So sorry for not getting back to you sooner. No one should make you feel bad for asking questions .

I can tell you that those jobs are in need here and come in different forms. There may be some certs you may need to acquire. I know about getting a Standard First Aid with CPR and AED license. This involves a 2-day training. Check www.stmarkjamestraining.ca. I know someone who used them back in 2019.

First and foremost get a plan for yourself if you are not yet here. Know all of the prerequisites needed to get you one of these jobs. Pay close attention too to the salaries in the link I posted. It may guide you to where you may want to focus.

Both are cities I am very familiar with however to answer your question more context will be needed.

Here's what I mean:

Are you single?
Are you asking for your family?
What's important to you in your choice for where to stay?

Calgary
Personally for me I have a family and love quiet neighborhoods so in Calgary I chose to stay in the NW Quadrant.
Neighborhoods like Sherwood, Evanston, Sagehill, Kincora, Nolan Hill, Carrington appeal to folks who want to stay away from the city center and lead quiet lives. The buildings are newer and more spacious. Of course, every neighborhood would have some sort of area that caters to your groceries and other amenities so you will find that you will be close to a lot of the things you need including schools, for your kids.

For others that may consider their budgets and some other factors they make their choice based on those. NE Calgary has a reputation for having affordable accommodation but also has a reputation for being known for petty crimes. Now I can tell you that may not always be the case as some of those crimes are opportunistic and can happen anywhere. Because of this even decent Neighborhoods in the NE get a bad rep.

SW is considered the most desirable and this is due to having some of its communities closer to downtown with more access to public transportation.

Overall, NW tends to have newer communities, however you will need to own a vehicle to enjoy getting around at your pace. It caters very well to single individuals as well as families. If you are still vibrant and looking for that life of always going in and out, then consider getting somewhere close to downtown Calgary like the Beltline or East Village areas.


Edmonton

First and foremost, Edmonton can be likened to Ikeja and then Calgary to Abuja. These are cities both in the province of Alberta but different in make up and looks. Calgary is a world-class city and I say so without joking. It has repeatedly made the list of the most livable cities to live in every year. Edmonton has an older feel to it. It is bright in the summer (2 months or 3 if we are lucky) and then the winters are colder than Calgary. Calgary enjoys Chinook winds that make the winter days(some of it) tolerable.
Edmonton is the seat of Government and a lot of its jobs come from the province. Calgary looks like a larger city and clearly benefited from being the Oil and Gas capital where a lot of multinationals are based.
Edmonton is starting to build newer communities in areas just like Calgary however you DEFINITELY need a car and will help yourself by learning to either park at a park and ride then take the Bus or Train. Coming from Calgary, I found this tiring having been used to driving everywhere and getting parking relatively easier than I did in Edmonton.

So my recommended neighborhoods in Edmonton based on my preferences would be:
1. Sherwood Park (some consider this on the outskirts but it's a 25 min ride to downtown)
2. Windermere (Lovely neighborhood, same time travelling to downtown Edmonton)
3. Oliver
4. University of Alberta areas ( If you are single and want to stay close to downtown)


Jobs
I find it odd that you are interested in where to live and not about Job prospects, looks like money is the least of your worries which is good

Calgary has jobs but they are competitive. Why? Calgary is very cosmopolitan and has people from all of the world as residents. You're dealing with really smart folks all applying for the same Job. As this is the case, businesses thrive here. There are lots of opportunities.

Edmonton while it may not be appealing to me, I have found to have even better paying jobs and I know as I have done business there in the past. However these days you can live in Calgary and do your remote job based in Edmonton and this is what most people are doing today.
One thing I can say by concluding is no matter where you settle, you'll find really good Nigerians to help you settle. Do not neglect help from good Nigerians looking to genuinely help you. The help and assistance we all received as newbies here, we are looking to pay forward. As such most newcomers find it strange coming in from Nigeria that there are folks willing to do so much for you. They Understand as they've been there before.


This weekend (tomorrow) I will be going on another road trip. It's the summer and this time I should enjoy the Alberta rockies. If it's your thing I'll post some pictures here. I'll also do a video of it and post on the YouTube Channel. Please feel free to ask more questions on here.

Volunteer experience can count towards work experience on your resume but it won't count for express entry.

For any job experience to be considered for points under express entry, it has to be paid.
