Organisers and promoters of boxing tournaments in Nigeria should take note of this if they are looking for an appropriate venue for the next important showdown among pugilists. The Niger State Government House may just as well serve that purpose.

Reason? It is now turning to a boxing arena even without a boxing ring, no thanks to some government officials and security personnel who find it difficult reining in their anger when provoked.

Sampler: Barely three weeks into the new All Progressives Congress, APC, administration in the state, two newly appointed aides directly under the Governor( names withheld) publicly exchanged
blows within the Government House. As if that show of shame was not enough, similar and more disgraceful scenarios have been unfolding in the same seat of power.


Rather too frequently, there had been exchange of angry words between top political appointees, between security agents and politicians, with press men sometimes getting involved in the ensuing fracas in the course of their normal routine assignments. Also not rare are burst ups between security agents.

The latest and most embarrassing was the sad incident which happened late Tuesday evening when no fewer than five Department State Services, DSS, personnel descended heavily on the Chief Press Secretary, CPS, to the State Governor, Dr. Ibraheem Dooba, beating him to stupor within the premises of the Government House.

The CPS was said to have gone to the office of the Deputy Governor with some visitors for an official engagement but was prevented from gaining entry into the office by some DSS officers attached to the Deputy Governor’s office.

Despite explanations by the governor’s spokesman that the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Mohammed Ketso, sent for him through the protocol officer from his office, the security officers bluntly refused him entry into the office and this led to a hot argument.

Dr. Dooba was said to have introduced himself to an DSS official by saying:

“I am the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor and I am here to see the Deputy Governor officially and on his invitation.”

The DSS official was said to have replied thus:

“Should I stand up and be dancing because you want to see the Deputy Governor?”

This infuriated the Chief Press Secretary and he was said to have slapped the securityman and left straight for his office without seeing the Deputy Governor.

The DSS man was said to have later mobilized his colleagues and stormed the Office of the CPS. They lied to the CPS that the Chief Security Officer, CSO, to Government House, Ibrahim Gambari, wanted to see him for settlement and he obliged.

But on their way to the CSO’s office, five of the DSS officers were said to have descended heavily on the CPS, kicking and hitting him all over; they tore his clothes which bore blood stains from the injuries they inflicted on him.

They insisted that he must be dragged to their state office to face other punishments, but other Government House staff quickly intervened to save the situation from degenerating into full blown chaos.

The situation also attracted the attention of the ADC to the state Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, in person of Isah Murtala Raji, who arrived the scene and prevented the irate DSS officers from taking the CPS to their office.

Similar scenario

The CPS was immediately immediately taken out of the Government House for medical check-up and did not report back to office again for the day.

Vanguard Metro reliably gathered that few hours to the sad event, a similar scenario also unfolded at the main gate of the Government House where another DSS operative had slapped a female police officer on duty.

There was said to have been a hot argument between the DSS officer and the police woman, both on duty, over who between them was duly authorised to allow visitors into the Government House.

The police woman who had been on the post for years was said to have explained to the DSS man on the need to pass one of the visitors in based on the fact that he was not a visitor but a staff. This, however, did not go down well with the male security officer who felt the police woman was trespassing and trying to control him.

The issue degenerated into a hot argument between the duo. The quick intervention of other security personnel on duty saved the situation from getting out of hand.

The Emir of Zaria, Alhaji Shehu Idris has cancelled this year's Sallah Durbar. According to BBC Hausa, the emir cancelled it due to security reasons. Recall that over 40 people were killed in a suicide attack in Sabongari, Kaduna state on July 7th.

A human rights activist named Dare claims a lady named Nkiru Obi, who gave birth to his babies in February 2014, has refused to let him see his children and he no longer has a way of contacting her. He reached to LIB for help in case anyone knows the lady. Below is his email to me...

