Sharp Yorubas with their certificates have quickly ported to profitable and blue chip companies leaving certificateless ibos to mourn the economy.

lol........Igbos are weaklings jooor. You are not even ashamed. When we talk about warriors,Igbos should just keep their mouths shut because that topic is above them.Even minority Ijaw took them as slaves after conquering them.Jaja of Opobo was an Igbo slave.Slavery is in IIgbos' DNA.

Thanks for the info. Those guys should leave the Hausas because they have lost too many people in recent time,in the SW.

How many igbo men do u see marrying other tribes? How many Igbo men marry yoruba?
grin
Your idiocy has no grade.Yorubas are more than 40 million and they marry themselves most than marrying from another tribe because of the natural intelligence gifted to the Yoruba race.Secondly,Yoruba men are the'bomb' and they have been mobbed even by whites and it is on record that they married and still marrying whites more than any tribe in Nigeria.I even learnt one Yoruba Angel married a Royal in Europe recently. It is mostly Igbo girls falling 'heels over' to marry Yoruba guys and because we like varieties and even follow the tenets of christianity,we are giving the Igbo girls 'a chance' to taste the sweetness of Yorubaness.Remember your girls are the one coming to the SW looking for Yoruba guys and there is one very strong reason a Yoruba girl will find it hard marrying an Igbo guy but with time that reason is gradually crumbling.

Culture › Re: Ownership Of Lagos: Between Distortion And Obvious Facts. by Ritchiee: 11:36am On Dec 02, 2017
Putinofrussia:
Rasheed Ojikutu.

The recent interviews granted by two prominent indigenes of Lagos, namely, Alhaji Olufemi Okunnu and Chief Layi Ajayi Bembe, to one of the main newspapers in Nigeria on the question of “Who owns Lagos?” should have been restricted to the plethora of injustices and unfairness done to the indigenous people of Lagos rather than on landlord-ship.

For avoidance of doubt, Alhaji Okunnu, an Isale Eko indigene, was the former Nigerian Commissioner for Works and the husband of Alhaja Lateefa Okunnu (Née Oyekan), a former Deputy Governor of Lagos State. He is Awori. Chief Bembe on the other hand is of the Obanikoro family whose ancestral root is undoubtedly Benin with its tinge of Awori lineage.. Readers would then understand the reason for the position of each of these men on one of the most vexed issues of our time.

Ordinarily, in such a tricky situation, one should have allowed each person to hold on to the advantages secured from the argument knowing that those who require more information and knowledge can have unhindered access to history books that would place the facts in perspective. Unfortunately, such a compendium is a luxury in our environment and therefore, people stand history on its head for personal convenience and ego boosting. Every human being is a sculptor of history and people who have advantage are those who could place their documents within the arm’s reach of the world and humanity. However, prosperity will frown upon us if we look on while facts are slaughtered or remodelled into a shape that may mislead the generations of Nigerians yet unborn.

“Who owns Lagos?.” The question is “Which Lagos?” because the ownership of Eko has never been in contention. It is very clear that none of these men was talking about Lagos State but it is also abundantly clear that there is some muddling in their presentations with respect to the clear distinction between Eko, Lagos and Lagos State. An indigene of Lagos should not be found in this shaky ground anytime the issue of our state is placed on the podium for discourse. Therefore, the starting point is to resort to spatial delineation of these territories on the map of Lagos State for the clear comprehension of the reader.

In nomenclature, non-indigenes are usually unable to know the difference between Eko, Lagos and Lagos State. For comprehension, Eko, the domain in which Oba Rilwan Aremu Akiolu is the traditional head belongs to Aromire. It is the space from Obalende to Idumota (that is Lagos Island). This is different from Lagos which starts from Victoria Island, Lagos Island (Eko), Lagos Mainland up to Jibowu, Apapa, Surulere up to Akangba. This was the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria. Lagos State, on the other hand, consists of the entire Lagos and its colonies of Badagry, Epe, Ikeja and Ikorodu. From the interviews, it seems the concentration of Alhaji Okunnu and Chief Bembe are on Lagos Island, that is, Eko, to the exclusion of other parts of Lagos State.

There is hardly anyone who is conversant with the history of Lagos Island that would feign ignorance on the fact that Lagos Island belongs to Aromire, who is one of the children of Olofin Ogunfunminire, the progenitor of the Awori nation. The Yoruba say, “Bi omode k oba Itan, yiobaaroba. Aroba de ni baba Itan”, therefore, anyone trying to reconstruct history must also bear in mind that beyond the textbooks are the oral history handed over to us by our forefathers. In the regard, one may want to listen to the musical records of Salami Balogun of Gbara Village, that is, Lefty. He says,

“Aromire loniile Eko o -2ce

A be’jaro mi re 2ce

Awonni baba awa o

Aromire lo niile Eko o.

