AbuTwins:In scripture, while Jesus taught, some kids were being brought to him, and the disciples prevented them, and Jesus was displeased , and asked that the children be brought to him, and he said “let them come to me, for they are like the Kingdom of God’’, and he blessed them. All three synoptic gospels record this encounter. Matt 19.13, Mark 10.13-16, Luke 18.16 Jesus went to the synagogue on the sabbath to study and teach God’s word, numerous times. The bible records that it was his custom to go up to the temple to read and teach. Even as a child, he left his parents, and they found him in the temple learning from the teachers and doctors of the law. We have no excuse. Obviously, children could not be itinerant like Jesus and his disciples, but all over the scriptures, one thing is repeated, that children have to be brought up FIRMLY in the way of the Lord. |
JASONjnr:Of course you can give them the look, it doesn’t have to be followed by corporal punishment at home, there are other measures to keep children in line. Today’s Parents are just being lazy. But yes, it’s hard to keep children calm for 3 hours. But instead of muffling their ears from the word and worship, why not give them a coloring book of biblical characters? Why does it have to be the meaningless YouTube videos they watch every other day of the week? |
I attended two different church programmes this month and I noticed some trends that got me worried, so I thought i should share and offer some counselling too. 1. African women not knowing what to do with children in church. As soon as the service started, the woman in front of me brought out two large ear muffs for both of her children, blocked their ears while she began praising God. They weren’t sat close to a sound speaker. Other women in the congregation came with kids tablets, and you could see how engaged these kids were with their tablets. How do you expect these children to develop faith in God if they cannot hear the word? (Rom10.17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.) (2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby ![]() (2Tim 3.15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.) The above three scriptures explain in detail how the word of God is necessary for growth, faith development and for wisdom. Christianity is not like chemistry where you mix acid and base to get salt and water, in this kingdom, the unseen controls the seen, and faith is the currency. Our generation was fortunate; we did bible knowledge in primary and secondary school, our parents dragged us along to church revivals, even if we slept through it, the spoken word permeated us and was registered in our subconscious. Today’s generation in the western world do not have that privilege, instead they have tiktok, YouTube and Snapchat. And woe betide anyone who believes what they say about their societies being secular. There is nothing called secularism or atheism in the spirit, ‘’he who is not for us, is against us’’. I have a teenager who works with me once a week, he’s in college, and he casually mentioned to me that they had to read Harry Potter in Secondary school Year 7! Little wonder young people overseas are increasing dabbling in occultism and paganism. Schools have a subject called Religious Education whose content varies depending on the country and county where you are. In most cases, there is no time or space for bible reading, but there’s enough time for gender ideology, sexual perversion normalisation , and other satanic nonsense What can be done differently? Parents must recognise that children must be exposed to God at a tender age, just as Hannah took Samuel to the Lord after she weaned him. We must recognise that school teachers would not do the job as in the times past, thus we must double our efforts in prayer and word study. I can remember as a child, church was not the most interesting place to be, but how was my attention held? 1. Bible quizzes. Then we didn’t have the internet, so questions required tough bible study, and as I grew older, I learnt to use a concordance. 2. Sword drills. These were interesting events where you had to open your physical bible to a particular scripture as quickly as possible. Thus, most children knew where particular bible books were precisely. 3. Choir and drama events. In one Sunday every month, the kids choir would have a performance at the main church, during regular service, and as they got older, they could commandeer praise and worship even with their own instrumentalists. 4. Kids retreats. Usually once a year, 3-day retreats away from home, for word study, prayer, and fun games. Parents didn’t have to worry about their child’s nut and pollen allergy, because they were in God’s hands. In conclusion, pastors and church leadership must concentrate on integrating children into the church. In today’s world, they grow up so quickly, we can’t risk having them fall to the wayside. Pastors ought to take personal interest in children’s development, guide them, pray for them, anoint them, recognise those that appear to have fallen into bad company, and create a specialized development plan, just to keep them engaged . God bless you.

