Look, Nigerian restaurants abroad are making big money.

They enjoy heavy patronage from locals in those countries.

In fact anything Nigerian now sells.

Nigeria is hot cake now in the international cultural space, and our Afrobeats stars are the main driver.

After a few days of eating all that foreign stuff, your whole body will just be shaking, for you to eat one heavy Naija soup with poundo! undecided

YOU ARE THE ILLITERATE.

Which one is ''SS'' and ''SE''?

Is there any army called SE OR SS?

Or you think a professionally trained fighting force like the Nigerian military, ranked 4th out of 54 countries n Africa, will, in the face of external attack, split along ethnic lines, with some ethnicities deciding to fight for the British?

A whole Nigerian army?

Are you okay at all?

I mean, the type of people that come on this nairaland are just so primitive in the way they reason.

See him shouting SS and SE as if there is any army called SS!

The only chance of Aba looking like this by 2045 is if Nigeria disintegrates or we revert back to the quasi-independence the component units had pre ‘66!
I disagree.

The states are virtually autonomous now. You can do anything you want to do, unlike before.

So it doesn't matter what 'structure' you are in, so long as your leaders are ready to work.

Also, do not underestimate the advantage Aba has, of BEING IN NIGERIA, one of the largest consumer markets on Earth, which negates the need to rely on export markets for their finished goods in the short-run.

If Nigeria ‘disintegrates’, you will lose that market, and be forced to compete for foreign markets with China and others.

Story for the gods
You're wrong.

The GDP of Aba should rise commensurate with the twin realities of 24/7 power supply and industrial hyperactivity.

That translates to economic and infrastructural development as investors site their corporate offices in the city, leading to the development of skyscrapers, large international hotels, etc.

In the next year or two, look out for international hotel groups like Sheraton and Hilton starting to clear land there for their hotels, and then it will be a flood of highrises following..

The rise of numerous Nigerian companies with better or competing products contributed to the sales plunge.

Many women now produce soaps from their backyard.

This is not bad at all.

Yes I did. They will go look for available local or even international companies to render their services to or setup small-scale factories to that effect, which was how PZ itself started.

Nothing is lost from the macro viewpoint.
Thanks for educating these ignorant people.

Exit of multinationals making something as simple as SOAP is EXCELLENT NEWS for local industrialists.

Watch out for Aba skyline in the next few years. People were busy building 4 and 5 storey buildings everywhere without electricity, and tenants had to climb all those stairs, imagine what is going to happen now that there is 24/7 light for lift to function efficiently.

I repeat, wait for Aba in the next few years!!!
Oh definitely we expect to see highrises and skyscrapers in Aba very soon.

The authorities must also ensure they build sidewalks and covered drains on ALL the streets, not just major roads.

That is what it means to be a world class city.

Very exciting future.

God bless every govt and financial institution that made it possible.
God specifically bless Gov. Chioma Otti.

The future is so exciting for Aba.

I’m not from there but I feel excited for them.

The industrialisation that will commence there will be very similar to China, South Korea etc.

Even in the next 10 years, that place will be transformed.

AM not an obident or tinubu or atiku supporter.

But of a truth, education is very very expensive, good quality education.

Most of us in Nigeria think that good quality education in oversease, they pay for it from their pocket. The harsh truth is...they do not. They pay for it from

1. LOANS: USA, UK, Japan and some other countries.

2.TAXES: Germany, denmark and Sweden

Here in NIgeria we did subsidsied education, very heavily subsidised. And initally, it worked because universites used to have very few numbers of students (my old university in the early 1970's had less than 3000 students, postgrads included. Class sizes could be as low as 20-30 students. I ain't joking). But our populaiton grew, and the universites also grew...but the problem was, subsidising education meant unis cannot raise fees to pay for a host of things. Add the fact that taxation is low in Nigeria (less than 20% of our national income comes from tax, and we still ain't taxing our GDP as we should).

So, we get shit education.

I recall when Obi made the comment, and it was made i believe when he raised fees for tertiary institutions in the state. Because the problem was that many of those schools could not survive on the fees that they were earning at the time. People complained, Obi told them education is not for the poor. Harsh, and insensitive, but still correct.

There is a reason why Tinubu is bringing in student loans. University is godawful expensive. We have been lying to ourselves that fees less than 100 dollars per annum can pay for first class education, and a budget less than 1-3 billion dollars...which does not go to universites alone, but to other sections...can give us good education. The harsh truth is, it can't.....so loans and allowing unis to raise fees, as the APC government wants to do is a way forward.

Another way is to tax every taxable Nigerian half their income. That is what the Danes do. That is how they can afford free educaiton from the cradle to the grave over there. You know how Nigerians will respond.

The old model of finding as many raw materials to sell does not work anymore. OIl is struggling to reach 90 dollars per barrel, talkless of the 120-30 that we need it to be before we can get a balanced budget self. Going industrial is the way, but it would take a generation or two of sustained effort before we reap the benefits.

God knows the truth of the matter is, university is expensive. Obi said it, tinubu is agreeing. Atiku too charges high fees for his university....if he charged N10000 fees for helping the poor, he won't be able to pay lecturers or staff nada.
So it’s not just electricity that Nigerians are unwilling to pay for…?

I remember your similar argument about power supply. wink

Look, gentlemen, while there is nothing wrong with a man changing or altering his beliefs over a particular issue, it’s usually done by the person explaining his transition from the old ideology to the new one.

But in Obi’s case, no reason is given for the sudden transformation.

It’s worrisome because it suggests that his presidential ambition has driven his recent ‘conversion’ to full public access to education, and other social programmes, such as water access, for which his much-maligned modest borehole donation up north, is a quirky reminder.

I keep hearing that Peter Obi said during his tenure as governor of Anambra state, that Education was not meant for poor people.

Did he really say this??

Please tell me he didn’t say it.

Because I can’t believe that this would be the VERY SAME MAN TODAY, that is starting a CHALLENGE for Education.

In fact this level of brazen hypocrisy is one of the biggest problems we are having in this country.

I must caution Mr Obi to desist from such two-faced behaviour, and comport himself in a more honest manner.

TANZANIA’S MAXIMUM DAILY PRODUCTION IS 1,900 mw.

WHAT THIS ARTICLE MEANS IS THAT TANZANIA WAS GENERATING MORE THAN ITS GRID COULD HANDLE.

NIGERIA TODAY HAS A MAXIMUM GENERATING CAPACITY OF OVER 12,000 MW.

NIGERIA COULD ALSO GENERATE MORE POWER THAN IT CAN HANDLE, LIKE TANZANIA DID.

IT IS ABOUT TRANSMISSION AND DISTRIBUTION, NOT GENERATING CAPACITY.
