I have never for one day prayed that God should forgive that thief. The last time i passed that MCC road,i couldn't believe my eyes. That road use to be one of the best cut out roads in aba but today, its definitely the worst. T.A Orji made sure it remains that way. That man is evil. At times i think he has been sent to punish us for what I don't know.
PoliticsAbia State: A State In Need Of Freedom. by reganvida(op): 3:23pm On Nov 26, 2014
Abia state: the quest for freedom.
Abia state is a state with the slogan "God own state" but in reality, the state has always looked like a state in serious need of God's intervention.
Abia state has been in the mouth of every citzen of Nigeria not because of good deeds but because of its ruined condtion. Abia state is home to the best shoe industry and. clothing industry in NIgeria if not West Africa yet,the state looks like a state without a single resource. It is well know that there is no resource as important as human resource in the development of an area but the case of Abia State seems to be different thus the queston, what must be the cause?
Believe it or not,Gov. T.A Orji has taken the state ten steps backward than the one step forward that Gov Orji Uzor Kalu took it. He has made sure he and his cronies looted the state coffers to zero and at the same time, owing workers unimaginable amount of salaries. Ochendo as he is popularly known did not stop at owing salaries,he levied the people of Abia especially those in the aba area with tax in different forms yet nothing has been done with the money. Aba is a shame, anybody who lives in aba knows the fear when the weather gets cloudy and the rain gathers to fall. Hold up is the order of the day on a sunny day talk more of when it rains. Ariaria market which can boost as the second or third largest market in Nigeria is the laughing stock of traders alll over Nigeria.traders who go to ariaria to buy goods dread such experience especially if it rains. Not just ariaria market.Ahia Ohuru at Ngwa road can be regarded with pity when visited because of its condition. Refused has been heaped alongs its main road until one cannot see the other person at the other side of the road. When you walk along the road, the amount of dirts and stinking liquids you step on,you will definitely feel the germs making its way into your system through you feet.
Do we talk about the roads, every connecting roads Orji Uzor kalu constructed during his time has been left to ruins without rehabilitation or constructing an alternative. Aba has been locked in. No matter the road you follow,Ochendo has made sure that you must feel the brunt of his greed, cluelessness, wickedness.
Come 2015 Abians has to look for freedom. We need a technocrat,a leader, a man who has made it on his own not through politics. A peoples' person. God help us

PoliticsAPC, PDP And Its Members,"the Case Of My Enemy's Enemy Is My Friend" by reganvida(op): 6:21pm On Oct 06, 2014
The enemy of my enemy is my friend. That's is the definition of APC,PDP and its members and such collection of strange bedfellows may be a good thing for party politics, buh its a bad thing for Nigeria as a country. The coming together of several politicians under the PDP and APC is born out of a mutual hatred for one another.

The issue of boko haram should have been taken care of months or years ago had the two main parties come together as a country rather than playing politics of hatred.

Also,we saw how Rivers,Adamawa,Nasarawa states where engulfed in different crisis due to useless hatred politics without the politicians thinking of what's best for the people. Lives and properties of ordinary citizens has been lost in Rivers,Nasarawa and even ekiti state due to hatred politics and its we ordinary citizens that bear the pains.

Our dear country will never move forward, will never progress if we always let party politics come before country.Nigeria will be a better country if we can love our country mor than we love ourselves.

This is a message to all politicians who visit the forum,if Nigeria will be better,it has to start from you.
God Bless The Federal Republic of Nigeria

PoliticsMurder Case: Rivers Police Grant Lloyd Bail by reganvida(op): 10:41am On Jan 09, 2014
Rivers State House of Assembly Majority Leader, Chidi Lloyd has been granted bail by the State Police Command. Lloyd was arrested last week for allegedly using a bullet-proof vehicle to kill one Kingsley

Ejehuo, identified as his kinsman and a police sergeant, Mr. Urang Obediah, along the East-West Road on December 30, 2013.

Lawyer for the lawmaker, Mr. Emenike Ebete, had declared the report of the police on the matter as false and distorted, adding that Lloyd was arrested at his residence in the presence of his family.

Lloyd, who represents Emohua State Constituency, was released on bail on Tuesday night after spending five days in police custody.

Ebete disclosed that Lloyd was given a condition that he must deposit his International Passport with the police and provide two sureties.