soccerlite:What is the business of God? To praise and worship God. Will worshipping God stop without instrumentalists? No. This is an issue because we are in an era of pastorpreneurs who see instrumentalists as factors of production. Whatever service is rendered in church , is into God, and is rewarded by God himself |
This is a simple matter. I'll answer by asking a few questions. 1. Should people who clean the church be paid? 2. Should ushers be paid? 3. Should members who control traffic at church gates be paid?? 4. Should I be paid for devoting my time to attend church? Time is money. True or false? If I should be paid for playing drums, it is like asking for a percentage of the offering and tithe I gave. Service in church is an OFFERING to God. It is done as an act of faith. Without faith, it is like throwing away time or wasting money. God says if we offer our time and resources, he opens the windows of heaven. If you don't believe God's scripture literally, then you have no business attending church, praying or giving offering. An investment savings account will yield better returns. Without faith, God will give you nothing. So the answer is that, services to God, can only be paid for by God to whom the service is offered. But if the instrumentalist enters a contract to provide a service to the pastor or church as a body for financial gain, then he must be paid. He receives his reward there and then. The other side of the coin is that, modern churches today, expect church workers to dress in uniforms. The church has to support them as much as possible, especially if these clothes expensive, so as not to place an extra burden on the members. Jesus said "my burden is light". In addition to this, charity must begin in the church. Members who God has blessed must start their charity from people who are engaged in the service of the lord. In Acts of the Apostles, early Christians brought their resources to be shared with the brethren. A final question is, but full-time pastors are paid., so why not pay instrumentalists. The bible says he who does not work, should not eat. Full time pastors are engaged in the church office everyday of the week, preaching on service days, counselling on other days, and attending to other church missions eg.administration of church schools, pastoral missions to new parishes, and general administrative work. Part time pastors are not paid from church accts. Instrumentalists are workers or in the extreme case, part time ministers. In summary, our service is unto God and not man. We must be careful not to be deceived by false teachings in the world and lose our reward. God bless you. |
1st part of a series on the hydra-headed monster called the Lagos APC Mafia Rex Osagie 21 min ago The gubernatorial elections in Lagos, Nigeria is particularly important because it is the country's commercial capital, and is a microcosm of the country as it is the most diverse and cosmopolitan of all states. In addition, it is the face of the nation, as it hosts the largest number of foreigners and multinationals, thus it's stability and prosperity is of utmost concern to Nigeria, Africa and the world. Few hours after the end of voting, the following quotes are worth sharing with our large audience: Subscribed “I hope the Obidients and their LP have now realized that Lagos is not ‘no man’s land’. The state has indigenous owners and today they emphatically made the statement loud and clear.” 6.09pm Let 2023 be the last time of Igbo interference in Lagos politics. Let there be no repeat in 2027. Lagos is like Anambra, Imo, any Nigerian state. It is not No Man’s Land, not Federal Capital Territory. It is Yoruba land. Mind your business. 11.38pm -Bayo Onanuga, Newspaper Chief Executive, Director Media and Publicity Tinubu/Shettima APC Campaign Council - Mar 18, 2023 via Twitter “Those that believed that Lagos is a "no man's land" have been roundly defeated, badly humiliated and finally taught the lesson of their lives by voters today in a peaceful, free and fair election. The matter is settled and the message is 8-fold: … 4. That guests and aliens that reside in Lagos must know their place and NEVER claim the state as their own again. 5. That the liberal open door policy to guests and aliens must be reviewed and reforms and laws put in place to protect and secure the culture, identity and rights of the Yoruba in Lagos and to confirm and re-affirm the indisputable and incontrovertible fact that Lagos is not only part and parcel of the SW but also belongs to the Yoruba.” - Femi Fani-Kayode, Director, New Media of the APC Presidential Campaign Council - Mar 18, 2023 11.42pm via Twitter. Please pardon the lengthy quotes, but I'd quote one more, then get to the crux of this discourse. “Hope the Obi supporters believes now that Lagos belongs to Yoruba and they're now facing the consequences of Lagos being no man's land.” - Mr Musiliu Akinsanya (Mc Oluomo) - Chairman Lagos Parks and Garages Committee The natural conclusion of an election is collation of votes and announcement of results. As of the time I write - 10 am WAT March 19, 2023, the results have not been announced, in fact, collation has been suspended till 11am today. The above statements were made yesterday, while voters were yet to return home in many localities. Considering that results have not been announced, the “strong statement” which Bayo Onanuga refers to, is the same “lesson of their lives” Fani-Kayode refers to. Incontrovertibly, it is the widespread