A Chinese man was so obsessed with his phone that he fell into a pit and injured himself while using it, but even at that, he still refused to put it down and continued playing on the phone as he waited for help.


Rescuers who arrived at the scene to help the man out of the 13ft deep hole were stunned to find the man still playing on his phone even though he was in extreme pain after suffering a fractured kneecap.
The incident took place in Karamay in western China's Xinjiang Province. The man, said to be a construction worker, fell to the bottom of the manhole after failing to notice that it wasn't covered. He was looking at his phone at the time, reported Kan Kan News.


The report said when firefighters arrived, they saw that the man was still playing games on his handset while sitting at the bottom of the hole. It is said the man was whining in pain while staring at his screen.


Firefighters attached straps around the man before pulling him out of the hole using a rescue tripod. The man was taken to the hospital afterwards and is reported to be recovering.

Trouble began when the herbalist tied a goat that he bought for sacrifice to a tree and went into the market to pick other items, but did not see the goat when he returned.
A man suspected to be mentally challenged man has reportedly killed a native doctor in Oba Aguleri in the Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State.




Southern City News gathered that the incident triggered protest in the area leading to destruction of properties while business activities were grounded.
A source, who pleaded anonymity for fear of attack, told Southern City News that trouble began when the herbalist, whose name could not be ascertained as of press time, tied a goat that he bought for sacrifice to a tree and went into the market to pick other items, but did not see the goat when he returned.


The source said, “The native doctor enquired about the whereabouts of his goat as soon he noticed its sudden disappearance.
“He was informed that a madman untied it and took it to his house few kilometres away. They gave him the direction to the madman’s house and he went straight to the place.
“When he got there, he met the madman already slaughtering the goat. The madman told the herbalist that it was not only the herbalist that had a right to eat goat every day; saying it was his (madman’s) turn to eat the day’s goat.


“While the herbalist was still challenging the madman, the madman quickly dashed into his room and came out with a machete.
“The native doctor took to his heels on sighting the machete in the hand of the madman, but the madman pursued him and caught up with him and hacked him. The native doctor bled to death before help could come his way.”


Southern City News learnt that irate youths in the area mobilised and stormed the madman’s house to avenge the killing of their kinsman.
It was gathered that the intervention of security operatives prevented the situation from degenerating into a communal crisis.
When contacted, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohammed, confirmed the incident and disclosed that the suspect had been arrested.

Governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose has reassured the people of the state that he would complete all pending projects before his tenure expires on October 16.


The Governor cited in particular the multi billion Naira ultra modern market nearing completion at the capital of the state, Ado Ekiti.
He assured that the over 600 traders, who were displaced when the old market was demolished, would be first considered in sharing the new shops.


This was just as hundreds of Ekiti people, particularly indigenes of the state capital, Ado Ekiti, hailed him endlessly as he made his entry into the annual Udiroko festival being celebrated by the monarch of the city, Oba Aladesanmi Adejugbe, and the people of Ado.
Governor Fayose while addressing the teeming Ado indigenes at the Udiroko festival that took place inside the amphitheatre in Ewi’s palace on Tuesday, appreciated the the people of Ado Ekiti in particular for solidly supporting his government.


He promised to keep in touch with them even after he has left office saying: “In and out of office we will continue to celebrate you. I appreciate all of you Ado Ekiti indigenes. And thank you immensely for your support.
“We appreciate our own priceless Afe Babalola. You are not just a value added citizen, you are the value itself . you are a valuable citizen of Ado Ekiti.


“Anyone who comes to this palace of the Ewi will remember me as the governor who built this amphitheatre. I told you that I will perform and you have seen my performance. I will ensure that all those who were displaced when we demolished the old market are first considered in sharing the shops in the new ultra modern market which we will complete in few days.


“I appreciate you all Ado indigenes, you had stood solidly behind us and I want you to stand solidly behind the Ewi of Ado after we have left office. My good works for you will bring me good fortunes.
“Even if my deputy was announced as the winner, I have an expiry date as governor of the state. It is not the man who governs that matters but what he has done for the people.

