No Liverpool win, no Champions League for them next season, simple. |
Elusive001:And tax returns. They are completely capable when it comes to what benefits them, but woefully inadequate and full of excuses when it comes to what will empower the people. Yes, having your vote count indeed empowers you and me. The thought of having your choice elected frightens them. They know you don't like them, they know it is only by the hard and sacrificial work of good governance they can return, so whatever is needed to empower you, they will deny you of it, simple. |
It is a tool for disenfranchisement, all the propaganda against a very simple reform. They know with this stand educated and informed citizens will give up on the elections and not bother participating, leaving the field to those easily manipulated and too mentally weak to challenge their purposes. The situation we find ourselves lends to the fact that a people who wish to affect their destiny have to start by demonstrating power at the grassroots by making examples of their legislative representatives. Get one or two or three out of power by the ballot and this will have a ripple effect on the entire system. It will break their ranks and send notice that the people are not ready to be misled or taken for granted. At the very least I expect those regions where voters removed establishment figures and replaced them with their own choices to do so again even if those elected then have moved to the ruling party and are now working to truncate their aspirations. |
Arkbuilt12:You cannot score two freekicks in a Champions League knockout against a certain Real Madrid and a legendary Thibout Cortouis and NOT make this kind of list. Anyway Mr.Freekick himself, Juninho takes the cake. This was the only thing he was made for in soccer. |
Hmmm....so what did he do that is following after him with much vexation. Who did he betray that he is reaping from....just asking for a friend who gives a damn, cos I don't. |
Brobby off. Saliba says.....thaaank...you lord.... ![]() |
ZombieDredd:Hmm...if na me talk dis wan, na trouble. |
Here in Africa we have substitutes for rice. We have garri, yam, masara, etc. In Arteta's house there is no substitute for rice. Rice in the morning, rice for lunch, rice for dinner...until the rice finishes patapata. |
Good gesture to Mikel Merino. Real shame the lad will be missing the World Cup. |
That was a banana by Zubimendi, while Sunderland defenders were monkeying around....(pun not intended) . |
Romero that has been berating everyone 'beratable' at his club has now goofed big time. Now he will be out for four Prem matches The club will roast his arse over hot coals. |
Mirasteel:On the contrary. I think it is the people that are not working. A servant will only do what the master asks. Who is master, who is servant. Who is asking, tasking, and who is not. So when the people know their rights and are prepared to task their servants, they will be sorted. It is about enlightenment. Since I have come of age I have never seen anyone in political office with any sort of regards beyond that of servants. |
donself9:So if a government, the central government fails to protect you for whatever reason or agenda, WHAT IS THE SOLUTION. Is it not to begin to demand your liberty to protect yourself. Is it not to demand that you have your own police. I don't understand Nigerians. We support, worship and adore these people in office, but when it comes to the very basic issue of PERSONAL survival, we grow limp. I expect the people of that area to stand up and form their own police service. And let me see what will happen. Let me see WHO will come to them and tell them why not. |
OredoPikin2:This is the problem I have with us. The failure to think rationally. Democracy and the workings of government is NOT about the individual and his successes. It is about building systems to work DESPITE individual successes AND FAILURES. Working countries build systems and institutions to outlast governments or regimes or individual leaders and it is the ability to visualize long term solutions that make them successful. Democracy has envisioned that you will not always have AVAILABLE qualitative individuals at the helm or offering themselves for elected offices. Democracy envisages that the people can make mistakes in electing wrong leadership. Proper democracy envisages that individual leaders can change, can fail, can fall sick, can die in office, etc, so it does not hang out the fortunes of a country, short and long term on individuals but on the SYSTEM. So you guys should stop peddling individual achievements and templating it on a democratic journey of hundreds of years. Rather seek after positively sustainable governance by institution creation, building and sustenance. Lay emphasis on what will work north, east, west, south. What will work today, tomorrow and in years to come and what will remain in war and peace, that is in all circumstances. We have heard several stories of people who did this and that in the past but when they were fortunate to return to leadership the story changed. In a nutshell, Nigerians should stop making individuals institutions. PS. We should all read the report again and note the sequencing of events. Is the solution not clear to the blind that there is a critical need to have security domiciled at the point of need. To have a security service that SERVES the people affected. Where is the lame soundbite of 'see something, say something', when you don't have state or local government police, police at the point of need. If Nigerians cannot make it a solid demand at the next elections for the establishment of state and local government police then they should take anything they see the next four years. |
I will consider myself insane if I have anything to say on this matter (my first response to this incident). What a country makes of itself, what a people make of themselves, is what is going to happen and continue to happen. Nothing further to add. Said enough. |
If Mr. Effiong doesn't understand what state capture is all about, then he should get another job, certainly not that of a learned fellow. When the Executive backed by the citizens argued that it was alright for them to nominate the leadership of the Legislature, that is a President nominating a fellow President or should I say the Chairman of Club Owners nominating the Head of the Referees Association... Then the game is effectively over. It is just a pity that I'm this country we love to see things practically happen to us before we believe in their possibility. And when we see folks in better run societies fight tooth and nail to protect their liberties and keep leadership under check, we think they overdo. I repeat again. This man will get himself back into office and there is nothing any citizen of this country can do about that. And then we will practically see to our detriment what autocracy is all about. They have been testing the waters with this tax matter, dropping hints about the extent to which they are prepared to go to force you to part with your resources. Post 2027 you will see just how desperate they are. Strap in. |
