FamilyRe: DNA Test, I Am Scared by rex21: 7:08pm On Sep 30, 2021
Barrister026:
My dad called me on the phone 2 days ago asking if I be coming home for the holiday, which is unlikely of him, because I just left home not quite long and he hardly call. (I school within our state, studying law)..... while we were on the call he mentioned about the Dr appointment. (We normally do routine check-up every 2 months )

Throwing the question to me if I even know my blood group. (I replied, no)
At FIRST I thought it's just a normal question.

Am 21yrs old, eldest among 3 siblings and I think my dad has something planned out, he's an Internet freak even more than I, he's actively online on twitter, facebook, and seeing all the uproars about DNA test here and there on Nairaland, I think he's going to ask me to come to the hospital with him disguising it as me Knowing my blood group (for a DNA test.)

The thing here is am scared, because all my life I have seen people saying never to trust a woman (I love my mom, but still am scared)

What if it's a DNA test (which I strongly believe it is)
What if it's turns out complicated
Would he still accept me? Or abandon me to myself.
So many thoughts running through my head, they are reasons for that.

He's black, I am fair (though my mum says I took his father complexion)

Pls help me...am thinking to stay back in school or go home This evening.
Am confused.
You said your dad is on nairaland right ??
So it makes sense to you if he sees this post right ??

You may have many best friends but your dog only has one.

We see people that eat dogs and rabbits as cannibals.

Don't blame SR too much, SR was a bit hard on Wizkid with that comment. SR could have put that statement in milder manner. Something like so so so hit a hitch as crew members so so so so. Nothing like Nigerian media hate wizkid, as long as it's the true, state it. The only problem is if it is not true.
My brother, can you see why people say nairaland is filled with children. See how you dissected this small issue with a clear judgement. Some of the others were just pouring out their childishness and sentiments. Most of them didn't even read the content, they just saw topic and started commenting. Very pathetic and impetuous, Worse than who they claim to criticise.

Car TalkRe: My Experience With A Roadside Mechanic by rex21: 5:50am On Sep 16, 2021
sharpwriter:
He has been my Dad's mechanic for long and he's a veteran in the job (I respect him though) but let me still call him a Kazeem grin since hin no dey exotic and formally educated like Oga Gazzuz cheesy

Now, there is this Nissan Primera 2.0LX of the 90's series that I got from my Dad. The engine is good and kicking but I noticed that the steering is hard in turning when the car is stationary.

I told a Kazeem earlier (not this one) about this. He said it is the power steering pump that is faulty.

I looked away and continued driving it like that because I believe I will find a solution later. Also, I still see the power steering fluid in the container, so I believed him and thought the fluid is useless after all since it isn't pumping.

I told our main Kazeem about this and he opened the power steering container while the ignition is on. He said the pump is functioning and that it is the oil that is very low and also that the steering rack is leaking.

He beckoned me to look at it and I saw that the fluid was actually going inside the pipe that led to the steering rack as it should, signifying that the pump is working and that the fluid is low because the base of the container shouldn't have been seen from the top in the first place.

Maybe I misjudged because I believed the first Kazeem. Anyways, I sent him to service the engine and also do the power steering to ease the steering turning.

Now, this is the crux of the matter cheesy :

After servicing, he brought back the car, I checked it, saw that the steering turning was better and easier. He now brought out the used engine oil that was drained from the engine when servicing.

He said that is what I will be using to top the oil in the power steering container. I said I didn't hear you well sir grin

I opened the bonnet and checked the power steering container and I saw that he filled it to the brim with the used semi dark/dark engine oil that was drained from the engine shocked

I was agaped and filled with surprise at the same time (make I no say horror). He was just smiling and talking.

He said instead of me wasting my money that that's what I should use, and that if the one there is low, I should top it with the container he gave me initially (that container is up to 5 litres cheesy

I was just looking at him with wonder and I asked that what if it is all these new generation cars of corolla, camry etc. He said it is the same thing, that he does it very well and it is good as substitute for power steering ATF fluid cheesy

Now, my question to nairaland car gurus and users is that :

What can you say about this? Any similar experience? cheesy

Sorry for the long epistle though.