Attempts in contemporary times to reconstruct the history of the Yoruba and the Benin Empires have led to a series of distortions most of which contradict empirical evidences that lay bare in front of our generation. The only point of agreement in the hot debates over the years is that the two nations have the same root but whether the fruit was planted in Benin or Ife has been contentious. Irrespective of the position taken, there are some facts that are sacrosanct and should be linearly preserved. It is obvious and clear that one major reason for conquering people is to take their land and properties. If truly the Bini conquered Eko, how come there is no land in the entire Eko that belongs to the Bini? This issue was settled in 1920 when Chief Amodu Tijani, the Oluwa of Lagos, took the British colonialists to the Privy Council in London. Hence, today, there is no contest on who the landlord is on the land in Lagos (not Lagos State). The legitimate ownership of Lagos Land is vested in the Idejo who are the offspring of Olofin Ogunfunminire and not the Bini. Anyone who cares, can read the landmark judgement delivered at the Privy Council in London in 1921.

History revealed that Olofin Ogunfunminire, the progenitor of the Awori and the father of the Idejo, came from Ile Ife to settle in Isheri Olofin (a small town along the Lagos Ibadan Expressway) with his two wives, Akesan and Ajayi. While Akesan was procreating, Ajayi was barren. On consultation, Ifa advised Olofin to move with Ajayi to the edge of a river. The couple consequently settled in Oto (at the back of the Ido Railway Terminus)

One day, the Bini invaded Oto and took Olofin to Benin. On arrival in the palace in Bini, it was discovered that Olofin was a Prince of Ife and was consequently released to come back to Lagos with a retinue of Bini Chiefs which included Obanikoro (Chief Ajayi Bembe’s Lineage); Bajulaiye, Ashogbon and others as clearly outlined in Alhaji Okunnu’s interview.

History had it that the guests of Olofinwere, on arrival, settled on the pepper farm of the Aromire . Hence, the name “Idungaran”

While one may not want to get too entrenched in the controversy of the explosive discourse, it won’t be out of place to also mention that the word “Idu” may not necessarily be of Benin origin because apart from shared vocabulary between the Yoruba and the Bini, the settlement or any place in which a Yoruba community settles is called “Iduro, Idu or Ido” depending on the tongue.

To conclude that Awori are of Bini origin is far too incorrect to be ignored because the Awori are in umbilicus and plasma of the Yoruba lineage and therefore migrated from Ile Ife. I have addressed some of this issues in the book titled, “The Ojikutu family of Lagos”. The painstaking and comprehensive research traced the movement of the first Prince Obayomi from Isheri Olofin in 1790 to Lagos Island and how the great grandchild of Obayomi, namely, Amodu Rufai Ibikunle, acquired the appellate Ojikutu

Because of his entrepreneurial acumen, wealth and influence.

There is of course no variation in our positions on the annihilation and suppression of the right of the indigenous people of Lagos State. The sad part of it is that governments upon governments in Lagos State with the connivance of some indigenes and pseudo indigenes have employed the style of cracking the walls of the homes of the indigenes rather than fence-mending the obvious disaffection that is created every day. In this regard, I do not see the difference in the style of the governors towards the rights of the indigenes in the state, irrespective of whether the administrator is the “Son of the soil’ or not. The attitude is the same. The most disappointing of all of them was Babatunde Raji Fashola, a young man who by virtue of his intellectual endowment should have done better but whose love for his people was beclouded by pecuniary considerations. I still hold him in high regard in view of his contributions to the development of Lagos but I do not think many of us will forgive him for failing us in view of our high aspiration.

Prof Ojikutu wrote in from University of Lagos, Akoka.

JOSEPH AYO BABALOLA UNIVERSITY

ritchiee:
All Hail our JABU!
JABU, the first entrepreneurial university in Nigeria was established in obedience to divine instructions by the Christ Apostolic Church Worldwide in 2004, under the visionary leadership of its then President, Pastor (Dr.) E. H. L Olusheye. The current President of Christ Apostolic Church Worldwide, Pastor A O Akinosun as the Chairman of our Board of Trustees provides us with overall direction, with invigorated and renewed spiritual and financial commitments to the University.
Our first Chancellor in the personality of His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr) Oladele Olashore (CON), until his demise in June 2012, laboured sedulously in various ways to positively advance the course of the University. The current Chancellor is the dynamic Pastor (Dr.) Wemimo Odunaiya, a cleric and industrialist with an unrepentant passion for excellence. The principal officers include Prof AMA Imevbore (Pro-Chancellor) and Pastor C. S. Fasuyi (Vice-Chairman, Governing Council), as well as Barrister Wale Aderibigbe, the Registrar, and other members of management. They have tenaciously kept faith with the vision of the founding fathers.

