Dude, where have you been all this while? There is no vacancy in Aso rock...

In other words... o nweghi ebe o ji azu aga....

in other other words.... abegi somebody should break it down in Yoruba & Hausa....

All in all... we are happy with the Transformation sweeping the country.... slowly but surely.... if it aint broke, don't fix it they say.... again.... there is no NO no vacancy in Aso rock....

End of.
donphilopus: Nigerians fail to see it but this is the man who is going to deliver Nigeria from all this madness of insurgency, economic rot and education woes. In 2015, I wanna say All hail President Tinubu. The Umbrella has been replaced by the broom. I believe in APC so now he should be the Presidential candidate that has a proven record of setting the ball rolling in Lagos. He turned Lagos around then handing to his Chief of Staff who even turned it around more. This is like Obama leaving the White House and handing over to Rahm Emmanuel some day. Emmanuel was the Chief of Staff who eventually left to go back to Chicago and is now the Mayor handling Chi town’s gun violence. Remi is so vibrant as a Former First Lady and present Senator with that Hillary Clinton syndrome. These people have a record that’s PROVE.

He said the CONFAB was not necessary. The National Dialogue is a waste of time. I personally think we need Town Hall Meetings with the PRESIDENT like they do in America! Remember how I got Chief Bill Blair in Toronto to start having them when gun violence got bad? Come to the neighborhoods Mr Jonathan and I will moderate them. Nigerians need accountability!!

He returned from abroad yesterday after knee surgery. He is our future and I need to secure an interview with him. Below is the Nigerian Tribune report of his arrival.

Former governor of Lagos State, Chief Ahmed Bola Tinubu, on Saturday, arrived the country to a tumultuous welcome by governors, All Progressive Congress (APC) chieftains and party faithful, among others who thronged the Executive Jet near the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Mohammed Airport, Ikeja.
Both governors Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti) and Rauf Aregbesola (Osun) were joined by Senator Oluremi, wife of Tinubu, Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon Adeyemi Ikuforiji, former Deputy Governor Rafiu Ogunleye, Lagos APC chairman, Chief Henry Ajomale, Senator Ganiyu Solomon, Senator Olorunnimbe Mamora, commissioners and local government chairmen, to welcome the APC national leader, whose chartered plane with registration no: CS-OPF touched down at around 1:32pm from the United Kingdom.

As the plane parked and the door was opened, Tinubu’s wife, Oluremi, led the way, followed by her daughter, Folasade Ojo and governors Fayemi and Aregbesola to welcome the former, who went for a knee surgery at US and UK hospitals for two months.

The former governor later emerged at 1:38pm waving, while the crowd of supporters became ecstatic as governors and other party chieftains took turn to have snap-shots with him before he finally alighted from the plane and was led into his waiting jeep.

He later addressed the press as he spoke through the roof of the vehicle taking a swipe at President Goodluck Jonathan-led government over the recent move to convene a national conference and the air disaster that affected the corpse of former Governor Olusegun Agagu, in which 13 people died. He also spoke on his newly registered party, the APC.

Tinubu described the move by President Jonathan to hold a national conference right now in the country as unnecessary, a contradiction and a distraction, as well as a demonstration of lack of honesty and integrity on the part of the government.

The APC national leader, while querying the timing of the dialogue, asked: “When? How long have we been talking of it? It is only a very smart rodent in a house full of little crumbles of poison that will survive.”

The former governor, who further wondered why the focus on national dialogue should come around now, maintained that some salient issues had been jettisoned and should be addressed as a matter of priority.

“But Nigeria is very divisive right now, so why is this necessary? Where is the sovereignty? What about the Electoral Act, what about the Lemu Committee? Have you heard of a White Paper or green paper or pink paper come out of that for Nigerians? Why? How many months to the elections? How many months to the election?

Can’t you smell a good look porridge; can’t you smell a pit latrine and the odour of deception when it is passing by?” he queried.

He dismissed the suggestion that the election be postponed in other to have the national conference discuss the way forward for the country, saying “that is the saying of a thief, because he wants to continue to pilfer because he is enjoying as a thief.”

“What are you postponing about the election? Is it with the head you walk or with the feet? You must stand on something,” he added.

mnfargo@gmail.com

On Friday the second of August I sat alone in my living room watching the Tonight Show by Jay Leno. My phone rang, and I looked, it was my daughter Ashley calling from the United States.