I need assistance in tracking this lady Nkiruka Obi by name. She is based in Ugeli Delta State. She ran away with my babies. Triplet… She gave birth to them Feb 26th 2014. My family and I went to the hospital to pay the bills and also to see my wife to be and babies, but when we got there she was gone. We later found out that she left the hospital the same day. We then went to the address which she said to be her home address (No 110 Low Cost Estate, Ugeli) and found out there was no such address. We never got to see her nor by babies. She later called to give some reasons for her act.
We then made arrangement to meet her and her family for formalities and engagement. As I can recall, everything was going on fine… they gave us a date to come over. One the day of the naming ceremony, which was at my place in Lagos, non of her family came over. All they did was send names over the phone and gave excuses for not being able to appear. Nkiru and I talk on phone every day, if possible every 5 minutes. I didn’t know she was actually playing Games with me. She kept on telling me not to come over yet due to some reasons that there was a fight in her place in Ugeli Delta State which I later found out to all be fabricated. I still have not seen any of my babies for 5 Months now. All she does was make me hear their voices and send pictures over the phone.

When I decided I couldn’t take it anymore and must go to her, we then both agreed to meet on Monday 13th July 2015. All of a sudden, by late Friday 10th July all her phones were switched off. I then tried calling who she said to be her mom and dad but their phones were also off. As off today, I still haven’t heard from any of them. After making some research, I found out this is not the first time she is doing such. Now am scared she has plans to sell my babies as I found out that’s what they do now. Nigerians, please help me get my babies back. Nigerians, is this how IGBO people behave? Is it because I am YORUBA? Please contact me if you have any information regarding her whereabouts or any of her family.

The police in Ekiti State, on Wednesday, killed two suspected armed robbers in a gun duel.
It was gathered that suspected armed robbers, which witnesses claimed were Fulani, had laid siege on Ikere-Ekiti-Akure road on Tuesday afternoon and were said to have taken over the road until the police moved in.
While some of the witnesses claimed that the robbers had killed one of their victims, others said they were not aware of any death.

The Ekiti State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Alberto Adeyemi, who confirmed the development, assured that the police were working round the clock to make all Ekiti roads safe.
The police spokesperson said: "In our quest to rid Ekiti roads of criminals, the DPO of Ikere and Safer Highway Patrol team got information that robbers were attacking innocent commuters along Ikere-Akure Road. They swung into action and chased the robbers to their hideout along Akure Road."

Abia state governor, Okezie Ikpeazu has banned roadside car wash in the state. The governor placed the ban while inspecting a new road project in Aba, the state capital and Umuahia. According to the governor, the detergents used in washing the cars on the road cause the tars on the road to deteriorate.

No fewer than four persons have been confirmed dead in a multiple crash on the Ogun State end of the Sagamu-Benin Expressway.
Our correspondent learnt that a diesel-laden tanker on its way to Lagos, crashed and spilled its content on the highway on Monday night.
Five vehicles, which were said to be on their way towards the Sagamu area, reportedly lost control when they ran over the spilled diesel.
The vehicles included a vehicle of cement manufacturer, Dangote Cement, which skidded off the slippery road and crashed into a ditch.
Another truck, carrying tyres, also fell, spilling its contents on the road.
This led to a gridlock on the expressway as all the vehicles on the highway were diverted to a single lane.

Chiawolam, who was among students who sat for the Junior Secondary School education (JSS) examination recently from Isieke Model Community High School, was reported to have dashed into the bush at the back of the family house with her mother’s head tie, climbed on top of a guava tree and hung herself two days after she was raped by the three beastly boys. The rape incident happened on Sunday, June 28, 2015, while she hung herself on Tuesday morning, July 7, 2015.


Chiawolam’s father, Mr Umeh said that early in the morning that Tuesday, her mother called her to find out how she was raped and she complained that she was having pains all over her body. The mother told her to endure till they come back from the police station that morning, but unknown to them, the deceased had another plan.


“She took her jacket and what we later discovered was a scarf and left, warning that nobody should mention her name. We thought she was going to the toilet,” the distraught father said.

The members of Umeh family, who are natives of Amaeke Abam in Ohafia LGA, have been residing in Inyienyi village, where they acquired land and built a house.

A family source disclosed that Comfort had told her mother earlier that she would not be able to stay alive to behold the faces of those who defiled her, but the mother did not understand what she meant.

It was her deafening cry while struggling between life and death on top of the tree that drew people’s attention to the bush. They then rushed to the scene to discover that her tongue had already protruded out of her mouth showing that she had given up the ghost.

