PoliticsThrowback Pictures Of President Buhari In Ogoni Land by Ridwan1821(op): 1:51pm On Jun 02, 2016
Throwback photos: Buhari’s visit to Ogoni land

President Muhammadu Buhari has today, June 2, cancelled his visit to Ogoni land to kick off the cleaning program.
While no official reason was given for the cancellation of the trip, it followed threats by Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) on the life of Buhari.
However, President Buhari as Nigeria’s military Head of State visited Tekuru Waterside in Bodo-Gokana, Ogoni Kingdom in Rivers state where he had gone to commission a fish pond on the 15th of August 1984.
His host then was the military governor of Rivers state, Police Commissioner Fidelis Oyakhilome.
According to Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, President Buhari will visit Ogoni land in Rivers state soon.
It is the second time in less than two weeks that President Buhari would cancel a scheduled event outside Abuja.
On the night of May 22, Buhari suspended his scheduled official visit to Lagos state fixed for the morning of Monday, May 23, citing “scheduling difficulties” as reason.

PoliticsIkpeazu Receives Rousing Welcome From Traders In Abia by Ridwan1821(op): 5:04pm On May 19, 2016
– Governor Okezie Ikpeazu is well loved by the Abia people
– His giant strides in all sectors in the state is positively rubbing off on many Abians
– His recent visit to Ariaria market in Aba shows the people are in love with their leader

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu recently paid an unscheduled visit to Ariaria International Market, Aba where he received a rousing welcome by the mammoth crowd of traders.
Governor Ikpeazu’s effort geared towards putting Ariria International Market and other markets in the state in good shape may have informed the decision of the traders to show love to their leader.
The governor established the Abia State Market Development Committee by Ikpeazu’s administration, led by Chief Solomon Nwaigwe to ensure that markets across the state are of international standard.
Governor Ikpeazu’s visit to the market was to inspect the ongoing construction of roads around the market which is expected to further open up the market and boost commercial activities around it.
The ongoing construction includes a drainage system that will tackle the flooding int he area and also a dedicated bus route which will take traders to and from the market to reduce traffic around the market.
On his part, Chief Nwaigwe hinted that construction of all the routs inside the Main Timber Market at Uratta along the Enugu Port-Harcout Highway will commence soon.
Governor Ikpeazu had since hinted on plans that his administration is making efforts to ensure that Made-in-Aba products take over major Nigerian markets soon.
Ikpeazu was recently in the news for his bold decision to boycott eating of foreign rice.
The governor, it was gathered, has refused to take foreign rice in the last six months as he has reportedly struck it out of his menu.
His reason is that he wants to demonstrate to everyone that Nigeria, with her rich agricultural potentials, has the capacity to fend for itself in food production.

CrimeBoko Haram Based Destroyed By Nigerian Troops by Ridwan1821(op): 9:00pm On May 06, 2016
– The Nigerian army has scored another big success against Boko Haram
– A administrative based used by the terrorists was destroyed today, taking out militants in the process
– The news comes not long after the Nigerian army launched a major offensive operation into Sambisa forest

Nigerian troops assisted by Civilian Joint Task Force volunteers discovered and destroyed a Boko Haram administrative base today while on patrol to clear the remnants of Boko Haram terrorists near the villages of Ngula and Kukuruk villages in Alagarno.
The troops, comprised of 156 Task Force Battalion and 29 Task Force Brigade soldiers, engaged the Boko Haram terrorists in a gun battle that lasted hours, following which some terrorists escaped with gunshot injuries.
The army’s spokesman, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, reported to Vanguard that the Nigerian troops made a startling discovery in the area after found out that it served as the terrorists’ administration base, field hospital and bomb factory.

PoliticsFayose, Mimiko In Battle For The Soul Of Southwest PDP by Ridwan1821(op): 2:51pm On May 04, 2016
– There seems to be battle between governor Fayose and governor Mimiko over who controls Southwest PDP
– Two parallel meetings will hold today, May 4 at the Akure, the Ondo State capital, and Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State
– Both meetings is to deliberate on the party’s national convention

