The former Osun state deputy governor who was declared wanted today by EFCC for receiving N700 million from the office of the former National Security Adviser, NSA, has released a statement describing the EFCC's action as blackmail. Read the statement below.. I read the statement issued by the Econimic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) purportedly declaring me wanted as an attempt by that organisation and its leadership to tarnish my image. That statement, if indeed it was issued by the EFCC, is the height of mischief and a deliberate attempt to assassinate my character. It is now very clear that the EFCC is indeed playing out the script of persecuting and harassing perceived opposition groups in the country. To be sure, there is no basis for the EFCC so-called statement. Only on Tuesday, May 24, we appeared in court with the EFCC asking for the permission of the court for an extension of time in the preliminary objection to a suit filed against me. The Managing Director of Firmex Gill which the EFCC joined in their case indemnified me from the company's contracts and any such obligations. In other words, there is nothing relating to me in the company's contract deal with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA). The company has even sued the ONSA for its inability to pay the balance of the contract so awarded to it. Therefore, I am not aware of any issue relating to a contract sum of N700 million. There was no issue of N700 million anywhere. The relationship between the company and ONSA is civil and contractual, which has nothing to do with me. Besides, so long as their business transactions are legitimate and since I am not directly managing the company, how am I to know who and who they do business with? The EFCC should not be seen playing the role of political victimisation of innocent individuals, coercion and blackmail. Sadly that is simply what this organisation has been doing. Blackmail, I strongly believe, won't help EFCC. If the organisation and its leadership think they have any case against me, they should come to court with their facts. This act of blackmail and deliberate tarnishing the image of perceived political enemies won't help the image of the EFCC and it won't get it result. How can you declare someone you were in court with at 9.00a.m today wanted the same day, a few hours afterwards? I am appealing to all human rights and civil society organisations to caution EFCC from damaging my reputation further. If they have facts, I challenge them to bring them to court and not resort to blackmail, intimidation and victimisation. https://www.thelivefeeds.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/DSC04223-504x284.jpg The Federal Government has praised the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) for suspending its five-day-old strike. The Ayuba Wabba-led NLC had embarked on a nationwide strike on May 18 to protest government’s decision to increase the pump price of petrol from N86.50 to N145.00. The Minister for Information, Culture and Tourism, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who gave the commendation on the sideline of an interactive session with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Lagos on Monday, said the suspension of the strike was a win-win situation for Nigeria. “Nigeria has won, and I want to take this opportunity to thank the NLC for reconsidering their position and agreeing to join us in negotiation. “So, it is not who has won, but (it is) Nigeria that has won.’’ He expressed the Federal Government‘s commitment to actualising its change agenda through sustained communication between it and Nigerians. According to him, stakeholders’ meetings will further enhance information flow between government and the citizenry. “There is nothing like the government continuously engaging the people; you notice that we started this about a month or so ago when we started with our town hall meetings. “We started in Lagos, moved to Kaduna; we will be in Kano on Friday. “We have also been meeting with sectoral groups; we’ve met with the Newspapers Proprietors Association of Nigeria); we are going to meet with the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission. “I believe that it is the beginning of trying to bridge the gap between the governed and the government and it is extremely fruitful. “We’ve heard you, and learnt a lot as well; but more importantly is that we’ve been able to explain to you why certain actions were taken.” The minister further said that his ministry would hold quarterly meetings with the CSOs in order to engage Nigerians on national issues. “This is not going to be a one-of engagement. “The next time we (will) come with three or four ministers, depending on what issues are prevalent.’’ source http://www.reportnaija.com/2016/05/fg-praises-nlc-for-suspending-strike.html cc lalasticlala |

Senate President, Bukola Saraki has commended Nigerians for their patience while awaiting presidential assent to the 2016 Appropriation Act and promised that the National Assembly will ensure its proper implementation through diligent oversight. Saraki who joined Speaker Yakubu Dogara and other top government officials in witnessing the signing of the budget into law by President Muhammadu Buhari, said the responsibility is now that of both the executive and the legislature to ensure that the objectives and goals of the budget are duly realized. He called on ministers, heads of departments and agencies to hit the ground running with the implementation of the various provisions made in the budget so that the expectations of the people can be fulfilled. "On our own part as members of the National Assembly, we will closely monitor the implementation of the budget by providing effective oversight. We will also ensure that all necessary laws that will aid the transformation of the contents of the budget into practical policies, projects and programmes that will directly have positive impact on Nigerians will be put in place. That is why we have started the amendment of the Public Procurement Act to ensure that a substantial percentage of the money to be spent in the budget are made available to Nigerians through government patronage of Made-in-Nigeria goods and services." The Senate President thanked Nigerians for their continued support for the present administration and promised that now that the budget has been signed into law people will start seeing the positive impact on the economy and their standard of living. Saraki restated the National Assembly's commitment to early passage of subsequent budgets since the President had promised earlier presentation. source http://www.reportnaija.com/2016/05/2016-budget-saraki-assures-nigerians-of.html cc lalasticlala