xenophobic, grossly shameful/shameless, violent attacks against perceived Igbos by members of the All Progressive Congress Mafia in Lagos state. Ideally, Mr Akinsanya wouldn't be referenced in civil discourse, but a viral video he made 48 hours to the election, threatening “Iya Chukwudi” (an eponym for people of Igbo descent) “to vote APC or stay home”, turned out to be the field manual his mobsters, associates and ethnic militia took guidance from, in snatching ballot boxes, stabbing, shooting, and intimidating the remaining voters who overcame the fear of his widely publicised video. The Igbos are one of Nigeria's three largest ethnic groups, the most integrated in all parts of the country, who bore the brunt of the country’s civil war and arguably the most prolific ethnic group. Social media is awash with videos and pictures of APC-led militia processions chanting threats during election hours, fetishes placed at polling units, voters sporting various degrees of injuries, machete cuts, and a female opposition party agent thoroughly battered and groaning on a hospital bed. Celebrities were not spared, as many had their phones confiscated by thugs and their security accomplices. Conventional media didn't get a fair chance to report events, as journalists were beaten up, equipment confiscated, and crew abducted or arrested depending on what branch of the mafia was present. Even “pure blood yorubas” were attacked for simply looking like Igbos. Personally, I took a punch to the chin from an APC thug, in the presence of two police effigies, for standing my ground that votes counted must be recorded on the result sheet, signed and a copy displayed at the polling unit. I am not Igbo. This is the legacy of the APC Mafia in Lagos and the Mc from Oshodi who instigated Operation Wetié Vol.2 walks free. Instead, he has since joined his more sophisticated co-mobsters to gloat at their successful execution of the most divisive and violent election in our recent history. To set the record straight, there was no Igbo candidate on the ballot for Saturdays’s governorship elections. The tag has come from the Labour Candidate Mr Gbadebo Vivour - Rhodes (an indigenous descendant of slave returnees with ancestry in Lagos), being associated with Mr Peter Obi, his party's presidential candidate who is of Igbo heritage. From the quotes above, Lagos APC via their various spokespersons have admitted being responsible for the irresponsible xenophobic attacks that we witnessed all over our city. At this point, it is impossible to tell in what direction we go from here, but what is certain is that seeds have been sown, they would germinate and bring forth fruit in due season. There would be consequences! Dr Rex Osagie, Lagos Resident. Substack is the home for great writing

Fossil fuels are the drivers of industrialization. Every great power utilized (or still utilizes) them. It is hypocrisy to dictate to your neighbor on how to use his I-beta-pass-my-neighbour generator while the exhaust pipes from your Mikano are directly facing his only window. In his presidential speech broadcast on June12, President Buhari describes the recent killings in Katsina and Borno as the activities of Criminals taking advantage of COVID19. You'd recall that upwards of 200 persons were killed in two separate incidents in Katsina and Gubio. These similar incidences of invasion and mass murders carried out by rampaging Herdsmen have dominated news headlines in recent weeks. Rather than call the Fulani Herdsmen by name, the government has consistently downplayed their organization and agenda by referring to them as immigrants, bandits, herders, displaced persons from north Africa etc. And has also consistently described the genocide they perpetuate as "communal clashes" while militarizing defending villagers by christening them "ethnic militia". This morning's latest characterization of the fulani death merchants as opportunistic criminals, despite the fact that they have been third on the international list of terror groups causing the highest death toll, endorses the belief that there's a deliberate ploy which the President may not be unaware of, and the agenda to buy them time by unlooking and utilizing plausible deniability while the fulani carry out their ethnic territorial expansion. I was preparing this message a few minutes ago when I saw a post on twitter asking users to choose between “Dangote’s Money or Solomon’s Wisdom”. Dangote is the richest black man, as you would expect, the results were divided. This is not surprising in today’s world, money is important, even the bible recognizes the importance of money, but I’d want to share a formula that solves every problem, a formula that would make you never bother about looking for money. Pro 11:4 Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivereth from death. Ecclessiastes_7:12 For wisdom is a defence, and money is a defence: but the excellency of knowledge is, that wisdom giveth life to them that have it. Just like it is impossible for you to look for a cup of water, it is also possible for you to reach a level where it is impossible to look for money for sustenance or your necessities. These things are your right. But you have to show your identity, identify yourself and take what is yours. That formula is WISDOM — THE ULTIMATE WISDOM TO CONQUER ALL. The first mention of wisdom and its application in the bible is from Exodus 28–35, here God had given people wisdom for one purpose — to carry out work in his sanctuary, and at the end of the day these persons were blessed intergenerationally. Wisdom is distinct from understanding, the bible says; Pro 4:7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. Today, the story is the same. Only with wisdom will you achieve all your dreams and aspirations, and that wisdom is by doing God’s work, so that he can do your own work. Pro 11:30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise. Luke 10.2. Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest. Pro 10:5 He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame. Matt 28; 18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen. That is the job, and it is cut out. God’s word cannot be broken, he cannot lie, you can bet your life on his word. If God can tell you “do this for me, and I will do anything for you, isn’t that the fastest way to get anything you want? John 15:16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you. Mat 6:31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? Mat 6:32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. Mat 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Wondering if you can trust this offer? Right? Isa 45.19. I said not unto the seed of Jacob, Seek ye me in vain: I the LORD speak righteousness, I declare things that are right. Numbers 23:19 God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? Hebrews 6:18 That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:I So what else do you want to hear? God has said It is “impossible for me to lie, If you do my work, I will do anything and everything you ask for” My friend, I think it is an offer that is waiting for everyone to pick up, and that is why I am here because I want to continue cashing out too. I am trying to increase my points and referral bonus. The benefits are clear, they are tangible, both on earth and in heaven. Dan 12:3 And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever. Do you see that? It is very specific — they that turn many to righteousness shall shine as the stars forever and ever! Wow!! Pro 14:24 The crown of the wise is their riches: but the foolishness of fools is folly. RICHES!!! Isn’t that what you want? Riches is an accompaniment of the main blessings. Be wise, pursue the advancement of God’s kingdom the riches must obey you. 2Ch 1:12 Wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee; and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honour, such as none of the kings have had that have been before thee, neither shall there any after thee have the like. You see it? So how do you participate in this offer? Simple. 1. Talk to somebody about God today. Tell somebody “JESUS LOVES YOU” Tell someone about Christ’s sacrifice for our sins and the price he has paid for us. Christ is a ticket that has been paid for in our name and just waiting to be picked up. Tell them to believe in their heart that Jesus died for us, confess with their mouth that they are saved and that is it. 1 John 4:15 KJV: Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God. Rom 10.9: That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 2. Share God’s word with people. SEND BIBLE VERSES ABOUT JESUS’ LOVE AS MESSAGES VIA WHATSAPP AND SMS TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW. Spend your money and data to send God’s word to people and see whether He will leave you the way you are. 3. The most important, is living a righteous life that would exhibit Christ. Let our lives be the newest gospel of Christ, and May God give us the grace to live far above sin in Jesus name Amen. Matt 5:16 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. If you are reading this, and you like what you see, you want to get to know this God more, or you have problems that you want God to solve for you, or you knew God then you became too busy for him and you want to make up with him, please say the prayer below and believe it with all your heart, DO NOT RECITE IT in your heart, SAY IT ALOUD, excuse yourself from a crowded place if you need to, the reason is because — Rom 10.10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. LORD JESUS, I THANK YOU FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO RECEIVE YOU, I CONFESS THAT YOU DIED FOR MY SINS, AND I ACCEPT YOU AS MY LORD AND SAVIOUR, I STAND ON YOUR WORD THAT NO ONE WHO COMES TO YOU WOULD YOU CAST AWAY, AND ALSO ON YOUR WORD THAT SAYS AS MANY THAT RECEIVED YOU, YOU GAVE POWER TO BECOME THE SONS OF GOD, SINCE YOUR WORD CANNOT LIE, AS I HAVE RECEIVED YOU, MAKE ME YOUR SON, GIVE ME THE POWER TO REMAIN WITH YOU, FIX ALL THAT IS BROKEN IN MY LIFE, USE ME FOR YOUR WORK AND LET THE REWARDS FOLLOW. This intervention has been provoked, not so much by the ambitions of General Buhari to return to power at the head of a democratic Nigeria, as by declarations of support from directions that leave one totally dumbfounded. It would appear that some, myself among them, had been over complacent about the magnitude of an ambition that seemed as preposterous as the late effort of General Ibrahim Babangida to aspire yet again to the honour of presiding over a society that truly seeks a democratic future. What one had dismissed was a rash of illusions, brought about by other political improbabilities that surround us, however, is being given an air of plausibility by individuals and groupings to which one had earlier attributed a sense of relevance of historic actualities. Recently, I published an article in the media, invoking the possible