PDP southwest leaders meeting is currently ongoing at Akure the Ondo state capital.
Surprisingly, Ekiti state governor, Ayo Fayose is in attendance.
Below is our initial report:
Ahead of the May 21 national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party, the battle for the soul of South-west PDP has pitched two governors in region against each other, The Nation newspaper is reporting.
Two parallel meetings will hold today, May 4 at the Akure, the Ondo State capital, and Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State, to discuss its proposed national convention.
While the Akure meeting is at the instance of Ondo state governor Olusegun Mimiko, The Ijebu-Igbo meeting is convened by of Senator Buruji Kashamu (Ogun East) and Ekiti state governor, Ayo Fayose who is supporting the return of Senator Modu Sheriff as the party’s chairman.
Governor Mimiko on his part is leading party elements opposed to the zoning of the national chairmanship to the North and moves by the chairman, Senator Modu Sheriff, to extend his tenure beyond the May 21 convention.
Quoting a source, the report said the real meeting of PDP leaders in Southwest will take place in Ondo and not Ijebu.
“The real meeting of Yoruba leaders in the PDP takes place tomorrow (today) in Akure. The governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, is convening the meeting on behalf of the leaders. We know that some people have slated a parallel meeting at Ijebu-Igbo. But, that Ijebu-Igbo meeting is a non-event.
“It is possible that some leaders from other zones will also attend the Akure meeting in solidarity with the cause of the Southwest.
“There is an effort to relegate the Southwest to the background in the PDP by some elements who are sacrificing our interest on the altar of their 2019 ambition. These are the Southwest elements backing the zoning of the chairmanship and the presidential candidate of the PDP to the North.”
Those expected at the Akure meeting include former deputy chairman Chief Olabode George, former transport and aviation minister Chief Ebenezer Babatope, former works minister Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe, former majority leader of the House of Representatives Hon. Mulikat Adeola-Akande, former sports and special duties minister Prof. Taoheed Adedoja, former minister of state for the federal capital territory (FCT) Chief Jumoke Akinjide, Senator Femi Kila, Senator Bode Olajumoke, Ambassador Dare Bejide, Chief Ladosu Ladipo, Dr, Doyin Okupe, Chief Yekini Adeojo, Chief Joju Fadairo, Prince Nekan Olateru-Olagbegi and Capt. Tunji Shelle.
At a recent meeting of the Southwest PDP Elders’ Summit in Lagos convened by Bode George, party leaders, especially those attending the Akure meeting, vowed to resist the zoning arrangement, saying that it was in bad faith.
Defending his decision to hold a parallel meeting in Ijebu, Kashamu through his spokesperson, Mr. Austin Oniyokor said he was sure of pulling a bigger crowd to Ijebu Igbo than the Akure meeting.
“We have invited all members of the BoT from the zone. A member of the BoT, Alhaji Shuaib Oyedokun, will chair the meeting.
“We have invited all PDP past and serving governors from the zone, past and serving members of the state Assembly, governorship candidates and their deputies in the 2015 election, 50 leaders from each of the states apart from those already listed.
“The agenda is to deliberate on the offices zoned to the South-West and how to share the offices among the states.”
According to the zoning formula, the national secretary, the national publicity secreatry and the national auditor are zoned to the Southwest.
Meanwhile, Shehu Gabam, a chieftain of the PDP in Bauchi state, has threatened to defect to another party. Gaban complained that the vision and mission of the founding fathers of the party have been neglected by members holding key positions within the PDP.

CrimeFulani Herdsmen Attack: 12 Things Cattle Breeders Sec Said by Ridwan1821(op): 11:20am On Apr 29, 2016
– Baba Othman Ngelzarma, the national secretary of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association explained the mayhem Fulani herdsmen are unleashing on communities across Nigeria
– He said the herdsmen are victims of the perpetrators and also branded as the culprits
– There are criminals among the Fulani herdsmen, Ngelzarma said
– According to him, Fulani men that carry AK-47 are cattle rustlers