Comfort’s mother, Mrs Ekenna Umeh, a prophetess who runs a prayer ministry in her home said that the deceased would have clocked 15 years in October this year.

She said that her daughter did not like having any affair with boys as she swore that she would keep her virginity for her husband. She was said to have told her mother that she would complete her studies and start working before considering marrying. The deceased mother alleged that one Ndubuisi had been disturbing her daughter since they moved to the area in 2013, and had in her presence threatened to deal with her if she refused his amorous overtures.

Her words: “In my presence, I had asked my daughter and she told me that relationship is not her prob¬lem now until she is through with her education.

She hardly collects gifts from boys nor accepts free rides when coming back from school.”

Chiawolam was said to have gone to see her sister in a nearby village. On her way from the visit, the three boys allegedly abducted and took her into a nearby forest, where they have a cult house and shrine.

Explaining further, the mother told Sunday Sun “While this was going on, my daughter told me that she was still shouting, but nobody could come to her rescue. She said that immediately they got into the forest, near Inyienyi stream, one of the boys named Ndubuisi brought out a dagger and threatened to kill her if she refused to submit herself to them. Eventually, they over-pow¬ered her, tore off her skirt, blouse, pants, brassier and forcefully raped her in turns. She said that when they were doing all those things to her, she passed out, only to wake and see herself in the pool of her own blood.

It became difficult for her to stand up and walk out of the forest, as her head was turning and every area of her abdomen and private region was paining her. She said that she looked at herself to discover that blood filled the whole place like where a goat was slaughtered for sacrifice.”

Mrs, Umeh said she never imagined that her daughter would take her life. She called on the police and all relevant authorities to give her justice and ensure that her daughter did not die in vain by making those who pushed her to suicide pay for their sins.

The Police Public Relations Officer for Abia State, Mr Ezekiel Udeviotu, who confirmed the incident described it as unfortunate, stating that the police was doing all within its powers to arrest the culprits, who were said to have fled the community.

EFCC disclosed that 2 of its crucial witnesses in the N29billion fraud case against former Adamawa state governor Murtala Nyako, his son Abdulazis and other associates, have died mysteriously. The anti-graft agency told a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Friday July 10th that the mysteriously deaths of the 2 men have put fear in other witnesses who are now refusing to cooperate with them for fear of the unknown. EFCC begged the court to remand Nyako and his co-accused as it would be dangerous to allow them go on bail & also so witnesses could come forward & testify against them

"Two of our crucial witnesses, Ma’aji Mohammed Iro and Abdulmalik Dalhatu have died in mysterious circumstances and this has instilled fear in other prospective witnesses in the case" EFCC told the court

Ma’aji Mohammad Iro was a Regional Manager with Zenith Bank, who was in charge of Adamawa State Govt's accounts with the bank and allegedly assisted the former governor in the looting spree.

An explosion has occurred at a church in Jos, Plateau State.
The explosion occurred at ECWA church in Tudunwa, Angwan yashi, near the Federal Secretariat in Jos, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau on Sunday.
A witness near the church said the noise from the “massive” explosion was very loud and that the casualty might be high as worshippers were at the church for the Sunday service.
The explosion occured one week after a similar explosion at a Redeemed Church in Yobe State claimed many lives.
The police spokesperson in Plateau could not be reached for comments as of the time of the report.

An 82-year-old female politician in Ogun State has been murdered, police said.
The octonagerian, Saliat Eleweju, was a close ally of a former Ogun State governor, Gbenga Daniel.
She was an influential woman leader of the Peoples Democratic Party when Mr. Daniel was governor.

Mr. Adejobi said upon receiving the information, police arrived the home of Madam Eleweju where she was found in her own pool of blood and was immediately rushed to a private hospital Ijebu-Ode.
There, she was referred to another hospital in Sagamu, before being transferred to hospital in Lagos where she eventually died.
Mr. Adejobi said the corpse had been moved to the morgue as at the time of filing this report, adding that the police commissioner has concluded arrangement to visit the scene of the incident.
He assured that the authorities would apprehend the perpetrators of the crime, adding that investigations have already commenced.

