When James Orsen Bakker started the PTL club movement in the United States which was aired by over a hundred stations and viewers numbering more than 12million people,he attributed the success of the movement to decision to include all denominations,sexual orientation,race or criminal record. Married to Tamara Faye LaValley,this televangelist succeeded in building the third most successful theme park in the US and a satellite system distributed their network 24 hours a day across the country.It was so successful that viewers willingly contributed large sum of money to the tone of one million dollars a week with proceeds going directly to expanding the theme park and the mission of Praise The Lord(PTL).You never can expect a more happy home then than that of the Bakkers,but there was a problem.

Bakker found out in the course of time that his wife,Tamara Faye was chasing after men. He then made the wrong decion within that 5minutes.Instead of seeking God for solution,he sought man.He was advised that women are jealous beings.That the best way to b ring her back is to do what she was doing.Do it openly that she will know about it and in so doing,she will cry back and beg for forgiveness before she looses her husband.Bakker connived with one John Wesley Fletcher, a defrocked Assemblies of God minister, to have a go with Jessica Hahn,the church secretary and a model in the outer world.He met Hahn at a hotel room in Clearwater,Florida and slept with her.Hahn, being a girl that she was,put a call across to Bakker later along the line and told him that he needed some money.She reminded him that he is a man of God and that if she opens up, that he is finished.

But no secret lasts for ever.The Bible said that your sins shall find you out.The secret was later revealed that 350 thousand dollars was paid to Hahn to keep shut.When Bakker learnt of the revelation,he resigned from the PTL club.Meanwhile,the PTLClub's fund−raising activities between 1984 to 1987 was scrutinised by The Charlotte Observer newspaper,eventually leading to charges against him.Bakker was eventually found guilty and sentenced to 45years imprisonment with a fine of 500,000 dollars.All these eventually brought down the PTL club and the renowned televangelist,who was the role model to millions all over,was in chains,in prison and a mockery of his former self.What a shame.

One thing i later found out is that the wife didn’t repent of her evil ways and divorced him while he was in prison and married the man that gave her husband that bad advice.When Bakker heard of it while in prison,he lost it all and ran mental.
