Former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has accused his successor, Nyesom Wike, of leading people of the state to blackmail him.

Amaechi noted that since Wike and members of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state are jittery that his appointment will be the main determinant of the state politics, they have moved to tarnish his image in the eyes of President Muhammadu Buhari, who detests corruption.

The ex-governor spoke at a reception organized in his honour in Abuja Sunday night.

He said, “Let me tell you what is currently going on in Rivers State. The governor and PDP are afraid of me getting an appointment to the national executive council because that will determine what the politics of Rivers State will be.

“And they know that the current President abhors corruption and the only way they can stop me from getting the appointment is to paint me with corruption. And the people that know me in Rivers State know that I don’t like money. But I am not angry with them. My anger is that in Rivers they know I don’t like money. And I expect them to defend me that I don’t like money.”

The same Wike, according to Amaechi, who used to advise him that merely executing project without wasting money on people would not earn him a second term in office, has sponsored newspapers’ adverts to rubbish his reputation.

Amaechi added: “Governor Nyesome Wike has again sponsored one advert in a bid to rubbish me. He will go and publish in the paper on Monday as advert. Only God knows that if there is one thing I don’t like, I don’t like money. Anybody close to me knows that I don’t like money. Even Nyesom Wike told me you will not win second term if you don’t use money. So all this wasted projects will not deliver us. And I said let us do it once and for all.”

NEC: Osinbajo, governors meet at Aso Rock

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and state governors on Thursday began the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The meeting started when Osinbajo, who presided over the closed-door meeting, arrived the Council Chamber at few minutes past 11.00am.

Issues that would likely be discussed at the meeting include the report of a four- man committee mandated to investigate incomes and spending from the Excess Crude Account and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) account from 2012 till the end of last administration.

The committee which was set up during the last NEC meeting has governors Nasir el-Rufai (Kaduna), Adams Oshiomhole (Edo), Emmanuel Udom (Akwa Ibom) and Ibrahim Dankwambo (Gombe), as members.

The meeting may also consider bailout for states owing workers’ salaries.

The states represented at the meeting, which is still in progress, are – Cross River, Kaduna, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Enugu, Anambra, Imo, Kogi , Gombe, Delta, Kano, Lagos and Niger.

Others are – Adamawa, Ondo, Sokoto, Yobe, Osun, Bauchi, Ebonyi, Kebbi, Oyo, Plateau, Taraba, Zamfara, Bayelsa and Abia.

Boko Haram members in a daring move attacked the family home of the new Chief of Army Staff Maj. Gen. Tukur Buratai in Buratai village in Borno state today July 21st. According to Reuters, two people wee killed while 8 others were injured during the attack. Several houses were burnt as well.

The Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase has awarded post humous award to the three police officers who were killed in a bomb attack on a military checkpoint in Borno state yesterday July 20th.

In a statement released today July 21st, IGP Arase praised the deceased officers for their commitment to duty even until death. He also announced that 4 children of each of the officers killed will be given scholarship up to their secondary school level. The statement after the cut...


The IGP salutes the courage and gallantry displayed by officers of the Yobe State Police Command in containing the menace of insurgency in the State. He is highly pleased that in spite of imminent challenges, the officers exhibited a high sense of patriotism and dedication to duty.

While regretting the death in active service of three officers in the unfortunate incident of Monday 20th July, 2015, the IGP observed that but for the indomitable spirit, sacrifice and professionalism of the deceased officers, the terrorists would have detonated the explosives in a high profile target. To further consolidate the commendation, the IGP has approved the post-humous promotion of the deceased officers.

He has also ordered the Medical Department to foot the medical bill of the injured officer. In addition, four children each of the deceased officers will be offered scholarship up to secondary school level while the families will be afforded priority in the budding Police Housing Scheme. Similar gesture will be extended to other officers who paid the supreme sacrifice in the course of fighting insurgency.

The All Progressives Congress (APC), has implored the former president, Goodluck Jonathan, to ask for the forgiveness of Nigerians for running a “bad governance and leadership” in his six years administration.



Punch is now reporting that the party also urged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to humble itself and apologize to Nigerians over the way and manner it ran the country for the 16 years it ruled.

According to a statement releasd earlier today by the Publicity Secretary of the APC in Ondo State, Omo’ba Adesanya, the present state of the country is as a result of how PDP mismanaged the affairs of the nation.


The statement read: "Jonathan and PDP brought this country into disrepute, domestic and international odium, economic crisis, insecurity, unemployment, unprecedented corruption, abuse of state apparatus, infrastructural decadence, poverty, and many other issues. But instead of being remorseful and apologetic, the party, through its National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, has been making defenceless excuses and arguments, saying President Muhammadu Buhari is slow, that APC is not prepared for governance or that we are not keeping to our promises."

It continued: "This is laughable because Nigerians are already in sync with the current administration. The President should be commended for his dogged approach to blocking all leakages and apprehending looters. You cannot hit the ground running without carefully observing and removing the entire banana peels littering the ground to avoid a dangerous crash. We advice Metuh and his party to be patient. In a matter of time, after all that is being planned by this government has mature and the results start coming out, Nigerians will be able to know who has come to serve them and who has taken them for a ride for 16 years."

Reacting to the backlash from the APC, Mr. Banji Okunomo, the Publicity Secretary of the PDP in Ondo State, urged the APC to stop acting like an opposition party, saying that it should rather focus on how to deliver on the promises it made to Nigerians.

In his words: "They are taking Nigerians for granted and they do not know that Nigerians are already losing their patience to want to see the promised change which they used in cajoling Nigerians into electing them into power. From its inception, the APC has been showing that it is not ready for governance as it cannot even put its house in order. So, for the period they were in the opposition, in a way, their mentality or psyche has been assaulted, and that is why they keep behaving like an opposition party. We want to see them manifest their campaign promises."

Veteran Nollywood actress, Sola Sobowale, is not happy with the discipline situation in Nigeria currently. She blames parents especially mothers for the lack of family values in kids.

The actress stated in an interview with Punch that while growing, it was the joint effort of her parents, friends and neighbours that helped shape her into the woman she is now.

However Sola is complaining about how things have turned out in Nigeria now. She said: "We don’t have family values anymore and that is why my soap opera, Nectar, is about family life. Mothers don’t know their onions any more as their children are going astray. My parents did not bring me up alone. It was a combined effort from friends, families and neighbours. There is nothing like that anymore".


I can't say I disagree with Sola because I do believe that good training starts at home, however you may have a different opinion.

Earlier this week, I told y'all about a horrific accident that occurred on Monday July 13 at Udu Road, Warri involving a bullion van on the wrong side of traffic and the trailer that hit and crushed a lady's legs.

. Sadly, she's lost one leg, and the doctors are struggling to save the second one.

She's currently at DELSUTH, Oghara and in need of funds. The bank where this bullion van was going has refused to help out. Some legal practitioners in Udu are on it, and an organization, Center for the Vulnerable and under-privileged area also involved.