One of the sureties, according to the Ebete, was expected to deposit a Certificate of Occupancy of his (surety) property.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ahmad Mohammad, confirmed Lloyd's release.

"He (Lloyd) is on police bail and investigation into the matter is ongoing," Mohammad said.

PoliticsRevealed: How North Korea’s Kim Jong-un Killed His 'scum' Uncle by reganvida(op): 7:29am On Jan 06, 2014
It has been revealed that North Korean dictator, Kim Jong-Un, sentenced his uncle to be eaten alive by a pack of 120 wild dogs as a punishment for treachery. According to new details emerging from

China, his 67-year-old uncle, Jang Song-Thaek, along with 5 close aides, was stripped naked and thrown into a cage of hounds which have been starved for 3 days.

A report in a Chinese newspaper, Wen Wei Po, disclosed that the hungry animals spent over an hour mauling the group in a punishment called 'quan jue' or execution by dogs.

According to a report by Daily Mail:

The tyranical leader of the communist state had accused his uncle – once seen as North Korea's second most powerful man – of treason and corruption and described him as 'scum' and 'factionalist filth' during his recent New Year message.

Unlike previous executions of political prisoners, which were carried out by firing squads with machine guns, this extraordinary sentence seems to have been specially reserved for the most hated in North Korean society.

The report in the Chinese language newspaper said the entire process was supervised by the supreme leader in North Korea, along with 300 senior officials – a clear warning against anyone challenging Kim's leadership.

The fact details of the barbaric punishment emerged in a newspaper, viewed as Beijing Government's official mouthpiece, in Hong Kong, has been seen as another signal of China's authorities losing patience with its wayward neighbour, according to The Straits Times.

Kim Jong-Un spoke of the execution of his 67-year-old uncle during his New Year address telling the country 'our party took resolute action to remove...scum elements within the party last year.'

The 30-year-old leader appeared on state television for the speech and analysts say the words reflect his feelings towards aides of his uncle, Jang Song-Thaek, and other family members who are believed to have been sent to labour camps.

'Our party's timely, accurate decision to purge the anti-party, anti-revolutionary elements helped greatly cement solidarity within our party,' said Kim, adding that 'factionalist filth' had been 'eliminated.'

His statement on state tv was the first time he had publicly criticised his uncle, who was executed on December 12 after he was accused of treason, corruption, following the ways of the hated West, and being a womaniser.

In its announcement of the sentence, the North Korean regime described Jang as 'despicable human scum', who was 'worse than a dog'.

Furthermore, he 'perpetrated thrice-cursed acts of treachery in betrayal of such profound trust and warmest paternal love shown by the Party and the leader for him'.

His supposed crimes against the regime included having 'improper relations with several women' and having 'wined and dined at back parlours of deluxe restaurants'.

In addition, Jang was said to have 'squandered foreign currency at casinos while he was receiving medical treatment in a foreign country under the care of the party'.

Worst of all perhaps, in the twisted logic of this supposed workers' paradise, was that Jang was guilty of 'such factional acts as dreaming different dreams'.

Although Jang had played a major role in helping the inexperienced Kim after the younger man had taken power following the death of his father, Kim Jong-Il in December 2011, the new leader is believed to have felt threatened by Jang's power.

Observers in neighbouring South Korea agree that Kim has been running a 'reign of terror' in carrying out a 'massive purge' to consolidate his grip.

Kim also used his New Year message to warn that the Korean peninsula would be engulfed by a 'massive nuclear disaster' if war broke out there again – a reference to the Korean war of the early 1950s when South Korea, supported by the United Nations, fought with North Korea which was at one time supported by China and the Soviet Union.
'If the war breaks out again in this land, it will bring about a massive nuclear disaster and the US will never be safe,' he warned.

Before issuing his New Year message, Kim warmly wrapped in a thick coat and a bearskin hat, visited his pet project, the Masik Pass Ski Resort, lauded by state media as having been completed at 'lightning speed'.

Kim took a test ride on a ski lift, rising up over the project that he said during an earlier visit was 'at the centre of the world's attention'.

