I think all these Islamic rules are mostly enforced on poor people.

It is not enforced on poor people, rather we enforce it on ourselves.. You see hell rufai shakes hand with an opposite sex, these poor deluded people won't see any problem with it. You see Emir of kano youngest wife, uploaded her pictures on Internet, these people won't see taken pictures as haram then, neither will they even think she's a married woman. But wait till an average poor man like them do all these things, that's when you will see hadiths that you've never seen before, and different scholars that you've never come across. I don't know the kind of mentality some people carry about. And if you talk now, they will say, you are pathetically ignorant, or that you don't know anything about Islam. Some will even say you are a fake Muslim..Smh.

Buhari's daughter the other day defied all these and none of the scholars said anything about it. neither did any of those fanatics on facebook that threatened that Hausa actress said anything about it. Hitherto, i am yet to see a thread on Nairaland that criticized the wedding as well. Aside the fact that music of all sorts were played there (even Olamide), lots of pre wedding pictures were taken and wedding pictures, I'm yet to see any Nigerian scholar criticize it.

The authorities of the Umaru Yar’Ádua University, Katsina, have denied discriminating against Christian students in the approval granted a students religious association to operate on its campus.
The Acting Dean of Student Affairs of the University, Sulaiman Kankara, had in January 17 memo informed students of a new guideline for the registration of clubs and associations in the institution.
In the circular, Dr. Kankara indicated that participation in clubs and associations, including departmental ones, were strictly optional and that no student should be compelled to pay dues.
He also outlawed the formation of tribal and local government associations in the university.
But the controversial part of the memo which made the document to go viral was the dean’s pronouncement that the “Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN) is the only religious association allowed to operate on campus.”
After the memo was shared on social media, the university came under ferocious attacks from many Nigerians, with some commentators saying the guideline was part of government’s plot to Islamise Nigeria.
But when contacted on Sunday morning, Dr. Kankara said that aspect of the guideline was actually targeted at Islamic groups which were beginning to mushroom on campus, creating division among students of the same faith.
The dean said, “Actually there is one misconception in the memo. But the fact of the matter is that in Umaru Yar’Ádua University, there is no association known as Christian Students Association.


“There is one religious association and subsidiary Islamic students associations like the Tijjanniya Students Movement in Nigeria, Academic Forum of Islamic Movement in Nigeria and many associations like that.
“They are Islamic students association. So what we want is to have a single union which will be the mouthpiece of muslim students and that is the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria.
“It has nothing to do with any Christian group because up till now, I have not received any application requesting registration of Christian Students Society.
“And once they do that, we are ready to register them. Even as at last week, we said the two religious group to be recognised by the university will be the Muslim one and one from Christian side.
“Up till now we are to receive any application for the registration of any Christian association in the university from any group."

Chapter 1, Part 2: Section 10 of the Nigerian Law states that:

The Government of the Federation or of a State shall not adopt any religion as State Religion

So those saying Kastina is a Muslim state and that they have the right to promulgate any law that favors a particular religion and not the other — thereby denying them of their freedom of association, must be high of weed.

Yes we have Christian dominanted as well as Muslim dominanted States in Nigeria. However, saying a state is a Christian state or Muslim state is nonsense, because Nigeria is a secular state. When you say, Christian state or Muslim state, you are dividing the country along religious line which shouldn't be.

Schools don't always build religious worship centers for its students, either private interest come in to do it or the students organize association to build it. Of course if there are private interest that want such worship centers in the school, or the students association decided to do it, they will be given the opportunity to do, in as much as they are ready to follow the school guidelines, and have enough capital to purchase landed property.

The more reason why we don't have much mosques in the institutions you listed above is not far fetched. Evidently it's because most students are non Muslims and private Muslim organization are not much in the region, and not because of what you wanted us to think. Those schools are not preventing anybody to build mosque in the school premises.

Things like these are the more reason why Nigeria is divided both tribally and religiously.

Owning to the fact that the school is a state owned University and not Private university, this is a very bad decision. There should be freedom of religion and association, so far it won't be for the detriment of the school. The country will continue to divide should intolerant decision like this continues.
