviralS:I just wonder why. HIV has been around for.decades now. I just don't understand why there is still stigma around it. Most Nigerians I dare say know a person living with AIDS and understand the stories about such. Why should anyone be stigmatized in this day and age. |
Don't complain. This is what you get from decades of decline. Decades of a poorly run economy. You just cannot square the circle of 60 percent poverty with shiny new cities. It doesn't add up. If you try, the gap between the haves and the have-nots will simply tear the country apart. |
seunrebirth:It is normal. Nigeria is a Contractors paradise. A country of rent seekers. You can be certain this is the livelihood of some folks. The 'eat' once every four years and then roam around the desert like some prehistoric camel. |
CorperKola:Don't mind the man. Who has been sacked or arrested and prosecuted from this regime thoughtless of from the region of the leadership despite monumental amounts spent without scrutiny for all manner of white elephant projects. He should just relax. Another government will do the needful as it is the tradition in this country where you don't point cutlery while you are at the dinner table. |