Romance6 Manly Qualities In Men That Women Absolutely Dig by reganvida(op): 10:17pm On Jan 03, 2014
It's not just about being tall, dark and handsome. There are certain ‘manly’ qualities about guys that can make any woman go weak in her knees. And while you may think it’s all about the looks, guess what? There’s more. It’s a potent mix of both, physical attributes and of course, that all important emotional touch. Here, we tell you about six points you need to heed.

1. Well groomed
Yes, we said tall but the reality is that height is really not as important a factor as how you present yourself. Just like guys like a women who is well turned out, women too dig guys who ensure that they are perfectly groomed a la Leonardo DiCaprio. The basic funda women believe in is that if you are careful enough to take care of yourself, they can trust you to take care of them. So, remember guys, sloppy dressing, uncombed hair, dirty nails, smelly socks, stained shirts or jeans and the likes are an absolute no-no when you are trying to make that all important impression on someone from the opposite sex.

2. A sense of style
Women would rather have you splurging on them than on obscenely priced designer wear. So, even if it’s a typical roadside purchase that you swear by, make sure you adopt a certain classy and stylised look and maintain it. Women don’t really expect you to be a picture copy of a Pierce Brosnan or a David Beckham, but trying to imitate their style will surely up your popularity quotient. Keep yourself updated on the latest trends. Also, just as you have your reservations against the ‘nun-type’ dressers, women too hesitate when it comes to the boring office type dresser.

3. Laugh it out
One of the most important trait that woman dig is a sense of humour. Women have more than enough problems to deal with and don’t really need the company of another equally depressed soul. Yes, you have your bad days, but it does go a long way if you have a good sense of humour, and clean humour at that. Beware, taking a dig at others and constantly putting others down do not really spell fun for women. And we can’t tell you enough how much women love people who can laugh at themselves and their own mistakes.

4. Show them you care
Women need to be constantly reassured that they are loved and cared for. Acts like holding their hand while walking down the road, watching the sunset, an occasional hug and peck on the cheeks and making sure that they cross the road safely mean that you are proud to be seen with them and care for them. Remember, not displaying your affection openly is a sign that you are ashamed of who you are with. However, beware of being crass while displaying you affections.

5. A sexy smile/wink
There’s a reason why women absolutely adore Richard Gere or Hugh Jackman and it has a lot to do with the way that they smile or that glint in their eyes. Believe us when we tell you that if you look at them and smile like that, it does make them feel very special, like they are one in a million.

6. Be calm
Woman are known to be harrowed and frenzied. Yes, they do tend to get hyper very easily and that is the precise reason why you need to be the calming factor in their lives. It really doesn’t help if you too get stressed out or fly off the handle at any and every incident. Your sex appeal lies as much in your looks as it does in your attitude – women dig guys with a cool and peaceful attitude, the one who is able to calm them down and reassure them that all is well.

PoliticsRivers Assembly Majority Leader, Lloyd Arrested For Double Murder by reganvida(op): 11:43am On Jan 03, 2014
The Rivers State Police Command has said it has arrested the Majority Leader of the state House of Assembly, Hon. Chidi Llyod, for the alleged murder of Police Sgt. Urang Obediah and Mr. Kingsley Ejeuo,

his kinsman and arch political opponent.

A statement issued by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Ahmad Muhammad, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), yesterday night said Lloyd was arrested on his way to the Air Force Base airstrip to escape justice.

The statement said Lloyd had last Monday, while pursuing Ejeuo, knocked down Obediah, who was trying to stop him, killed him and went ahead to crush the Volkswagen Passat car Ejeuo was driving in and also killed him.

Muhammad said the police initially thought the incident was a mere accident, which ought to have been manslaughter.

He, however, said the police had to change their mind when the Commissioner of Police, Joseph Mbu, directed the Area Commander, Metro Police, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Garba, to visit Lloyd in his hospital bed and commiserate with him.

He said, conscious of what he did, Lloyd relocated to another hospital when facts emerged that he (Lloyd) drove a bullet proof vehicle, while pursuing the late Ejeuo and in the process knocked down Obediah, who died on the spot and moved ahead to smash Ejuo in his Passat car.

According to the PPRO, "Late Mr. Kingsley Ejeuo, who hailed from the same place with Hon. Chidi Lloyd is believed to be in the PDP camp led by Mr. Felix Obuah."