"How are you daddy?" She asked excitedly.
"I'm alright darling."

"Surprise, you are still up this late."

"Yeah, I wanted to catch up on Jay's monologue on the Tonight Show before I go to bed."

In the middle of our conversation my daughter told me that she was planning to see "Great Gatsby" that evening, a movie that was just released a few days earlier. I told her that I remember the story, that I had read the novel by F. Scot Fitzgerald and seen a much earlier version of the movie in New York some twenty years ago. After the conversation I immediately checked on my phone the website of Genesis Deluxe Cinema operating at the Polo Park Shoprite mall here in Enugu. It turned out that the movie was a worldwide release, and also showing here in Enugu.

The next day I went to the mall, bought my ticket, popcorn and soda, and enjoyed the movie. When I left the cinema it was already late, about 9:45PM, and it was drizzling. As I drove out from Polo Park Mall through the well-lit dualized Abakaliki Road that led to Ogui junction, Chime Avenue junction, and ultimately into Bisala Road that leads to the Independence Layout section of town. I rarely go out at night, even when I go to the movies I try to catch an early showing in order to be home by nine o'clock. On that Saturday night, I noticed how clean and well-lit these vast networks of well-constructed roads in Enugu really are. I was so enchanted that I decided to drive around town that night and see more. I was astonished at how much this quiet sleepy Coal City has suddenly developed into a modern metropolis.

I drove through the GRA to Trans Ekulu, from Abakpa to New Heaven, then to Coal Camp. From there I drove to Achara Layout, then to Uwani, and Ogui and Asata before returning to Independence Layout. One thing I noticed is that most of the major roads were all dualized and well-lit. Even the bus stops were all ultra modern, with solar powered lights that glows through the night. On my way back, somewhere around Presidential Road, it was still drizzling, and I noticed a police car parked around the WAEC junction, its roof lights flickering in their many bright colors, and two police officers in their trench coats standing next to the car, examining a motorist's document. For a split second I thought I was somewhere in Amsterdam, or London. I had to remind myself that I was actually still here in Enugu.

It was not as if all these happened overnight, not quite, I had witnessed most of these transformations as they came, but this singular experience has made me to take stock in the city where I now call home. I must confess that I'm rather pleasantly surprised at how much Enugu has changed for the better. Though just one of the five state capitals in the Southeast, Enugu has for long been regarded as the headquarters of Igbo land. Perhaps this was as a result of its role as the former capital of the Eastern region. Whatever the reason, most Igbo heavyweights still make their homes here even if they are based in Abuja or Lagos. Nine out of ten of all Igbo big men, from Ekwueme to Ojukwu, from Iwuanyanwu to Arthur Eze, from Soludo to Ekweremadu and so forth all have a home here.

My dear brother, I have stopped asking them that question, their usual response is (what Kats said to Naijaking on this thread, being) emotional, or more like "emotional BS"...

There was once a thread I believe it was Onlytruth that made a comment along the lines of Igbos having checks and balances that guide their behavior..... and our brothers on the other side of the Niger didn't understand what he meant and were taking it out of context etc...

When you think you've seen the lowest one can go.... you get proved wrong by something worse.... and if you express your shock or disbelief and passionate disapproval... before you know it they've dribbled you (if you try to follow their reasoning) back to your own business/behavior and never respond to the main issue raised...
(again, read Naijakings direct question at Kats and see if you can place a finger on what exactly his response was.... )

so that is why I now just let them be, and as I've said, focus on setting the records straight and pointing out any lies being mixed up with facts that have been coated to lead on gullible minds...

Also, I know that such people in real life... are usually a shadow of what they come on NL to do gra gra ...

You see, there are a thousand and one ways/direction things could have gone with changes in one of the variable/action or the other/reactions...

I am sure you know what is dubbed "in the heat of the moment"... and how, in judicial law/courts, one's action in this "heat of the moment" is looked at and judged differently from actions otherwise - which are NOT in the heat of the moment... i.e. they had no preconceived plan of action.

Keeping that aside, hindsight, they say, is 20/20, we now know what Ironsi did, and what the result of his actions were... so while "watching" this "video" of what did... it is easy... very very easy to judge him and say "He shouldn't have done this/that"...... even more crafty in my opinion, is what Kats has been doing on this forum and this thread, going from the resultant action and cherry-picking those actions of Ironsi that leads him straight to the result of what befell him and others.... (yet, without hindsight.. Kats himself might have done the same things.... )

Was Ojukwu or the Igbo "neutral"? because based on your judgment above, NOBODY should be believed!

