He is now International Director for Micah Challenge, a global Christian response to extreme poverty.

Joel was also co-Chair of Micah Challenge from 2004-2007.

Prior to his role within Micah Challenge, Joel was General Director of the Evangelical Alliance UK, a post he held for over 10 years.

Joel is committed to harmonise matters of faith in the public square, and to advocate on behalf of the world’s poor.

Joel continues to hold a number of other roles, including serving as an Advisory Member of Tony Blair’s Faith Foundation, and was formerly a Commissioner on the Equality and Human Rights Commission for the UK.

A regular broadcaster with the BBC and other UK and international media channels, Joel is often asked to bring a Christian perspective to current issues.

Developing News: U.K. investigates Winners’ Chapel
over alleged misappropriation of N4bn tithes by
Nicholas Ibekwe David Oyedepo is allegedly the richest pastor in
Nigeria. The United Kingdom’s Charity Commission is
investigating the U.K. branch of David Oyedepo’s
Winner Chapel over the alleged misappropriation of
at least £16 million (N4 billion) collected as tithes
between 2008 and 2011, the U.K. Guardian is reporting.... Over N250 million (£1 million) of that
amount is said to have been repatriated to the
Nigeria headquarters of the church between 2009
and 2011, the church’s account shows. A
spokesperson of the charity commission told the
Guardian newspapers that investigations “regarding the charity’s management and policies” are on-
going. “We have considered documents and
information shared by the trustees and our case is
continuing,” she said. The congregants of the U.K.
branch of the church are allegedly given credit cards
forms to make donations as they arrive for service. The forms are inscribed with a verse from the Bible’s
Book of Corinthians which reads, “God loveth a
cheerful giver.” Documents submitted to the Charity
Commission show the parent organisation of the
church, £8 million rich World Mission Agency, makes
paltry donations to charity causes. Its books shows it donated N2.6 million (£10,500) to Great Ormond
Street Children’s hospital and N2.2 million (£9,000) to
Christian Aid for the Haiti earthquake appeal and
N625, 000 (£2,500) to charities in the Lewisham area
of London. In contrast, it transferred N81.2 million
(£324,683) and N165.8 million (£663,532) to world headquarters in Nigeria in 2010 and 2011
respectively. In 2009 and 2010 N48, 000,000 was
set aside for “welfare assistance” for unnamed
“certain member of the church.” The Church also
claimed it spent N37.25million “for charitable
activities in Africa.” David Oyedepo, who is believed to be the richest pastor in Nigeria, lives a life of
opulence. He, through his church, owns at least three
private jets and one of the most expensive private
universities in the country. The Nigerian
headquarters of the church prides itself as having the
biggest church auditorium in the world. The auditorium sits over 50,000 congregants. “All of us
have a growing concern about any kind of
mercenary response that puts cash at the centre of
Christian faith. I challenge any movement, including
Winners, to be open and account for its money
wherever it goes because it comes originally from hard-working faithful people,” said Joel Edwards, a
senior figure in the British evangelical movement and
director of the Micah Challenge which is running
Exposed, a global anti-corruption campaign directed
at churches, business and government.

The Muslim Brotherhood said Thursday that
nothing will stop its "glorious revolution" in
Egypt -- not even the deaths of more than 500
people killed in the country's bloodiest day in
recent history. "We will continue our sit-ins and demonstrations all

rule are restored in Egypt," said Essam Elerian, a

emergency that had gripped the country for 30
years. The Egyptian Health Ministry said at least 525
people died and more than 3,700 were injured
Wednesday in clashes that began when security
forces moved in to break up protesters
demonstrating in support of ousted President
Mohamed Morsy. Among the dead were 43 police officers, the interior ministry said.

Brotherhood officials displayed at least 100 bodies,
wrapped in white, blood-stained sheets, at the
Emam Mosque in Cairo, some of the 500 people the
group said were brought to the mosque after the
violence. The Muslim Brotherhood and other activists on the
ground told CNN those bodies had not yet been
registered with authorities. While Egypt's interim government said the violence
began after protesters violently resisted their
peaceful efforts to disperse pro-Morsy sit-ins,
demonstrators said security forces had staged a
"full-on assault." CNN journalists on the ground said many of those
injured or killed were unarmed. It was Egypt's
bloodiest day since the 2011 revolution to oust
Morsy's predecessor, Hosni Mubarak. The shocking violence brought criticism from
countries around the world and threatened to
further destabilize Egypt's already precarious
economy and political situation. On Wednesday, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry
called the violence "deplorable" and said it was "a
serious blow to reconciliation and the Egyptian
people's hopes for a transition towards democracy
and inclusion." An administration official said the United States was
considering canceling next month's planned
biennial military training exercise with Egyptian
forces. Denmark suspended economic aid to the country.
China urged restraint. Germany, Italy, France and
other nations summoned Egypt's ambassadors to
their nations to express dismay over the violence.

Its just as if no government exists there. Nothing in terms of infrastructures seems to be in order there. Thank God you were there in person and not some people who talk about aba without visiting the town. Aba is like a forgotten town.

Aba is all that, Aba accomodates some of the most industrious group of people in the east if not the whole of the country but where did Aba go wrong?? Where did the plans for Aba start going wrong? How can a town so blessed be cursed at the same time?? Not cursed by the creator but cursed with abject neglect and mismanagement.
I went to Aba this past week and i wept for a town i grew up in. The roads has turned to mini erosions,with a little trip from flyover in port harcourt road to the main park taking about an hour plus. Dirts are heaped at the middle of the road until d two way lane road is reduced to one way. Then you go to Ngwa road market popularly known as Ahia Ohuru there you witness the epitome of neglect. Most traders there has resorted to wearing rain boots because the road or what remains of the road is like a swamp now. When you leave there and go to ariaria market,you will weep some more,you see pple waddle through pools upon pools of water with their rainboots and buses sinking so deep into the pools of water that the water seep into d buses.
Aba has turned from a town dat had at least managable roads to a town of no road at all.many of the inhabitants has resorted to donating money to put their street roads in order so they can see where to walk when they go home.
