The village of Okpunoeze Uruagu in Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State was, yesterday, thrown into mourning following the murder of 67-year-old Mrs Benedeth Ikegwuonu by his 42-year-old son, Mr. Chiedu Ikegwuonu, over breakfast.

It was gathered that the deceased had prepared yam porridge for breakfast, as opposed to the noodles requested by the suspect before he stepped out of the house.
A resident of the area said on returning, the suspect expressed surprise seeing his mother preparing another type of meal.
A source in the community said: “The mother was busy preparing the yam porridge without suspecting anything when the son returned.
“Suddenly, pandemonium ensued. But by the time we rushed there, the man had killed his mother inside her kitchen.
“After stabbing the mother in the neck while she was cooking, he abandoned her in a pool of her blood and ran away, leaving behind his wife and son.”
According to the source, the man had been in a running battle with the mother after she defeated him in a court case over family issues.
The source added that late woman had four boys and three girls, one of who died recently in a fatal accident, noting that the suspect returned to Nnewi from a failed business in Aba, Abia State.
Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Haruna Mohammed, who confirmed the incident, said the suspect used machete on the deceased by cutting her neck before fleeing with the machete, adding that the deceased was later rushed to Akwudo Hospital, where she was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
The Police spokesman said the deceased’s younger son, Onyedika Ikegwuonu, reported the matter at the Central Police Station, Nnewi.

A fake mad man, Muyideen Fatai, has been arrested after he abducted an 11-year old girl, tied her mouth and was taking her to an unknown destination before she was rescued in Lagos, according to a report by PM Express.

It was gathered that the incident happened along Ijaniki Road by Total filling station, Ijaniki, Lagos, where Mr. Fatai was said to have accosted the victim, Miss Aishat Tunde, on her way to an undisclosed destination.
However, his plan was foiled by the residents who saw what happened, apprehended him, rescued the victim and handed both of them over to the police for investigation.

At the Ijaniki Police Division, Fatai pretended that he was a mad man but that did compel the police to release him. They transferred the matter to the Anti-Kidnapping department for further interrogations where it was discovered that he was not a mad person.

The incident was confirmed by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Imohimi Edgal, at the State Command, Lagos. CP Edgal stated that on 17th July, 2018, the father of the victim, Mr. Tunde Kamoru, 43, reported at the Ijaniki police station that the suspect who had no fixed address muffled the mouth of her daughter with a veil in an attempt to kidnap her.
The attempt was foiled by the some residents who saw what happened and contacted the operatives of the Neighborhood Watch. He said on the receipt of the report, he directed the Anti-Kidnapping Squad to take over the case and investigate it properly.

Edgal said that upon interrogation, the suspect who had earlier pretended to be of unsound mind stated that he liked her and was only trying to take her home to feed her.

CP Edgal said that investigations were still on and the suspect will be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.

He noted that the incident had clearly shown that the members of the public were now conscious of their environment and working with the police for effective policing of the State. He further enjoined the public to remain vigilant and report to the police whenever they suspected the movement of individuals around their environment.

A 40-year old driver, Mr. Mayowa Ogunmola, connived with other suspects, Femi Ayoade, 23 and Azeez Ibrahim, 34 and sold his boss’ N10m Toyota Prado Land Cruiser SUV for N50,000 just two months after being employed in Lagos, PM Express has reported.
The incident happened at Anthony Village in Lagos, where the owner, Mr. Femi Mayaki, resided. The SUV with registration number, LSD 735BP, was recovered in Ogun State.
The police said that Ogunmola made away with the vehicle and gave it to one Femi who claimed to a Mechanical Engineering undergraduate of the Kwara State University. He then sold it to Mr. Ibrahim for N50,000.
However, the three suspects were arrested by the operatives of FSARS and they recovered the vehicle at Ijebu-Ota in Ogun State.
This was confirmed by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Imohimi Edgal, at the State Command where the suspects were paraded with the vehicle as exhibit.
The police boss said that on 18th July, 2018, the owner of the vehicle reported that Mr. Ogunmola made away with the SUV with his personal documents inside.
He said that based on the report, the operatives of FSARS were detailed and they moved into action which led to the arrest of the driver in a hideout in Ikorodu area of Lagos.
He said that when the driver was arrested, he confessed claiming that the devil tempted him to do so. He was later taken by the police to Ogun State where he claimed to have given the vehicle to Mr. Ayoade to get a buyer and sell it.
On getting to Ogun State, Ayoade was arrested and he confessed that he sold the vehicle to Mr. Ibrahim for N50,000 and then took the detectives to Ibrahim’s house where the vehicle was recovered.
CP Edgal said that the three suspects were in police custody and will be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations. The owner of the SUV, Mr. Mayaki expressed delight about the diligent work by the police and said that he had learnt his lesson from the whole incident.

