The Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba, says there is ‘absolutely nothing’ stopping lecturers from returning to the classrooms ‘tomorrow’. According to him, the Federal Government has done all that it ought to do for the striking lecturers to return to the classrooms. The minister, who spoke on Tuesday evening while featuring on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme, said there was no truth that the government has not paid members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities in eight months. The PUNCH had earlier reported that on March 23,2020, ASUU declared a “total and indefinite strike” over the failure of the Federal Government to keep to the 2019 Memorandum of Action and over the lingering crisis on the controversial Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System. The union had brought forward five contentious issues in the 2019 MoA which are; revitalisation fund for universities, outstanding earned academic allowances, renegotiation of the 2009 agreement, proliferation of universities, particularly by state governments and establishment of visitation panels to universities. The IPPIS crisis had joined in around October 2019, after the union accused some vice-chancellors of forcing its members to enrol on the IPPIS platform. ASUU has also insisted on having an alternative model to IPPIS, called the University Transparency and Accountability Solution, which it urged the Federal Government to adopt for the universities. But speaking on Tuesday night, Nwajiuba, “I have not said there is no way the government will not ever have a different application. But I am saying this is what we have now. The government will continually improve its service. If UTAS, as we go ahead, becomes even a better platform for everybody and they offer it free to government, of course, we are a responsive government, we will simply migrate to it.” Source: https://punchng.com/nothing-stops-lecturers-from-resuming-tomorrow-minister/?amp=1

An independent panel of experts, headed by former Irish president Mary Robinson, has cleared the beleaguered leader of the African Bank of Development (AfDB) of corruption, according to a report obtained by AFP. Akinwumi Adesina, 60, a charismatic speaker known for his elegant suits and bow ties, became the first Nigerian to helm the AfDB in 2015 — but a 15-page report earlier this year claimed that under his watch the bank had been tarred by poor governance, impunity, personal enrichment and favouritism. The panel of three experts, led by Robinson alongside Gambia’s Chief Justice Hassan Jallow and the World Bank’s integrity vice president Leonard McCarthy, cleared Adesina of all charges alleged by whistleblowers. “The Panel concurs with the Committee in its findings in respect of all the allegations against the President and finds that they were properly considered and dismissed by the Committee,” Monday’s report concluded. The African banking institution and Adesina — who is the sole candidate for the bank’s August’s presidential elections — has been battered by the rollercoaster of allegations after the whistleblowers’ complaints were leaked to the media in April. The former Nigerian finance minister had always stated he was “innocent” of the charges. Source: https://www.vanguardngr.com/2020/07/afdb-investigative-panel-declares-adesina-innocent-of-all-charges/