He said: "While being guarded by four policemen in his hospital bed, he (Lloyd) sneaked out through the hospital's back door and was driven in three tinted bullet-proof jeeps and escaped."
Muhammad also said: "On receipt of the information of the escape of Chidi Lloyd, the Commissioner of Police, CP. Mbu J. Mbu, directed for a thorough search on all jeeps, while the CP himself personally drove to the Air Force base, where he met Governor Rotimi Amaechi and a private jet waiting for take off.

"As soon as he (the police commissioner) alighted, he saluted the governor, the governor ignored him and showered rain of abuses on the commissioner of police but the CP kept calm.

Unfortunately for Chidi Lloyd, the eagle-eyed police patrol vehicles intercepted him and the CP was informed immediately and he left the Air Force base to his office, ignoring the abuses from the governor. After waiting in vain for Chidi Lloyd's arrival, Amaechi boarded his jet and took off in anger."

When contacted for his reaction, the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the governor, Mr. David Iyorfor, said: "It's most preposterous and outrageous for the police to say that.
Escape to where? Does it make any sense to escape from Port Harcourt to Abuja? Is Abuja not within the Federal Republic of Nigeria? It's a blatant lie."

Lloyd was at the centre of the fracas which broke out in the assembly on July 9, 2013 when he used the mace to break the head of one of the anti-Amaechi lawmakers, Hon. Michael Chindah, an incident that drew world-wide attention

SportsMourinho Promotes Omeruo To First Team by reganvida(op): 7:42am On Dec 26, 2013
http://ipaidabribenaija.com/news/item/69562-mourinho-promotes-omeruo-to-first-team

Kenneth Omeruo received a massive boost to his Chelsea future after manager Jose Mourinho ordered he stop training with the reserves. "Mourinho has directed that Kenneth only train with the main squad

of Chelsea and no longer with the reserves," Omeruo's adviser Chika Akujobi informed MTNFootball.com

"This clearly shows the increased confidence the coach has in the player."

However, it is most likely the Nigeria international defender will still be shipped out of loan when the winter transfer window opens next month.

"Chelsea are studying various loan offers for Kenneth. They want him to enjoy regular playing time and so will work with a club who can guarantee this," Akujobi said.

"But most importantly they want him to stay back in England."

There have been several interests for the Eagles star mostly from clubs in the English Championship.

Omeruo, who first played on loan for a season and a half at Dutch club ADO Den Haag, will need to start playing first-team football in the new year, which is also a World Cup year.

PoliticsJonathan Drags Obasanjo To Rights Commission Over Criminal Allegations by reganvida(op): 11:25am On Dec 25, 2013
President Jonathan Goodluck on Tuesday submitted himself to the National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, for probe over criminal allegations against him by former President Olusegun Obasanjo. Former

President Obasanjo had written an 18-page open letter to Jonathan, accusing him of incompetence, engaging in anti-party activities, ethnicism and training about 1,000 snipers ahead of the 2015 polls.

Jonathan, who denied the allegations in his response, is specifically inviting the rights commission to unravel the truth in the allegation that his government had begun training over 1,000 snipers to terminate his political opponents.

In a letter to the commission, President Jonathan is seeking for a thorough investigation of the allegations against him, touching on alleged human rights abuses.

The letter, signed by the Attorney-General of the Federation, Mr. Mohammed Adoke, SAN, on the directive of Jonathan, had already been submitted to NHRC.

The letter dated December 23, 2013 was submitted on Tuesday. Sources close to the Presidency told National Mirror that similar letters had been written to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

The two anti-graft agencies are to probe allegations of economic crimes and official corruption against the Jonathan's administration as contained in Obasanjo's letter.

Although, National Mirror could not get copies of the letters, a copy of Jonathan's letter to NHRC confirmed on Monday that both the ICPC and the EFCC had also been directed to handle allegations touching on economic crimes.

In the memo signed by Adoke (SAN) and addressed to the Executive Secretary of the NHRC, Prof. Bem Angwe, the AGF requested the commission to investigate the allegations on the human rights violations contained on pages 9-10 of the letter dated December 2 written by former President Obasanjo to President Jonathan.

The memo with number HAGF/NHRC2013/Vol2/5 reads in part: "Re: Before it is too late: "May I draw your attention to the above and the attached State House memorandum dated December 23, 2013 in respect of the above subject matter.