Baba Othman Ngelzarma, the national secretary of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association has condemned the attack on Enugu communities by suspected Fulani herdsmen.
Speaking on Thursday, April 28, on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Ngelzarma said the perpetrators were criminals and must not be allowed to go unpunished.
Baba Othman Ngelzarma speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily
According to him, most of the herdsmen get their livelihood from rearing of cattle and they have been spreading to other parts of the country due to neglect from the National Assembly, which is exposing them to danger.
The cattle breeders secretary called on the National Assembly to focus on the grazing bill as it will help curb the violence between herdsmen and indigenes.
Here are 12 takeaways from what he said.
1. Fulani herdsmen are also victims of the perpetrators as they are been kidnapped almost every day for ransom but these incidents were not reported.
2. Fulani herdsmen are victims and culprits at the same time. It is sad that despite being a victim, they are also seen as the culprits.
3. The clashes came as a result of the absence of grazing reserves and the protection of those reserves.
4. If the past administration had done their work, we wouldn’t be having the problem of Fulani herdsmen attack we are having today.
5. The administration of President Muhammadu Buhari has succeeded in recovering quite of a number of cattles from the herdsmen.
6. Fulani herdsmen were pushed to the Southern part of the country because of the search for grass and water. If grass and water were provided in the reserves, they wouldn’t have the desire to go anywhere.
7. Some people somewhere are out to profile the Fulani herdsmen as terrorists. Some want to spoil the name of Fulani herdsmen.
8. Because of the profiling, any community that sees Fulani herdsmen become jittery and the youths go to provoke them by shooting their cows.
9. The clashes began in Benue state. People were coming to ask the herdsmen for money before they can to graze in their community and when they refused to pay, they kill their cows which sparked violence.
10. There are criminals among the Fulani herdsmen and there is very little the Miyetti Allah can do.
11. Fulani herdsmen lost a lot of cattles as a result of cattle rustling.
12. Average Fulani herdsmen don’t carry AK-47. If you see a Fulani man with AK-47, he must be a cattle rustler.

EducationPandemonium In UI As Students Go On Rampage by Ridwan1821(op): 1:02pm On Apr 26, 2016
– Students are said to be on rampage at the University of Ibadan
– Victimization of a student is said to be the cause of the violent frenzy
– The institution is said to have been shut down following the irate developments

Thousands of students of the University of Ibadan (UI) this morning went on rampage and shutdown the school over the school’s management victimization of a student who took part in the last protest organized by the students.
The aggrieved students also vented their anger over persistent power failure in the school and lack of water supply.
UI management had added an extra semester to a 500 Level Engineering student, Michael Tunji Epeti for partaking in a protest hundreds of students of the school staged recently to demand for improvement in power supply and lack of water in the school.
Very early in the morning, thousands of students, led by the Students Union President stormed the school gate and shut it while security men at the gate watched helplessly.
Activities at the citadel of learning have been paralyzed as no vehicle is allowed in and out of the school.
Lecturers and others who live off campus could not drive into the school this morning as all gates leading to the institution were shut by the students.
There was traffic gridlock on front of the school and on UI road as the large number of vehicles wanting to enter the school could not do so.
A post graduate student, who craved anonymity, told our reporter that massive crowd of students turned out for the protest and that people were not allowed to snap pictures so that the school’s management would not single out more students for victimization.
He said the students want the management of the school to reverse their decision to impose an extra semester on Epeti for taking part in a protest, saying that until the management reverses the decision, the school gate would remain closed.
He added that the students were also protesting poor power supply to the school as well as lack of water, saying that he did not even had his bath in the morning.
A former student’s union leader of the school, popularly called ‘Tcool’ said the student’s victimization was inappropriate, saying that if the students did not fight it out now, more students would be victimized also.
Recently, the school management forced post graduate students seeking accommodation in the school to sign an undertaken that they would not complain as the school could not guarantee them power supply and water in the hostels.
In early March, UI students on a Saturday also disrupted activities in the school by shutting down the school gate and protested vehemently over poor power supply and inadequate water supply in the school.

FoodBuhari Orders Release Of 10,000 Tons Of Grain by Ridwan1821(op): 10:35pm On Apr 24, 2016
– President Buhari unhappy over impression people have of his change mantra
– Spokesperson reveals how the president has been having sleepless nights over the state of the nation
– States that president’s new order is in the interest of the people

President Muhammadu Buhari has given a new order after having series of sleepless nights.
According to the senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity, Garba Shehu, the president has ordered the release of 10,000 tons of grains from the national strategic grains reserves, for national distribution.
In a statement issued by the presidential spokesperson, President Buhari also directed Chief Audu Ogbeh, the Nigerian minister of Agriculture, to ensure that all able-bodied men and women in internally displaced persons camps be aided in returning to farming as soon as possible.
While rejecting insinuations that poverty and lack are products of the ‘Change’ mantra, the presidency said:
“This should be dismissed as an erroneous and misplaced opposition criticism. The President understands the pain and the cries of the citizens of this country and he is spending sleepless nights over how he can make life better for everyone.
“Contrary to assertions by a faction of the opposition Conference of Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP), the President’s energy and focus are on changing the life of Nigerians, with a view to making it better than he met it.
“Change is a process. Change does not happen overnight. Change can be inconvenient. Change sometimes comes with pain. Over the past year, the government has been working night and day to deliver on its promise of change to Nigerians, and the painful process is still ongoing.
“This is work in progress. As life gradually returns to normal in much of the country and the northeast in particular, agriculture will resume and traders from neighbouring African countries will once again feel safe to do business with us, yet another boost for our economy.”