JABU started academic sessions in 2006 post-license, with the objective of providing educational services that would inculcate Godly values in its graduates, and provide them with functional skill-driven education aimed at producing job creators rather than job seekers. This institution pioneered the trend for entrepreneurship education in Nigeria. The National Universities Commission (NUC) therefore had a pilot in the JABU initiative and thereafter prescribed mandatory general studies that include entrepreneurship in the various degree programmes in Nigerian universities. Until recently, only JABU offers a first degree in entrepreneurship studies in Nigeria. Currently we have national accreditation in all our courses numbering a total of 36 at the bachelor’s level, and 18 at the Postgraduate level. Our programmes are in Agricultural Sciences, Humanities, Natural Sciences, Law, Environmental Sciences, the Social and Management Sciences, as well as the Postgraduate College. Plans are at an advanced stage to commence Medical Studies and the Centre for Distance Learning in 2016.
We released our first set of graduates in November 2010, and the sixth set in 2015. These stars, numbering over 3500, are entrepreneurs to the core. Some of them are profiled in this website under ‘alumnus of the month’. They are making great impacts as they rule their worlds in academics, aviation, communication, financial sector, and the military and kindred divisions of humanity.
JABU is driven by core values of integrity, honesty, teamwork, quality service and humanism. Our unique and critical selling point is the prospect of spiritual deliverance and rehabilitation of recalcitrant youths and the impartation of relevant theoretical concepts and practical skills using appropriate pedagogies.

I am calling on all stakeholders to join hands in the task of consolidating on the gains that God has given to us, so that we can move our university to the next level of greater physical and intellectual developments. To achieve this, there are cultural imperatives for every stakeholder. Our students manifest a high sense of discipline that would be expected in a faith based environment. Whereas the moral fabric of the society is disappearing with the decay in societal values, and the nuances of the millennial children, our staff, students and graduates are above board. Our parents are supportive, prayerful and understanding. The demand for good education is high, but we wish this demand will be made effective to the extent that parents fulfil their obligations through prompt payment of school fees. The staffers are diligent, creative, committed and resourceful. They exist in loco parentis with the students. They commit to oneness among peers. Management appreciates the diversity that characterizes the nation, and is therefore tolerant of religions, geriatric groupings, and generational differences. Our campus is small enough for us to be united culturally, and it is big enough to let everyone be the best that he or she wants to be.

If you wish to be a member of this glorious family in the City of God, that our campus is, I shall personally await your arrival and together we shall celebrate your absolvement and personal greatness in life.

Once again, you are welcome

Professor Sola FAJANA, FCIPM, FAMN, FIoE

The proprietor of Afe Babalola University, (ABUAD) Ado Ekiti, Chief Afe Babalola, says he has spent over N78 billion to develop the institution.
Babalola disclosed this on Sunday in Ado-Ekiti at a grand reception organised by the university in honour of one of its alumnus, Mr Popoola Olamide.
Olamide led a team of graduates and undergraduates selected from three private universities in Nigeria to win the “Unilever Future Leaders league" in UK.
The universities are Afe Babalola, Babcock and Samuel Ajay Crowther.
Babalola said the figure was released to him recently by the Audit and Accounting Units of the university.
He said that the figure represented what had been spent on building of structure and provision of modern academic equipment in the last six years of its establishment.
The former Pro-Chancellor of the University of Lagos said he had no regret investing such a huge sum as long as his target of building human capacity through quality education was achieved.
According to him, ABUAD is the only institution in the country that currently has what is known as, Talent Discovery Directorate.
``This is where students are made to discover their gifted areas early enough and get mentored through provision of the right type of equipment, until they are nurtured to stardom.
``The institution has also instituted “Hall of Fame” for geniuses and other gifted students who are either honoured or rewarded with cash or gift items at the end of every academic exploit,’’ he said.
He said he was proud of the latest award-winning student of the university and those before him as their achievements proved that his investment was not misplaced.
Responding, Olamide said that he, along with members of his team from Babcock and Crowther universities, first won the Unilever national contest in Lagos in October 2015.
He said that they later went ahead to win the continental edition in South Africa before winning the global edition staged in London.
Olamide, a fresh graduate of Petroleum Engineering, said that students from 30 countries across the world participated in the grand finale of the Unilever contest in London.
He said the team won the number one category award for “Authentically on Brand, Relevant to Target Audience and Talkability and Shareability".

ADELEKE UNIVERSITY

ritchiee:
Adeleke University is a privately owned University located in Ede, a town in Osun State, southwestern Nigeria. It was established by Chief Adedeji Adeleke, the father of Davido, award-winning Nigerian musician.
ritchiee:
PROF. AMUSAN’S REVELATION:

For Prof. Oluwole Olayiwola Amusan, the Vice Chancellor of Adeleke University, the university located in the ancient city of Ede, Osun State, offers its students practical education.