His brother Obaro Ibru & friends announced his passing on social media, eulogizing the man they called an amazing individual but they didn't say how he died. His father is billionaire businessman Olorogun Michael Ibru. He's survived by his parents and siblings. May his soul rest in peace, amen.

The attention of the Presidency has been drawn to unauthorized and unexpected Tweets by an account falsely linked to Zahra Buhari, one of the daughters of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Following enquiries by a few foreign missions on the raging online controversy about unsavory comments against some foreign leaders purportedly made by her, we wish to state categorically that Zahra is indeed on Twitter but the offending handle @Zahra_Buhari has stopped being her own for a long time since it was compromised by hackers.
Tweets by this handle are therefore not her own and should be disregarded and considered as the work of hackers seeking to cause mischief between this country and other friendly states.

Zahra’s authentic handle is @ZmBuhari and any handle other than this on Twitter should be considered as fake and therefore fraudulent.

It also pertinent to state at this point that neither the wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari nor the other children are presently on Twitter, Facebook or the various other platforms.

As they the explore the possibilities on this new territory, we request the general public to ignore the many accounts on various platforms in their names that currently exist. Such accounts, beside the authentic one cited above in the name of Zahra are unauthorized and therefore fake.

Newly appointed director general of the Department of State Security, Lawal Musa Daura, has demoted Marilyn Ogar, the agency’s former spokesperson, via a memo.


Apart from demoting Ms. Ogar, the acting DSS director general also directed the demotion of numerous other officers of the agency who were just promoted in March in what was seen as a politically motivated exercise.



Ms. Ogar was seen as a controversial official of the DSS who often made statements that were deemed partisan. Her promotion was viewed as a reward for doing dirty political jobs for former President Goodluck Jonathan and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Promotions of officers in the DSS are usually done at the end of each year, but Ms. Ogar and 44 others were promoted last March. Even so, their promotion was not made public until May.

RN learned that Ms. Ogar is currently on vacation, and is reportedly visiting her children resident in the US. In addition to her premature promotion, Ms. Ogar was was also offered a generous scholarship to do a PhD in the UK, according to one source at the agency.

Mr. Daura also fired Abdulrahman Mani, the chief security officer to President Muhammadu Buhari and immediately replaced him with Bashir Abubakar, an assistant director in the Bayelsa State command of the DSS.

Mr. Mani was then posted to Ebonyi State.

― It is always advisable you go through any new material like cartoons you just bought for them before they start seeing it themselves.

― Teach your 3-year-olds how to wash their private parts properly and warn them never to allow anyone touch those areas and that includes you. (remember, charity begins at home and with you)

― Blacklist some materials you think could threaten the sanity of your child (that includes music, movies and musicians) and let them understand the value of standing out of the crowd.

― Once your child complains about a particular person, don't keep quiet about it. Take up the case and show them you can defend them always!

The driver and security guard who killed former Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Akure, Professor Albert IIemobade, have been remanded in prison till September 18th.

The men, Daniel Ita and Olayemi Bamitale, who confessed to killing the academician, were arrested while they tried to sell off his car. The Nigerian government today announced that it has lifted the ban on importation of furniture and textiles materials. This was confirmed by the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Alhaji Abdullahi Dikko. He said Nigerians can now import them but will pay 35% duty.

"Textile, furniture and others have become dutiable as both commodities have been removed from the Import Prohibition Lists and it is going to be implemented” he said

FG reviews banned products every year and recently they removed a lot of stuff from the prohibition list but they said that poultry products still remains banned.

Although imported chickens and turkeys have become status symbol in Nigeria, the National Agency for Food And Drug Administration And Control (NAFDAC) has come out to strongly warned against the consumption of imported or smuggled frozen poultry frozen meat, even as it has said that imported poultry products, especially chicken and turkey have been discovered to be causative factor in non- communicable diseases (NCDs) and antibiotics resistance.

Although NCDs are non-infectious but they are deadly. Health conditions under NCDs include cancer, kidney disease, and hypertension among others. NAFDAC Director General,Dr Paul Orhii, who gave the warning at media briefing in Lagos, urged Nigerians to avoid imported smuggled chickens and turkeys, because they have been found to contain substances that can predispose one to kidney, liver and lung diseases as well as certain types of cancers and drug resistance- bacterial infections.