I have learnt a great deal more from this thread though I read the Aburi accord, The 5 majors and Why we struck about 30 years ago!

The question that has come to mind over and over is "what if Ironsi didn't take over? In effect, what if Diphcharima had been sworn in thus allowing the coup plotters to have been sanctioned? Would that NOT have saved the Igbo race who ended up with such tragedy, from the fallout of wrong doing by a few people?

Seems to me the desire to save a few of his "boys" cost Ironsi, not just his life, but also the lives of millions in a senseless war!

NOT leadership or statemanship qualities!
Hey, if you don't mind, can you tell me where to get the book? Purchase it, I mean... and which other book or books about the civil war do you recommend or think gives a balanced view or perspective, but detailed accounts of the events leading up to and up until just after the war... early 70s to 80 or mid 80s... thanks in advance.

PhysicsQED: @ DerideGull,

Whenever you return to the thread, I have another question, and I hope you can explain this to me because something seems a bit puzzling about your current list right now. You mentioned Captain A.G. Ozumba in your list that you posted earlier in this thread. But wasn't A.G. Ozumba a captain in the Nigerian Navy, not the Army? I have the same question about Captain E Ukiwe that you mentioned as well. If I am mistaken on this count, please give a correction and an explanation of when they became officers in the Navy or if they never did. It seems some of those on your list were in the armed forces, but not in the Army.

I went back to look at Luckham's book (because I thought I might be able to discover how you and Luckham were arriving at different figures on a rather simple and straightforward question), only to find that those particular statistics in Luckham's book (511 officers, 330 of these being combat status officers) are for the Army, not the entire military and he explicitly says that he's referring only to the Army, not the entire Armed Forces, in those instances where he's talking about those 330 officers.

I suspect that you and Katsumoto can come closer to reaching a consensus on this issue if it is made more explicit whether you guys are talking about one particular branch of the armed forces (the Army) or about the entire military. Honestly, it's not clear which of these two groups (the Army, or the entire military) this officers disagreement between you and Katsumoto was truly about and I think that in the course of your debates, it may have become unclear which group (the Army alone, or the entire military) was being considered. For example, in your post earlier in this thread where you listed those Igbo officers, before the names in the list, you wrote above that:

"Igbo Officers in Nigerian Army as of January 15, 1966 by Dede1"

So one would think that you really meant the Nigerian Army. However, in your most recent comment towards me, where you quoted me, you said:

"Dede1 has painstakingly listed the names and ranks of Igbo officers in Nigerian armed forces from Major General to Captain as of January 15, 1966"

So, in this instance, one would think you really meant the entire Nigerian armed forces.

There seems to be a disconnect between those two statements.

I guess the issue really is, what are you and Katsumoto disagreeing about - the ethnic composition of the officers in the Nigerian Army as of January 1966, or the ethnic composition of the officers in the entire Nigerian Armed Forces as of January 1966?

@ Katsumoto,

What do you think of the part in pp. 47-50 of the book (in the section called 'The spectre of tribalism'), where Luckham casts serious doubt (with what I think is a rather convincing argument) on the idea of it being an "Igbo coup"? I remember we discussed this issue before a long time ago, but I think Luckham makes a better argument than I did against the idea (although he doesn't talk much about the political climate in that particular section of the book). Is there some particular reason that you think Luckham's doubts (against the "Igbo coup" idea) are misguided or unconvincing?

That they feel they have to go so low and lie makes me wonder why. Whythe desperation to, not only make such allegations, but start spreading it even in newspapers... and now on online social media.

The only guess I can make is fear; fear of intimidation and fear of the unknown coming from the Igbos... so making sure that the Igbos feel and even successfully subjugated, they won't have to worry about competition, whether it be for power, development, the economy etc...

(You can see how one of the oafs on this thread - from nowhere - brought in one of their favorite songs of 'Igbos can and will never be president' where the topic is about a coup decades ago. So you see the crab mentality syndrome where they do not want others to step up to the plate and would rather stay in the mess we call a country together.

But you see, all the noise they make online, all the policies they've used right back from the days of Awolowo up to date, all the propaganda they've been spreading to seem as the "good guys" and others/Igbos as the "bad guys" has not made or left them any better than any other region in Nigeria.

