I dont know what all the fuss is about really. These rankings tell us as much as a hygenic pig's fart. It's the opinion of a set of people. No different from the opinion of nairalander's or "retarded simpletons".
Its absurd to even suggest henry is the best player in the world, statistically or otherwise.

Why these rankings are useless is because they dont tell us HOW they awarded 'points' for each statistic. i.e how many 'points' is a tackle worth? a goal? An assist?
Also even if they did, it still doesnt make them more relevant than "baba suwe telling us who the best NHL player is". WHY?
Lets say they give 5 points for a tackle and 50 points for a goal, it doesnt actually mean a tackle is = 5 points and a goal = 50 points. To another analyst, a tackle is worth 10 points and a goal is worth 60. Thats why stats can NEVER be used to judge who the best players are.

Its just their opinion, nothing more.

Robin van Persie alone hit the post more times than any TEAM in the league last season(except arsenal for obvious reasons). . . those efforts are considered OFF TARGET. but i can bet my house they are better efforts than the back passes henry has been giving keepers for the last 3 seasons, which are considered ON TARGET. How deceptive stats can be?
Lampard is a better player than zidane if we go by stats. How absurd?

u know, because they tell u they've taken every little statistic into consideration, doesnt mean they actually have.

See, there are two major problems here.

The first is the old 4-3-3 or 4-5-1 issue. Many teams claiming to play 4-3-3 are actually playing something much closer to a 4-5-1 i.e chelsea under jose. Barcelona are one of the few teams around that actually play 4-3-3. . . How advanced(or otherwise) the "wingers" play when the team is WITH OR WITHOUT possession makes the difference.
With barca, u almost never see messi/henry double-teaming their opposite number with their full backs. . . this was not the case @ chelsea. That pretty much renders the 'joe cole isnt a winger' argument invalid.

Second problem is people here want everything to be black & white. i.e if joe cole is a '10', he cant be an '11' or a '7'. Thats not the case.
Is joe cole a winger? YES! Is joe cole a playmaker? YES! Same goes for arshavin, hleb etc.
Whether or not he's more effective as a playmaker is irrelevant.

the position u refer to as wide forward, others call "WING forward". . . So yes, henry can be called a WINGer. I remember quite vividly henry giving an interview on how he was finding it difficult to re-adjust to being a WINGER after spending almost a decade as a striker for arsenal, this was when he first joined barca.

first u say "ALL these players(including rosicky & modric) are wide forwards", when i question the comment, u shift the goal post and say "IF rosicky & modric are deployed there, they are wide forwards", instead of simply admitting u made a mistake.

ur definition of a wide forward is a player who plays either side of the striker in a 4-3-3. rosicky and modric NEVER play there.
If u read one of my earlier posts, i said the likes of rosicky, modric etc didnt make a name for themselves as wingers either, in response to ibime's claim that joe cole isnt a winger.
They both played primarily through the middle, b4 ending up on the left of a 4-4-2 when they moved to england.
Now explain to me again how rosicky and modric are wide forwards

Joe Cole isnt even a winger. . . . as a winger, he is no more effective than Young, Lennon, Walcott etc. . . . cos he lacks pace. . . simple as. . .as a playmaker, he may be a don, but Joe Cole has never set Chelsea alight as a winger apart from a brief 10 game spell at the start of 05/06.

Robinho is a classic example of a luxury player, he's grossly overrated. Very entertaining on his day of course, but consistency has never really been his forte.

Young is nowhere near as good a player as rosicky, not even close!

Modric is a poor man's rosicky. they're SIMILAR, but rosicky is clearly BETTER.

Van Persie, though capable, can't be considered as a winger, but is a better PLAYER than joe cole.

Cole has ability, obviously, but his biggest problem is his CONSISTENCY, or lack of. he's a very good player on his day.