Fuel scarcity persists in the oil-rich Nigeria since January. Pipeline vandalism is one of the factors which case it.
Last week the presidency promised to treat pipeline vandals in the same way as terrorists. In their return, the militant groups in the Niger Delta said they would not be intimidated by the threats of the Buhari administration and would continue their actions in the interests of their people.

CrimePresident Buhari Received Needed Intelligence For Rescuing Chibok Girls by Ridwan1821(op): 9:54am On Apr 22, 2016
– The United Nations representative discussed the rescue of the Chibok girls with President Buhari
– She says that USA moved all needed information on finding missing girls to the Nigerian government
– The UN promised to support Nigeria by all means, adding that it will not rest until the girls would be freed

The permanent representative to the United Nations Samantha Power has said that USA has shared all needed intelligence on finding the Chibok schoolgirls with President Muhammadu Buhari.
Samantha Power was answering to the questions of the State House correspondents after the meeting with President Buhari.
The official noted that the US would not rest until the girls were saved.
She continued that the recent video obtained by the CNN was actually evidence that the girls were still alive and to essentially enable the families of the girls engage with the government.
Mrs. Power said: “The issue of the Chibok girls and other adaptations is of huge priority to the U.S. And it was the issue I discussed at length with President Buhari today.
“We had moved to provide the information and intelligence needed to the Nigerian authorities. We have in recent months been able to allocate additional information sharing platforms and additional surveillance to aid the fight against Boko Haram.
“We will not rest. We will continue to deepen our partnership and be more effective without partners on the ground.
“We are determined to support Nigeria and other neighboring countries’ efforts to secure more rescues of abducted people and releases in the days and weeks ahead.
The mothers of the Chibok girls are crying while watching the recent video showing the missing girls
“What we talked about was the importance of pursuing every need related to the Chibok girls and making sure we have a mechanism whereby parents and family members who have been abducted by Boko Haram can be given information, whereby videos can be examined and family members offer their feedbacks on their impression on the videos to have a process by which family of those who are missing work more constructively with the government and, indeed, with those involved in the operations in trying to rescue the girls.”
“So that was the nature of our discussion with the president. The recent video was one part of our discussion and the larger puzzle that we need to be unraveled.”
Friends and family members of Nigerian schoolgirls abducted two years ago say they have recognized some of them in a new video that recently emerged online.
The girls were taken from their dormitories in the town of Chibok by the Boko Haram sect on April 14, 2014.
The Nigerian army has been claiming victory over the terrorists, pointing to the destruction of different militant camps spread across the group’s stronghold in north-eastern Nigeria and the killing of many members of the group.
Meanwhile, the video shows that despite these successes , the group has been able to hold secure locations where they can hide the girls, even if only in divided groups.
The US officials recently said that they found the location of the missing girls but can’t rescue them now because of the fear of the Boko Haram revenge.

PoliticsSaraki Appears In CCT Amid Tight Security by Ridwan1821(op):
The trial of Senate President Bukola Saraki at the Code of Conduct Tribunal took a new turn on Monday, April 18, as Danladi Umar, the chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) directed that the trial will henceforth proceed day to day until the conclusion of the case.

Danladi Umar, the judge presiding over the trial of Bukola Saraki also promised that justice will be served in the case.
However, the embattled Senate president however opened up on his on-going trial at the CCT, saying the trial will not affect the activities at the red chambers of the National Assembly.
Appearing in court today, April 20, the Senate president looked quite relaxed.
According to Daily Post, four Senators accompanied the Senate president to the Code of Conduct Tribunal for his trial.
The senators are Shaaba Lafiagi – Kwara North, Senator Kabiru Gaya – Kano, Senator Rafiu Ibrahim – Kwara South and one other Senator yet to be identified.
The Punch reports that Saraki filed another application before the CCT, to stall his ongoing trial on charges of false asset declaration.
Saraki whose numerous applications seeking to stall the trial had been dismissed by the CCT itself and others including the Supreme Court, through his fresh motion, is asking the tribunal chairman, Danladi Umar, to disqualify himself.
Saraki, through his fresh motion filed before the CCT, asked Umar to disqualify himself from the trial on the basis that the tribunal chairman is allegedly under criminal investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
He alleged in the motion that Umar would likely be biased in the handling of his trial since the EFCC which is allegedly leading the prosecution of the Senate President before the CCT is also investigating the tribunal chairman.
The fresh application has not been served on the prosecution in the case.

