Christianity EtcRe: "Chiedozie Modestus Chilaka Raised Dead Man To Life In Ihiala" - Facebook User by Rexyl(m): 8:50pm On Jul 12, 2016
It's those who have lost conscience that tell lies at will while those of warped minds can't just believe anything

Bible makes it clear that people should beware of false prophets, but it assures those who have faith in God that they would do greater exploits backed with miracles - of healing, deliverance and even resurrecting a dead person.

If the story is real may God continue to use the man. The power of healing, deliverance and even to raise the dead has been given to those who are spiritually qualified to have it in the name of Jesus.

So it is not a great deal if someone prays or preaches and dead person is raised to life. Jesus promised that for those who receive the power of Holy Spirit.

you think of miracle God does as he is pleased! No man has the power to raise departed soul back to life except the miracle is allowed under divine authority.

No man can claim to have the power of healing and deliverance except God. She could be raised if it pleases God, but what if her soul has has found heaven? Then all her sojourn on earth will be like a person that was caged since birth to death.

We could only wish her a beautiful transition from earthly shame to eternal glory at the blossom of Jesus.

Preaching, Power and Perseverance
The Early Church possessed and treasured all that was needed to build upon Christ and spread the truth about God's provision for salvation and redemption of mankind without fear. Acts 5:32: We are his (Jesus) witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him. The followings are discussed: Lame Man Healed; Christ Preached; Power of God Exhibited, and Persecuted but Persevering in Church.

Lame Man Healed: The works of apostles about preaching and witnessing for Christ were backed with power and divine authority. Miraculous signs and wonders followed proclamation of gospel as foretold by Jesus. One of these is healing of a man that was lame for many years. News of his healing was widely spread and many were surprised, knowing he was healed in the name Jesus (Acts 3:1-11). The man jumped and shouted of joy over the miraculous healing that caused bystanders to tremble and watch with amazement. Peter's action exhibited the gift and work of Holy Spirit in believers. The Holy Spirit empowers followers of Christ to proclaim the gospel, heal and deliver people from bondages of the devil.

Manifestation of the presence and work of God gives believers boldness to spread the good news. Peter used the opportunity of the healing to speak and call people unto Jesus, the Messiah and God's offer for restoration and salvation (Acts 3:12-21). He declared that God had glorified Jesus for making miracles possible in the name of Jesus. He referred to Jesus as the Holy One and the Just who had been sacrificed for sins of the world. Peter also declared that Jesus' crucifixion was according to the plan of God as indicated in the Old Testament. He therefore called on people, including those who crucified Jesus to repent and turn to God so that they could be ushered into the presence of God to receive forgiveness and enjoy times of refreshing.

Power of God Exhibited: The power of God was displayed by the way unfaithful followers were judged. Ananias and his wife, Sapphira thought they could deceive Holy Spirit by telling lies about their action. God's judgement for their hypocrisy was so severe but it passed a message and sent great fear to the people (Acts 5:1-6). God hates and His judgement on sin is so severe. Therefore people should turn to God from their sinful ways.

God's judgement leads to respect. Evidence of God's judgement on sins will make people fear and find it necessary to turn from sin. Sometimes people can be filled with pride and may not consider the need to confess sin and seek forgiveness. In such a situation sins will harden hearts and prevent Holy Spirit from entering and transforming lives (Acts 5:17-32; Hebrews 3:12&13). Some people can deceive others but God can't be fooled.

Persecuted but Persevering: The religious leaders and others were angry over activities of the apostles and Christ's followers that they arrested and jailed the apostles. While in the prison God sent an angel to release them, thus making them to continue preaching the message of new life through Jesus (Acts 5:17-32). The priests and Sanhedrin called for a meeting where the apostles were to be taken out of the prison and brought before them, unknowing that God's angel had released them to continue spreading the good news. Then they received the report that the apostles were inside the temple teaching people. The apostles declared to the religious rulers the need to obey God rather than apologize and stop preaching. Christian can engage in civil disobedience to rules that are against obedience to God.