Since its an old car, there is no cause for alarm. Only problem is that the oil might be dirty and clog the power steering. I'v seen these guys do it a thousand times.

I was watching the CNN interview with an American senator yesterday.
Honestly, people blaming Biden for this whole issues are obviously reading the papers upside down.

Trump reportedly signed a memo planning to do the same thing by January, next year.
According to the gist, even the toppest security officials didn't know.

Now, Biden did it, and it's as if he'll be eaten raw.
Was the US going to let a war last 10 years? This is their longest war, and they did more than enough.
Imagine they had stayed for fifty years, gone home and democracy overthrown in two weeks.
I think the government was just weak, and that's why all these is happening.
Biden continued trump's plan, but was rather impetuous in executing it (according to trump). The withdrawal was too quick, even a blind man would have noticed and the Afghanistan govt was 'weak'. The majority of the people (the men) embraced the coming of the taliban, forget all those hogwash you saw about people clinging to aeroplanes et al.

I read one paper recently that suggested a year of palliative to help.with the hardships

Option B is keep subsidy but tax everyone including informal sector workers, herdsmen, farmers and even beggars heavily to fund subsides

Lord knows subsidy removal is a message I hate promoting. But since my eyes got opened in 2011, I think it is a good idea long term.
Subsidy removal looks/sounds very promising, but it might also have a devastating effect on our already dwindling economy. PMB tried to remove it and it obviously backfired hence he brought it back. We have to look for ways to make money in this country, ways to save money too. Lets treat Nigeria like an individual, a human. Let us guide our external spending.
PoliticsRe: NNPC Refineries Generate Zero Revenue, Pay Workers ₦69 Billion by rex21: 10:00am On Sep 12, 2021
Modrov:
Yes i agree

But

1. Goverment income from crude oil has been falling since 2014 meaning goverment cannot constantly keep up the subsidy payments as is.especially as monies from subsides cone from.crude oil revenues not from taxes like other countries

2. Fuel production costs keep rising. That N180 or N175 production cost today can be N200 or 250 tomorrow.. Because refineries need to be upgraded, workers in refinereis need better salaries, naira has poor value due to us being a resource dependent country , rising crude prices, and so on.

At some point the goverment would either have to stop paying subsidies completely, cut subsidy rates meaning prices of fuel go up or take a loan or go broke in paying rising subsides to keep prices low

Either subsides go and the market controls the price or Nigeria keeps pouring money down a bottomless pit if production costa keep going up.
The whole issue sits on those in power to create a better way to mitigate the cost of petrol, or to create avenue for better funding for the subsidy. Either way, subsidy is not the problem.

The refineries don't work because for years they have been forced to work at a loss....so that Nigerians can get cheap fuel

As for payment....Government does not pay NNPC workers from the profit of their refineries...it is from allocation to NNPC.

i DON'T like Atiku, but there is a good reason why he called for NNPC to be privatised.
Let me create scenarios and explain why your claims are flawed.

Mr B, a Nigerian imports fuel from company A, the company's production cost is #180 per litre, they sell at #200, making a profit of #20 per litre. Mr B spends #20 per litre on logistics bring his total landing cost to #220 per litre. He intends to sell at
#250 per litre.

Now, the nigerian govt subsidises the product to be sold at #150 per litre. The govt checks what mr B imported, the quality and quantity then pays him #100 per litre to cover up his cost.

Mr C a nigerian refines crude oil in nigeria. His production cost is #175 due to proximity of raw materials (crude oil). He sells at #195 to make a profit of #20 per litre. He sells to Mr D, who spends #10 per litre on logistics due to close proximity, his landing cost is #205. He intends to sell at #235

Now, the nigerian govt subsidises the product to be sold at #150 per litre. The govt checks what mr D brought, the quantity and quality then pays him #85 per litre to cover up his cost.

Nomadic farming is a practice where farmers move their animals from one place to another, in search of food/water. This is an old, ancient and archaic practice. It shouldn't be encouraged let alone sponsored.

Please do enlighten us how nomadic farming is beneficial.
