Hahaha.... 'temporary festive period' indeed. Now the celebrations are over the 'institution' called Dangote has spoken. Now where are the regulators to 'resist' this. To prevent Dangote from 'sabotaging' the economy. Clowns everywhere. |
OlujobaSamuel:So what is the REAL or IMAGINED threshold. I have heard al these explanations about housing, medical insurance, etc. So what in naira and kobo is the threshold of this tax policy. Can tax experts say. And of course you and I don't expect a person earning N720,000 pa to live in a house costing N300,000 pa. But when you bring real life housing bills into the equation I doubt it if anyone should pay tax. The whole import of my submission is that this policy is so out of touch with the economic realities of this country and that is why I say, the facts of this drive should be from the politicians that faced the people in the 2023 campaign and will face them against in next year's campaign. They should not hide behind the civil service to manage it. The politicians should tell the people exactly what they are doing and what they aim to achieve. It is that simple. My Oyedele should take a back seat and let his boss tell us that out paychecks are healthier. |
And in all democracies in the world issues of taxation are purely political. The decisions of what to tax, how much to tax, etc. Why is it that in this country the face of this taxation drive is a bureaucrat, a civil servant and not the politicians themselves. In other words they hide behind the civil service to explain and entreat so that is costs them nothing in political capital. But when the resources are gathered it is not the civil servant that decides how to spend it. It is the politician the money is sent to, to spend as the wish. The APC government should come out with it's facts and figures and sell this policy to Nigerians face to face and receive the necessary feedback to make it succeed. It is the Minister of Finance that should be doing this not Mr. Oyedele who is not accountable to the public, hence no one regards what he says. |
1vandragon:That is exactly what I was saying late last year. The minimum wage is a whooping N720,000 pa. And the tax threshold is N700,000. So N20,000 out of that huge wage is taxable. Is this how the poor benefits. This is a minimum wage of N2,800 per working day that is internationally equivalent to N350 per hour or 24 cents per hour when the UN poverty threshold is defined at $3 a day or N4,350 or N109,000 per month. So how does a government that claims it's taxation policy favours the poor aims to tax a person earning 24 cents per hour. How... |
This man needs to talk less. Just making himself the lighting rod for public ire when the whole issue of taxation should be a national project and the more he wails alone the more he sounds like the salesman of a really bad product. Oga Oyedele. Government finances belong to everyone. Democracy has given you the privilege of being the executioner of what we have all collectively decided. You are making it look and sound like this is personal. Personal to you and to your bosses with an inordinate and overwhelming vested interest in what is to be collected. PS. I understand Lagosians have approved their government seizing their resources via the new taxation protocols. That is going into their accounts and confiscating their assets and those related to them. Is this true? |
OredoPikin2:Ambode operated in an environment of far better macro economics. Lower inflation, higher exchange rate so his revenues could get better infrastructural mileage. This is what I have been saying. You cannot isolate states from Federal management decisions and actions and that is why in the PDP era the Council of States was a more powerful economic tool of governance than it is today. Then they took positions (good and bad) that helped and hindered the stability and progress of the economy. |
I think this one party, autocratic quest is getting into the heads of Nigerians such that alternative views to everything and anything that is now seen as the undesirable exception. I can't understand what has happened to the psyche people over the past two years. How they have jettisoned the democracy they claim to have fought so hard to establish. Excuse me Mr.Fayose. Must every politician belong to the APC, and have no other view of politics and governance. Is there no longer freedom of thoughts, speech and association as enshrined in the Constitution. |
Kobicove:They are not that United. They don't have cohesive views on some of the most important issues, immigration, Russia, China and the US. Like someone said earlier. Some were breaking the sanctions against Russia, still secretly buying their energy products, years after sanctions were imposed, yet crying out that the US was being lukewarm in military aid. |
So the game is done. Knew from the first ten minutes Arsenal was not going to win. You cannot rely on your midfield to win matches all the time and when you cannot put chances away it is only a matter of tim before the pendulum shifts. It is a mental thing and Arsenal are world reknown for having a glass jaw. |
That Gyokeres is so bad that Arsenal had started talking up Gabriel Jesus as the solution forgetting many months back the reason why a striker was badly needed and Jesus was going to be sold. For poor performances and lack of goals. Now he is starting we are beginning to see history rewritten. |
Reference:What did I say. When you create chances, take them or you will be merely training the opposition defence to cope. And as you begin to doubt yourself particularly with an Arsenal team that is not known for mental fortitude, you will begin to make .mistakes. We have been watching football for decades and know what the Premiership is all about. |
There is none that is 'better' in a side by side comparison. They both have characteristics more suited to different conditions. Basically concrete pavements are characterized as rigid while asphaltic pavements are characterized as flexible so where you need rigidity such as in areas of deep moisture reactive subsoils concrete pavements are cost effective solutions. But if ground conditions are reasonable and density of the pavement sub base is controllable then flexible pavements perform better. |
This is long true. Britain has the longest history of modern warfare. They have fought almost every country on earth in one conflict or the other and their military traditions are the foundations of most modern armed forces the the world over. Though a much smaller fighting force on land, sea and air today they still retain the title of having the best Special forces on earth, the SAS and the SBS. |
With all the early possession Arsenal has not made hay. This is where the danger to their title run happens. Take your chances when you are on top is the anthem of the Premiership. |
Izugreat8940:That is a factor not understood about these reinforced concrete roads. Because of their rigid nature they will react very badly to overloading. Just imagine driving along and trying to avoid exposed pieces of steel rebar. |