The Freedom lovers: About 95% of students belong to this category. Being under the watch of their parents has turned many to gentle child at home. THE Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has set the benchmark for admission into tertiary institutions for the 2020/21 school session. The cut off points ranged from 100 and above for Colleges of Education, 120 and above for Polytechnics and 160 and above for universities. The Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, disclosed this during JAMB’s policy virtual meeting in Abuja, yesterday. This came as the Federal Government also, yesterday, listed conditions for schools to reopen in the country. Oloyede also disclosed that a total of 612,557 candidates were offered admission in the 2019/20 session, with about 510,957 not able to secure admission during the same period. “Of the 1,157,977 candidates who sat for the UTME in 2019, about 612,557 were admitted,” he said in his opening address on the occasion. Oloyede noted that candidates waiting for their results would only be considered when they upload their results on the Board’s website. In his remarks, Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, directed JAMB and tertiary institutions to proceed with the conduct of 2020/2021 admissions. Adamu was represented by the Minister of State for Education, Mr Emeka Nwajiuba. Admission processes are expected to commence in August based on the guidelines released by JAMB. The minister urged JAMB and tertiary institutions to consider candidates with previous years’ Senior School Certificate Examination and other qualifying results while screening candidates for admission. He said government would make arrangement to accommodate applicants who would be taking the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations to be conducted by the West African Examinations Council, WAEC; National Examinations Council, NECO, among others, when the opportunity to do so was worked out. jonesky080:I have already been admitted on jamb caps as well as the school portal. |
Any useful advice will be very appreciated |
Please help me move this to FP. I sincerely need all the advice I can get right now. I used same profile to register my 2019 UTME and Direct Entry but was fortunate to be admitted via DE, though with a different course other than the course I initially applied for. The problem now is that I am unable to print my JAMB admission letter for the DE because I was made to understand that I need to effect a change of course first but it turns out that whenever I attempt to change course ,it keeps reflecting my UTME details, thus making it impossible. I thereafter created a ticket at JAMB support site and was adviced to convert my UTME to DE as JAMB do not allow registration of both UTME and DE. I yielded to the advice and went to JAMB zonal office in Benin but was told the platform is no longer available because of the 2020 UTME/DE Registration. I gave a feedback on the ticket I created and I got a reply that I should go back, that the platform is still working. I did as I was told but the staff in the Benin zonal office insisted that it wasn't available. I am so confused and frustrated. I left secondary school in 2015 and ever since I have been struggling to get admission. Now that I am fortunate in securing one, I am met with this huddle that seems impossible to cross. Please house, kindly help a friend cause I am desperate at this time. |

2 Corinthians 11:3-4 KJV But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. from NEPA to PHCN to BEDC As the name changes so the degeneration heightens |
Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, has again decried the gross inefficiency of Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) in providing stable electricity for residents of the state, who will celebrate Christmas and the New Year festivities in darkness. Obaseki said Edo people deserve a better service provider than BEDC, more so, considering the fact that Edo State is host to Azura Power plant which generates over 700MW of electricity to the national grid. “At a time families should be enjoying uninterrupted electricity supply as they celebrate Christmas and New Year in the state, BEDC is again unable to live up to the minimum expectation of providing electricity. “No excuse is good enough for the abysmal failure of BEDC and we appeal to President Muhammadu Buhari to without delay, revoke the operational licence of BEDC and rescue Edo people and residents from the crappy service being delivered to our people who are harassed weekly by BEDC to pay for electricity that it did not supply,” Obaseki said. He lamented that “Forcing electricity consumers to pay for services they did not enjoy with estimated bills is tantamount to corruption, which the Buhari-led government is committed to nipping in the bud.” Obaseki wondered why Nigerians in Borno and Kaduna states are celebrating uninterrupted power supply yet, Edo people are in unending darkness. The governor, further said that much as he is not a believer in conspiracy theories, he is however constrained to believe that BEDC is on a mission to sabotage the developmental efforts of his administration. “There can be no better time to enjoy electricity than during the Christmas holiday and only an enemy of progress will make Edo people spend the holidays in darkness,” the governor emphasised. He expressed his regrets over the unnecessary sufferings associated with celebrating the holiday period in BEDC-induced darkness and assured that his administration will continue to work for better deals across all sectors of the state. Abuja – The meeting between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) ended without any conclusion on Tuesday. Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, ASUU National President, while speaking with newsmen at the end of the closed door meeting in Abuja noted that negotiations were still ongoing. He said both parties were yet to reach a concrete decision. “For now, we have started to discuss. We are yet to reach any concrete decision. Once we have more information, we will make ourselves available to the press. “The union will reconvene very soon to continue negotiations,” he said. The meeting held at the instance of the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu was to find lasting solution to the ongoing strike by the university lecturers. ASUU had on Nov. 4, embarked on an indefinite strike over poor funding of Nigerian universities and non-implementation of previous agreements by government. Meanwhile, the President, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Mr Danielson Akpan has urged both parties to have a common ground so that the universities can reopen. He said they must put the interest of the country and Nigerian students above any other thing.(NAN) Source: Vanguard Newspaper |