As far as I know, the Igbos of today kno better, those whom are friends/partner/brother and those whom are covettting their property across Nigeria.
nku5: I don't want to call you a liar. Just substantiate these things you have described in such rich detail. Any account, book excerpt, anything with substance will be appreciated. All this sort of beer parlour talk is what led to the deaths of thousands of innocent people. I remember when a yoruba poster a while ago printed a page, put in a bread wrapper and posted a picture of it on NL to claim that it was printed by igbos in 1966 to celebrate the coup. My brother, you have a better chance building a castle in the air that getting the people you are trying to advise be able to see and hold individuals responsible for their actions, as opposed to the culprits ethnic group...

Its not more than 24 hours ago that I posted on another thread how some will look at a group of people and see "Nigerians with varying skills," while another will se "2 hausas, 3 Efiks and so on"

Sincere 9gerian: I know you'r ready for an endless debate and determined force your narrative/propaganda down our throat. But I am not ready for such.

Let me make this LAST POINT. My message is simple- let us separate INDIVIDUALS from their TRIBE. Ifeajuna and Okafor were Igbos but they were not synonymous with Igbo. So also Chief Awo was not synonymous with yoruba. People should be held responsible for their actions or inactions.

Perhaps, if the first coup had succeeded we would have known the true intentions of the key players. But it didn't succeed. The rest is history and speculations. But INDIVIDUALS until start taking responsibility for their actions or inactions, we will not see the desired progress.

The line of thought of people like you (seeking ETHNIC undertone to any issue) is what has held this country down for decades.

Orlando Owoh: Is it not stupìdity and a slap on your old age that you cannot refute what I have said but resorted to name - calling. Shame on you. Age is a mere appendage of number. You are not mature. Agadi nwoke ne gi amu ya na gba egwuregwu. Na me and you for this forum.

Bia, this oily head skunk, go to the kids section and let mature minds talk, keep and eat your presidency of a fallen country to yourself... we've seen how Obj's 8 years improved your standard of living and your IGR and GDP so high, yet your uncle and his family still can't afford beans for 550 naira.

Go and chop (oily beans) belle full first before making another comment on here... ewu gambia.

Orlando Owoh: They are now paying for their selfishness and greed: none of them will rule this country. They know this hence their always queuing and shifting the goal post of when they will produce the president: from 2015 to 2019. Waiting without an end. Una never see anything. They have resorted to be backing Ijaw, an ethnic group they suppressed in the defunct Eastern Region, which they are counting on to have over power to them in 2019, as if the Presidency is a rellay race baton.

lol my brother, they can't help themselves... they love Igbos and hate them too.... they don't know what they want - they say Igbos should leave Lagos which they wish and claim is "Yoruba land" lol.... but any sign that shos needed infrastructural development in the east... you see them becoming analysts to start pointing out why Enugu doesn't need an international airport or why Aba is not a good place to build a mega mall but Lagos and Ogun.... (again where they want Igbos to evacuate for them)...... I mean... what do you call that kind of problem....

That's why you see them clowns calling others clowns... lol as I keep saying... the joke is on them...

B2 mario: my dear what change are you talking about, please shun the matter because your arguement is not constructive, many construction companies in nigeria are scam even your popular julius berger, the main thing is how you inspect and follow them up. Your criticism is not just because of the construction company but your hatred for SE. Please already we have many companies here in Aba; NB, uniliver, PZ, Guiness, coca-cola, 7up, valumbra, bonemax, tonimax, saclux, dutch, NNPC, clover etc, they are numerous. So man rest!

honestly, you didn't miss much, bro...

Its the usual green snake in the green grass Kats putting his legendary spin on facts and figures... and getting cheered on by his brothers that swallow hook, line and sinker everything he says and thanks him for it lol...

only that this time its Usenis (Hausa) interview that's giving them the opportunity to raise and spew all the issues they've been having against Ndigbo... and the words they've chosen is "grab at power..." or "power play" by the Igbos...

... then the usual suspects vomit more and more unrevelant comments just to answer "present" lol
ACM10: How did I miss this thread? angry
PoliticsRe: Are You Interested In Moderating This Section? by remarkD(m): 6:16am On Sep 30, 2013
Politics section is not for "softies"...

so if in search of a femal mod. I nominate Babyosisi...

