That $100 is for UNIPORT alone; they charge you that to verify your transcripts/certificates when they get the mail from WES for verification. Different schools in Nigeria have their own charges. Early last year it is was about 16k+ for verification (UNIPORT MSc), I do not know how much it is now. Thier contacts is readily available online you can get it and get first hand information.

Thank you, the clarification am trying to make is that earlier it was clearly stated on CIC website that " paystubs if available" but now it has been removed totally.

You see those are two different scenarios.

That thing is still there, it has not been remove. But it clearly stated "If you have them" You ll see it in the question mark (next to upload file) in your employment record(s) after your ITA.

I am creating an account in WES, since the WES report is valid for 5 years. Can i use the WES standard application for Immigration purposes too or must it be the application for IRCC.
I may be considering a PhD in about 3 years time so thinking if i can keel two birds with one stone....

Your question is not too clear though, but you can always convert your ECA to Course by Course for academic purposes. This is usually done at the end of your ECA evaluation.

No I wasn't asked to pay a fine. It was a very cordial relationship, I opened up to the tax controller and my issues were addressed appropriately. I am resident in Abuja so I wentbto FIRS not SIRS. I am not sure if same applies in other states.

I was also asked to provide tax clearance for my business for which I had not remitted tax, I payed for the 3 years on the same day after an ADR was requested for, i have my gotten my ppr. So to answer your question, I don't think it matters as long as you can provide your TCC.

Where you ask to pay FINE for failing to pay your taxes over the years. I know each state is different, I just needed clarification.

I did exactly what you are hoping to do and my PR came out a couple of months ago. I am currently here as a PhD candidate and applied for my PR before arriving. if you calculate your score using the CRS tool and your points are high enough, you should apply asap. considering that you're a self-sponsored student, a PR would do you good (no restrictions on working and studying, lower tuition, ability to take up student loan if needed, provincial medical coverage, etc).

Sorry to ask, can one apply without having a Job offer inwaiting in Canada.

You are right, One can make do with 1 or 2 professional referees in lieu of academic ones.

Very possible, infact a friend of mine is in that situation right now. A professor ask him to put in for PhD in his department and him being the prospective supervisor. At the end of the whole process the Grad School sent him a letter that they were unable to offer admission bla bla bla bla. So yes it is possible, however this was the case where the Prof. had no funding. I don't know if it will be a free ride when the Prof. have funding.

Well, by default, US PhD offers almost always come with 'full' funding, so that shouldn't be a differentiating factor to choose between two similar offers. Also, there's absolutely no problem with not knowing your advisor prior to enrolling. Creating a rapport with your advisor before you start is the exception, not the norm. Most schools will let you free style for a semester, so you can talk to profs, check their labs, and decide which one to work in for the next 4 + years. Cos they believe it's a decision that pretty much affects a bunch of things down the line. So, that too, isn't a clear cut yardstick to accept or deny.

That is why I use the word "I" refering to myself. And what if you don't find any of them interesting to work with at the end of the day.

I have been silently following this thread for weeks. From page 1 to here, I'm amazed by the amount of information on GRE and Grad school application on this thread and must applaud the efforts of all contributors.
I planned to share my full experience after my GRE (May, 11th) but couldn't resist joining the conversation.

Now, to the woman of the moment, drhopeful, congrats on your offers and most importantly, on your recent decision regarding UVA vs pennstate. Seriously, It's a tough call and I am glad you are being pragmatic about it. I have learnt a great lesson from the comments on your decision: Don't wait for permission to do what you think is best

@Scholastica16. Man, thanks for all the help you've given on this thread. I pray you soon get in this drhopeful-like fix.

I personal dont see it as a tough call, if you are given admission into a top school with full funding for your PhD program and then you don't know your supervisor yet, I think there is a problem. When are you going to build rapport with him or her? when are you going to develop research plan?. If I were her, I will go with U of Virginia, reason because she had already developed a relationship with that advisor which is what PhD is all about.

The research assistantship thing, you basically do research with your supervisor as well as assist him with some lab work. For the pay you should check with the school on how they make payments for those on assistantships. I know some schools do Bi-weekly. For living this should depends on the city you are, but you should have some money to take care of you for a month or so! With careful planning, your stipend should be enough for you in the entire duration of your PhD.

I had a similar experience.
I was interviewed by a potential supervisor at Michigan tech for my PhD in Chemistry. Everything was set, just 3 letters of recommendation and one must come from my undergrad supervisor; she had already done the online evaluation but they needed a letter. The two other lecturers already wrote their letters without informing me but my supervisor started giving me excuses. She told me to write the letter and email her so that she would just put it on the letter head paper. After a month, mama no gree do am o. She said no letterhead, no light, internet and all sorts of excuses. So, I rapidly completed my other 2 MSc applications and got admitted. Mama still no gree do the recommendation till today, lol. It even got to a time she told me to stop calling her again. Here I am, it is exactly a year this thing happened, lol. I was so sad mama fall hand gan.
Most Nigerian lecturers think they are god,lol. Although we have few good ones, atleast I still chat with some of them on whatsapp.

You get the point, very mean set of people. Thank God you are now in the state and doing well.

This Lecturers can be so selfish at times, a friend recently ask his graduate Supervisor (MS) to do a reference letter for him, deadline was approaching with many calls and text message, somehow this Man refuse to write a reference letter for him. I had to advice him to cancel the request a day to application deadline and look for someone else to do it. He has gotten his admission with or without him, some people think they are God.

Yes oh I contacted one back in February to assist with WES payment, he told me 500/$, I was like is that your last price, He never responded back to me, it was strange though. I later got a friend I didn't want to involve with to do it for me at 475.

Don't your school communicate through e-mail with WES. I think if your school is done with the verification process then you have nothing to worry about as they are going to include some of the document WES send to them-together with other documents when sending back to WES.
So using courier will be fine.
