CultureRe: I’m Sure, Igbo Are Descendants Of The Jews -noam Katz, Israeli Envoy by Rgp92: 12:21am On Nov 02, 2011
"The Nok culture appeared in Nigeria around 1000 B.C. and mysteriously vanished around 500 AD in the region of West Africa. This region lies in Central Nigeria. The culture’s social system is thought to have been highly advanced. The Nok culture was considered to be the earliest sub-Saharan producer of life-sized Terracotta. It is suggested that the society eventually evolved into the later Yoruba Civilization of Ife.[citation needed]
The refinement of this culture is attested to by the image of a Nok dignitary at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. The dignitary is portrayed wearing a "shepherds crook" affixed with an elastic material to the right arm ([3], [4]). The dignitary is also portrayed sitting with flared nostrils, and an open mouth suggesting performance. According to some accounts, based on artistic similarities to both early Yoruba art forms and Nok forms, there are connections between them and the contemporary Yoruba Race. Later brass, bronze, soapstone and terracotta sculptures of the Yoruba Ife and Yoruba Esie civilizations show significant similarities with those found at Nok."

tpia@:
only muslims meaning. . . . .? huh

I'm not muslim and I do consider the arabian peninsula migration story as a possible source of yoruba history, only that of course whoever left there passed through sudan.

however, this is no way means nigerians are descended from arabians unless any such claimant has concrete proof linking him/her to arab ancestors eg a mum, dad, grandma, grandpa, etc.

ie recent origin. And case by case basis.

my point is I'm not discounting it even if i also consider other stories and historical legends addressing the issue of origins.
We yoruba got nothing to do with arabian peninsula. We are descendent of Nok civilization. who probably migrated from northern part of Africa.

well, im only using the same logic you used of how ife founded bini. im yet to see any proof apart from some dated art forms.

yeah, and not only that, jesus was also conceived by a virgin  and he died a virgin only to wake up three days later and then disappeared again. sounds like a "true" nollywood home video
haha  grin grin grin

and so are the others. so since it is age u are using, it is:

----------->Oyo and many yoruba groups
Nok ---> igbo-ukwu ----> ife---->
----------->Bini
Dude, you're wrong. Yoruba people are descendent of Nok. It was Nok -> then Ife -> then yoruba and bini. Im not using age. Nok Used iron, it was passed down to Ife and later the rest. Learn history mate.!!1
CultureRe: The Art And Architecture Of Yorubaland! by Rgp92: 9:17am On Oct 31, 2011
"Bronze and terracotta art created by this civilization are significant examples of realism in pre-colonial African art.
In his book, "The Oral Traditions in Ile-Ife," Yemi D. Prince referred to the terracotta artists of 900 A.D. as the founders of Art Guilds, cultural schools of philosophy, which today can be likened to many of Europe's old institutions of learning which were originally established as religious bodies. These guilds may well be some of the oldest non-Abrahamic African centres of learning to remain as viable entities in the contemporary world."

cool