“At Adeleke University, we don’t just raise graduates for employment,” he said in a chat with Education Review. “We offer holistic education. We try to build a complete man with a sound moral character. Education is not just for employment but to raise a total man. The most important thing is to first of all have the education, then you can talk about what to do to earn a good living.

“Already, we have started addressing the graduate unemployment trend in Nigeria. In Computer Science, for instance, we don’t just train our students to become computer scientists; we also introduce related programmes for skill acquisition so that they would be able to set up something for themselves to eke out a living when they graduate. In other words, they would not end up as applicants but employers of labour. So, we try to prepare them in such a way that if they graduate, they would be able to apply it in life. I encourage all tertiary institutions in Nigeria to toe the same path.”

Speaking on the vision of the university, the professor of Chemistry who, in his university teaching odyssey, had traversed almost all the tertiary institutions in the South-West and Europe before berthing at Adeleke University, said that Dr. Adedeji Adeleke, the founder and pro-chancellor of the university, is a man that is so passionate about the less privileged in the society, that he decided, at some point in time, to set up a university where such people can have access to education at an affordable price.

“Before he founded the university, he had also founded Spring Time Development Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organisation which he used as a platform to support the less privileged’s education, especially those that were hungry for it, but didn’t have the means,” he said. “He assisted them a lot to obtain education to make them relevant to themselves and the society. He had always sponsored them into different institutions. But at a certain point in time, he thought that instead of giving them fish, it was better to teach them how to fish. So, he decided to find a university where they can have access to education at an affordable rate. That was what led to the birth of Adeleke University and that is why the fees charged at the University are about the lowest, compared to what is obtainable in most private universitie in Nigeria.”

All the same, he added, “the Pro-chancellor is still sponsoring a high percentage of the students in the institution because of his deep passion for the less privileged. His dream was to establish a unique university that can offer a holistic education for good moral character and spiritual growth and development so that the products of the university will be able to live a meaningful life.”

His remarks made you to wonder aloud whether admission into the university is an all-comers’ affair since part of the vision of the school is to give the less privileged children an opportunity for higher education. “We admit students based on the criteria set by JAMB and post JAMB requirements which have to do with the stipulated cut off marks and success in the post-JAMB exam,” he explained. “But in a circumstance where prospective admission seekers fail to satisfy the requirements, we make alternative provision for them through our preliminary programmes to prepare them for full admission after the one year programme with a view to helping them meet JAMB’s admission requirements.”

Prof. Amusan also addressed the issue of the falling standard of education in Nigeria, stressing that Adeleke University has been able to set a pace for high academic standard and excellence. According to him, his students who go out to compete with their counterparts from other universities have always come out in flying colours.

“I think the secrets of this standard are that we have highly qualified lecturers that are committed to their duties as well as a culture of self-discipline that we have been able to cultivate into our students,” he said.

However, Adeleke University has its challenges, the foremost of which is “how to market the school to a level where the entire public would be able to realise the quality of education we offer and the legacy we are trying to set which focuses on holistic education.”

He also stressed the relevance of moral standard that, he said, combines with academic standard to make a complete man, lamenting that many institutions of higher learning have challenges in morals “so much so that you see students engage in anti-social activities, restiveness, cultism and or cultic practices. But we don’t have such tendencies at Adeleke University. We have zero tolerance for indiscipline and waywardness. Since the school came into existence, we have never recorded student riot nor industrial action by either the teaching or non-teaching staff.

“Although Adeleke University is not established by the church, the school’s philosophy of education is modelled on the philosophy of the Seventh Day Adventist Church which stands for holistic principles and discipline bordering on good morals. No anti-social activities, no cultism, no restiveness, no uprising, no industrial action no seductive dressing on our campus. We do all things in a way that glorifies God. Our aim is to ensure that our students finish from here creditably, go out there and shine through good character.”

Why are some people getting worked-up over the truth stated by the governor? If you feel that what the governor said is false then list the states that have bigger and better economy than Anambra.

I think the governor means in this order:

Lagos

Rivers

Ogun

Anambra

This should be a near perfect list but if you have a better list then put it down for us to see.
This is one thing I do not always support. Is there any stat from NBS,UNO,UNDP or where did the assertion come from?I hope not from what you think with that lineup up there.I have heard severally that Igbos are industrious until this thread https://www.nairaland.com/3918290/yorubas-most-industriousrichest-educated-tribe
proved that they did not even have 1/4 of the industries the Yorubas have excluding the FDI.Let us use facts for once.People are beginning to call Igbos ASS-FACTS instead of HARD-FACTS.