recourse to psychiatric explanation for some of the incongruities in conduct within national leadership. Now, to tell the truth, I have begun to seriously address the issue of which section of society requires the services of a psychiatrist. The contest for a seizure of rationality is now so polarized that I am quite reconciled to the fact it could be those of us on this side, not the opposing school of thought that ought to declare ourselves candidates for a lunatic asylum. So be it. While that decision hangs in the balance however, the forum is open. Let both sides continue to address our cases to the electorate, but also prepare to submit ourselves for psychiatric examination. The time being so close to electoral decision, we can understand the haste of some to resort to shortcuts. In the process however, we should not commit the error of opening the political space to any alternative whose curative touch to national afflictions have proven more deadly than the disease. In order to reduce the clutter in our options towards the forthcoming elections, we urge a beginning from what we do know, what we have undergone, what millions can verify, what can be sustained by evidence accessible even to the school pupil, the street hawker or a just-come visitor from outer space. Leaving Buhari aside for now, I propose a commencing exercise that should guide us along the path of elimination as we examine the existing register of would-be president. That initial exercise can be summed up in the following speculation: “If it were possible for Olusegun Obasanjo, the actual incumbent, to stand again for election, would you vote for him?” If the answer is “yes”, then of course all discussion is at an end. If the answer is ‘No’ however, then it follows that a choice of a successor made by Obasanjo should be assessed as hovering between extremely dangerous and an outright kiss of death. The degree of acceptability of such a candidate should also be inversely proportionate to the passion with which he or she is promoted by the would-be ‘godfather’. We do not lack for open evidence about Obasanjo’s passion in this respect. From Lagos to the USA, he has taken great pains to assure the nation and the world that the anointed NPN presidential flag bearer is guaranteed, in his judgment, to carry out his policies. Such an endorsement/anointment is more than sufficient, in my view, for public acceptance or rejection. Yar’Adua’s candidature amounts to a terminal kiss from a moribund regime. Nothing against the person of this – I am informed - personable governor, but let him understand that in addition to the direct source of his emergence, the PDP, on whose platform he stands, represents the most harrowing of this nation’s nightmares over and beyond even the horrors of the Abacha regime. If he wishes to be considered on his own merit, now is time for him, as well as others similarly enmeshed, to exercise the moral courage that goes with his repudiation of that party, a dissociation from its past, and a pledge to reverse its menacing future. We shall find him an alternative platform on which to stand, and then have him present his credentials along those of other candidates engaged in forging a credible opposition alliance. Until then, let us bury this particular proposition and move on to a far graver, looming danger, personified in the history of General Buhari. The grounds on which General Buhari is being promoted as the alternative choice are not only shaky, but pitifully naive. History matters. Records are not kept simply to assist the weakness of memory, but to operate as guides to the future. Of course, we know that human beings change. What the claims of personality change or transformation impose on us is a rigorous inspection of the evidence, not wishful speculation or behind-the-scenes assurances. Public offence, crimes against a polity, must be answered in the public space, not in caucuses of bargaining. In Buhari, we have been offered no evidence of the sheerest prospect of change. On the contrary, all evident suggests that this is one individual who remains convinced that this is one ex-ruler that the nation cannot call to order. Buhari – need one remind anyone - was one of the generals who treated a Commission of Enquiry, the Oputa Panel, with unconcealed disdain. Like Babangida and Abdusalami, he refused to put in appearance even though complaints that were tabled against him involved a career of gross abuses of power and blatant assault on the fundamental human rights of the Nigerian citizenry. Prominent against these charges was an act that amounted to nothing less than judicial murder, the execution of a citizen under a retroactive decree. Does Decree 20 ring a bell? If not, then, perhaps the names of three youths - Lawal Ojuolape (30), Bernard Ogedengbe (29) and Bartholomew Owoh (26) do. To put it quite plainly, one of those three – Ogedengbe - was executed for a crime that did not carry a capital forfeit at the time it was committed. This was an unconscionable crime, carried out in defiance of the pleas and protests of nearly every sector of the Nigerian and international community – religious, civil rights, political, trade unions etc. Buhari and his sidekick and his partner-in-crime, Tunde Idiagbon persisted in this inhuman act for one reason and one reason only: to place Nigerians on notice that they were now under an iron, inflexible rule, under governance by fear. The execution of that youthful innocent – for so he was, since