PoliticsSaraki's Twitter Fans Demand 'Justice' For Him by Ridwan1821(op): 2:20pm On Apr 14, 2016
The Senate president, Bukola Saraki is standing trial for a 13 count charge of corruption including false asset declaration filed against him by the federal government at the code of conduct tribunal (CCT).

Saraki is alleged to have lied about the assets he declared in 2003, when he was still the governor of Kwara state. In a recent move to evade justice, Saraki has sued the chairman, Danladi Umar and others involved in his trial before the federal high court.

The Senate president in the suit is contending that his trial before the code of conduct tribunal, as currently constituted is a violation of his right, insisting there was no way he could get justice.

Political observers and highly placed Nigerians, who have watched intensely with fingers crossed over the revelation and happenings at the ongoing trial of the Senate president took to a micro-blogging site (Twitter) to hashtag #JusticeForSaraki and make public their stance on the matter.

Some of the concerned Nigerians recalled that the former governor of Lagos state now a national leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu had similar issue in September 2011 under the administration of then president Goodluck Jonathan, but was left off the hook.
Just recently, the publicity secretary of the Lagos state chapter of the APC, Joe Igbokwe in a statement berated the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the state for calling on the CCT to re-visit the case against Tinubu.

The state’s publicity secretary said the PDP’s call was targeted at tarnishing the image of the APC national leader.

PoliticsEdo Guber Election: Oshiomhole Gives INEC Strict Order by Ridwan1821(op): 9:32am On Apr 14, 2016
– Governor Adams Oshiomhole received the new resident electoral commissioner, Sam Olumekun, at the state’s government house in Benin city
– The reiterated that he has been a believer and preacher of one man, one vote and gave directive to the new REC
– The REC announced the date for party primaries, commencement of campaign and the actual date for the election

Governor Adams Oshiomhole directed INEC to flush out corrupt officials before election.
Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo state has reportedly given strict directives to the Independent national Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead the governorship election in the state.
Leadership reports that the governor, who spoke at a meeting with the new resident electoral commissioner (REC), Sam Olumekun, who paid him a courtesy visit at the government house, Benin city, directed him to flush out corrupt officials, who were fingered for aiding electoral fraud in the last general election.
“Allow me, on behalf of the government and the good people of Edo State, across all the party divide to welcome you to Edo State and to pray the God almighty to protect you as He has protected your predecessors, guide you, give you wisdom, courage and robust energy to superintend over the preparations and the conduct of the forthcoming election and beyond.
“I am a believer as some of your officers on ground may have briefed you. I am a believer and a preacher of one man, one vote because for too long, the promise of democracy was compromised in our country and my campaign matra was that you must fight election fraud, not because of me but because of our country.
“It was clear to me that unless you have an accountable government, poverty will remain endemic and society will remain unsafe. But I am happy that several years down we have practiced it,” Oshiomhole said.
Meanwhile, the electoral commission on April 13 listed the guidelines and timetable for the gubernatorial election scheduled to hold in the state on September 10.
The electoral umpire announced that party primaries will hold from June 2 to the July 4, 2016; while campaigns will kick off on Sunday June 10, 2016.
The commission also announced that official register of voters for the election will be published on August 11, while the election proper will take place on September 10.
Meanwhile, the governor has been at logger head with some of his party leaders in the state over choice of gubernatorial candidate because he wants Godwin Obaseki to be his successor.
Charles Idahosa, a special adviser on politics to Oshiomhole reveled to newsmen in Benin city, that the governor is in need of someone who has what it takes to look inwards for the needed funds to develop the state.
The governor’s aide said the present economic reality requires a professional economist, not a politician who gives political considerations before carrying out programmes even when those consideration are not realistic.
On perceived backlash should Obaseki be fielded as candidate of APC, Idahosa said people should not be deceived by what happened in the last National Assembly election where PDP defeated APC to judge what will happen in the 2016 governorship election, adding that the Benins cannot be fooled because they will never forget what Oshiomhole has done to develop the state.
He assured that there would be free and fair party primaries, stressing that whoever APC picks as candidate would beat the candidate of the PDP hands down, saying: “the beating of 2012 governorship election will be a child’s play.”