History will judge me well on my performance as I have delivered on my mandate. I will ensure to work assiduously for the state till my last day in office.”
Lauding Governor Fayise for the developmental strides he gave to the capital city, the Ewi of Ado said: “Generations yet unborn will appreciate what you did for Ado Ekiti.
“Fayose has demonstrated consistency.

He promised to turn around Ado and he has indeed turned around the town. Ado is now a befitting state capital.
“He said he was coming to deliver and he has delivered.
“When he said he was going to build this palace ampitheatre, I laughed because I never believed. But he did not only build the amphitheater as promised, he added a befitting hall to it.


“For ever and ever, your name will be remembered in the history of Ado Ekiti.
“As you will be living, I will pray the sane prayer for each governor that comes here. You will not lose your wife and children.”
Also lauding Fayose, Afe Babalola,:founder of Afe Babalola University who is an insigne or Ado said: “we had been working here in the Ewi’s palace before Governor Fayose came, but what he did here within three years is unparalleled.”

The Oyo State Government today denied authorizing the demolition of the N800 million music house owned by gospel artiste, Yinka Ayefele, which took place in the early hours of yesterday August 19th.

The state government, through its counsel, Yomi Alliyu, made the denial when he appeared before Justice Iyabo Yerima of the State High Court, Ring Road, Ibadan, today August 20th. Alliyu appeared for the first and second defendants, Gov. Abiola Ajimobi and Mr. Bola Abimbola (State Attorney-General), in a case instituted by Ayefele against the defendants.

Alliyu told the court that his clients were shocked to read about the reported demolition on Sunday morning as they did not authorize it. According to him, the state government is planning to set up a panel of inquiry to find out those responsible for the demolition.

”My clients are men of honour that respect rule of law and constituted authority and will have no reason to demolish the said property,” he told the court.
Alliyu, who had earlier denied that his clients were served with court processes, quickly reversed himself when the judge showed him evidence of actual service on the first and second respondents.

The defense counsel, however, urged the court to adjourn the case pending the time the claimant would be able to file and serve his clients with notice of the ex-parte motion since the court was on vacation.
He said that filing of motion on notice and letter of urgency alone by the claimant was not enough.
However counsel to Ayefele, Olayinka Bolanle, told the court that the state government had gone ahead to demolish the structure despite an earlier court order restraing it.


“Even after the defendants had become aware of this proceedings, it is sad and unbelievable my Lord that the defendants in the wee hours of Sunday, Aug 19, went to the property in dispute and demolished it,” he told the court.
Justice Yerima adjourned the case until Sept. 12 for hearing of applications and urged parties to file necessary processes before the adjourned date.

Nigerian singer, Tiwa Savage has finally spoken out on the relationship that existed between herself and Wizkid

The two were spotted a few months ago in several pictures together and they even performed a few shows and this led to many speculating that perhaps there was something more between the two

Tiwa Savage dismissed these stories stating that the relationship between the two wasn’t romantic in any way and that the two have never had such an interaction.

She spoke to Soundcity radio 98.5 and said that she ignored all the rumours surrounding the two and that there was no pressure on her: “I heard all sorts of stories about Wizkid and I, but I chose to ignore them.

“At a point, people said I was dating Humblesmith; later they mentioned another (artiste?). How long will I continue to debunk these rumours. I have been in the music industry for quite a while and I have grown a thick skin, so certain rumours or insinuations don’t get to me again.”

She also refused to be drawn into commenting on her failed marriage with Teebillz saying that it was too sensitive a topic to talk about on Air; “Marriage is a very sensitive matter that I would not want to delve into at this time. A Nigerian Big Boy, Mark John Osigwe known for living a luxury lifestyle has reportedly been shot dead by suspected assassins.

Mark was reportedly killed in Imo State. He is said to have recently bought an expensive car and house for his parents and was making plans to open it when the sad incident happened.