Whatever they do. The recurring violence against civilians, the abductions and killings, the ethnic cleansing and religious persecution must end. Violence against religious minorities particularly in the north which we thought had ceased in the face of the previous US threats and actions, but have since recurred is just unfortunate, but proving that the agitations were real and that the government has been incapable of handling the situation on its own. I am particularly surprised that despite the fact that the eyes of the world are on this country, there has been no new radical proposals and no new impetus to getting a hand on this problem. It is as if all Nigeria just wants for the next tragedy to occur and the excuses to go with it. Really sad the depth to which governance has sunk and settled. |
In the middle of September or so this forum was inundated with 'hailing' over the improved and 'stable' power supply. And we said then that two factors contributed to that. Peak hydro generation. Lower overall power consumption due to cooler weather and the frequent system wide rain induced equipment failure. What we want to see is SUSTAINABLE electricity generation and distribution before growing flowers of praise Speak to China. They are closing down solar PV plants due to over capacity and consequent price depressions. Can't we sequester one of those plants, produce enough panels to generate green energy from the abundant sun we have at this time of the year to meet peak season? |
LivingEarthMan:That is why they are pulling out from the rest of the world and hedging their bets on the Americas, their backyard. Let the rest of the world chart their own course. Perhaps they will see China as better global leaders. At least for the next 3 years of Trump they intend to focus on themselves. |
Folks want to.pick and choose what other countries do with their resources. If the US stays, they are overbearing, if they leave they are isolationists. Just don't understand. Most of the world wants to have their cake and eat it. Not a fan of taking over Greenland. But can Denmark or NATO defend it if Russia or China decides to invade...And they will in the coming decades when they the 'coast is clear' and the US is no longer interested in Europe. |
Yeah, noticed the effect the spat had on Lookman. Didn't watch our last match, the semi finals but he was totally jaded against Algeria. |
What Gyokeres cannot do...Jesus can ![]() |
Gunners featuring team B+. Results will be unpredictable. |
Is the sheen, the aura around Pep Guardiola as a first class gaffer beginning to fade. Seen a couple of matches now where he just doesn't seem to have any tactical solutions to turn things around. |
Roycemadeit:Well said. This is precisely what is happening. Weak leadership that prioritizes it's survival over governance will always fill it's manifesto with reactionary, short term thinking in the place of longer term, sustainable development because for them this is much harder. |
notobiafrababe:Which part of Lagos is more 'organized' than Ikoyi, yet they were reported rounded up even on Bourdillon road. Without returning to a values based system where work and enterprise is key to sustainable living rather than greed and exploitation, these moves are akin to spraying insecticide while living near a swamp, futile. You have to get to the root of this social malaise and completely rip it out and this starts with leadership by example. A leadership that sees people first and before naira notes |
emkz:The Negro has very weak horizontal relationships. He can be greatly enamoured and respectful to his creator, his king and his father's, perfect vertical relationships. But when it comes to those he considers his equal, his contemporaries, he has no affinity, respect or emphaty whatsoever. That is why we are always the least likely to forge successful, sustainable societies. That is why our relationships are always viewed as master and servant, in the home, in business, in vocation and in profession and real partnerships never thrive. That is why when you put on the uniform, it is 'us' versus 'them', you command, they obey or else... Little service comes to view. And I can go on and on with the description of a people that just cannot make themselves great in the generic sense of the word and become globally relevant and dominant. We just donot have qualitative horizontal relationships. |
And that is how they thumbprint for poverty, stagnation and under development. The continent is not the backwards way it is by mistake. Blame colonial rule all you want. This is black on black captivity. |
Corporatehitman:Or to qualify for the world cup playoffs for that matter. It will be Nigeria's loss. We will be back to Eguavoen while the NFF fumbles in the dark for plan b. |
ZombieDredd:He was thinking too far, ahead to the Internazionale game. |
AwokenVawulence:That is the Champions mentality they have lacked for many years. Don't be surprised if they lose this match. It is not enough to sign technically gifted players but management should also have an eye for players that have a solid fortitude and an uncompromising desire to win things. |
SmartPolician:It is easy. Thousands of jobs can be created if the diseased 'contracting' culture is ended in Nigeria. This country gives trillions of naira to individuals and companies in the name of contracts to do various things the public should be doing instead. |
gabbytabby:Yes, it is inevitable, but not the first thing. Governance is about people. Plans, purposes, progress. There are political representatives from that area. How far has government interacted with them to change the story of the inhabitants, remove them from that locality in a responsible manner and integrating them into the wider society. Or if fishing is their vocation what is government doing to bring investments to the collective to raise their standards of living so that the environment is protected by best practices. Can the Lagos state government set aside special intervention funds for such derelict communities in it's annual budget for all of the above. Because the success of any society is judged by the fortunes of the least privileged. So just as we all criticize the irresponsible poverty fueled behavior of 'born throway' amongst ignorant citizens, the sack, demolish and drive away attitude of government that owes a duty of care and development to citizens is no different. PS. And if Nigeria or any country is not interested in the welfare of society then exactly what is the purpose of government. Granted welfarism should not mean government fills your refrigerator with food and cleans your toilet. But it is responsible for setting standards and organising society around aggregated resources. Government is like your typical Nigerian communal 'meeting' where you get to know one another, plan, program and progress, set agendas and contribute to a purse to be made accessible to those who are in need such that a healthy standard of living and business is maintained. That is what government does, that is what government is for. |