A polygamous man, who is unable to have an erection whenever he meets with his first wife, took his second wife to court, accusing her of bewitching him and the second wife has now been sentenced to 13 months in prison.

Godwishes Magarira of Makanda Village in Gutu, Zimbabwe, took Memory Shiri, 24, before Gutu resident Magistrate, Victor Mohadi. He pleaded with Magistrate Victor Mohamadi to punish Shiri for bewitching him and causing him to have erectile dysfunction whenever he's with his other wife.

The court heard that in 2016, Magarira approached Shiri and asked her why he fails to have an erection whenever he wants to have sex with the first wife and Shiri answered "ndakakusunga" which translates in English to mean, " I bewitched you". Shiri then took a nappy pin and a needle which were tied together and untied them while Magarira was watching and she told him that she had sorted out the problem.

Magarira accused Shiri of boasting that she can control his sex life. Magarira also got a medical examination report to prove that he was having sexual problems.
Witchcraft is not allowed under the Zimbabwean law and Shiri has now been sentenced to 13 months in prison wholly suspended on condition that she perfoms 455 hours of community service.

The General Overseer of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo, has called on President Buhari to resign over persistent Fulani militant herdsmen killings.
According to reports from Punch, in a YouTube video posted by the church’s official page, the cleric made this call on Sunday at its headquarters in Ota, Ogun State.
With this development, Oyedepo has joined other notable clerics, including the Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Church, Abuja, John Cardinal Onaiyekan; and a former Archbishop of the Catholic Church in Lagos, Cardinal Anthony Olubunmi Okogie – who have asked Buhari to quit his position over failure to secure the lives of Nigerians.
The cleric told his congregation that although he was not partisan, he would not be alive and not talk about the massacre of Nigerians, especially in the Middle Belt, by suspected Fulani herdsmen.
Speaking on the theme, “Enough is enough,” he said,
“When I was talking in 2015, people were saying my own was too much, now everybody can see what’s happening. What has moved forward in anybody’s life? You don’t know it’s war. Why are they attacking the Christian communities? Why has nobody been arrested? I can tell you this, the authorities and the powers that be are behind them.
“I will never be partisan; Jesus got me out of it in 1984. But I will not be alive to see innocent people massacred.
“We must wake up and push this evil back. Not one of those so-called herdsmen – they are jihadists – has been brought to book till date.
“Herdsmen don’t shoot; they have been here all along. They are just taking cover under the herdsmen to assault innocent citizens.
“They wake up in the night and slice innocent children to pieces. Yet, you have a government in place. What!
“The most honourable thing for any non-performing leader to do is to resign.
“The most honourable thing is to resign. That’s my own for Mr President. Resign! Get out of office!
“Even our Islamic friends in the North are calling on him (Buhari) to resign. Because that’s the noblest thing to do. Or are we going to look at one system destroy a whole nation?”
Oyedepo also warned Nigerians against the ceding of land to the Fulani herdsmen for ranching, as proposed by the Federal Government.
He said:
“I’m going to say this and I’m not going to be tired. This (Nigeria) will never be a Fulani republic.
“That is not our terms of agreement. It will remain a secular nation till Jesus returns. It’s not just (about) land, it’s (about) heritage.
“Forever, I stand on the fact that no government has the authority to collect land from those who own it and transfer it to another person because on the other side (presumably the north), it never happens.”