(I see her almost as the female version of sexkills... she doesn't give a damn and will place a derailing poster where he or she belongs... in the banned room/corner... )

Those calling her tribalists (and thus not to be considered)... are definitely those she had dealt with before (whom did need to be discipline... so with a ban stick... I am sure she can get the job done.

As for "Berom"... I believe there has been some unverified comments on her M'F gender... and thus makes her an imposter... I don't recommend...

For a male mod. my nomination goes to Mr. Ndu Chuks... oh I guess I already said that... anyhoo... there ya go...

and I must point this out... where the posters that are known to be Igbo on this thread, interestingly, have not been pushing forward an "Igbo mod.".. while their main position is to pick someone based on merit... hile the northerner(s) are just sitting down watching what happens until it is "action time"...

the loudest posters on this leaves no doubt as to their ethnicity.. when they look at the mod. list... they don't see mods... they see 2 Igbos and 1 Yoruba...
(Now if you will flash back to the '50s/60s... and listen to the speech Akintola made about the VCs of 2 (federal) in the west.... he (Akintola) did not see 2 qualified human beings that were working for the development and progress of the universities (and assess their performance... ) but what he (Akintola) saw 2 Igbo men that were the "heads" in a "Yoruba land."
He made the speech over the radio... just as Jeremiah Useni has just narrated the coup he (claims) he was part of in Ironsi's death...

If Nigeria seeks to be a developed country... the issue of tribalism needs to be addressed in one way or another... unless... each time we gather, whether online or offline... as long as there are multiple groups involved and well represented... o nweghi anyi ji azu aga.
Distinguished Nairalander,

Here comes another opportunity to serve as a moderator in Nairaland.

The Politics Section needs Moderators to assist in enforcing the rules of the board and the forum. So,
PoliticsRe: Are You Interested In Moderating This Section? by remarkD(m): 1:48pm On Sep 27, 2013
I volunteer myself.

Reason: to make each thread be balanced and (help) keep all posters in (the) line of discussion.

Seun, commenting shortly after the exit of Jarus (for not wanting to moderate because a person he feels should not moderate was given the position) said he wants every thread in this section to be in the same calibre and organized exchange of ideas, thoughts, facts etc as the monthly debates were meant to be... So that will be (one of) my goals; and I would not use my position as a mod. to ban people all the time, it will be a sort of cajoling and encouraging of a straying poster to respect the forum and other members and fall in line or hold his or her silence and observe/read while those interested carry the discussion.

I have a few other things I will like to do to raise the bar on the quality of threads in this section, but I will not show "all my hand" but reserve my comments for now...

(... if I later on, forget what the main other suggestion I wanted to make, someone should remind me of the words "tive" lol thanks y'all for nominating me too smiley )
One more thing I can say now though is the possibility of having a task-force... Seun if you have any doubt, look up the real definition... these 'task forcers' I believe should not have the power to ban... rather, the way mods. recommend threads for FP, task-force members will recommend derailing posts and posters for bans. (Or if they have the power of bans too, that might, might be okay as well... ). but yeah, i'd say 2 or 3 people in this team?... could be visible or invisible/anonymous.

Lastly, Seun, well, more like before lastly, I hope the reason for choosing a fourth mod. is... well, what is your reason for needing a 4th mod.? You don't seem to have answered the question lots of posters have askedabout this... they might have some advice or input... well, what am I saying.... knowing the reputation of most posters that have been yapping... I can't be more convinced they'd have or are interested in steps that will meet the objectives ya (Seun) are working towards.

Anyways, and lastly ... is my summary of the above points and my (other) recommendation:

- I volunteer to be a mod. smiley
- I will not see the ban stick as a magic wand that will ban posters and hope/expect they return as changed people, inside and/or outside, but not both.
- What is your reason for wanting a 4th mod.? I just want to know if you & I are thinking along the same (bottom) line/page/book lol
and if I will recommend another than myself... there are some good posters... but I will vote for Ndu_chuks.... as long as the note in his ban message will not be something along the lines of ... piafukwaa gi mkpuru amu. Ewu!"... or replace "Ewu" with "Oloto...

"
Obinoscopy: We have 20 volunteers thus far! I must say we are grateful for all those who indicated interest to serve this great forum.

Those who also want to serve and have not indicated interest should please do so now. Thanks.

With the caliber of volunteers we have thus far, I am confident that we'll get a fantastic mod soon.