"I am to request you to investigate the allegations bothering on the human rights violations contained on pages 9-10 of the latter dated 2nd December 2013, written by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, to President Goodluck Jonathan, attached to the memorandum under reference.

"In order to properly delineate the issues within your sphere of competence particularly as other issues raised in the letter are being investigated by appropriate agencies of government, I have decided to reproduce the relevant paragraphs below.

According to Adoke the paragraphs to be investigated by the commission are: "Allegations of keeping over 1,000 people on political watch list rather than criminal or security watch list and training snippets and other armed personnel secretly and clandestinely acquiring weapons to match for purposes like Abacha and training them where Abacha trained his own killers, if it is true, it cannot augur well for the initiator, the government and people of Nigeria. "Here again, there is lesson of his to learn from anybody who cares to learn from history.

Mr. President would always remember that he was elected to maintain security for all Nigerians for personal or political ambition or interest of anyone.

"The Yoruba race adage says 'the man with whose head coconut is broken may not live to savour the taste of the succulent fruit'. Those who advise you to go hard on those who oppose you are your worst enemies.

"Democratic politics admits and is permissible of supporters and opponents. When the consequences come, those who have wrongly advised you will not be there to help carry the can. Egypt must teach some lessons. "Presidential assistance for a murderer to evade justice and presidential delegation to welcome him home can only be in bad taste generally but particularly to the family of the victim. "Assisting criminals to evade justice cannot be part of the job of the presidency. Or, as it is viewed in some quarters, is he being recruited to do for you what he had done for Abacha in the past? Hopefully, he should have learnt his lesson.

Let us continue to watch," the memo added. The Presidency had attached two exhibits to the letter including the original letter written by Obasanjo and the reply by President Jonathan.

Both letters were replete with accusations and counter- accusations, some of which were criminal. National Mirror gathered yesterday that the NHRC would invite the two dramatis personae in the crisis: former President Olusegun Obasanjo and President Jonathan to expatiate on the allegations contained in the two letters.

A source at the commission, who did not want his name mentioned, also said that those connected in the allegations would be invited to assist the rights commission by providing particulars to the allegations. The particulars, National Mirror learnt, would guide the commission to arrive at a just conclusion on the sensitive issue. Although the commission had acknowledged the letter, no formal step has so far been taken on it.
PoliticsExclusive Interview With Winne Mandela. by reganvida(op): 8:36am On Dec 15, 2013
Winnie Madikizela-Mandela broke down when the soldiers came to take Madiba's body away. And then she had to endure seeing him lying in state – in the full glare of the world. In an exclusive interview

to be aired on Britain's ITV on Friday night, Madikizela-Mandela says the doctors did not expect Nelson Mandela to survive more than a week after he was discharged from hospital earlier this year.

"Tata had been in pain for so long he was actually described by his doctors as a medical miracle. What my little sister, Graça, told me in fact was that when he was discharged from hospital, the doctors were sceptical and... in their view thought it wouldn't take longer than three days.

"But they assured us all the time he was not in pain, he had enough medication so we never knew exactly when he was in pain because he had so much medical attention," she tells ITV News's Mark Austin.

Madikizela-Mandela was with her former husband when he died last Thursday evening. She had been alerted to his condition by her daughter Zindzi in London, so she phoned Mandela's doctor.
IOLdec 13 Mandela-Nelson and Winnie~2

"He said: 'No, Mama, I think you'd better visit.' He had never used that word before. When he spoke like that... I knew there was a very serious problem.

"When I got there, I had that heavy feeling that something was wrong. I could sense that perhaps we had reached the end of the road. I got upstairs and the doctors were standing around him. They told me I should move close to him. I went close to him and I noticed he was breathing really slowly. I was holding him trying to feel his temperature and he felt cold."

Madikizela-Mandela said she kept vigil at Mandela's bedside for almost four hours.

"Then he drew his last breath and just rested... He was gone."

Madikizela-Mandela said she had been blessed to be with Mandela at the end.

"I realised that God was very kind to us. He had given us such a long time for us to say goodbye. I realised all along as human beings I honestly could not find myself saying 'it is time' but I knew we had reached the end.

"You get this numb feeling. You don't react to that. I can't describe that kind of sorrow. Even though he was 95 and had done so much, there was so much that was still not done. I felt in his case he had completed his journey. It was inevitable. It had to come sometime."