The Sanhedrin had wanted the apostles to be put to death and their followers disbanded. But one of the Pharisees, Gamaliel stood against such rash action and advised religious rulers to allow the movement to continue, stating that it would fail if it was human effort, but if it was from God nothing could stop it (Act 5:33-42). They heeded the counsel, but beat the apostles and warned them to stop preaching in the name Jesus. The apostles found it worthy to obey God, suffer for Christ's sake (Mathew 5:10-12) and persevere in faithful service of the Lord. Lesson texts: Acts 3:1-26; 5:1-11, 17-42.
Christianity EtcRe: Sunday School Lessons: What Do You Gain To Share With Others? by Rexyl(op):
Life in the Early Church
The Early Church depended fully on God and the members related with love and unity which made it possible for Church to be filled with the power of Holy Spirit which enabled them to overcome opposition and spread the good news. Acts 2:42 - They continued steadfastly in the apostle's doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of the bread, and in prayer. The followings are discussed: Dynamics of a Healthy Church;Prayerful and Spirit-Filled Community, and Power Demonstrated through the Apostles.

Dynamics of a Healthy Church: The followers acted according to Christ's instruction requiring them to stay in Jerusalem until the outpouring and empowerment by the Holy Spirit. They finally received the promised spirit and steadfastly practised spiritual disciplines - learning God's word, fellowship, breaking of bread and prayer which helped them grow in faith and increase in numbers (Acts 2:42-47). Numerous signs and wonders were performed by the power of God in early Church that there was great awe among Believers and non believers. The early Christians were so united, they shared possessions and spent time together in worship and meeting needs of one another. Christians are charged to spread the good news and lead people to God.

The early Church experienced wonderful blessing and growth in spite of the persecution. The believers didn't allow the problems to dislodge and stop them. Rather, they prayed for the boldness and power to be more united, to overcome difficulties and do the work of God (Acts 4:32 -37). In love and unity believers powerfully testified to resurrection of Christ.

Prayerful and Spirit-Filled Community: Christ's followers must understand that opposition against the plan of God is to affirm His sovereignty. It has been stated that Jesus would overcome and bring God's salvation to all people (Psalm 2:1-2). The disciples asked God to give them the power and boldness to witness for Christ and perform miracles of healing and deliverance (Acts 4:23-30). God responded to their prayer by sending out His Spirit to fill and enable Christ's followers proclaim the gospel to the world.

Power Demonstrated through the Apostles: Powerful Signs and wonders of healing accompanied the work of the apostles. Through prayer and laying of hand the sick and those being tormented by evil spirits were healed (Acts 5:12-16). God has been using Christ's followers to perform miracles as they preach His word. Those who were moved by the signs and wonders and surrendered their lives to God were added to the Church. Manifestation of the power of God doesn't guarantee that people would put their faith in God, but it stirs faith of those who believe. Lesson texts: Acts 2:42-47; 4:23-37; 5:12-16.
Christianity EtcRe: Sunday School Lessons: What Do You Gain To Share With Others? by Rexyl(op):
Samuel Anoints David King

Our decisions and choices have temporary and lasting effects. God helps His people to live by His wisdom and make right choices that offer good rewards over time. 1 Samuel 16:13 - Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the mist of his brethren: and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. The followings are discussed: God Directs Samuel; God Chooses David, and God Positions David.

God Directs Samuel: Samuel mourned and parted ways with Saul following his rejection by God. Saul was rejected as a result of his disobedience and failure to repent. After the severed relationship Samuel parted company with the disgraced and disobedient king 15:34-35). We could experience a strained relationship when people close to us choose to reject God. Christians should neither harbour resentment nor reject them. We can feel the pain but must not allow it to weigh us down. It is our responsibility to pray for their restoration.

