Alhaji Buba Galadima, a Board of Trustees, BoT, member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former close ally of President Muhammadu Buhari has described some Agricultural policies of the current Federal government as “mere propaganda.”

He said this while faulting a claims that the Buhari’s government has used Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, to grant farmers loan and financial enablement.

Galadima insisted that the current Agricultural policies of the Buhari’s government is not being felt by farmers in the country.

Speaking with The Sun, the APC Chieftain said, “No, no, there are people from certain parts of the country that can never get loan or assistance from the government.

“I have been looking for some amount of money, I gave out my C of O, certificate of my farm and office that amounts to over N500m, yet no bank was able to grant me N16m loan . I had to sell my property to get some money.

“So what government is doing in the area of farming is mere propaganda, I have not seen anything on ground.

“I wrote to the Minister of Agriculture that I needed to buy certain farm equipment and agricultural facilities, he is yet to reply my letter four months after.

“I had a late planting and I am suffering that as the rain has suddenly seized. If this type of treatment is being given to me, how about the man in the village who cannot reach the minister of agriculture or anybody?”

Governor Henry Seriake Dickson made history when he drove to Aleibiri in Ekeremor local government area of Bayelsa State, the first time a vehicle would reach the community, thanks to the construction of Sagbama, Ekeremor, Agge Road.

The governor took time off after the historic drive to speak on a number of national issues, including the failure of the Federal Government to address the calls for the restructuring of the country, and the challenges confronting Bayelsa State and the Niger Delta. He also spoke on the need for the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, to urgently put its house in order, ahead of the 2019 general elections.

You made some remarks in your introduction, which touched on the core mandate of our administration. One of them is the Sagbama/Ekeremor/Agge road, but I just want to speak briefly about that critical infrastructure project.

The clearing of that road from Toru Orua, that is expected to terminate at Agge, was taken over by this government in 2013 and, in 2015, the clearing had reached Agge. Right now, they are sand filling and it is just a few kilometres to get to Ekeremor.

By January 2018, I am likely to embark on another tour by driving to Ekeremor because we expect that the sand filling to Ekeremor should be completed by December 2017. For those politicians in your introduction, who asked if roads and schools could be built on water, clearly Nigerians do not know about the challenges we are facing and enough efforts have not been made in that regard over the years to understand the peculiar developmental challenges of this area.

Bayelsa developmental challenge is different because the entire state is below sea level. That is why our leaders wrote to the colonial masters before Nigeria became independent that the emerging Nigeria nation will not understand our problems and how to solve them.

As soon as the dredging is completed, I have directed that even if we have to borrow, they will move to Oporoma to sand fill from where we have stopped to Angiama, where the bridge will be launched to Oporoma. That is what I want to accomplish before the end of my tenure.

We are also talking to major players like the NDDC, the SPDC and so on, on how we can collaborate. The Nembe-Brass road is also critical and that one is commercially viable because of the businesses in that area. The second concern you raised was the monkey pox containment in our state. I congratulate the commissioner for health and his team for containing the scourge.

Eight soldiers are reportedly feared killed after Boko Haram terrorists launched attack on a military base in Sasawa, a community close to Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.

The spokesman of 3 Div. Nigerian Army, Col. Kayode Ogunsanya confirmed the attack but could not give details of the casualty figure.

He, however, stated that “there was casualty on both side of the army and the insurgents”.

But a soldier who survived the attack told DAILY POST that eight soldiers, including an officer and a civilian were killed in the attack.

He also added that many soldiers took to their heels after sighting the insurgents driving into the community with about seven gun trucks and others riding on motorcycles.

“I can authoritatively confirm to you that there was an attack at dawn yesterday at Sasawa and eight soldiers, including an officer as well as a civilian were killed during the raid.

“The insurgents overran the military base having come with seven gun trucks.

“Many of our colleagues ran for their lives because the fire power of the insurgents was much and our guys had to take cover,” the source said.

Sasawa is one of the communities that was under the control of the insurgents before being liberated by security forces, with an established military base.

No fewer than 30 persons have been feared killed after a suicide bomber hit Shi‘ite mosque in Kabul on Friday.

The attack occurred at Imam Zaman mosque in the western Dasht-e-Barchi part of Kabul, Afghanistan, as Shi‘ite worshippers gathered for prayers.

A senior security official said that the exact number of casualties was unknown `but that security forces at the scene had removed at least 30 bodies.’’

The attacker is reported to have opened fire as worshippers gathered for Friday prayers, before detonating a bomb.

Kabul police spokesman Basir Mojahid confirmed the incident at the Shia mosque in Kabul, but did not give further details.

Also, a spokesman for the Afghan interior ministry said investigators were working at the scene to determine the “nature of the explosion.”

SEVEN soldiers have been ambushed and killed by the Boko Haram insurgents on Damboa Maiduguri highway.

Legal adviser of the civilian JTF in Borno State, Barrister Jibrin Gunda, told Nigerian Tribune that although the soldiers were taken unawares, the vehicle and ammunition carted away on Wednesday have been recaptured and returned to base.

Maiduguri Damboa road is one of the roads that the Army declared safe last year, yet no vehicle can drive through without military escort.

Several people, especially women have been hijacked by the insurgents along that route in the last two years.