Mark who lived in Lagos was known by many of his friends who admired him.

A friend, Phillip Anuolu while mourning him on Facebook wrote:

This is very sad. A graduate of Abia State University (ABSU), has died after being involved in a road accident. It was scooped that the deceased identified as Joel was crushed to death after falling off a motorcycle around Okigwe expressway on his way to Umuahia, Abia state capital.



He was said to have been avoiding a moving trailer before he fell down on the road and was crushed to death by it.
He died on the spot. His corpse has been deposited at the mortuary.



His friends and colleagues who were shocked with the sad news, have taken to social media to mourn the loss.
May his soul rest in peace.

The mixed-race TV personality who flaunts his famous high heel shoes debunked tales that he was imitating American singer, Lady Gaga. He claimed that he had been wearing the shoes before it became trendy.

“I had been wearing heel shoes before the advent of social media; I don’t live for social media. I am one of the most original human beings alive. The immediate past President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, has urged Nigerians not to despair in the face of persecution and be determined in doing the right thing.

While speaking at the 2018 New Yam Festival of Obinugwu community in Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State, former President Goodluck Jonathan, called on Nigerians to be determined in doing the right thing.


According to newsmen, the former president seized the opportunity to thank people of the community and the state for resisting persecution of the traditional ruler, Eze Cletus Ilomuanya.
He said: “I urge Nigerians not to despair in the face of persecution. Anything evil does not last for long. It is better to be persecuted for doing the right thing rather than being associated with despicable conducts.”


Jonathan recalled a story of how hostile forces were trying to malign Ilomunanya. “Eze Ilomuanya as a man has suffered unjust persecution for insisting that the right things be done and never succumbed.
“This is because, in his conscience, he appreciates the need to remain steadfast in goodness rather than buckling under evil pressure.


“Eze Ilomuanya is a very good example of a worthy royal father who understands the imperative of living an upright life.
“We must appreciate goodness even when threatened with persecution because evil doesn’t last for long. A leader must be prepared to face a lot of challenges at some points in life which is what leadership often entails.”

A randy couple put on a live sex show from their hotel room balcony as onlookers filmed their romp from the street. The pair appeared to forget to turn off the lights in their hotel room in the Russian port city of Novorossiysk on the Black Sea.

The scene from the hotel balcony left little to the imagination as the frisky pair’s outlines were visible against the room’s bright lights to passersby below.
As the couple cavorted, an eyewitness filmed the romp as other onlookers are heard whistling and cheering.

Bodies of Charly Chibuogwu, his wife and three children were discovered in their apartment in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Tuesday morning.

It was gathered that Mr Chibuogwu, said to be from Idumu Ozue, Umuolo Onicha Olona, and his family went to bed on Monday night and never woke up.
Though autopsy is yet to be conducted on the victims but preliminary investigation indicated that they died from suffocation caused by generator fumes.

The world will end in 2040 as pollution and over-population choke the world. That’s the warning from a computer programme called World One which was developed by MIT researchers.
The prediction was made in 1973. But the omen of doom has resurfaced thanks to an article about the risk of an imminent apocalypse.

The Australian Broadcasting Company has also republished its original report on the doomsday prediction machine, The Express reports. The computer said woe by analysing trends such as pollution levels, population growth and the depletion of natural resources.

“At around 2020, the condition of the planet becomes highly critical,’ the report said.
If we do nothing about it, the quality of life goes down to zero. Pollution becomes so seriously it will start to kill people, which in turn will cause the population to diminish, lower than it was in 1900. ‘At this stage, around 2040 to 2050, civilised life as we know it on this planet will cease to exist.’
The model is already proving accurate because it forecast a slowdown in the growth of living standards. A programmer called Jay Forrester built the programme in the early seventies and it was tested using Australia’s most powerful computer.