the punishment did not exist at the time of commission - was nothing short of premeditated murder, for which the perpetrators should normally stand trial upon their loss of immunity. Are we truly expected to forget this violation of our entitlement to security as provided under existing laws? And even if our sensibilities have become blunted by succeeding seasons of cruelty and brutality, if power itself had so coarsened the sensibilities also of rulers and corrupted their judgment, what should one rightly expect after they have been rescued from the snare of power” At the very least, a revaluation, leading hopefully to remorse, and its expression to a wronged society. At the very least, such a revaluation should engender reticence, silence. In the case of Buhari, it was the opposite. Since leaving office he has declared in the most categorical terms that he had no regrets over this murder and would do so again. Human life is inviolate. The right to life is the uniquely fundamental right on which all other rights are based. The crime that General Buhari committed against the entire nation went further however, inconceivable as it might first appear. That crime is one of the most profound negations of civic being. Not content with hammering down the freedom of expression in general terms, Buhari specifically forbade all public discussion of a return to civilian, democratic rule. Let us constantly applaud our media – those battle scarred professionals did not completely knuckle down. They resorted to cartoons and oblique, elliptical references to sustain the people’s campaign for a time-table to democratic rule. Overt agitation for a democratic time table however remained rigorously suppressed – military dictatorship, anda specifically incorporated in Buhari and Idiagbon was here to stay. To deprive a people of volition in their own political direction is to turn a nation into a colony of slaves. Buhari enslaved the nation. He gloated and gloried in a master-slave relation to the millions of its inhabitants. It is astonishing to find that the same former slaves, now free of their chains, should clamour to be ruled by one who not only turned their nation into a slave plantation, but forbade them any discussion of their condition. So Tai Solarin is already forgotten? Tai who stood at street corners, fearlessly distributing leaflets that took up the gauntlet where the media had dropped it. Tai who was incarcerated by that regime and denied even the medication for his asthmatic condition? Tai did not ask to be sent for treatment overseas; all he asked was his traditional medicine that had proved so effective after years of struggle with asthma! Nor must we omit the manner of Buhari coming to power and the pattern of his ‘corrective’ rule. Shagari’s NPN had already run out of steam and was near universally detested – except of course by the handful that still benefited from that regime of profligacy and rabid fascism. Responsibility for the national condition lay squarely at the door of the ruling party, obviously, but against whom was Buhari’s coup staged? Judging by the conduct of that regime, it was not against Shagari’s government but against the opposition. The head of government, on whom primary responsibility lay, was Shehu Shagari. Yet that individual was kept in cozy house detention in Ikoyi while his powerless deputy, Alex Ekwueme, was locked up in Kiri-kiri prisons. Such was the Buhari notion of equitable apportionment of guilt and/or responsibility. And then the cascade of escapes of the wanted, and culpable politicians. Manhunts across the length and breadth of the nation, roadblocks everywhere and borders tight as steel zip locks. Lo and behold, the chairman of the party, Chief Akinloye, strolled out coolly across the border. Richard Akinjide, Legal Protector of the ruling party, slipped out with equal ease. The Rice Minister, Umaru Dikko, who declared that Nigerians were yet to eat from dustbins - escaped through the same airtight dragnet. The clumsy attempt to crate him home was punishment for his ingratitude, since he went berserk when, after waiting in vain, he concluded that the coup had not been staged, after all, for the immediate consolidation of the party of extreme right-wing vultures, but for the military hyenas. The Senate President Farouk Lawan, describes careful annotation of the various killings by BH mostly perpetuated in his home state as hate speech... What a time to be alive... Going forward, 1. Senator Abaribe has belled the cat, the ball is now in our court. 2. The NLC which used to be the umbrella body under which Nigerians rallied to express organized dissent, has now been destroyed by ethnic considerations and greed. Nigerians need a new aegis for popular mobilization against this incompetent and surprised dictatorship. 3. Whether we agree or not, the senate has largely outlived its usefulness - if a matter of national significance can be made to look as trivial as this by a quota system senate president and his illiterate and greedy kinsmen and collaborators, then we the people if concerned enough, could respectfully ask them to stop pretending representing us. Let every man represent himself. 4. On Abaribe, he has always proved his mettle as a genius in the midst of brigands, it should be made known that the government cannot take any action against him, whether legislatively or via the executive goons, because his office as a legislator means he answers to his constituents alone. |