Madikizela-Mandela said she and the family were struggling, but had been buoyed by the outpouring of love and support from the entire nation and from around the world.

"It's a very difficult time. One never prepares for death. I don't think it's possible."

She couldn't contain herself when the SANDF soldiers arrived to take her former husband's body away. "The doctors had done their part and (the soldiers) had to prepare him.

"But when the army came so solemn, so dignified, it was a very moving moment indeed. They went upstairs after the doctors had been with Tata for about two hours preparing him, they went upstairs.

"They saluted. The president was already there with members of the family. They saluted and marched upstairs and they came down so ceremoniously. The whole thing was so official. It struck me then, he was gone, and that was the last journey for him."

Seeing Madiba lie in state was unbearable, she tells ITV.

"In our African tradition we don't display the departed. It's very hard for the family to even share him, even in his death, after sharing with the whole world and our whole country while he was alive.

"He's still not really just ours, the family; he still belongs to the whole world and we have to share. The moment other families... it's so private that sometimes it's just the family. Here we are, the family still having to share him. It was yet another pain... one of those pains. Nothing I could do about it."

Madikizela-Mandela said she would remember Mandela as he had been, "everything he was to the family. Everything he was to the country. Above all his legacy. At no point did he ever think of himself".

"We've never used 'I' in this family, we've always been 'we'. Because of the type of person he was. We shared everything. His whole life belonged to the nation and to the world and that's how I will remember him. He never thought of himself at any stage. He gave up everything for his nation."

Their love affair, she said, had been run through letters, rather than physically. "I had very little time to love him and be with him because he was jailed and I didn't live there with him before then because he was in the treason trial. Then he was in the state of emergency. Then he was jailed. Then he was a black pimpernel. We never had time to love each other as we did theoretically."

But Madikizela-Mandela has no regrets.

"You wouldn't have the liberation South Africa has today if I hadn't done that. I would do that 100 times more. I need to go back to those days. We had to fight that bitter struggle. I would do it all over again. There is no greater reward than the one we both had of a liberated South Africa. He would not have survived in prison if I hadn't deliberately exposed myself to all that I went for. I violated every law that was passed by an illegitimate government."

Madikizela-Mandela told ITV she had always supported Graça Machel.

"She has been a little sister to me. Ever since Zindzi put us together when her son, my grandson, was on his journey of manhood. There was a ceremony at home and I was compelled to go there because traditionally we all had to be there and that was the first time we bonded. There has never been any differences between us. We are family. She is just my little sister to me and I will always be her big sister."

Madikizela-Mandela tells ITV she will remain the most senior member of the Mandela family even though Machel is the widow. "It's not a case of assuming anything. It's the traditional right. No one can wish me away as senior head of the family with the elders of course."

Politically, Madikizela-Mandela will continue to fight for the country.

She tells ITV she will not follow Mandela's work, but do her own.

"I never followed anybody. I will always follow myself. When I commit myself to my country it isn't to emulate anybody. I am just me. Always be individual."

South Africa will survive Mandela's death, she says.

"The African National Congress is very rich in leadership. It's one thing God has given to us.

"There is no stage where there has been no leadership in our country.

Sepp360: a Story that touch!
This story really surprised me considering what we fans do today without knowing the compassion these clubs had for each other before we were even born.

They are supposed to be the best of enemies: the socialists revered by the Stretford End and the club who were supported by Franco and have raided Manchester United’s academy.

Who can forget the hatred in the words of Sir Alex Ferguson just five years ago when he said, as Real Madrid pursued Cristiano Ronaldo, they were a “mob” to whom he would not sell “a virus”.

But relations between the clubs, which have thawed a little since Jose Mourinho’s arrival in Spain, have a much happier history. Not least in the famous friendship between Santiago Bernabeu, the old Madrid president, whose name was given to the ground United will play in, and Sir Matt Busby 50 years ago.

The story of it is revealed in John Ludden’s book A Tale of Two Cities: Manchester and Madrid 1957-1968 and Ludden told The Independent he was surprised there is some modern animosity between the clubs. “When you look back on the history and you see what Real Madrid did for United after Munich.” he said, “It’s incredible.”