According to the budding singer who said his quest for stardom influenced his decision to feature Davido on one of his songs, he paid Davido’s producer, Fresh VDM, who was supposed to produce the song, an undisclosed amount of money but later refused to fulfill his promise of getting Davido to feature on his song as agreed.
In a chat, X-Lyte, who is currently a student of Babcock University, explained to Potpourri how it all happened and why he decided to expose Davido.
“The title of my song is ‘Feature Davido’. The music is about all the things I have encountered on my way to achieving my dream. I just felt that ‘Feature Davido’ would bring me to limelight because Davido is highly respected and people love to hear his voice.
So I met Fresh VDM one-on-one, we negotiated and he told me to pay to a DMW crew member whose name I don’t want to mention. I paid the money in Davido’s house, but I cannot go to his house to arrest him. The guy I paid the money to blocked me on WhatsApp and stopped picking my calls. I heard that they have been doing this to others too, so I’m speaking out for other upcoming artistes not to fall a victim”, he said.
He continued; I didn’t believe I would fall a victim until I was scammed. I was not happy about it and I felt doing the song was the best way I could express myself. I even involved my lawyer, but nothing came out of it. If I had gone to report to the police, they might not be able to act too. I don’t want to be malicious about it or mention the amount.
The fact is that I paid money for production and to feature Davido. If you pay for a service, it should be delivered. Fresh VDM didn’t even do a production for me. If I had been scammed for featuring Davido alone I would not be this bitter; I would have ignored it,” he said.
He added that though Davido was probably not aware of the business transaction, he doesn’t want a refund but for Davido to jump on his song.
“I am sure Davido was not aware I made any payment. But when I went to Davido’s house, I met him there; I took some pictures too. When the song was dropped, Davido shared it on his Instagram page; so, he is now aware of it. I don’t need my money back; I just want to feature Davido. Davido’s style of music goes with mine; I love him and see him as a role model. If I don’t love him I wouldn’t say I want to feature him. He is not the only artiste in the country. Everyone has their strength, but I prefer Davido to Wizkid or Olamide”, he concluded.

An Igbo cleric and senior pastor of Jehovah’s World Ministerial Outreach, Olisadebelum Onuoha, has counselled pro-Biafra agitators and groups to halt what he described as “unnecessary rivalry” among them and seek divine direction if they are desirous of achieving “Biafra Republic.



”The cleric noted that such rivalry has contributed immensely to the non-actualisation of the struggle, calling on agitators, particularly members of the Indigenous People of Biafra and the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra to immediately end the war of supremacy.


Onuoha stated this on Friday in Asaba, the Delta State capital, while addressing journalists where he claimed that although Biafra would certainly be achieved, “but not at the moment.”
He posited that the struggle had failed because its promoters have not involved God in pushing for a Biafra Republic, warning that without God, Biafra will be trodden under foot and a defeated battle.


The pastor, however, urged the agitators and Igbo leaders to attend a spiritual rally at the Michael Okpara Stadium in Enugu State towards the actualisiation of the movement.
Onuoha, while calling for unity among the Igbo, noted that the supremacy war among the IPOB, Ohaneze Ndigbo and MASSOB was not necessary in the agitation, saying that there was an urgent need for them to close ranks and work in unison.


He said, “Make no mistake about it, the nation (Biafra) must emerge but not now because God has time for everything that He has ordained.
“So, our Biafran brothers are advised to welcome Jehovah into their struggle and the world for His end-time work, which will be heralded this month. He will tell them what to do thereafter.”

Alex Otti, a governorship aspirant under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, in Abia state, has condemned what he termed as primitive kind of politics being played in the state, where youths were being used as willing tool to perpetrate different acts of violence ahead of the 2019 general elections.

He spoke against the backdrop of rising cases of the destruction of campaign billboards belonging to some aspirants in Abia state by disgruntled elements.
Otti, in a statement issued to newsmen in Umuahia by his Media Aide, Ferdinand Ekeoma, and made available on Friday morning, frowned at the barbaric destruction of campaign billboards and posters belonging to aspirants in the state which, according to him, was to stoke tensions and fan the embers of hate and disunity in Abia.