God instructed Samuel to go to Bethlehem and anoint a new king for Israel. God will change persons for disobedience as He carries out His plan. Samuel was afraid of Saul, thinking of possible attack if he discovered his move to anoint a new king (1 Samuel 16: 1-5). Samuel sought God for the direction through the challenges instead of relying on his own. Rather than pursue our ways through difficult circumstances we should turn to God for the direction. Samuel did as God instructed and began the process of anointing a new king. The instructions came after the other and required stepwise obedience. Samuel did as instructed until the scene was set to anoint a new king.

God Chooses David: Samuel might have thought God would consider physical status in anointing a new king as in the case of Saul. He was to be careful in his judgement of the man that would be anointed, and shouldn't consider physical appearance but the character (1 Samuel 16:6-11). Likewise, we should be careful in choosing people to fill positions in the service of God. Our choice should conform with criteria God looks at to choose people for His service. These are based on the spiritual condition of the heart. People can be impressed with qualification, position or status of an individual, Only God knows the true character of a person.

All sons of Jesse had passed before Samuel except David that wasn't invited. David might have been considered by his father as unlikely candidate to rule the nation but he was God's choice. Samuel didn't hesitate to anoint David as instructed by God (1 Samuel 16:12-13). Immediately David was anointed the Spirit of God came upon him and was prepared for special purpose.

God Positions David: The Spirit of God had left Saul, giving him over to evil spirits to possess and torment. This represented divine judgement for his rebellion (1 Samuel 16: 14-20). Saul's problem was compounded by his disobedience and unrepentant heart. He suffered emotional distress which came as a spiritual battle under demonic influence. Saul's emotional instability doesn't indicate all emotional problems are demonic in origin. However, David had been equipped with musical skills Saul needed to bring relieve to his troubled soul and mind. God hand was upon David as he was equipped to meet Saul's needs. God equips people with natural abilities that can open doors of opportunities for individuals.

David related with Saul with humility in spite of his anointing to succeed him. Saul was so impressed by the character of David that he appointed him to be his amour bearer. He trusted and made David a person that would protect him in times of danger and comfort him when he was being tormented by the spirits. David wasn't curious to succeed Saul, rather he set his eyes upon God for the guidance to emerge king. Lesson texts: 1 Samuel 15:34 through 16:23.
Christianity EtcRe: Sunday School Lessons: What Do You Gain To Share With Others? by Rexyl(op):
Disobedience to God Brings Judgement

God gave his commands to guide and bring our desires into conformity with His will. He chose Saul to be a king but rejected him when he had morally and spiritually failed in discharge of his duty. 1 Samuel 15:22 - And Samuel said, Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. The followings are discussed: God Rejects Saul as the King; Saul Grievous Disobedience, and Obedience is better than sacrifice.

God Rejects Saul as the King: Saul sought and received divine help through numerous battles since he was made the king but it got to a time he replaced obedience to godly instruction with arrogance. His son, Jonathan provoked war against the Philistine whose army was as sand compared to Israel's army which was so small in size. The people were gripped with fear and trembled as a result of their poor preparation to fight the battle ( 1 Samuel 13:1-7).

Saul couldn't have led Israel's army to battle and won without obedience to specific instructions from Samuel. The prophet gave the instruction which required Saul to trust him and place his faith in God. The people were intimidated by the presence of Philistine army and Saul could no longer wait until the time Samuel would come back. He took the matter into his hands and offered sacrifice to seek God's favour, which was Samuel's role. Upon his arrival Samuel confronted Saul for his misdeed which was rooted in disobedience to God's command (1 Samuel 13:8-14).

Offering of sacrifice to God was to be done by the prophet, and not the king. We often find it difficult to wait on God and can even be tempted to stop putting trust in God and search for our own solutions. At such times we should desire to honour God and think less of our fears. Though Saul admitted his disobedience, he couldn't escape consequences of his action. God called the people out of nations and demanded their obedience to Him over any other consideration.