At the briefing, a study, titled “Prevalence, Quality and Acceptability of Frozen Poultry Meat in Major Cities in Nigeria” carried out by experts from University of Ibadan titled “, was presented. Although imported foreign chicken, turkey and along with other frozen poultry meat have been banned by the Federal Government, some Nigerians have cultivated the habit of smuggling the banned poultry products into the country to the ‘delight’ of some Nigerians who do not know the health implications of consuming such products.

Orhii said that patronising smuggled poultry foods do not only encourage economic sabotage, but also can damage peoples’ health. Orhii added that the studies have found out that most of the smuggled chicken into Nigeria contains high level of various deadly contaminants. Orhii said: “Our studies have found that most of these smuggled chickens or smuggled poultry products, may be because the way they are transported or because they are not properly packaged, they contain some contaminants. It can be formaldehyde, at times it can be high level of antibiotics residue and other contaminants like heavy metals. “And that is why we are discouraging members of the public from consuming them. We are particularly concerned about the high level of antibiotics residue, because these can cause drug resistance, resistance to antibiotics.” Orhii added that NAFDAC would begin strict enforcement of the ban on imported poultry products.

The study, which Orhii referred to, was carried out Prof. Olumide Tewe (lead researcher) ,Prof.S.S.Abiola (meat technologist), Dr.O.AAbu (nutritional enzymologist), Dr.C.I.Alarima (agriculture extensionist), Dr.O.A.Olabisi (public health specialist), Mr.S, Adelani (chief technologist) and Mr. R. A. Aromoye (administrative assistant). According to Tewe, a nutritional toxicologist, who led the research team that discovered that foreign poultry products contain harmful toxic substance, the sample for the study on “imported (smuggled) frozen poultry carcasses were obtained from wholesalers and retailers in Lagos, Ibadan, Port-Harcourt and Abuja,” and “analysed for heavy metals, microbial status and meat quality parameters.”

The nutritional toxicologist said the analysed smuggled or imported poultry food were found to be unsafe for consumption, adding that the continuous consumption of imported chicken and turkey could damage the human system on the long run, unlike poultry products produce locally, which have been found to be safe for consumption. Tewe said: “Consumers in the study area mostly consume chicken and turkey. Other poultry meats consumed are duck, geese, guinea fowl and quail. Sources of poultry meat sold is imported or smuggled poultry meat. A very small percentage (15.33) of the retailers sold locally produced poultry meat.

“It was discovered that the foreign poultry products contain high levels of formaldehyde, as well as high levels of metals and other substances which are lethal to the human body as against the locally bred poultry products which did not contain such substances. Heavy metals (which have been found to be present in imported or smuggled meat) may cause toxicity-related mutagenesis (mutation), carcinogenesis (cancer) and other severe health hazards. Others (result of heavy metals) are cardiovascular diseases, skin disorders, and neurotoxicity lung and nasal cancer in humans”.

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State has assurd that tolls will not be collected at the second toll point on the Lekki- Epe Expressway.

The governor gave this assurance at an interactive session with newsmen at the Banquet Hall of the Lagos House, Ikeja on Sunday.

A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Habib Aruna, quoted the governor as saying that his concern was to make sure the road was completed as soon as possible.

According Ambode, “We must start thinking of the future concerning that road. We said we will have an International Airport in Epe, and an Export Processing Zone in Lekki and a Deep Seaport also in Lekki.

“Should we not start thinking about how we will improve and create a 10-lane road between Ikorodu, Itoikin, Epe and Ijebu Ode so that people can go out from there? There is no point constructing the road, paying tolls and in five years’ time, the road is gone.”

Speaking further, the governor said once the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, which was being expanded into 10-lane, was completed, business activities in the state would boom.
He said, “As more means of transportation come on board, the more than 600,000 private car owners and 120,000 motorcycles that are being put on the road in the state on a daily basis will reduce in number.”

Ambode said, “We have said this is a government of continuity, but it is continuity with improvement. It is about making life easier for the people. We are receptive to new ideas and that is why we are going to be creative, innovative and thinking out of the box”.