rickpat:What are you looking for visa for. Is your country not making progress under the present administration. India should convene their own equivalent of ICE and flush out these criminals for their own good. Let them return to their country to fix the problems they have refused to admit. |
When are we going to ICE and deport the bandits and Jihadists rampaging through parts of Nigeria allegedly imported by a certain past government to ensure they won in 2015 but have apparently lost control of. |
I don't know what part of 'State Capture' you folks lamenting about the crimes committed in these things institutions don't understand. If you are still waiting for hardened criminals to admit to their crimes and submit themselves to law enforcement, then he'll will probably freeze over first. |
In a country where it takes 10 minutes for food and groceries ordered to arrive, it took an hour for an ambulance. Classic third world country afflicted by the very snake bites we have witnessed down here of recent. As for the internet and raising kids, I see no difference between that and classic American gun ownership. Double edged force for good and evil. As they say, choose your poison. |
See Nigerians fighting each other about what is happening in the Gulf. Right here in our country two massacres within 72 hours involving several dozen lives and that doesn't bother them. In any civilians society the country will have shut down with no one talking about anything else, with the government scrambling to answer questions from an outraged citizenry, but....just another day in the lives of a hapless people. It is a tanker or tankers that is our bother. Failed citizens. |
See a topic. So Nigerians have given up and fully embraced bad leadership with a whimper. |
So it is clear to the blind and audible to the deaf that Nigeria has a Jihadist problem. And the objecctive of Islamizing this country by violence is not imagined. The problem now is the rift between those who agree with this notion and those who do not. |
Freshandfitpod:Eating may make them happy. That is still not happiness. The 'ness' is the problem. |
Absolutely. Happiness is a state most misunderstood. |
ufotunang:My. Brother, I don't know. But this is how we do things in this country. It is clear. Someone was recently in London for holidays and was led around in a double decker bus and has decided all the money he spent on himself and his family can be recouped by selling this idea to the government...and unfortunately has succeeded. This is how our governments here work. They are infiiltrated by interest groups, overwhelmed by the cries of contractors peddling all sorts of ill-thought off ideas and schemes that the rulers lap up to remain in power. Well the money has been spent. So the citizens have to start to ask the serious questions about how this 'vision' will succeed if they have any value for their resources being spent. Cross-River is a poster child for good intentions gone horribly wrong. I just hope they have repaid those millions of dollars borrowed way back then. |
And those local governments don't know where those educational or healthcare materials are sold. In Nigeria THEY MUST BE SUPPLIED. The local government staff sit idly in their offices and CONTRACTORS do the jobs they should be doing. This culture is the bane of this country. Majeed Dahiru said it yesterday. 90 percent of corruption issues in Nigeria is at the behest of this evil called procurement or as I will call it, a Contracting culture. Any government that can end this culture will be the only government that can save this country. Nothing else. Government can borrow or tax it's way to trillions of naira., but if it cannot walk on its two feet to the market and buy it's pens and toilet paper but has to 'contract' these things out to be provided at ridiculous, highly inflated, unquestionable amounts, corruption WILL NEVER END. We will continue to hear humongous amounts stolen by public officers and only lament because we have refused as citizens to take responsibility and decide HOW GOVERNMENT SPENDS OUR MONEY. Shey Senators said they are not paid enough. Ask Mr. Oshiomhole with the recent proofs as seen by the entire world. What more do Nigerians, especially those who against their consciences continue to support these folks, want to make all of us stand up and say, enough is enough. |
columbusinso:I believe government can do both at the same time,.social programs and sectoral investments/establishment. The former is purely a non profit government responsibility. The latter should be a profit driven public/private sector joint venture to which government's role is limited to framework, supervision and a small equity if is so desires. But government should plan carefully and learn from the mistakes of other states that have dabbled into such things and today they are dust. Take a cue from the infamous Cross-River tourism ventures and where they ar today and see the limitations of government trying to drive what I term a business. |
'He is creating opportunities....' What kind of thinking is this. Where are the plans, where are the working documents towards, where are the elements of a working tourism industry to which the government is supposedly investing in. You will think the other things are in place and the operators (preferably private investors) are asking for government intervention or assistance or investment by providing these buses. But in Nigeria it is always the cart before the horse because things are never planned or purposed. They are always driven by interests, by contractors. In a few months or years you will never see or hear of this again. Reason, no root, no branch and no leaves to bear fruits. As a matter of fact no desire to farm by the people. Want a tourism industry?, you start by selling an idea that is all encompassing to all citizenry, you sell the benefits so that it can succeed long term over many governments because the people see it as an economic lifeline. Then you hold summits to fashion plans on what to do, by whom and to what group and what and how to start. And to who and what the benefits will accrue. Then you share, as it were responsibilities perhaps based on equity. It is to these plans that the government will have identified that it's responsibilities are to provide transportation at this time hence the buses it has provided. |
And where can 95 percent of these sub-national leaders be found today, the ruling party. Which means a total disconnect between our type of politics and the quality of governance it delivers. That everyone joins the ruling APC will not shift the poverty needle one inch just as it did not during the totalitarian regimes of the PDP of yesteryears. |
Now that everyone has been conquered and enslaved into the ruling APC and so terrorized they cannot speak out (for heaven's sake, even Donald Trump has stiff opposition within the Republican party), there is NOTHING that will be done for any citizen to secure or better their lives. You cannot hold these governors to account because they have made deals with their autocratic overlord to secure their offices and political futures, so care for the public is not a priority. Sorry, but we brought ourselves to our knees by our inability to understand how democracy works for the good of societies. |
Yet again. The Nigerian fights his fellow citizen on behalf of his captor. Slave trade never ended. It just changed patrons. |