Saul's Grievous Disobedience: Saul failed in another test of obedience to divine decree which was to affirm sovereignty of God in Israel. God assured the people of victory over the enemies but gave the instructions (1 Samuel 15:1-8 ). Saul couldn't heed the warning and failed to follow God's command the second time. Obedience to God while seeking divine direction is crucial for victory in a battle. Christians don't fight against nations as Israel did in the Old Testament, our battles are spiritual and involve struggle against temptation and all manners of evils. Therefore we should depend fully on God for victory.

Saul's disobedience and wrong choice brought serious consequence that led to inglorious end of reign as the king. Samuel was so sorrowful as God regretted having made Saul king (1 Samuel 15:7-11).

Obedience is Better than Sacrifice: Samuel confronted Saul over his disobedience and refusal to take responsibility for his actions, especially when he thought the victory was by his wisdom and disregarded God's instruction. He reviewed how God made and empowered him to be a king, his disobedience to God's command brought an end to his reign (1 Samuel 15: 12-21). Christian must take obedience to God's word seriously in the face of temptation and try to guard right relationship with God which guarantees victory. Temptation may come in a subtle way and present good intention, we must follow the way of God to understand its influence and overcome.

God expects obedience of His people as they serve Him. God detests and will punish people for the sin of disobedience to His commands (1 Samuel 15:22-29). God's rejection of Saul shows that consequences of disobedience are sorrowful. Disobedience to God's authority leads to judgement and sad end. We must approach God with humility and seek His way which is the best for our lives. Lesson texts: 1 Samuel 13:1-23; 15:1-35.

What masses are experiencing is daily increase in the prices of goods and services which amounts to hardship and unprecedented suffering.

Something urgent needs to be done before it gets to the level that masses will arise to reject government and find the way for themselves. Means of surviving is getting out reach and people are being pushed to the wall.

Whereas the above statement may be construed as being tribalistic, the GLARING FACTS of Nigeria's sordid history ATTESTS to it's VERACITY.

That both OBJ and GEJ united Nigeria by running truly pan-Nigerian administrations where merit took priority over tribe really really annoyed the northern elites.

That both OBJ and GEJ expanded the middle class ( dominated by southerners) really really annoyed the northern elites.

That both the OBJ and GEJ invested so much on education , Northern education especially, was taken as an unforgivable insult to the northern feudal elites.
How dare OBJ and GEJ remind them of the their glaring failures against their own people.

The irony is that the type of hatred that the northern elites have GEJ or anything related to GEJ administration is oddly directly proportional to the high level of attention GEJ paid to northern education and economic development.

Again, this might appear like a tribalistic rant, but let's do away with the political correctness and call a spade a spade. After all, Buhari and brethren have absolutely NO pretences about political correctness or their agenda.

Let's take a minute and reflect, for those old enough, that anytime things appear to be getting good in Nigeria , the northern elites intervene to take us back a few decades.

Look back at 1983, when this same Buhari committed treason against his fatherland by overthrowing a Democratic government, a growing and maturing democracy.
What happened to Nigeria thereafter ? undecided

Let's look back at 1993 when the whole nation united and voted for a new Democratic government, MKO Abiola.
Again, what happened next?
The same northern elites scuttle that peaceful transition that would have united Nigeria in more ways than imagined.

Then came Abacha, and the tyranny of that feudal Despot took Nigeria back another 2 decades.

Was it an accident that after POWER shifted to the South for the better part of the last 16years, that our economy began to grow, debts paid off, boost in education, boost in agriculture, boost in trade, the largest economic expansion since the colonial days, the largest expansion of the middle class ( the backbones of any economy) since the colonial era ? huh

Wow!
And what an odd coincidence (?) that the same Buhari is back, and is quickly taking Nigeria back to the LOCUST years, the years of hunger, despair and desolation.

What an odd, but very very sad coincidence indeed.

Leadership problem has continued to be the bane of development of this country. You will see these funny leaders who should have conducted themselves as true nationalists and unifying figures come up with programs and policies meant to create problems by the time they introduce religious and tribal sentiments.

Buhari is not helping Nigeria with lopsided appointments favoring his kinsmen at the expense of others. The same way Aregbe has successfully introduced religious sentiment in Osun State.