Parts of the statement read,”As a responsible political organization that is parading an eminent Abian and a front line aspirant for the 2019 governorship election, in the person of Dr. Alex Otti OFR, the Alex Otti Campaign Organization frowns at this barbaric act that stands to achieve no positive purpose, except to stoke tensions and fan the embers of hate, fear, and disunity.

“Alex Otti as a victim of despicable politics, who saw dozens of his billboards and other campaign materials destroyed in large proportion by vicious and misguided political charlatans during the 2015 governorship election, clearly understands that, it is a cowardly strategy devoid of benefits, and thus would not stoop low to apply or encourage anyone indulging in it.
“The Alex Otti Campaign Organization hereby strongly condemns this primitive kind of politics that has no place in modern democracy, and advises youths who usually serve as willing tools in the perpetration of different acts of violence to desist from these acts ahead of the 2019 election in Abia state.
“This organization also calls on those unpopular and desperate politicians whose stock in trade is to exploit the economic vulnerability of our youths by paying and arming them to embark on destructive acts of violence, to desist from it, so as not to endanger the lives of our youths and the peace of the state as a whole.”

All Progressives Congress, APC, has again restated its earlier declaration regarding the suitability of Senator Bukola Saraki to continue to preside over the affairs of the Senate, saying Saraki is not a good example for political leadership.


The party in a statement issued by its acting National Publicity Secretary, Yekini Nabena, yesterday, said: “A traitor will always be a traitor, however, the time and place. The Senate must do everything possible to put Dr. Saraki where he rightly belongs – the back seat.


‘’He is definitely not a fit and proper person to preside over the country’s upper and revered legislative house.”
In a sharp reaction, Saraki through his Special Adviser on Media, Yusuph Olaniyonu, said: “We can’t descend into the gutter with these characters. Apparently, they have not recovered from the shock of their Tuesday’s failed attempt to subvert democracy.”


According to the ruling party, in every democratic country, the position of the Senate President is one of the highest political offices one can attain.
“It is a position reserved for the best of the best, experienced and exemplary politicians who by their character and conduct in public offices, the younger generation look up to as role models,’’ the party stated.


It said in terms of exemplary personage, the reverse was the case in respect of Dr. Saraki who had been a dismal failure and had been involved in one controversy or the other, including budget padding, filibustering, legislative rascality, sabotage of matters of national interest, among other, criminalities too numerous to mention.


The party stated: “Having suffered under the 16-year misrule of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Dr. Saraki will go down in our country’s history as the worst Senate President Nigeria has had the misfortune to have.
“Since his usurpation of the coveted seat, achieved through a wicked conspiracy with members of the opposition PDP, it has been from one controversy to another – the Code of Conduct trial for false declaration of assets;

conspiracy with his deputy to fraudulently alter the rules of the Senate and links to the deadly armed robbers who wasted many lives in the Offa robbery attack.
“It is alleged that some of the robbery suspects were his political thugs used to rig elections; a common adage says: ‘Show me your friends and I will tell you who you are.’


“Dr. Saraki is definitely not our good example for political leadership. All over the world, the leadership of the legislature is provided by the political party with the majority members. But Dr. Saraki would in the absence of many members of his former party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, connive and conspire with members of the opposition PDP to emerge Senate President, and in the process trade off the Deputy Senate President position to the opposition PDP, a political betrayal and treachery even the devil would be envious of.


“Even at this time he has defected to the opposition PDP, and with APC still in the majority in the Senate, Dr. Saraki still has the impudence to present himself as the Senate President. Political ambition should be made of nobler stuff.”

This is quite sad. A police officer identified as Yakubu Ali, has died after being involved in a ghastly motor accident.

Why his death is so painful is that 55-year-old officer died in fatal crash on Sunday, August 5th while going to his new station after he was promoted to an assistant superintendent of police (ASP) in one of the Division at Taraba state command.