Kaduna State Governor, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai has directed all hospitals in the state to treat persons with gun wounds and accident victims before demanding police reports. The governor said that the duty to save lives is primary, and must come ahead of formal reports to the police. The spokesman to the Governor, Samuel Aruwan, disclosed this in a statement shortly after the 15th Kaduna State Security Council meeting held in Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, Kaduna. “The Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, has directed all hospitals in the state to,with immediate effect, start treating persons with gunshot wounds and accident victims without demanding Police Report as a basis for attention. Lives must be saved first, before the formalities of demanding Police Reports from victims. After saving lives, hospitals and other agencies can start making inquiries regarding how the gunshot wounds and other injuries were sustained. We consider it a gross abdication of responsibility if any hospital leaves injured patients unattended because of the absence of Police Reports. What is important is saving lives. There is no reason for an innocent citizen who has survived armed robbery and needs treatment for a gunshot wound to be denied the medical attention he requires. The hospitals can comply with reporting requirements to the police after providing the care the patient needs. This is the unanimous resolution of the Kaduna State Security Council. As Governor, I have communicated this decision to the Kaduna State Ministry of Health and Human Services and other concerned agencies operating in the state. A moment of trauma is not the time to put paper before lives. All our healthcare agencies have been advised that it will amount to criminal neglect to deny or delay critical care to such patients.”Aruwan said The meeting of the Kaduna State Security Council which endorsed the resolution was attended by representatives of the Army, Police, Air Force, Navy, DSS, Civil Defense, FRSC, NDLEA and the Customs service. Also present at the meeting were HRH Alhaji Shehu Idris, the chairman of the Kaduna State Council of Emirs and Chiefs, Emir of Birnin Gwari, HRH Alhaji Zubairu Jibril II and Kpop Gwong, HRH Paul ZakkaWyom. Controversial writer and blogger calls Daddy Freeze out in this chilling letter for telling Nigerians not to blame President Buhari for the recent Fulani herdsmen attack... Read the chilling letter below.. Dear Daddy Freeze, is your brain still active? A freezing letter to Daddy Freeze: I have been following your posts and comments on social media, and sometimes I wonder if your brain is still active. With regard to your latest post, that we should not blame the President based on the ongoing Fulani herdsmen’s killings, well, I have reservations about that: Dear Freeze, if we don’t blame President Buhari, who then do we blame? You or your Cool FM boss? Don’t just post things you don’t know the implications on social media just because you want to still remain active in the industry. The President as the Head of State should be blamed for whatever happens in the country. As the President, he wears the crown. That’s the simple fact. If you can’t act, you move away! Because a lot of people were killed during the past administration, doesn’t justify the reason why the killings should continue… The problem is that we don’t have value for human lives, that’s why the Government is also too slow to act. Freeze, for 7 months now, my DSS brother went missing in Lagos with 6 other DSS officers, and the Nigerian Government they were working for has not responded to the situation… Please, who do I blame? You? Or your boss? It is high time you moved from radio to start your own life, which I believe will surely upgrade your reasoning. Next time you want to put out some shits on social media, please do apply a little of your common sense, that’s if you still have any, because I always freeze out each time I read them. Note: You are not safe when your neighbour’s house is on fire; wait till it gets to your zone, let’s see who you will blame! @donsainto source http://www.reportnaija.com/2016/04/don-saint-writes-freezing-letter-to.html cc lalasticlala

A 32-year old suspected phone thief, Idowu Nojeem pictured above, has been accused of beating a policeman attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of Lagos State Police Command, black and blue while attempting to rob the operative of his Tecno Y5 handset. The operative, Sergeant Oladipo Adetumbi, who was on a surveillance mission around Ikeja Under Bridge, made a frantic effort to arrest the suspect in spite of receiving several punches on his face. An eye witness who spoke on condition of anonymity, explained: "I was with the Policeman when the suspect forcefully removed the phone from the operative's front pocket. The Policeman was on a surveillance mission in the area but was not in uniform. I saw a man moving towards the sergeant but he never knew he was a policeman…. he stylishly covered his face with a newspaper, and removed the phone from his pocket. As I stood beside him when the incident occurred, we were all shocked that someone could have such an effrontery to rob while many passers-by were moving. Immediately the policeman suspected that his phone had been removed, he pulled the suspect by his shirt, but the suspect said he should forget his phone that it's gone. He started beating the policeman before we could separate them. The Police officer really showed doggedness never to allow the suspect escape because as the fight was ongoing, he still held him tight with his trousers. When it was obvious that he was gaining an upper hand, the traffic warden and other policemen close by stepped in to separate them. Then, the operative now dragged him to other RRS operatives stationed at the Under Bridge, Ikeja". While at under bridge, a lady, Adoh Nneka, also walked up to challenge this same guy for stealing her phone few hours before the incident. “I was trying to board a bus to Ogba when I sighted three guys including the suspect walking beside me. The suspect was intermittently drawing my bag from behind but I held my bag tight with me. But I didn’t know he has used a razor blade to cut the bag and took all my two phones (Tecno F5 and P5)…. Immediately I turned and checked my bag, my phones were gone. One of the passers-by, who saw the suspect when he was removing my phones, pointed at him for stealing my phone…. Truly, I saw the two phones with him from afar but I was too afraid to confront him. I was still standing there hoping for help to come…. Fortunately for me, I saw a crowd at under bridge looking at somebody. When I moved closer to know what was going on, I saw the same man (suspect) being handcuffed by the police for stealing an RRS operative’s phone…. Then, I have the guts to explain to the police that he had earlier stolen my two phones before now”she said. While confirming the arrest of the suspect, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Dolapo Badmus, affirmed that the police will not condone in any act of criminal activity, promising that efforts are in top gear to arrest other members of the syndicate. The suspect has been charged to court. source http://www.reportnaija.com/2016/04/photo-suspected-phone-thief-beats-rrs.html