This warmth between Bernabeu and Busby grew out of mutual respect for each other’s teams, and led to some remarkable displays of generosity and charity when United were at their lowest. It grew out of the European Cup semi-final of April 1957, which Madrid won 5-3 on aggregate but were held to a stirring 2-2 draw in the second leg at Old Trafford.

Bernabeu was so impressed by the spirit and quality of United’s young side that he offered Busby a job. The Scot, though, was desperate to win in Europe with United, and said no.

Ten months later, United’s young team was devastated by tragedy. An air crash in Munich, 55 years ago last week, killed eight players, three staff and 10 others. They had just won a European Cup quarter-final. The dream of Busby’s side conquering Europe looked over.

United lost their semi-final to Milan three months after the crash but Milan were beaten 3-2 by Real Madrid in the final. Bernabeu, dedicated the win to his fallen friends from Manchester and even offered United the trophy, though it  was turned down.

If that offer was purely symbolic there were material pledges too, most significantly the offer to loan United the world’s finest footballer, Alfredo di Stefano, “the Blond Arrow”, for the 1958-59 season. “Bernabeu went to see Di Stefano about this,” Ludden said. “He was willing to go until the end of the season, United paying half his wages and Madrid the other half. But the Football Association blocked it as he would be taking the place of a potential British player.”

So Madrid helped in different ways. They made a memorial pennant with the names of the Munich dead, called “Champions of Honour”, which was sold in Spain to raise money for United. There were offers to the injured and bereaved to recuperate at Madrid’s luxurious facilities in Spain at no cost.

There was also a series of fund-raising friendlies between the two teams. As well as the human and sporting cost, the Munich disaster had hit United’s finances. Real Madrid usually charged £12,000 for such games, but Bernabeu told United “pay what you can afford”.

These games were not just fund-raisers, though. “United could not even dream of Europe, it was more a case of staying up [in the First Division],” said Ludden. “So Busby’s idea was to keep the idea of Europe alive for the fans and players. It gave the players a level – of Ferenc Puskas and Di Stefano – they had to get to if United were to get back in Europe.”

In October 1959 Madrid won the first friendly 6-1 in front of 63,000 at Old Trafford, with Di Stefano, Puskas and Francisco Gento outstanding.

Madrid won the re-match the following month 6-5, a remarkable game watched by 80,000 entranced fans, who applauded both teams off. That evening Madrid organised a fund-raising banquet for the bereaved families of Munich in which Bernabeu said Busby was “not only the bravest, but the greatest man I have ever met in football”.

For the next friendly, in October 1960, Puskas and Di Stefano were injury doubts. Bernabeu asked Busby if he wanted to postpone the game but United’s manager insisted, saying that Madrid “had become like family”. Puskas and Di Stefano were so impressed they played anyway and helped produce another classic, which Madrid won 3-2.

United were getting closer and in the next friendly in December 1961 they beat Madrid 3-1, and the following September won 2-0 in the Bernabeu. United won the FA Cup that season, the first trophy after Munich, and the title followed before the European Cup in 1968, United overcoming Madrid in the semi-finals on their way to the prize Busby had driven his rebuilt team towards for 10 years.

“If it had to be anyone, then I am glad it was them,” said a gracious Bernabeu afterwards. He had played his own part in their resurrection.

Christianity EtcPilgrimage In Nigeria A Waste Of Money?? by reganvida(op): 3:09pm On Dec 08, 2013
Pilgrimage is a journey or search for moral or spritual significance.
Going for pilgrimage in Nigeria has been a yearly affair which the government has steadily sponsored.Recently,i read here on nairaland about some pligrims who absconded in Israel and the thought came to me,does the embarkment of these pilgrimages satisfy its purpose? When someone who has travelled for a pligrimage can run away in the said country, then we must know the person never went there for moral or spritual reasons.
This brings back the question, are pilgrimages which are sponsored by the goverrnment a waste of money? Since most people who embark on it these do so because of their own ulterior motives.

RomanceSleeping With Another Man's Wife. by reganvida(op): 11:30am On Dec 05, 2013
I have heard people warn young men that they shouldnt try in their life to sleep with another man's wife because if he gets married another person will do same to his wife.
My question is, does karma cause the guy to marry a loose wife so that another guy can do same to him? or will karma make a good wife he married loose so that he will get same treatment?
